Menu is comprised of the typical coffee house items: assorted coffee drinks, fresh pastries, and so on. Also offered are made to order bites and drinks: smoothies, sandwiches, etc. Their smoothies are refreshing and taste very fresh. I highly recommend them! They do advertise a Daily Soup, which is always awesome in the typical SF weather; however, I've had instances where they don't offer it and it has been disappointing. The inside is filled with a lot of seating and tables and they're spacious enough to get work done comfortably and it's great for meeting up with friends too! Also, note the birds in the back. They're adorable and such a unique and colorful touch that surely brings more life to this already lively spot. This coffee house is right in front of Ocean Avenue, so there tends to be a lot of traffic passing by, which can be loud and distracting. So keep this in mind if you're looking for a very quiet spot to get some work done. But overall, an awesome place that I'd like to frequent. read more

This place is really a good coffee environment! The staff Christina and Hasam are some of the friendliest peeps at this coffee shop! I'm a student at SFSU and this would always be my go-to if want to study or get on zoom call, or when I get sick of the library at SFSU. Moved back into the area and decided to try Java again since it's been years. My husband had ordered a pastrami sandwich and I got a garlic bagel with cream cheese add bacon and a hazelnut mocha cold brew coffee. It came it to $32. Pretty steep in price. I was hoping the food would be really good for that price and big line of people waiting to order. Husband said the sandwich had a sweet after taste and that he wasn't a fan. Gave the sandwich a 4/10. My bagel was really doughy and soggy :( but I did enjoy the crispy bacon and they definitely did not skimp out on the bacon. My coffee was pretty bitter and all the syrup was stuck to the bottom of the cup but once I went up to the counter to ask for a bigger cup to transfer my coffee over too, it wasn't so bad once I had shaken it up. I came in on the evening of the 28th, perhaps an hour or so before closing. To sum up the experience: my apple cider was disgusting and the service was awful. When I walked in, I greeted the barista who stared at me but did not respond. I know he heard me because he was looking right at me, and I was quite loud. To be honest, poor dude looked like he absolutely hated his life. Anyway, I was just waiting for my partner to pick me up for dinner so I stopped by the cafe to wait with a small drink. I noticed that he used Mott's apple juice to make the cider, and the resulting drink was way too sugary and artificial tasting. It was so gross that I just threw it out after attempting more sips than necessary. Concentrate *bleh* When the sever handed me the drink, I said thank you: once again, no response or acknowledgment from him. The cafe was full of other people working on their laptops, meeting with friends - I wasn't the only person in there before closing, and my order was simple (apparently, "spiced" and microwaved Mott's apple juice). I live in the neighborhood, and no one I know really goes here - but now I'm going to actively suggest skipping the place. read more

I'm not a coffee drinker. I went here to meet up with friends. The place is spacious, and is good to visit on an afternoon. I ordered a raspberry smoothie, and it came pretty quick, barely a wait. I wish they had more tables that catered for groups of four. We had to move two tables together. I also ordered a frosted poppy-seed cake. It was rich and delicious. There are a few Java in the city. This one happens to locate on Ocean Avenue when the other two are closer to the ocean. I happen to like this location the most for study and work. This shop is spacious with plenty of seats available without being too scattered. Plenty of outlets available to give the juice for electronic devices. There are food and drink selection for everyone, from breakfast, lunch and snacks. They even have the hard-to-find Kimino drink in Yuzu flavor!! Furthermore, they use real egg but not the liquid "egg" in breakfast sandwich! This shows me how much the owner cares about what they put to the table. Tables and the counter for condiments are clean frequently. From the owner, to his daughter and the rest of the team are very nice. I would certainly recommend this cafe to all. read more

Go ahead and splurge. I came into this coffee shop to explore their little menu. I tend to get iced coffee drinks more often than hot drinks but their menu lets you have a bunch of options. I got an iced peppermint mocha and it was minty chocolatey and yummy all the way . But when I bit into my pound cake, it wasn't fresh the way it looked compared to the way it tasted even though I didn't have breakfast that morning. The little coffee shop is on a typical corner like most shops. The part that stood out to me about this place was the abundance of tables and chairs and even some lounge seats. Most people go to Starbucks or Pete's coffee and always forget that other coffee shops could be better. Im giving this place a 3/5 overall because the price is about $5 for a 20 oz drink and the price of a pound cake is probably $4. However, the service was decent and they acknowledged so it's always nice to leave a tip since I also worked as a cafe staff. The food here is fine, I've been coming for years and most everything I order is pretty good! The service is ok based on who is serving you. The owner seems to be nicer than the other employees. What really made me finally review this place is the coffee. I've been ordering their coffee for over 3 years since I moved to the Ingleside and it's been great, and over the past few months something has changed. I asked if there was something different and they said no while giving me a weird look. It's not terrible, it's just not the same as it used to be which sucks because this was my weekly go-to. Probably not going back anymore, maybe for a bagel but for coffee I'll go to lucky ocean down the street or if I'm up for the walk, Philz is a few blocks down. Ambiance 4/5 Parking is actually quite nice around here. There is plenty of street parking that is either metered, or with a 2 hour limit. However, also plenty of residential parking behind ocean. The actual shop is very homey, with plenty of mismatched seating options, couches, tables benches, etc. Only caveat to the plentiful seating is that they are majority wooden chairs/benches which aren't the most comfortable if you plan to park for an extended period of time. The chalk board written menu, random potted plants, and rugs give the shop a very self decorated feel. In regards to a study location, I would say this is a pretty great. The store peeps don't mind if you sit for a long period of time, plenty of seating/tables, free wifi, not too loud of a setting (they do have music playing in the background), and outlets lining the periphery of the store, coffee and food... what more can you ask? Service 2.5/5 This is where it really drags down the review. It may have just been the day I was there, but the older male who was serving us was just like speaking to a wall. He was pretty rude to these kids in front of me trying to order hot chocolates and a cookie, and he started my order with a "what do you want?". Wasn't very helpful when I asked questions either. When my drink was ready, he called my order out once, and when i looked up, he waved at me impatiently as if I had left him waiting for 10 minutes or something. Food/Drinks 3/5 Caramel macchiato ($4.25) for a double shot, came in a 12 oz glass cup that was hot to touch. Taste wise it was pretty good though. There are also a large array of baked goods at the store front from "local bakeries". Loafs looked pretty good. Will probably be back to study, however, more likely won't be buying anything until the rude register guy is there. The ambiance was chill and relax and it has a chill cafe with abundant seating. It felt like being in a cafe in Hawaii. The drinks were great and the pastries had good flavor, but didn't taste very fresh. The speciality late that my wife got was well curated and had flavors that went really well with each other. The only thing that would make this place perfect is better quality coffee although the coffee surpasses any coffee you would get from a chain coffee shop. read more

Whatever middle aged gentleman, and I use that word loosely, was working at 1pm on 11/16/2024 was one of the rudest customer service experiences I have ever encountered. I am not a person that normally takes time to write bad reviews and I am normally easily impressed because I also work in customer service. I stood at the cash register for 5 minutes AFTER me and the gentleman made eye contact as he saw me come in (I'm assuming it was to finish his conversation with his colleague) after 5 minutes he finally chose to grace me with a stare down contest for what seemed forever. He finally approached me to take my order and as I looked over at the menu to remember the names of my items, he instead takes the orders of two younger children that came out of nowhere. They were children so I was not one to make a big deal, I can be patient enough it just seemed rude to do! Once he finally got back to me I began to tell him my order and before I could finish saying what size I wanted he cut me off and very rudely informed me they only had 20oz (which again was fine, but his tone and mannerisms were a bit shocking) I then told him that was fine. I told him which two smoothies I wanted and again in a rude tone told me to choose a milk I began to ask what options fearing another rude comeback and he rudely told me I needed to make a choice for the smoothies so to hurry up and end our interaction I told him soy. He looked at me and rudely repeated he needed to know what milk for my smoothie so I then had to repeat myself and told him that I already told him I selected soy. He then smiled and shook his head and walked away to make my smoothie I'm assuming. The interaction was so shockingly rude I told him to cancel the whole thing. I WILL NEVER COME BACK TO THIS PLACE AGAIN. I don't know if it's because I didn't come in my Sunday best, the color of my skin, or what the reason for such rudeness was but I will be sure to let everyone I know to never come to this place. DO BETTER WITH THE STAFFING, DON'T WORK IN CUSTOMER SERVICE IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO SPEAK AND DEAL WITH PAYING CUSTOMERS. read more
