Honestly all the 5 star reviews get everything spot on. The book store is an amazing site. I ended up leaving with 4 books and a post card. This place needs to be on your itinerary if you're in the area. You won't regret it'

Great hidden gem of the area. The entire vibe of this place is comforting. There are so many books, their music selection is also pretty big. They had everything from classics to more current books. I'm currently on a buying freeze to catch up on my to be read pile, and for me there was nothing that jumped out to break my rule. But that's just me! I would highly recommend this book shop!

I'm a self-proclaimed bibliophile, and love old books; there's a certain something to books that have been in existence for years. This bookstore deals with used books, so its a great place to find vintage books, while they still carry new releases. A separate room houses vinyl records and other such memorabilia, which is an added bonus to the bookstore, and as if that isn't enough to take you back to the old days, the hardwood floor has a charming creak to it as you step. The store is very charismatic and has such a unique feel to it, you'll want to keep coming back.

Ooooooold fashioned book store/ music shop that has a very interesting collection of antique books. What I liked the most was the extensive variety and really low prices. Chances are if you're looking for a specific genre, they'll have it here. On the other side of the store, you can pick up vinyl records and other vintage items like VHS tapes and cassettes. The inside is kind of creepy with the floors feeling like the wood was going to give way under my feet but it just adds to the uniqueness. Service is polite and again, great bargains as well. Nice place to shop local and recommended.

Everything a used bookstore should be. Slightly musty, creaky floor, overstuffed shelves in a dizzying amount of categories and best of all an owner who knows his stock inside and out. Stores like this are sadly a dying breed in the e-reader age, but I hope the great ones survive!

The Archive is a physical media retail store that opened in Bridgeport, Connecticut in June 2017…read more It was founded by friends and business partners Brandon Upson, James Neurath, Ryan Emerson and Ralph Stevens. The shop is the brick & mortar division of Vinegar Syndrome: a film restoration and distribution company that specializes in protecting and preserving genre films (mainly produced between the 1960s and 1980s). The company was founded in 2012 by Emerson and business partner Joe Rubin and named for the acidic smell of deteriorating film. It is considered a boutique Blu-ray label and to date has released well over 800 titles on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD. The Archive is dedicated to selling movies and music in a wide variety of physical media formats. Consumers will find all sorts of new and used titles available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD, VHS, Betamax, Laserdisc, Vinyl, CD, and Cassette tape. A second location opened in Aurora (CO) in October 2022 and a third (named 'Vinegar Syndrome') opened in Toronto (ON) in October 2023. I've been doing business with the Archive for a number of years now. I'm a huge fan of collecting physical media. Although streaming media seems to be the way to go now, streaming services are only as good as your internet connection, the quality is too compressed and titles are disappearing all the time. I like having an actual vinyl record or 4K disc in my hands. Physical formats are also usually loaded with all sorts of liner notes, posters and bonus features that you won't get with streaming services. I try to stop at the shop every few months or so. While I sometimes leave empty handed, other times I leave with some great finds. They often carry great film releases from labels like Arrow Video, Blue Underground, The Criterion Collection, Severin Films, Shout! Factory, and of course Vinegar Syndrome. At times, the shop will even get a limited amount of new releases weeks before they are available on Amazon. If you're a fan of physical media then you need to get to the Archive right away!

As I walked down the main street, I saw a sign out on the sidewalk that said record shop. Being a fan of independent record stores, I've been to over 100. I quickened my pace to enter. When I walked in I was greeted very warmly by the proprietors. The shop is somewhat small but very well organized. I was asked what type of music I like. I said folk rock pop Bluegrass. Sandy the woman behind the counter pointed out the folk section. Phil showed me the new arrival section. He said that if there's anything that I want to listen to in the used section. Just pass it over and I'll be happy to put it on the turntable. There is a very good mix of all types of music: folk, bluegrass, rock, pop, country, soundtracks, jazz. As well as an 80s section. Along with an oddball section.that features, records by John Travolta, Don Johnson, among other oddities. There is also a box of new releases, along with some new releases behind the counter up on the wall. The prices of everything including the new releases, were very good indeed. There are plenty of great records to choose from. I chatted more with the owners of the store, about collecting used records, the market today for new and used vinyl and the joy of listening to records on a real hi-fi system versus the poor sound MP3 files. I've been to many many record stores as I said. But I'd have to say, Sandy and Phil were the friendliest and most helpful proprietors, of a record shop, that I have encountered in my travels. I picked up Chubby Checkers folk album quite a rare find.As well as a couple of folk albums, one from Eric darling the other artist TomScott. As well as Bob Dylan's brand-new album- Shadows In The Night, The store has been open for about nine months as of January 2015. My time in the store was fantastic. Both Sandy and Phil made my experience at the stores very special. . I'll be sure to return often, to pick up many more vinyl records to add to my vast collection. The store is definitely worth a trip from anywhere in the Hudson Valley

I was almost instantly given the warmest welcome by their three volunteers, Mark, Scott, and Tom. My first interaction was with Mark who gave me a separate tour of the Theatre and provided the inside scoop into the history of the building, how it was built in the 18000s and saved so that it wouldn't be torn town. I admired the building, and how they keep it preserved. The moldings on the wall were beautiful, the tiling, and the architectural design of the theatre was preserved for 300 years and is still running. I was also given a small peek into the old projector room that they don't use anymore. I didn't know this until now but this theatre is a favorite of my grandparents. I was also a fan of the DVD donation collection that they had in the shop. It's huge! They have plenty of genres for all ages and that's when I had a fun conversation with Tom about movies, and famous actors. If you take the time to stop and talk to them, they are pretty great. I found the movie I was looking for which is pretty cool seeing as the chances were slim but I was happy and purchased a few extras. Each DVD is around $2 but I don't know how much the records are. Scott is also really kind and personable as well and will answer any and all questions you have about music, the difference they make for the theatre, and where you can find them on social media. If you ever find yourself in Tarrytown and you're looking for a place to find good music and a really cool movie collection coming here is the best choice. That's the same if you would like to meet some really cool people who care a lot about the theatre and it's history. So please come browse, chill, donate, or even volunteer. You'll be glad you did.

These are not pristine records, they're donations. Either its' $2 unless marked' (as posted everywhere), or its '$2 unless marked, or possibly more when you bring a record up and the guy randomly decides he wants to charge more.'
