It's hard to express how unbelievably disappointing this restaurant was. I am highly doubtful that people giving rave reviews about Jayd Bun are well versed in Chinese cuisine, and it really is a shocker to me that they made a Yelp top list, beating out several other restaurants in more densely Asian populated areas in the Northeast. Firstly, inside the restaurant they have a bunch of unnecessary memorabilia and a written story about how the owner and owner's wife got together - there is a heavy emphasis placed on how this is home style authentic Chinese cuisine because of this. But, this felt totally icky to me because authentic restaurants shouldn't need to advertise that they're authentic. You usually can tell right away based on certain elements of a restaurant which sadly were not present in the room. Secondly the wait was 45-60min for takeout. Their reasoning was that this is "not fast food" (literally written on a sign) but their menu includes several items including pan fried buns and sausage crepes which are literally fast foods - you can literally buy them on carts elsewhere. There were not any complex dishes on their menu that couldn't be premade to some degree. When we did actually get the food, it was a letdown. The skins on the buns were tough and chewy. The only redeeming part of the trip down was that we could take the food to Whalers brewery so we could wash down the food with quality drinks. If you want Chinese food that isn't overhyped I can think of at least three options inside Providence that have less hype and better food. Love coming to Jayd Bun!! Def a hidden gem in Wakefield! The service here is great and the workers are super polite. I typically get the food to-go because there's no seating inside, but they do have seating outdoors. As you can see from my photos(if they uploaded), I love the pork buns. Every time I post photos of my food from here on my Insta stories my friends/followers also ask me "where my foods from?" and "what did I order?" The wait is over...I finally stopped at Jayd Bun to check out what the hype is about and it checked out! Although there is a wait for your order, it is well worth it. Trust me on this one. Since I was biking on the path that runs right next to the restaurant, I called my order ahead which is recommended and eventually got through after the seventh round of calling. But I took that as a good sign. I decided to try one order of pork buns and the Spicy Yo Po noodles - both ended up being solid picks. Food was ready for the time I was given and plenty warm. Since it was nice outside, I ate at a table on the side of the restaurant where I could also park my bike. The buns were soft, juicy and packed with flavor, especially using the sauce provided. The noodles you could tell were freshly made, but it was the flavor that really got my tastebuds intrigued. Something about the light but moderately spicy sauce peaked my curiosity. It was satisfying. It was unique. And my mission was accomplished. I must add that while eating, one of the staff members came outside and provided a $10 off voucher to each customer group including myself. This spot serves some of the BEST pork buns that I've ever experienced. This shop offers many delicious items from authentic Asian street food, to noodles, and dumplings galore! For my first time order, I got takeaway of four items to share with my partner. The Pork Buns are a must! They were the size of my fist and certainly packed a punch in flavor. They were pillowy and porky, soft and doughy, with a lightly crispy bottom. Additionally, the Jin Jin Dumplings were also fantastic. I loved the chewy yet delicate texture of the dumpling skin. The spicy wontons were another hit since our taste buds can handle a lot of spice. They were certainly covered in super spicy sauce! And the Spicy Po Yo handmade noodles rounded out the entire meal. Jayd Bun seems to be a lovely neighborhood spot with really friendly and hospitable servers. The associate learned that it was my first time and offered me a coupon to come back and a drink on the house. How lovely are they! And the takeaway had little candy treats to enjoy after the meal. This is a nicely added touch to my first experience. I drove from Boston to here on a Saturday when they first opened at noon. There is an outdoor patio with picnic tables and a small parking lot. These noodles are so good. They are fresh and have amazing, soft texture I got their October noodles dish. There wasn't much pork which I expect because it's all about their noodles. However, I'm disappointed in the lack of flavor. I'm so surprised because the dishes' description says "a savory flavor you have never experienced." I really did not taste anything. There was no distinct flavor and not too much spice. A little while back, I got their pork buns which were pretty good, but now I remember those didn't have too much flavor either. I should've got their noodle dish with the peanut sauce or maybe the one with the sweet and tangy sauce. I'll give their noodle dishes another try because I can tell how fresh the food is. Jayd Bun has a lot of hype behind it, but it's not just hearsay. This authentic Chinese restaurant is serving up some seriously delicious eats. I also have to comment on how nice the staff is here. On my first visit, they were running a bit behind, so they gave us 2 $10 off coupons, 2 free drinks, and even a small cup of soup. Not to say that is to ever be expected, but it was very much appreciated. Now for the meals - my husband and I split the pork buns and spicy yo po noodles. Buns and noodles are 2 things I can always be in the mood for, but I would take a special trip to Jayd Bun any day for these dishes. The buns are massive, unique, and delicious. The bottoms have a nice crispy base but the rest is chewy and pillowy. The filling is also super flavorful and the sauce served on the side is a great accompaniment. I do think they're difficult to eat, but totally worth the mess. The spicy yo po noodle dish I will always highly recommend. The noodles are thick and so chewy and the sauce is a flavor explosion in your mouth with just the right amount of heat. The added veggies lend some nice texture, and the egg ties the dish together. Seriously so good! As much as I love Jayd Bun, a big setback for me is that they are a takeout only restaurant. In my opinion, they do some of their dishes a disservice by not serving them fresh. With the plastic containers sealed up tightly, the food can continue to steam and cook further. So, I don't recommend traveling far to eat, otherwise your noodles may be on the soft side. With that said, I still think Jayd Bun offers some truly great Chinese dishes, and it very high up on my list of favorite restaurants and recommendations! read more

I can't say enough positive things about Jayd Bun!! #2 chinese restaurant in the US run and owned by the sweetest couple. Everything was so fresh and delicious. We got the October Noodles, chicken jin jins, and the pork buns were AMAZING. The customer service was best at all. You are encouraged to order via email the day before to avoid waiting hours which I did, but they were already sold out for the 1pm slots. I couldn't make the next available time so I thanked Chef Joe for his patience with my order anyways and he was able to squeeze us in!! THEN when we showed up he surprised us with a free order of yopo (which ended up being one of our favorite dishes). Unfortunately, We missed saying hi and thanks to Chef Joe (he's a busy guy!!) but we are so grateful for his kindness The food and service was unmatched. Checked this place out for the first time tonight. Staff is very friendly. Waiting area is pretty small and it was getting a little claustrophobic in there waiting for my pickup. Obviously many others are excited to try them out as well. I didn't have to wait long (5 minutes maybe). Ordered the pork Jin Jin. Absolutely Heavenly! Right up there with my favorite San Francisco dumpling place. The dough is so light and the flavors are off the chart! Will be back to try their Buns for sure! read more

GO.....DONT THINK ABOUT IT....GO. worth all the hype...placed our order on monday for friday..got there still had to wait about 10 mins more for our order and you know what shut up dont be mad...because what we recieved was all worth it...only 5 buns in the photo cause my wife and I cracked into one in the parking lot....we both took a pork bun bird bath...super juicy and very flavorful the fire lamb jin jins are not for the weak but if you can tolerate spice....dear god most amazing lamb ive had from any resturant. The October noodles are a very refreshing noodle dish great for outdoor spring or summer outdoor dining and the black bean noodle was very rich and noodles had the perfect bite...I poured some of the house made chili oil to me took it over the top....outdoor dining was small and nice but its much more of a get your food get out and enjoy type which im not mad at one bit....will definitely be making the return trip 5 stars aren't enough....great job guys I wish you all the success in the world and I plan on enjoying many more meals there read more

I originally visited Jayd Bun as part of a Yelp Elite Event but decided to order a ton of extra food for my family to try a bunch of different dishes. Boy are we glad we did! First of all, the staff are all incredible here. Sooooo kind and warm and friendly. I called my order in shortly after they opened for the day and said what time I wanted to pick up. The entire process was smooth and easy. The food. Omg the food. Every bite of everything we ordered and sampled was perfect. No notes. I only wish it was closer to home so I could get it all the time! Next time we will plan to grab our good and take it over to Whaler's or if the weather is nice eat at one of the picnic tables outside. 100% deserving of their accolades. I tried Jayd Bun for the first time & here's what you need to know: 1. This looks like a local dive but it is actually one of the most recognized and highly awarded restaurants in the state. 2. Since it was just recognized as the #2 Chinese Restaurant in the U.S., it is busier than ever - so expect longer wait times. 3. They are take-out ONLY. Forget about taking your aesthetic instagram pics here - sorry! - but some people will take it down the street to @whalersbrewing or @drinksol to enjoy with a drink in hand. 4. It is family owned and operated and everyone is greeted by the owner. There's something so special about that personal connection with each guest, which really makes it stand out. 5. The menu is kind of hidden (amongst their many awards) so it's probably a good idea to pull up their menu and figure out what you want before you call ahead or walk in (like I did). 6. Jayd Bun is AMAZING. They consistently put out flavorful, hot, authentic food. They do not have indoor seating for eating your food, but they have an outdoor patio for when the weather is warmer. You are also recommended to call in every order because they make everything to order and need a little time. (Pro tip - call in your food and go across the street to Whaler's Brewing and support TWO local businesses! Whaler's is BYOF (Bring your own food)) I brought my boyfriend with me to get our food and he ordered pork buns, his favorite. I ordered the chicken bun combo. This was not my first time at Jayd Bun. At previous visits, I got to speak with one of the owners, Joe, who you can clearly tell is passionate about this business and the food him and his wife serve. It's a family business, so sometimes you will see their sweet daughter waiting for her parents who are hard at work. My only complaint is that I wish they were open while I was a student at URI! Their site warned the order of buns included "6 big pieces of perfectly pan fried buns," and that was true - the sheer heartiness and heft of these beauties was still a surprise, though. And so utterly savory. The Spicy Yo Po...I nearly got lost in the thick noodles at rest under the fried egg, with my chopsticks working through this bounty like a pitchfork trying to tame a haystack. It's all been so warming, delicious, and satisfying. Flavor bursts forth. Pro tip, follow their instructions on ordering ahead (this isn't a just-drop-by joint), and you'll enjoy near-pinpoint order readiness with a smile and a thank you. The spot itself is unassuming but turns out just the cuisine you're looking for, fresh and ready to tote to other environs, whether that be a few welcoming places nearby or your own neck of the woods. This is a manufacturered overhyped place. There is no reason they need to play games with the ordering ahead and whatnot. Every other restaurant on earth, including authentic Chinese places in Boston and NYC, have normal food prep and can deliver delicious made-to-order food in a normal amount of time. This place has created this fake demand that people are falling for, including myself, and the food isn't worth the wait or price. Save yourself the hassle. It's basically like "world's best pizza" on every street corner in NYC. The signs inside the place are all made up and framed, making it look like they're been around winning awards for decades. P.S. if you don't believe me do your own research here or on Reddit about how the owner has created a false demand, pay for overrated reviews, fights with people giving low stars, and offers free meals to those writing higher star reviews. Shitty and false way to promote yourselves IMO and others should be warned. *EDIT TO ADD* Yes, I've been there, hence the review and comments about the food, interior, prices, and wait. Yesterday was the first time I've been to Jayd Bun. I found them on social media. The buns (BAO) were fantastic! I've been to China several times with my wife, and her parents gave me some; Chef Anne's bao revival those. A few years later, my in-laws moved to the USA, and my mother-in-law used to make them. Chef Anne's are better. Every dish is made to order, and you can tell. I cannot say enough good things about the boa. We will be back many times and will try many other dishes. read more

We got the October the the dumplings and the small appetizer dry dumplings. I know it's not popular but I had to give it three stars. Maybe I was expecting too much as the ratings were really high but first to review was the dumplings. Breading is good. Everything handmade made to order. Has a lil soup in therevso careful biting. They provide a nice semi sweet soy sauce with little scallions and side of black vinegar which is the norm for dumpling houses. The dumplings were OK . Maybe because I was expecting the flavor to pop out at me and give me that.mmmmmmm feeling, but it didn't. It was good, but didn't blow me away. The October was the one that we also got because of the description of being savory and just a little bit of heat. Maybe the kitchen was off this day. It seems like there was too much fermented cabbage, and it just came out to be a little bit tomato and a lot of acid in the flavor and leaving out the savory of the pork. We got the appetizer dumplings were three-quarter folded open face dumplings. They were good like your normal dumplings that you would get it at any place went well with the soy sauce. for those who are looking to check out the seaside southern Rhode Island in the mood for some spicy Asian food with some dumplings, definitely check it out. I placed my order a couple days in advance via email and it was ready pretty much on time and when I arrived there was quite a few people waiting for orders and I was greeted by the most pleasant young girl putting the orders together. I told her it was my first time there and she seemed just as excited for me to try the food as I was.
