Steaks and sides follow all your expectations. As the resort is all-inclusive, it's already paid for. However, there are options to supplement your meal - at a cost. Think waygu or tomahawk. I am writing to formally express my profound disappointment regarding the continued deterioration in service quality at Moon Palace Cancun, particularly during my current stay. I have been a loyal guest of Moon Palace for approximately 14 years and hold Residence Membership, the highest tier of membership offered. Over the years, my family and I have consistently chosen Moon Palace for our annual vacation, spending $20,000-$50,000 per year for a one-week stay. This loyalty has been based on trust in the quality, professionalism, and integrity that Moon Palace once represented. Unfortunately, the experience this year represents the lowest point I have encountered. On New Year's Eve, I attended the special dinner at JC Steakhouse. During dinner, an individual introduced as a sommelier aggressively attempted to sell a bottle of red wine priced at approximately $250. As someone familiar with wine pricing and quality, it was immediately clear that the value did not justify the cost. When I declined, the sommelier responded in an openly dismissive and insulting manner, stating words to the effect of: "Since you are not interested in anything special, I will have you served by a regular waiter instead of a sommelier." He then walked away. This interaction was humiliating, unprofessional, and entirely inappropriate--especially toward a Residence member attending a New Year's celebration. When I requested that the manager bring the sommelier back to address the situation, he never returned for the remainder of the dinner, nor was any meaningful attempt made to resolve the issue. Regrettably, this incident reflects a broader trend I have observed over recent years: declining food quality, worsening service standards, and an increasing emphasis on pressuring guests to spend additional money rather than providing genuine hospitality. At this point, I can state clearly that I will not spend any additional discretionary money at Moon Palace, and I am seriously reconsidering future stays. Moreover, based on my experience, I cannot in good conscience recommend Moon Palace timeshare ownership to others. This letter is not written lightly. It comes from a long-time, high-tier member who expected--and deserved--better. I request a formal response from executive management addressing: 1. The conduct of the sommelier and lack of managerial follow-up 2. The broader decline in service standards 3. Such a nice steak house. It's a must-go when you are having vacation at the Moon Palace! We tried a number of their signature dishes and they were beautifully grilled. The Charred Octopus is marinated with pepper oil, served with confit potatoes and arugula. It topped with herb and caper vinaigrette. Perfectly grilled and it is highly recommended. As for the mains, the New York 10 oz. was fantastically grilled to perfection. What an excellent steak! The Rib Eye 10 oz. was also nicely grilled. Great medium rare texture with good meat quality. And the sirloin filet 7 oz. is not good for IG at all, but it was surprisingly tender. Thumbs up! For the Picanha 14 oz (for 2), it was a little underwhelmed with the meat texture. A bit chewy even though it's already done medium rare with good fat around it. Honestly, it could have been done better. Nice servers around with good attentiveness. Great dining hall. We had high hopes as this was one of the 3 highest rated restaurants at The Grand. We started with the short rib tacos and the shrimp cocktail. The short rib tacos were tasty, the shrimp cocktail was unremarkable. For our main course we ordered the sirloin and the rib eye. Sirloin was tough and overcooked, the rib eye was pretty good, both were ordered medium rare. We both had the mashed potatoes with garlic which were very good. The creamed corn I would pass on, corn was a bit tough and the dish wasn't really creamy. For dessert we had the chocolate lava cake and the cheesecake. Lava cake wasn't really a lava cake and not so good, the winner of the night was the cheesecake, I wish I had ordered 2 of them. They were busy and service was a bit slow, but acceptable. read more

Starting off, the interior is really nicely decorated, large, and spacious. At first glance, definitely looks a little upscale. My brother had made a reservation using the Palace Resorts app for 4 people at 6:30 PM. When we showed up, the hosts had difficulty finding the right reservation and told us that our reservation was for 14 people under a different name at a different time despite us telling him our room number and correct last name. The switch-up didn't give us the greatest first impression but the food quickly made up for it. The appetizers were great and the steaks were even better though my mom's was a little too medium rare to the point where it was much too red and chewy and that's coming from a family who loves our meat medium rare. The sides were a little lacking as well - we were not expecting half of a potato for the baked potato, the Mac & cheese tasted like it came from a box, and the creamy spinach was a little runny. Dessert was redeeming with goat cheese cheesecake and a white chocolate raspberry bread pudding. Service was on point and very attentive. For the most part, my family loved the food here and my dad definitely left the restaurant raving about it to the rest of our extended family. read more

Not great. I went on two separate occasions. I didn't have a great experience my first go round in a party of 2, I reserved my review and gave JC a try again. This time as a party of 6. Appetizers were just ok. The star was the fried calimari. Kids ate it up. Bone marrow was good as well. But the reason anyone goes, is the steak. The required reservations infer a great, much sought after experience. The ambiance eludes to gastronomic excitement. The steaks themselves, they were a let down. First dining experience, we had the picanha for two. The second time, we did the château Sirlion steak. Both cuts were very uneven, leading to internal temperature all over the place. Recommendation: stay away from the bigger cuts for 2 or 3. It's much harder to cook and have been severely underwhelmed both times. Get the individual steaks for a better steak experience. My 3 kids shared an individual ribeye that was cooked beautifully and was a great steak. The sides were bland. Mac and cheese was bland. Not sure if I ever had Mac that missed the mark more than these. Mushrooms were unseasoned. Asparagus was over done. Garlic mash was great. Perhaps the mediocrity of the field made them taste better than they really were, but I liked them. read more

They have taken the lamb off the menu, which is a huge disappointment. Some of the steaks have been taken off as well. Don't eat the lobster , had to take a sooner flight home after eating lobster that gave me SEVERE FOOD POISONING ! Fever ,chills , and vomiting at least 25 times through the night with diarrhea and stomach cramps that felt like my intestines were being tied into knots , back feeling like it was ripping open and fatigue that left me needing a wheel chair at the airport ... which led to me needing a medical clearance from a medic and then the US needed to clear me to be accepted when I arrive home. This resort is NOT worth the money , it has gone downhill since Covid and in my opinion never recovered. Our trip was cut 3 days short due to this food poisoning making me so ill I could hardly walk. I will say ,México was amazing in assisting me to get home and it was much appreciated We will not return ~ The Grand Moon Palace cost a grand or more extra but does not stand up to measure. When we went for dinner, we had already been to the Grill and were not impressed. - Loud volume (like most restaurants at the Grand, but without open windows, the sound is contained) - Slow service, and dishes coming out in illogical order - appetizers along with the mains... - Waitstaff training was variable (they seemed to have a lot of new people) - The steaks were cooked to arbitrary temperature, and were not the most flavorful we've ever had All in all, it felt like a wasted meal, especially compared to other venues at the resort. It was close to impossible to get a reservation. When we finally got in we were beyond disappointed. The service was absolutely fine. The entrees were midgrade at best. My bone marrow appetizer was probably the highlight of the meal. It was creamy and delicious. Should have ordered another. Crab cakes had very little in terms of crab. Mostly filler. A disappointment. Shrimp cocktail was your garden variety. Decent cocktail sauce. Decided to splurge and do the Porterhouse for two cooked medium rare. What we got was served raw to rare. Didn't dare send it back, as my experience we would have gotten it back well done and ruined. Not sure why my wife got the Branzino. She really wanted a Filet, but it's not an option. Not sure why a fine steakhouse isn't offering a 6 oz. Filet, or a larger cut for a supplemented price. Huge miss here. Branzino was flavorless and inedible, as if it came from the freezer. The short rib was well-received, but in all honesty, a steakhouse needs to serve quality steaks and they're just not up to snuff here. Even the sides are limited in their selection and quality. Of the 6 sides, 3 are potatoes. Fries were terrible. The wine list, while adequate does not offer any quality selections without having to pay a supplement. Did a very basic/entry level Malbec for a $43 supplement. It's a $20 bottle of wine at best from a liquor store being served at an all-inclusive resort. Pretty shameful. We sat down for 30 minutes before getting any drinks despite asking for it 3 times. My kids were thirsty and their water wasn't refilled. I know that complicated things - BUT - 1 table was done completely, including dessert, and the other was still getting served main courses... despite all being seated at the same time. Table 1 was given bread, table 2 (my table) was not... having stollen some of theirs, we determined that it was very good and we asked for some. It came out right before dessert. I had short rib tacos for app - very good. Then the short rib meal, which were told didn't come with sides so we ordered sides... it came with sides so we had double potatoes and I'm ok with that... no such thing as too many taters! It was ok, loved the truffle mashed potatoes and the mushroom sauce. Dessert - I tried both the goat cheese cheesecake (friend ordered) & the chocolate lava cake - neither were to my liking and I adore both goat cheese and chocolate. Drinks were good but it took an act of nature to get additional drinks. Between the inconsistent service and the dishes that were a miss, I feel like this was very middle of the road. The steakhouse was my favorite dining experience in the Grand Moon Palace. Reservations can be rough to come by even when the resort is at 40% capacity. It's hard to understand why they limit people when it's physically empty. We loved the crab cake appetizer. Crunchy, flavorful and the sauce was a great accent. We also tried the zucchini goat cheese appetizer but suggest skipping that one! The sides were our favorite part of the meal. Creamed corn, au gratin potatoes and the mashed were fantastic. I ordered the salmon entree and my friend scored 3 musketeers which was three filets with the 3 different sauces. The salmon was perfectly cooked and served with asparagus. The staff really worked hard to provide and excellent experience! Chef Julio even stopped out to meet us! Make sure you reserve this one early! read more

This place is not just a steakhouse. My husband and I came here on our first night. Everything we ordered was amazing. The only con would be that I haven't found any good steak in Mexico so far and didn't find it here. We started with the beet carpaccio, beef carpaccio, razorback clams to start. They were light enough to not fill us up right away. I also got a special birthday drink which was really good and my husband ordered a bottle of Caymus. For out entree my husband picked out the lobster and he ordered the octopus. The cheesecake was delicious and so was the lava cake. It was amazing having the staff sing to me. The staff was wonderful. Our friend Carlos did ans amazing job. We are going there again before we leave. read more

This is my favorite restaurant at the Grand so far. It's beautiful inside and a great place to go all dressed up. I got a ginger lemon drop, the spring linguine, and chocolate lava cake and everything was so fresh and delicious. Order drinks, appetizers, and main course at the same time. Crab Cake is a MUST. Also get some calamari. 5. Enjoy your wine and munch on the appetizers while you wait for the main course. We ate here twice, once for dinner and once for lunch, and the menu is exactly the same, so I'll just review all the dishes that we had: - Salmon Carpaccio: unlike traditional versions of this dish, this one does not use raw salmon, but rather smoked. It is cut very finely, to the point that it sticks to the dish. Anyway, it was a nicely presented dish and tasted fine, if not just a tad bit difficult to eat. Ordered this one like 3 times. - Beet Carpaccio: very VERY sweet, and has a layer of syrup on top that I don't think comes naturally from beets (but I'm not sure bc I rarely eat beets). It does act as a nice counter-balance to the rich, savory meat dishes that you will be eating later. But it is too sweet to act as a palate cleanser. - Crab Cakes: these small little suckers were tasty. I feel like they are the frozen ones you might get from Costco, but they were still delicious and served with creamy tartar sauce on the side, so who cares. I'd recommend ordering this. - Bone Marrow: skip this one - they did not cook the bones long enough, so the marrow hardened into a paste that had the consistency of butter. The marrow stuck all over the roof of our mouths and was impossible to scrape off without some "digital exploration." Not pleasant at all. - Side Dishes: the mushrooms are must have, but skip the truffled mash potatoes. They taste too much of the truffle oil and tasted very watery. The creamed corn was good! - Three Musketeers: this was a filet of trios with different sauces. The meat was pretty tender, but I was disappointed with the sauces. I wish the waiter had described what each sauce was, because they all tasted pretty similar. Also, that much filet mignon gets a little tedious to go through. I would order the individual portion next time and pick a sauce you actually like. - Short-Rib: I was expecting a bone-in short-rib piece, but it was sliced flat like Korean galbi style. The flavor of the meat was not bad, but it was a little tough. - Cowboy Steak: although this one costs a few resort credits, it was massive and delicious. I was also happy that the chefs had cooked the steak to a perfect medium rare. - Ribeye: similar to the cowboy steak, but just a bit thinner. A great choice if you don't want to use resort credits. - Picanha: I love this slice of meat at Brazilian barbecues and I had never seen it offered as a steak, so I had to try it. I would recommend cutting the slices very thin as you eat it, as the meat is a little chewier than other cuts. Otherwise, the fat cap adds a rich flavor that is needed in the tougher body of the steak. read more

'My opinion in a summary: stick with the meats ! This is my personal opinion on today's visit to JC Steakhouse. We had a steak, short ribs and a burger and I have to say all three meats were super tasty and cooked to perfection. So why not 5 stars but only 3: - short ribs were slightly lukewarm - fries with truffle never came - salad didn't come at first and only after asking - was half way through with my steak; plus I didn't eat the salad as after the first bite it tasted strange to me and also to my wife - regular fries side of the burgers lacked salt and there was no salt at table to add - small plates for bread were not set up for two out of the three of us, and when they were brought, no butter knife was provided - shrimp cocktail was ok - crab cake were tasty but slightly spicy - caramel ice cream was watery as it melted BUT chocolate lava cake was DELICIOUS! The chocolate lava of perfect consistency and overall fantastic dessert. So somewhere between 3 and 4 stars seems a fair star rating in my opinion's scale. Decided for three as this is one of the restaurants which it is hard to get a table and. I would have expected a little bit more than what I feel that I have experienced. The restaurant was only 70% full when I was there. I think they might hold some table for special guests. Service was very slow at start - it took 30 mins to get our drinks. The Razors clams were my favorite. They have the same dish at their Caribeano Restaurant which was also good, but this was much better with the extra jalapeño peppers and more savory. The tomahawk steak was a little chewy then expected but it was done nicely at medium rare as we asked and very flavorful. Bone marrow was average, nothing special. I wasn't expecting an iceberg wedge when I ordered a Cobb salad, and didn't love the dressing but honestly the rest of the experience completely made up for it.
