I measure a well made breakfast primarily by the HOME FRIES. That's just me. Java Day makes excellent ones. They accompanied my delicious spinach, mushroom, and feta omelette. Crispy, well seasoned, with onions and peppers, and a good portion too. The omelette was filled generously with no skimping on the feta. Staff was attentive immediately greeting me as I entered and offered a newspaper while I waited. Nice touches mean a lot to me. Came here to meet up with some friends and catch up, but all tables were occupied when we got there. We waited a few minutes to get a table and the waiter quickly came to clean our table. Totally a fan of what Java Day Cafe is all about BUT... The 2 times I've decided to dine here, I was disappointed in one way or another. Mind you, I don't have high standards when it comes to a quick bite. I just want my food. The first time I came, I opted for the Hashbrown Wrap ($9.50). I was informed that it would take about 10 minutes to prepare, which is totally fine considering the idea that Hashbrowns are meant to fall apart. It took nearly 30 minutes, 20 minutes before I went up to check on it. I understand that sometimes tickets get lost in the kitchen and people make mistakes, but I wasn't even compensated with an apology. The second time, I decided to come on a day & time when it wasn't busy. I opted for the Healthy Wrap ($5.00) figuring it wouldn't take as long as the Hashbrown Wrap, and it didn't, but when it came out, I thought I might've ordered from the kids meal. It was the size of my palm, with maybe 3 slices of turkey and maybe 2 eggs worth of egg whites (not even). I think they took "healthy" the wrong way. I've gotta say though, the flavors are there, some of the other dishes looked very enticing, and I guess I enjoyed my food, but they didn't score any real points for me. read more

Yummm breakfast. I wish I lived closer to this place because their breakfast is oh so good. The staff is really sweet and the deor is simple but cute. I love how they have such a good variety of breakfast foods. Its relatively inexpensive and best of all, it's delicious. Nice spot, found parking on the street on a Saturday morning. The place is on the smaller side but has a good amount of seating for a cafe which is great. I ordered the California omelet but I think they accidentally gave me the Cajun omelet cause it was spicy (which also tasted amazing) but unfortunately I think it messed my stomach up lol. That's not their fault though, I might've said Cajun by accident... good service, good ambience, convenient location. When you walk in they give you menus and you choose a seat, then when you're ready to order you walk to up to the register. Hot day and AC wasn't really cool enough. Chai latte was way too sweet but the mocha latte was perfect. Had the B4 platter and they were able to sub the ham for more bacon. Portion wise it was definitely more than I could eat alone. Home fries were mushy. Pancakes were basically bisquick. The Italian hero was okay, nothing special and a little skimpy on the meat. Staff was friendly and efficient. They should keep the door to the basement closed as the area around it has a dank and musty smell. Tables were a little worn and sticky, ambience was okay. This is my 2nd time coming here. I love this place because it's close by my house, casual, the food is good and the staff are super nice! I decided to take my 16 year old son to brunch. It didn't take long to get a table (we waited about 5 minutes maybe), but you may have to be a little aggressive to get a seat (this is NY after all). We sat by the window but it wasn't bad. My son had the Hungry man sandwich which he finished with vigor. I asked him how he liked the sandwich and he said "it was pretty good". I had the California omelet platter which was amazing especially because they were kind enough to substitute turkey bacon. I had a side of one of French toast. I didn't need it, the toast and home fries were more than filling. The coffee was nice and hot. Love this local place. We only gave 4 stars because of the aggressive patron who took our table but aside from that it was a great experience. Food more than made up for it. read more

For the price and the amount of food you get it's very worth it. B4 meal is very good value for people who can eat a lot. Would cost you around $15 some where else. We got the hash brown wrap and breakfast quesadilla they were both alright, pretty decent but nothing special. A very cozy Sunday brunch place, music was on point but the only thing I didn't like was using plastic knives and forks. I know it's not your traditional sit down setting but better quality plastic knives would be better. Wouldn't be really excited to come back but would recommend. There are a lot of coffee shops around the area but this place serves all- American breakfast. I got the B4 platter which was only 6 bucks. It had ham, sausage, bacon, potatoes, and bread. Java Day Cafe is the cutest. I can't believe I haven't been here sooner. Breakfast and brunch places that are good yet don't cost an arm and a leg are a rarity in the Fresh Meadows/Flushing area. And an added plus is that the staff is super friendly! What we loved: the menu! Breakfast all day, what's not to love? We had the omelette platter that came with fries and toast, eggs on a bagel (the softest bagel I've had in a long time), a nutella cookie, and shared a waffle (comes with two huge waffles) with strawberry, nutella, walnuts and ice cream. The coffee was also delicious. We had an iced coffee and an iced caramel macchiato. The damage? Roughly $26. Not bad for the amount of food we got. We were so stuffed that we had to take the waffles home. The downside: Metered parking and they aren't open too late. The latest they are open is 8 pm. Will we go back though? Absolutely. This gem is one of my FAVORITE places to go for breakfast/brunch in Queens...or anywhere, for that matter! The food is always fresh, delicious, and filling. I love the jumbo slices of French toast, which I usually can't help but order in addition to the B4 platter (an enormous amount of food in itself). I also really enjoy the green tea lattes. The staff is super friendly and attentive. One time we forgot to order my eggs sunnyside up, so they gave me the default scrambled. It wasn't their mistake, but they quickly fixed it anyway at no charge. The cafe itself is small, but has really cute decor. If you don't feel like venturing outside (especially in this cold weather!), Java Day does deliver. One of the only places on northern that gets the name barista, granted, it is by default but it is the only place I can find where they actually grind the coffee beans themselves. I wish they would tamper the coffee puck so it brews for the right amount of time though. I've been trying to find a spot in near my place [that's at walk distance] that just doesn't have the usual loud Asian crowd, decent food/drinks, and has a comfortable enough ambiance and setting that can allow me to sit for hours. Everything about this place is good on paper: Decent coffee in an Asian dominated area (fyi: Flushing Asian crowd does not care about coffee quality), pretty decent bakery items (their bagels are good enough), and a nice looking interior with lots of natural sunlight. Finding an adequate breakfast joint that was open early Sunday morning posed a bit of a challenge. Based on the positive reviews and that Java Day Cafe and Bagel House was open off we went and boy am I glad that we did. This my friend is not your typical Bagel shop. The vibe: trendy, cozy and welcoming. Food: made to order, fresh tasting. Service: friendly and efficient. Ordered at the counter and food was served to us. My coffee was smooth bold with a nice caffeine kick that woke me up yet not jittery. An extensive breakfast menu made it difficult to choose, but once we did we were sold on this place and know we made the correct choice. We selected the Hashbrown wrap I expected an omelet served wrapped in a tortilla but no; much to my surprise, the wrap was crispy decadent homefries embracing, sorry my mouth is watering just writing about, the most delicious egg concoction ever! Please be aware, because the homefries are made to order it took 20 minutes to prepare; no worries it was well worth the wait. Lunch was also available and also cafe drink menu. As many have said, it's hard to find an American style brunch place in an area where it's predominantly korean/asian restaurants and cafes. This place is still run by Koreans though. Their food is pretty cheap I would say. This cafe doesn't provide much table service in that you order at the counter and bring it to your table yourself, which is fine to me. I got the hash brown omelette which was great! And yes - it does take 20 minutes AT LEAST to get this dish. I arrived almost half an hour earlier than my friend, put my order in and my dish STILL didn't come out after he arrived. That's quite a long time. I didn't mind that that day because I was waiting for him anyway and didn't want the food to come out before he arrived, but otherwise, this dish takes a little too long to wait for. I must say it was really good tho. The hashbrown on the outside was so nice and crispy! Loved the omelette filling side with the veggies and sausage. Their coffee was okay - wasn't crazy about it. I know previous reviews have mentioned that this place would be super hot on a summer day since they don't have A/C. They must've changed that recently, because now they do and the cafe was actually pretty cold when we were dining in lol. I'm glad their made that improvement to make everyone more comfortable when dining in. This would be a great place to also sit with your computer and catch up on some work - they've got outlets and believe they have free wifi too. I really love this place we have come here the past two weekends to have breakfast and it just gets better every time. They are so friendly and they remember you which I love. The food and coffee is great the French toast is so crunchy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside it's my favorite.
