I had looked this restaurant up online and saw that it had a huge menu with a few vegetarian options so I was pretty excited about my first visit. The menu the very pleasant young waiter gave me was not what I had seen online so I questioned him about it. Turns out this is not part of the same restaurant chain. I was initially disappointed but not so after eating my delicious lunch! The food is great with seasonings that I couldn't quite pinpoint but loved! Presentation is very attractive and the ambiance within the restaurant is warm and inviting. Margaritas were made with a generous hand and very good. Tried Javi's for the first and last time. Great atmosphere, but the service was terrible. I ordered the PeruvIan shrimp tacos, and she orderEd the carne asada tacos. The shrimp looked like fish bait, and the taste was bland. She and I traded a taco, and she said the same about the shrimp taco. The steak taco's meat was tough. The guacamole was good, but the salsa was not our favorite either. Again, my first and last visit. read more

We ordered the carne asada tacos and Chile relleno with carne asada The tacos were very greasy and the cilantro rice was overcooked. You can tell their slaw was old because of how soggy the vegetables were. The flavor was there with the cilantro but that was the only good thing about the tacos. Their house chips were cooked properly but the salsas were bland and needed more flavor or at least salt. The curbside pickup was friendly fast and courteous. The Chile relleno was boring. The meat was tender but it was drowned in cheddar cheese not to mention all the grease the cheddar releases. The red sauce felt like it was out of a can and I would not go back here to eat again. I'm very disappointed I had high hopes because aesthetically it is a beautiful restaurant and you'd expect more from the kitchen. Only open for one week our group of 10 was very pleased so giving a soft 5 stars. We were easily able to set a reservation on Yelp and the hostesses had us sat with in a few minutes of our reservation time, even though they were slammed. Food was good and had moments of great. Meals came out in 3 different servings with last dish having quite a delay. Certainly a Mi Cocina vibe and similar menu and taste. Super impressed based on only being open one week and look forward to a strong 5 star review when they have been open longer. read more

I'll have to say we were all pretty disappointed. We will try it again as we want to like this place. There were 8 of us and none of our meals were hot. They were barely warm. The bartender poured two of the drinks on the tray on my husband. No apology. The chip, guacamole and salsas were very good. Needs to improve to be anything other than mediocre. Second time coming to Javis and was disappointed. Service was great but food was mediocre. Flour tortillas were not cooked all the way. Fajitas were chewy and chile relleno did not have queso fresco like menu said. Ordered a drink and it was not made right. Will give it one more try and make my final verdict then. We brought a large family group on Sunday evening without a reservation, and they were very accommodating. Ate outside on patio which is always nice, but especially so if have two little kids who can be entertained watching/feeding koi and turtles! Our waiter, Kaleb was amazing! Every drink/dish served came with the person's name, small touch but really something when serving large group! Food was wonderful as always, has never disappointed. I've been to Javi's several times, and they never disappoint. I ordered takeout, and they definitely hooked me up with extra chips and salsa. My favorite item on the menu is the Sunrise enchiladas, and their drinks are super yummy. One of the, if not the best, Latino cuisine in Tyler. read more

Came on a Friday night, party of 5. We were waiting on two more people so we got a drink at the bar. Unfortunately, somehow with 3 bartenders and a manager it took 10 minutes to get acknowledged. There was only one other gentleman at the bar. So they were only taking care of the well. So started off not so great. But I am from the Houston area and just in town for the weekend so I thought it must get better. However we got seated outside which was fine because we didn't say that we wouldn't want to be out there. Our server was getting us 5 waters but I guess he got lost along the way because it took 10 minutes for us to decide we would like to dine inside rather then outside. We go inside and the server was great. She is the reason for the one star or else I would give 0. The food was bad. Dry chicken. Everyone got their food at different times. The chip bowls are waaaaay too small and the chips are bland. The dessert was burnt. Won't be back, however I did love the second server we had. read more

We arrived to a very busy restaurant and was seated in a much shorter time than told, the service was absolutely wonderful and everything that we ordered was great!! We definitely will be returning to Javi's in the future. My wife is gluten free and they had many options for her to eat. We have eaten here several times and we've found the common denominator for a "less than 5 star review"! The chips.....they are always cold and sort of cardboard like! I feel like a brisker would go a long way in keeping your chips warm and fresh tasting. Our dinner was very tasty last night! We ordered a queso app, margarita, old fashion and the rib fajitas. Everything was delicious. If you could serve a slightly larger bowl of chips, that would also make a difference; we ran out before our queso was finished and by the time we received our next bowl, the queso was cold (this also happened on our last visit)! We will be more proactive in future and order a fresh bowl when we order the app....it's just constructive feedback!! We had a delightful server and absolutely zero complaints about your service. I just placed a Togo order and this is the 4th time I've had to deal with rude staff. I asked if I could get some corn tortillas when I arrived and all the woman told me was "no." I started to laugh thinking she was kidding but then she said "it's going to be 30 minutes and $1.50." I didn't mind paying extra that's why I asked if I could add them to my order before paying, but the unprofessional way this hostess/waitress spoke to me was very uncalled for. I also highly doubt it takes 30 minutes to make tortillas. She clearly just wanted me to leave. This is the second time I've complained about rude staff at Javi's.. wish the people were nicer since we love the food and atmosphere but they continue to have employees with bad attitudes. read more
