Then, an incomplete party of 6 was sat at one of the large booths. We expressed concern to the hostess and were told we were "next on the list". Another hosted arrived and explained that we were not sat in the order we arrived because of the infant and the high top. We expressed we would like to sit at the high top and then we were provided a high chair that fit at the high top table.. First come first serve was not what was practiced here today, and unfortunately I was with an infant so we felt it a little harder than we would have otherwise. Overall it was very disappointing. We typically love the food and the service. We just hope that this doesn't become a trend - would hate to see this place go downhill..

Java Surf makes my favourite espresso drinks in Virginia Beach and Norfolk! Their coffee beans all come from Williamsburg Coffee (which, if you aren't familiar, are personally selected by one of the most knowledgable coffee connoisseurs in the world) and their drinks have been crafted and fine-tuned by Dwayne, owner and operator, with great care and attention to detail. I've had a lot of lattes and cappuccinos, in Richmond, Norfolk, VB, and NY, and I worked as a barista for almost two years, and I can easily say that Java Surf is among the best in terms of taste, buzz, and service. Java Surf is in the process of opening three new locations, in beautifully redesigned restaurants with really aesthetically pleasing walls (you'll understand when you see them). And, to top it all off, their food (sandwiches, panini presses, salads, and the like) also rises to the high standards set by their drinks and coffee. I love their espresso and their food. Their new location is better suited for them as they grow into their already wonderful reputation! I chatted with the owner and was shocked to find out that they haven't even had their grand opening yet! I have to give them credit as they smooth out those last wrinkles with a larger establishment! They have the best latte in town! Homemade recipes and down to earth people. Nothing fake here, no one shoving corporate lingo down your throat, just a great local business with an old fashioned mind set of taking care of people with a smile! My recent visit to this establishment was a mixed experience. While the coffee was enjoyable, the 20 minute wait for a panini was frustrating. This was exacerbated by the distracting banter of the kitchen staff. Additionally, the limited indoor seating made it inconvenient to dine during or after rain. However, the panini itself was delicious, redeeming some points for the overall experience. If you have time to spare and crave good coffee and tasty paninis, this place might be worth considering.
