I love the new atmosphere they created in this space. It has a nice energy to it! I went right after it opened and my food was delicious though not really hot enough temperature wise, and the service was horrible. Half of our table was served and we finally gave up on the other half and ate since our food was only like warm. They finally got served a good 15 minutes after our side of the table. We waited a few weeks and returned. It took awhile to be noticed that we were sitting there but The food was warmer when served and service was much improved. I do think the prices are a little high. It is Mexican food after all. Rice, beans, tortillas and a couple ounces of meat - why does it have to be so pricey? Definitely worth going and forming your own opinion! read more

We've been coming to Javi's since it opened and it's arguably been our favorite Mexican food joint in Tyler. That said the last few times we've gone we've had issues. It's starting to go downhill and don't know if it would be my first choice anymore. I'll focus on our last experience there which was several days ago. The restaurant smelled like mildew. The entire place stunk to the point we thought we may leave but we mentioned it to the waiter and he said they knew about it and trying to fix it. Next, our chips were stale. Really!? You're a Mexican food joint, you're turnover on chips is immediate. My wife's salad was dry as a bone. Had to request dressing, some of our food didn't make it out on time with the rest of our meal. Didn't bring ketchup with the kids burger. Drinks from the bar are slow as well. They need to get it together or we may not be back because this is not the first bad experience we've had over the last several months. read more

Took my best friend here while in town. Worse margarita ever and we both love margaritas. Bartendar tried to make it better but it was still terrible. Then manager tried, it was better but still not good. I watched as he made it and he didn't even know how to make one. I used to bartend years ago and I make a margarita at home all of the time. It's so easy to make but many screw it up. Send someone from chuys or Cantina Laredo over as they know how to make one. As a "Mexican" restaurant, you really should know how to make a basic margarita. I have not been back. read more

Went for the first time with my boyfriend for a date night. VERY IMPRESSED. The inside is beautiful and makes you feel like you're at a more upscale place but the prices are more than reasonable. Our food was beyond delicious, best restaurant meal I've had in a long time. The tomatillo sauce is amazing. The service was friendly. It was very busy when we got there and were told a 35 minute wait but barely waited 15. Our entire experience was great and are adding this to our regular rotation of date night options. read more

UPDATE: the manager took time to reply to my review and address our unpleasant experience. Based upon his response we intend to return and give them them another opportunity. We were offered a gift certificate. I do appreciate the offer but that's not necessary...all we ask for is a pleasant greeting and good service and we will be happy. I would have liked to have 0 stars. 3 months ago I would have given it 5 stars, but tonight was terrible. The sweet tea was not (someone didn't actually put sugar in it) it took 10 minutes to get the drinks (no alcohol) and then another 15 minutes to bring out what we actually ordered. When the food finally came out it was all cold and sour cream was on the food even though it wasn't listed on the menu. It took another 10 minutes to get a manager because the waitress didn't know what to do about our food being cold. The manager didn't seem to believe us and when we said its cold just take it back he asked if he could check, so he stuck his fingers completely inside our food to see for himself and said yes its cold. (We were sitting outside, so no it wasn't due to the AC) He did take the food off the bill, but still charged for the drinks (tea and kids drinks). Then the waitress didn't bother bringing us pens to sign the CC receipt. Totally awful and we will not go back EVER! To top it off it was my Birthday dinner!!! read more

We hosted a wedding shower for my sister upstairs here today (8/29/20) and I'm thankful for the staff at Javi's help! They were very pleasant, patient, and quick with our large group, even though we ran behind setting up, and our guests trickled in. The drinks and food were great! Food is really good considering the price point. Service is spotty at best and getting a drink from the bar can prove troublesome at times. But they have a beautiful location and a great patio so I'm sure they will work out the kinks. Give it a shot but be prepared to wait. read more

Wow. 5 stars on every level. Excellent chips and two different salsas. Service was perfect. Bar is top notch, and prices are good for top quality drinks. Patron on tap! Food was excellent - wife and I shared the Tex Mex Platter. Guacamole was spot on fresh, rice and beans were better than most in Tyler. Chicken enchilada was the best in town. The Usual was my favorite drink. Heavy amount of tequila, Topo Chico, and fresh lime juice (you mix yourself). Apple pie on iron skillet was a nice finish. In the old Julz location. Very good place to eat! Food is great, prices are great, service is great, and atmosphere and seating is beautiful and relaxing. Plenty of high tables for those that like that and plenty of room for big groups too. The restaurant holds more people than the parking lot so on busy nights you might have to be creative on parking. Javis has been our quarantine go to take out until now. The refried beans are normally good, but tonight were horrible. No on could eat them. Add stale chips to the mix and you have convinced me to go back to Chuys. Maybe they were busy or hired a new cook, but the food was well below average. read more

I have been several times to this restaurant with my husband and between the two of us we have tried quite a bit of the menu. The food is all good and the prices are very good for the quality of food you get. We have only been on the weekends and it is very busy and they don't take reservations then. We go early--before 6 and wait 10-15 minutes for a table. It has nice atmosphere and the patio is lovely to eat on if the weather is nice. The Tex mex platter is large and gives you a sample of many different things and they are all good. It is big enough for two people to share--which we have done--along with an appetizer. The carne asada is very good; as well as their many varieties of tacos and enchiladas. But my favorite Menu item is the Mexican shrimp cocktail. Their desserts are good but not great. The only thing I didn't like was their mixed vegetables which had an unusual flavor--Asian like with soy sauce or something like that--it just really didn't go with the rest of the food I got. read more

Service was mediocre. There wasn't a wait but it took awhile for our server to come to the table, bring our drinks (keep liquid in them), and quite a long time for the food. The chips taste like cheap store bought chips and the food was bland. Neither myself or my husband ate the white rice and corn that came with the fajitas. Anybody that thinks this crap is good mexican food has never had REAL mexican food. REAL mexican food is NOT hot, it's spicy, but these idiots think everything has to be so hot, you can't eat it, and 99.9999999999% of mexican restaurants in East Texas have the same affliction, stupidity, and they've got customers believing it. The best place for mexican food, REAL mexican food, without all the crap to make it hot, and disguise the real flavor is La Hacienda in Whitehouse. My Sis & BIL wanted to eat here. So we went. It was very upscale so I was ready to try. It was around 215 PM, not very busy. The service was ok but very slow. The food was even slower getting to the table. The beans were very bland & the rice was seasoned no where near any authentic mexican I've ever had & I've had authentic mexican here in the states & in Mexico. The cheese enchiladas were good but not even close to Papacitas. The chili con carne was great. My sis & BIL said the shrimp cocktail was outstanding. If you like really thick chips this is the place for you. The queso app w chihuahua cheese was really, really good. The bathrooms are almost Buccee-y. Veri nice & I love the live cacti on each table. If they sold them, I'd buy one. The food wasn't worth another trip for me. Papacitas is much, much better & their drinks are just as good. read more

reserved the clubhouse upstairs about a month ago. My party spent over $1000. Left a piece of equipment for the party in the clubhouse and immediately called javis to retrieve it. i was told it wasn't there and they would check the cameras and call me. Never heard anything back from them. Called 3 more times and was told i would receive a call back. I eventually had to go in person to talk to a manager after waiting for a call back for 3 weeks. The managers looked over the cameras that are not in the line of sight where the equipment was at. The manager apologized and said there was nothing they could do about it. The review is not about receiving the equipment back but about the poor customer service i received given that we spent over $1000 you would think that they would be on top off a matter like this. I could understand a pair of sunglasses isn't a big deal but a $70 piece of equipment is pretty important. Food was great but management and customer service is very poor. read more

Originally spoke with Greg - both professional and helpful - to schedule our office party for 28 people at Javi's for appetizers and drinks. I arrived a little early on party day and Nick met me and showed me our tables - they were very nice but not private and the area had lots of other customers already - we were offered a more private area upstairs in the cocktail lounge area that was perfect for our get-together. The decor is very stylish and the views are spectacular! Now let me get to the good part - food is not usually served in the lounge area but Nick made it happen for us and it was GREAT! We ordered 10 each of all the appetizers and they were all served very quickly and were mouthwatering - best guacamole ever! Our bartender, Tim McGraw (no kidding!) served us delicious tequila concoctions and beers. There was no waiting, there were no delays with any of our orders - everything worked out beautifully and we all left happy! Many of us plan to revisit Javi's for dinner soon.
