The most variety of food I have ever seen for a cafe, which I love! Drinks are expensive though. I noticed some negative comments about their service but honestly I think they're just trying their best to handle busy mornings. read more

Java On Ocean Coffee House is cool spot to relax and unwind with a cup of coffee and a quick bite. Menu is comprised of the typical coffee house items: assorted coffee drinks, fresh pastries, and so on. Also offered are made to order bites and drinks: smoothies, sandwiches, etc. Their smoothies are refreshing and taste very fresh. I highly recommend them! They do advertise a Daily Soup, which is always awesome in the typical SF weather; however, I've had instances where they don't offer it and it has been disappointing. The inside is filled with a lot of seating and tables and they're spacious enough to get work done comfortably and it's great for meeting up with friends too! Also, note the birds in the back. They're adorable and such a unique and colorful touch that surely brings more life to this already lively spot. This coffee house is right in front of Ocean Avenue, so there tends to be a lot of traffic passing by, which can be loud and distracting. So keep this in mind if you're looking for a very quiet spot to get some work done. But overall, an awesome place that I'd like to frequent. read more

Neither good nor bad. Though staff was not very welcoming nor helpful for a first timer. Simply convenient.

They served the hot beverages with real mugs. Mine had a line crack near the rim of the top of the ceramic mug. The matcha latte was made just right with 40% sweet. read more

Such a cute cafe! Some of the best chai in the city. Come around 10 for a shorter line.

Wonderful locally-owned corner café with a varied menu of sandwiches, bagels & salads, including some tasty vegetarian plates. I've had the portobello sandwich twice--with a light dressing, lettuce, tomato and a dusting of dill--and it hits the spot! Airy seating indoors and several tables along the sidewalks make for comfortable dining. Staff are very friendly and have created an assortment of unique espresso drinks that will intrigue the adventurous coffee enthusiast. "Cafe Borgia" and "Zebra Oat Mocha" are examples that we've enjoyed. read more

This place is really a good coffee environment! The staff Christina and Hasam are some of the friendliest peeps at this coffee shop! I'm a student at SFSU and this would always be my go-to if want to study or get on zoom call, or when I get sick of the library at SFSU. The food here are hella bussin and would serve up some really good coffee like my fav 'Mexican Oatmilk Mocha'. There would be bird cages so I would always be satisfied just seeing birds. Highly recommended for a study place, coffee, or if you trynna get some good food read more

This shop is amazing!! I'm from LA but this is definitely the most beautiful coffee shop I've been to. Plants everywhere and celling high windows. I had matcha which was great and avocado toast on a bagel which also impressed me. I did work for a few hours, there's fast wifi and relaxing study music. Wonderful customer service, the two people working were very nice. I recommend Java to everyone :) read more

Moved back into the area and decided to try Java again since it's been years. My husband had ordered a pastrami sandwich and I got a garlic bagel with cream cheese add bacon and a hazelnut mocha cold brew coffee. It came it to $32. Pretty steep in price. I was hoping the food would be really good for that price and big line of people waiting to order. Husband said the sandwich had a sweet after taste and that he wasn't a fan. Gave the sandwich a 4/10. My bagel was really doughy and soggy :( but I did enjoy the crispy bacon and they definitely did not skimp out on the bacon. My coffee was pretty bitter and all the syrup was stuck to the bottom of the cup but once I went up to the counter to ask for a bigger cup to transfer my coffee over too, it wasn't so bad once I had shaken it up. I don't think I'll come back for the food but definitely want to try other drinks on their menu. read more

I don't wanna lose this gem of a place. They currently have some outdoor tables/seating. In the before-times, JoO has super comfy & varied seating from wooden chairs, to sofas, to wingback plush chairs. The chirping of the birds with the whoosh noises of the espresso machine are the perfect white noise for studying , getting work done. The baristas are friendly. The coffee and espresso are excellent. I recommend the breakfast burrito and the chicken hummus wrap. Please support Java. Choose it over Starfucks. read more

Another one star due to the owner's abrasive response to my comment below. "A service you don't even charge for"?!?! Seriously dude? It's 2025, cafes have Wifi. This isn't an "Internet cafe". Do you live in 1995? Spent many years living in South Africa, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, Turkey and Mexico -- cafes there all have better WiFi than your San Francisco spot. I'm a native to the neighborhood, don't shit on me. Show respect to locals, take feedback and constructive criticism with poise, and yes - when I pay $15 for a sandwich I expect the WiFi to freaking work. read more

I came in on the evening of the 28th, perhaps an hour or so before closing. To sum up the experience: my apple cider was disgusting and the service was awful. When I walked in, I greeted the barista who stared at me but did not respond. I know he heard me because he was looking right at me, and I was quite loud. To be honest, poor dude looked like he absolutely hated his life. Anyway, I was just waiting for my partner to pick me up for dinner so I stopped by the cafe to wait with a small drink. I noticed that he used Mott's apple juice to make the cider, and the resulting drink was way too sugary and artificial tasting. It was so gross that I just threw it out after attempting more sips than necessary. Concentrate *bleh* When the sever handed me the drink, I said thank you: once again, no response or acknowledgment from him. The cafe was full of other people working on their laptops, meeting with friends - I wasn't the only person in there before closing, and my order was simple (apparently, "spiced" and microwaved Mott's apple juice). I live in the neighborhood, and no one I know really goes here - but now I'm going to actively suggest skipping the place. read more

There are a few Java in the city. This one happens to locate on Ocean Avenue when the other two are closer to the ocean. I happen to like this location the most for study and work. This shop is spacious with plenty of seats available without being too scattered. Plenty of outlets available to give the juice for electronic devices. There are food and drink selection for everyone, from breakfast, lunch and snacks. They even have the hard-to-find Kimino drink in Yuzu flavor!! Furthermore, they use real egg but not the liquid "egg" in breakfast sandwich! This shows me how much the owner cares about what they put to the table. Tables and the counter for condiments are clean frequently. From the owner, to his daughter and the rest of the team are very nice. I would certainly recommend this cafe to all. read more

The staff is rude. I ordered a iced hazelnut latte with an egg & cheese bagel. There was a girl and man working there. They kept calling out the latte and I figured it was mine when I asked the girl if this was my hazelnut latte she said rudely " no one even ordered hazelnut" so I kept waiting. But finally I just got up and got it because I knew it was mine and yes it was a hazelnut latte. The man was calling out my egg and cheese bagel and when I go to get it he snatched the plate and said " this isn't yours" very rudely it made me uncomfortable. I kept waiting and watching him call out my exact order. I finally just went and told him I ordered that and he handed it to me with attitude. I won't be coming back here anymore, which sucks bc I did like this place but they made me feel super uncomfortable):. My husband and I checked this cafe out for the first time today while out exploring different neighborhoods. The service was friendly and the drinks we got were great! I had a lavender oatmilk latte and my husband had a hot chocolate; definitely one of the best hot chocolates I've tried in a while and the latte was seriously delicious! We also had some tasty baked goods. The overall vibe was a cozy neighborhood cafe ( with a good amount of space). Reminded us of old school San Francisco. read more

The food and environment is lovely in here, and the coffee is pretty good!! The only reason for not getting 5 stars is that everytime I come in, the owner (im assuming) is very cold and kind of rude. I'm sure it's stressful to run a cafe, especially in San Francisco, so I don't blame him, but yeah the customer service is the only thing that isn't great at this place. read more

Honestly, I came here only for convenience, I would drive here almost every morning for coffee. But after my last visit I will never again will come here!!The owner Hasam or whatever his name is was utterly disrespectful and rude. He went as far as scaring my puppy, a complete serious douche! After spending $25 on 3 coffees?! No pastries or food. I'm so over this lame spot. This place is over priced only to get the worst inconsistent coffee and horrible service. I regret all the times I came here get bad coffee and still tipped every time. Ugh! But never again! If you plan to come here be prepared to receive coffee that is too sweet, too strong or just not good! The bathroom here is also disgusting, it always smells like pee and it doesn't seem like they even keep up with the bathroom, gross! But thanks to this past horrible experience here at the Java on Ocean it directed me to find a way better coffee shop with delicious consistent coffee and great service - visit Blue House Café !! Not here advertising but pointing out a way better coffee shop than this place. read more

I'm not a coffee drinker. I went here to meet up with friends. The place is spacious, and is good to visit on an afternoon. I ordered a raspberry smoothie, and it came pretty quick, barely a wait. I wish they had more tables that catered for groups of four. We had to move two tables together. I also ordered a frosted poppy-seed cake. It was rich and delicious. We were looking for a cool place to hang and get energized. They have everything to satisfy hunger, sleepiness and boredom. The food was a cut above coffee shop fare. Love this place! The staff, drinks and food are amazingly delicious and priced just right. The open space makes the coffee shop inviting.

Go ahead and splurge. I came into this coffee shop to explore their little menu. I tend to get iced coffee drinks more often than hot drinks but their menu lets you have a bunch of options. I got an iced peppermint mocha and it was minty chocolatey and yummy all the way . But when I bit into my pound cake, it wasn't fresh the way it looked compared to the way it tasted even though I didn't have breakfast that morning. The little coffee shop is on a typical corner like most shops. The part that stood out to me about this place was the abundance of tables and chairs and even some lounge seats. Most people go to Starbucks or Pete's coffee and always forget that other coffee shops could be better. Im giving this place a 3/5 overall because the price is about $5 for a 20 oz drink and the price of a pound cake is probably $4. However, the service was decent and they acknowledged so it's always nice to leave a tip since I also worked as a cafe staff. The best thing that stood out was the small bird cage with the cute little bird in it. read more

the atmosphere is nice and so is the staff. i understand charging extra for plant based milks, most places to do. but why do they charge extra 75 cents to make the drink i ordered iced (matcha latte). i never experienced that before, and for that reasoning i probably won't come back. read more

Loved the raspberry white chocolate mocha coffee. It was so unique and tasted amazing. I thought the coffee here was a little pricey, but worth it.
