Excellent Experience with TJ and Mike. TJ is thoughtful and courteous at all times. This is a busy store and I admire and respect anyone who can run such a challenging business. Mike's a big guy and my first reaction was, "I'm scared of him". Turns out he's a retired NYC Detective and once we started to chat, I found him to be charming and extremely engaging. I'm in the process of relinquishing my LP collection (I'm 72 and have a pretty big inventory). Hence, I'm a seller and not a buyer and yet I have been treated with respect and courtesy and was very happy with the transactions. I like this record store. I really do first the negatives they don't take credit cards as a non-cash person I prefer to pay with a credit card. What a shame prepared with cash or you don't get your own stuff I don't condition. Some of the records the greatest are the greatest you might wanna if you know how to look at a record to see how What conditions and check it out before buying the prices are a bit high but when you find a deal you find out if you're in the area, which has very few record stores. PS if you're coming to look for CDs, you're out of luck as they don't carry much. only a few dollar ones which I had most of out in front. read more

My wife, son and I truly enjoy digging through vinyl collections at the few record stores in the area. We recently made a trip to Clockwork Records after reading about them online. Simply put, they have a great collection including some real rarities, a very accurate grading system and a knowledgeable and helpful staff. Pricing was completely in line with the market. Solid store, especially for obscure NYHC. Staff are super chill. I found some real gems here a few years ago, and now that we live in the area, plan to pop in at least once a month. A charming store. During COVID they limit customers to 6-7, which seems about right given the size of the premises - it's fairly spacious. I waited about two minutes to enter on a frigid Saturday, when I left there were about five people in line. Until the plague is over, if you can, come at an off hour - I'll return during the week. As I did not want to keep people waiting unnecessarily, I limited myself to perusing jazz on my visit. There was a decent selection, priced according to rarity and demand - they know what they are doing. I wound up buying three albums - one was perfect, but the other two had a good bit of noise, which is the only reason I am not giving the store five stars. I had inspected the albums visually, but that does not always tell the tale. Next time, I might ask if they will play a track before I buy, but again I did not want to keep people waiting in the cold. Before purchasing, I checked store policy -- the counter person said they will accept returns if a record skips. Finally, make sure you get one of their cool orange bags if you make a purchase. Excellent record store I discovered on a day trip to Hastings-On-Hudson. Clockworks' selections range from new vinyl, priced for collectors but reasonable, to great used vinyl at affordable prices. I bought John Barry's score for the 1979 movie The Black Hole, and Arthur Blythe's Blythe Spirit, both used but in great condition, for less than $10 each. Highly recommended! read more

Walking into Clockwork Records was like walking into a time machine. Back into those great Greenwich Village record stores of the late seventies where you'll sort through those wonderful LP's looking for a few buried treasures. Well - there's a few to be found here and at reasonable prices. The store may be small but the selections are vast. From Sinatra's "Only The Lonely" to Jeff Beck's "Blow By Blow" - if you're seeking you shall find...something. Place seems to be respected locally as during our visit we noticed visitors offering album donations to the store. And all during our stay vinyl is playing loud and clear. Nice. Had an excellent experience here. Cool store with good public parking lot across the street. Owner was solo, and was totally cool balancing us and other customers' needs. We were pretty low-end shoppers, but he gave us plenty of time and attention and a good education on turntables. Great to see one of these stores still in the area. read more

I pass by this record store very often and decided to check it out on Yelp...the reviews made me reluctant to give this place a chance, but I'm pretty accustomed to snot-nose businesses in the Westchester area so I decided that the worst that could happen was another encounter with a pretentious store owner. Well I was wrong, and I'm glad I went in. I've been collecting records for a few years now and I love the smell/feel/sound/nostalgia of used ones, so it helps that this place is not too far from me. My sister and I were greeted very warmly by the staff and the owner (that other yelpers seem to say was mean and intimidating). He helped my sister find an Elvis album and made polite conversation with us. They have a great selection of older records (which are the ones I'm looking for). I bought a pristine copy of a Doors record for 15 bucks when it was selling for 30 on Amazon (without the vintage character). One of the gentlemen working there also told me to come back on record store day (April 22nd) because they'd have a lot of new inventory and would be open earlier. I really recommend this place for anyone looking to browse/buy - you'll most likely find what you're looking for here. Don't let the other reviews turn you off. read more

My only minus is that I did feel that it was a little pricey HOWEVER if you are someone who is looking for something specific you can easily find it here. I think that is worth the extra 15-20% you may save by digging through antique shops. When I walked in the music was playing and it felt like a place I could hang out at for hours. Man, I wish they served beer, I probably would have been there a while. After flipping through a little, I wandered downstairs and there was an art exhibit going on! How fricken sweet that was! Space sharing for different artists. Keep it up, but if you wouldn't mind setting aside a box of disorganized $1 and $2 records that may fit in your $5-$7 range, I'd love to dig. read more

Clockwork is a Godsend.The records are clean and prices are more than fair.And Mike gets the records that you probably forgot existed at one time or the other.I picked up original mono copies of Beatles VI and Beatles 65 for under 15 bucks apiece and both looked like they never had a needle put down on them.Something for everybody here.I'm 62 and have been collecting records since I was 7 years old and also sold records as well. A small-ish record shop that is well curated by people who really know both music and records. They go really deep into some genres and can help you find something new given your taste. Also, very helpful if you have questions about collecting, fidelity, or even who's playing locally. LPs are well graded in good condition. You're unlikely to walk away regretting a purchase. On Friday Dec 17 I traveled to Hastings to visit a recrord store called Clockwork records. The young man behind the desk inquired about My visit and was receptive courteous and quite helpful. I was seeing about selling some vinyl records. the young man examined a fewalbums I brought with Me and choose a half dozen to show the OWNER. The OWNER knew His business and had a good eye. I gave HIM a copy of a partial list of My records. He said let ME make a list of the records that He would be interested in and took My records and list to a back location. He returned with My records and HIS list. HE listed 18 artists that HE was interested in. HE then offerd Me $40 for four albums that were still factory sealed. I said I would take My albums with Me and return with HIS list.I drove the 12 miles home and spent the better half of an hour putting togrther HIS list. I was all set to return with 47 albums plus the four sealed albums, but I decided let ME make sure HE,the OWNER was still at the store. I called and the OWNER picked up and I explained Who I was and asked if HE was going to be there.HE said to Me IM NOT INTERESTED! I said excuse ME I just finished the list You gave Me of the albums that YOU asked Me to select for YOU ?? HE said "IM NOT INTERESTED" AND HUNG UP THE PHONE. i waited for a couple of minutes and called HIS store back and HE would not pick of the phone . Mike has the best 4 for 10$ bin on the coast in fact I don't think any other has a 4 for 10$ rack where you can get the quality records that I've picked up in there. All these people saying negative stuff about the store are probably people who think their experts at grading vinyl but play on their records on a Crosley. Nothing against them but it's no the go to turntable for me. Mike always has a great story to tell and I always leave with at least three good records. The only regret I have is when I discover that Clockwork has an album at half the price and twice the quality than a version I bought from Ebay . Been here twice. Live in The Bronx and was looking for a record store not too far away that's not a total disaster when you walk in and actually carries rock and metal. Saw the response by the owner trashing some dope who gave a negative review and had to check it out. 20 minutes from my house and has an incredible selection. Loved it. Walked out with some gems, like a Suicidal Tendencies promo album for the album Lights, Camera, Revolution. Which included tracks and interviews with Mike Muir. I've visited here a few times and I've never been overly impressed. They do not grade their records well and most of my purchases have turned out to not play well, even when I check them in store. The owner is also not very friendly. He seems to just sit in his office blaring goodness knows what and never interacting with the customers while the associates don't seem knowledgable on music, etc. Go by there if your close and have free time, but if you are not, don't make the trip. read more

I've never been to such an overpriced vinyl shop in my life. We came here on a recommendation but was warned that it was more expensive than most, but it was really absurd for the condition of the records. If they were rare or hard to find it would be one thing, but almost everything was beat up and run of the mill for no less than $20. You can find almost all of those records brand new tons of places for that price so it's crazy to pay that much for something that will ruin your stylus. Never returning. read more

I have been shopping at Clockwork for a few years now and it is BY FAR my favorite record store. Mike has an amazing collection of records and he always has what I am looking for. Even if I go here just to look around I end up finding something amazing. The whole store has a great vibe. Everyone that works here is honest, attentive and very knowledgeable. Mike always recommends amazing artists based off of what music you are into. I never leave this store disappointed and there is nothing better than that. Tiny but excellent record store with a fabulous punk and rock section. Everything is well organized and the staff is courteous. Found a holy grail, X's "Los Angeles," as well as the Cult's "Sonic Temple" and The Damned "Black Album." Total bill was $54. Well worth it. read more

Looks like a pretty good store but I won't have a chance to find out for sure. I called and asked them to set aside a record for me to pick up the next day. They agreed to do so. When I showed up the next day they had sold the record to someone else. Not a nice thing to do, but if you do something like that, just have the decency to apologize. Instead the owner blamed me for coming too close to closing time. I did what I said I was going to do. Was it too much to ask the same thing from the owner? All they had to do was hold the record for a single day. Was that really too much to ask? The owner made of point of telling me that he didn't know me and that I was not a regular customer. I left with two DEVO records, mint condition (one was a picture disc of "Q. Are We Not Men?...") and Brian Eno's "Music for Films." Let me start off by saying that I never leave Yelp reviews but my boyfriend and I had such a great time at clockwork records yesterday that I'm compelled to do so. The staff was cool, prices are comparable to any other record store, they also have some posters and books. I wish there was a little bit more of a selection...but I think they might've been doing a massive spring cleaning. This place is a total ripoff. They had a large area labelled 50% off. I spent an hour going through the section, picking out 12 records. The young, arrogant cashier rang them up at full price. I protested that ALL of the records were in the 50% off area. He went through the stack, stating "This doesn't qualify" [for the discount] with respect to 10 of the 12 records. In my opinion avoid this vynyl store at all costs. Read similar reviews below. I heard about this store and stopped in to ask if they buy records. The nice young guy up front told me yes and to bring them in for evaluation. I thanked him and asked where certain artists were and began looking at the records. Then an older male came out from the back and in a menacing manner asked if I was looking at the records because I wanted to sell mine. I said yes but I realized that there were variables such as age, condition, and the fact that the store had to make a profit so their retail price would not be what I would receive. In a very nasty and I feel menacing manner he said that my looking offended him. Perplexed, I apologized and said I really did not understand or mean to offend him. At that point he refused to answer my questions and said they were not buying any records now. I continued to look and found a classic 60's album listed as having the original poster in the album. I examined the poster. That poster if original (Dylan) alone goes for over 1K. To me it would be unlikely for the nominal price of the album here that the person in charge did not have a true knowledge of 60's vinyl. Anyway read the other negative reviews below about the nasty staff and questionable practices. In my opinion I would never go back or recommend this place to anyone. If buying and selling were fair what does he have to be 'offended' about when anyone browses? I will let everyone else be the judge. read more

I've always had very positive experiences here. I have no complaints about the staff, who don't bother me while I take hours to dig through every crate. But, if you ask a question, they answer it; if you need advice, they give it. Actually, it was the owner who got me back into vinyl just by telling me about the modestly priced turntable in the shop. I bought it a few weeks later and started collecting all the records I had as a kid. A VG+ copy of Queen's Night at the Opera cost me all of $12.99, so I think the overall prices are more than fair. Granted, some of the used records cost as much as new ones, but I would rather have an original analog recording from two-inch tape than an MP3 file transferred onto a piece of vinyl. New master tape recordings cost at least $25 - if they're available. Mike also gets industry promo stuff like store posters and records that are virtually unplayed. If all this is not enough to give this place a shot, then consider that Clockwork draws guys from the NYC Hardcore scene. Where else can you rub elbows with Agnostic Front and the Misfits? read more
