I take the LIRR into manhattan about 4-5 times a week during the AM peak hours. Java Day Cafe is only two blocks from the station and is one of the only cafes opened at 6am. So it's great knowing that I can run in and grab a quick breakfast. The menu is easy to read and the sandwiches include a list of ingredients, which makes substituting and eliminating very easy. The cafe itself is always clean and the food portions are worth every penny. If you're in a rush during the weekend, I'd suggest calling in your order that way your food will be ready upon arrival. Delivery has never taken more than 30 minutes, which is wonderful because we all hate waiting an hour by the door for the delivery man. What a gem! My fiancée and I went here after she decided to yelp for a breakfast spot in the area. We live not too far from Flushing and this place popped up. They have a lot of great menu options and I wanted to try all of them. I had this amazing hash brown wrap, yes! You heard it right. The wrap is surrounded by a delicious layer of hash browns that serves as the wrap instead of a traditional flour tortilla. It was amazing. It was a bacon egg and cheese wrap essentially but it was amazing. And the price was incredible. My fiancée had the French toast sandwich and I would gladly eat that any day. We also had the green tea latte and the green tea frappe. My favorite was the frappe! I will definitely be returning with more friends this time! What a great find in Flushing! read more

I originally was going to go to Dennys then i saw their terrible reviews and changed my mind.... I went onto google and searched for a nice brunch spot and i saw this one and with no hesitation i said im going here.... Best decision of the week!!! The breakfast here is definitely very good. Good portions and tasty. I got the hash brown wrap platter. It's an omelet wrapped in hash brown! I love hash brown! Some cheese, sausage and onion. Yum! They have a decent amount of variety in food and drinks. I had the Citron tea iced which was sweet enough for flavor and allowed it to still have flavor after the ice melted. My wife got the vegetarian omelet which was also good albeit a bit too healthy for my tastes. ;) The service is polite and patient. They bring food to your table if you're seated and the environment is comfortable enough. It actually feels pretty chill to sit here. There aren't much cons to this place but a few small things that bothered but not much. It's pretty loud here in the morning so of you like quiet breakfast places, best to look elsewhere. Food is delicious and I recommend it but while some foods are made fast, the hash brown wrap platter took at least 10-15 minutes to make. So expect a wait if you order certain things. The beautiful thing about NYC is all the hidden gems that are cafes and lounges. Java Day is located in Flushing and could be easily passed if you aren't exactly looking for it. However, it's a perfect little cafe that ranges from breakfast to dinner items. It could be 6:54 PM on a Tuesday and I'll choose breakfast over dinner anytime. Luckily it was just after 12 PM so me choosing a breakfast item would be natural in this scenario. I got the California omelette platter which consisted of an omelette of course, hash browns (ran out of home fries :/), turkey link and two pieces of bacon. All of this glory for just $9!! read more

Excellent! The location is great, although they do not have their own parking space, you can find parking in the neighborhood nearby. I have come here 3-5 times already. I usually come during Saturday brunch time when it is very busy, but I manage to find a seat if I wait just a few minutes. When you walk in, you can grab a table first or grab their paper menu first. It's the type of place you order by yourself from the cash register and they bring the food to your table. They've recently changed their seating arrangement, so that there is more space. There are people who just grab and go, and people who sit and dine. On to the food~! Their lunch munch menu is very good, their bagels are good, the sweets section is also very good. I haven't tried their other menus so I'm not sure of the others, but I'm sure they are yummy. I honestly recommend anything from their lunch munch menu, that is my favorite. I most recently ordered the cajun breakfast sandwich, and the home fries. Such a yummy combo with melted cheese! The home fries are also nothing like french fries you see in other diners, they have their own way of cutting it and flavoring it. Overall, I highly recommend this place. read more

My fiancée and I rarely go out for brunch. So it was kinda nice that we got out of the house on a Saturday afternoon. Went/passed by Ihop by Northern blvd. We turned around because the line was crazy. It'll probably take us 45mins to an hour to get seated. We were too HANGRY to wait for that. So we yelp-ed for another cafe/diner nearby and we found this place. There were other cafes nearby but I go by the review and ratings.(4-stars and above and at least 100 reviews) this was clearly the winner! We went to get our seats first and looked at the menu. I was kinda contemplating between the Cajun omelet or the Western. But Cajun won my heart because of bacon. Ha! My fiancée got the Veggie hash brown wrap and we shared the blueberry pancakes. The cajun omelet was moist, veggies are not overcooked and you can taste and see the bacon slices-not just bits and pieces. It was seasoned to perfection. With a side of home fries that was as big of a portion as the omelet. And 2 slices of wheat bread. My heart and tummy was sooo full! As for the hashbrown wrap, it was really good too! My fiancée liked it and was actually planning to go back here next weekend. But for me, the hash brown was a bit undercooked. If they just cooked it a bit more and it's slightly crispy, then it would be perfect. But it was still good. The bueberry pancakes were not too thick but moist and fluffy. They were generous with the fresh blueberries in the pancakes and the home made blueberry puree/jam, was really good, too. The coffee-both of us can't really function well without caffeine. So a good cup of coffee or two will do. I got a large iced coffee and he got a small coffee. They didn't have any non-dairy creamers available, but it was still okay. I'll bring a coffeemate next time. We got in and out of this place in under an hour. Just right before our parking meter expires. Yey! We'll be back with family and friends very soon! read more

employees are super nice, but if you're looking for a bagel, this is not the place. nothing special about them, they kind of taste like those prepackaged bagels you'd buy in the refrigerated section of a grocery store. i got a bagel with cream cheese, and an egg and cheese on a bagel. i specifically asked for both of them to be EXTRA toasted, because i have seen reviews saying that they don't really toast the bagels if you ask for it toasted. well, i guess it doesn't matter how you ask - not toasted, regular toasted, extra toasted - they all come out the same way. both of them were soft floppy bagels and were actually still cold, one of them slightly warm but only just from touching the eggs. the only color to them was from the butter, there was no sign of a toasty golden color, just a slight brown around parts of the edges that makes me think they just placed it on the stove for 5 seconds while cooking the eggs. i wouldn't be surprised if they didn't even have a toaster. even if they came out perfect, they're still just mediocre bagels. it seems like a cute breakfast spot and im sure other things on the menu are good, but if you're looking for anything that involves a bagel, keep looking. read more

Nice, comfy cafe on Northern Boulevard that's great for breakfast and brunch. The workers are very hospitable, the owner Diana really makes an effort to remember her customers in order to serve them more efficiently and she's super friendly. The cafe is a little small, four or five tables across but I haven't had any trouble finding seats. Food is made to order and if you're dining in then they serve if to you which is really nice. Java Day offers a great variety of breakfast foods that'll satisfy any stomach. From bagel sandwiches to large platters to omelette it'll be very difficult for you to not find what you're looking for. I normally order their bacon egg and cheese on a garlic bagel and home fries and oh man are they good. I sometimes come here to do some studying/ reading as well, they have free wifi here and I just love the smell of their cooking, quite a pleasant experience indeed. They ran out of whole wheat toast, so they let me substitute a garlic bagel instead, no extra charge. It is the all American breakfast to start your day off right. Couple next to us had French toast that looked pretty drool worthy. Can't wait to try something else on the menu. Their coffee is pretty damn good. Personally, I am a tea addict but my caramel maachiatto was delish. My hubby is a coffee addict and he said the regular hot coffee was really good. It's quite a small space but they have 7 tables (3 that can sit 4 people comfortably, 4 that can sit 2 people). The music: Adult contemporary or old school R&B The staff: They are very nice here. I go here almost every other week and whenever there is a mishap with anything, they usually do their best to accommodate their customers. The food: They thrive in breakfast and lunch so that's what you should expect. They have a menu but being a small business, it's best to ask about what they have for the day. Their menu is simple (bagels, sandwiches, and breakfast platters) and their food is tasty. I think it's bangin' that they have home fries, French toast and waffles too. They offer a good selection of yummy food items that are perfect to have with a nice, cozy cup of coffee. The price: Personally, I don't think Java Day is overpriced. Today, my fiance and I had breakfast there and it came to $18 (we ordered a Cali omelette, a sausage/egg/cheese croissant sandwich, a large ginger honey tea and a medium caramel macchiato). I returned to Java Day on a Saturday afternoon to redeem my free iced latte (for writing my yelp review). I went with my bf, both hungover from our Friday night adventures. We decided to give the food a try and were both very happy with our meals. The bf ordered the turkey club - lettuce, tomatoes, bacon, and a HUGE mountain of turkey slices served between two slices of toast. I definitely got a punch of flavor from one bite and wanted more. I got the El Uno (similar to the Californian chicken sandwich) - lettuce, tomatoes, avocado and grilled chicken. My favorite part of the sandwich was the crunchy baguette it was served in. The pickles were also crisp, not too sour, and not too salty. The perfect buddy for my sandwich. I think my photos captured the massive size of these two sandwiches. I don't recall how much they were but I think a decent price. I also got a dollar off with my yelp check-in. I'm still not a fan of their coffee. It's too bitter for me and they don't have soy milk but my bf likes the bold flavor of their beans. I'll be back. If not for the sandwiches or waffles, I'd like to wake up early enough on a weekend to take advantage of the breakfast special: $2.99 for a western omelette served with toast and a small coffee/tea (6AM - 9AM). We shared the B4 Platter and the Banana Nut Stuffed French Toast. The B4 Platter was a dream come true! It included eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, potatoes and toast (Never have to decide b/t bacon or sausage again! And for only $7.50!). The potatoes were perfectly cooked and tasted buttery with a seasoning that added a nice kick. We added Nutella to the French Toast and it was delicious! It also came with bananas, small pieces of walnuts and cinnamon (So many noms!). In terms of the cafe itself, the place is small and causal but cute. Came here on a cold saturday just to try this little cafe out. I love the decor. It feels warm but sadly the cold winter beg to differ. Theres limited seating but I was happy that once my fiance and I walked in there was an empty table and seats. We were welcomed and the friendly cashier standing behind the counter handed me the menu. There is no waiter service so you order, pay, then pick up your food when ready. There was a $1 off check in deal! Anyway, I came to this cafe because I am craving for some awesome bagels. Yelp reviewers said their bagels were good so of course I have to try. I was sad that by the time we got there most of the bagels were gone and cream cheese too. They have whole wheat bagel still so I am happy for that. I really wanted strawberry cream cheese but since they were out I picked my next favorite which was plain cream cheese. I wish they have an option for light or reduced fat cream cheese flavors. My fiance got the el uno. By default it comes in a kaiser roll, but you can get it in a wrap or bagel which does cost a little more. Ok now for the taste test. My toasted whole wheat bagel with plain cream cheese was pretty awesome. I had better of course but their bagel really hit the spot. The cream cheese was amazing and they put so much that cream cheese were falling off and oozing out! Bagel was a regular size bagel and it was better tasting than lets say supermarket bought bagels. Though I wish it was toasted a little more. My fiance's el uno on a kaiser roll was a decent size sandwich. He didn't like how it didn't come with fries and/or drinks. He also didn't like how the grilled chicken was a little dry. The sandwich was packed with vegs, avocado, and chicken, but to him he wasn't full from it. I was semi full but to me it was considered an afternoon snack. Overall the atomosphere is nice but not quiet. The sandwich and bagel we got served its purpose for our hungry tummy. It's my unkempt dream/reality idea of a day time place where a small group of friends can just hang out for a bit, have the most random but enlightening conversations, enjoy simple yet completely satisfying food all the while feeling completely at home and fine with time just floating by around them. That's kind of what happened to me this past weekend when I came here for brunch and I have to say, there's a reason why this place is ranked so highly! Things that make this place so wonderful: 1. The simple cafe feel, good music, no one pestering you, helpful and nice staff! 2. Two Words: French Toast. Three more words: The Hungry Man. My absolute favorite choices here but coming close in the food race is also - The B4 platter (bingo!) 3. This place is known for good coffee, give it a try =] I like Caramel Macchiatos personally and if you're into tea - I hear the Honey Ginger Tea is delicious too. This isn't a 5 star restaurant, or an artistic flare lounge, but it is a really feel good cafe that is completely deserving of a visit if you're ever in the area. I think I found a new breakfast/brunch place that is close to home and serves delicious food at a reasonable price! I shared the hash brown wrap and the quesadilla with my parents and it was more than enough food. The quesadilla came out very quickly and had eggs, sausage, cheese and veggies. The has brown wrap is the size of a large burrito and takes a little longer to make than the other dishes. The hash brown was cooked to crispy perfection and had cheese, sausage and veggies inside. I would 100% get the hash brown wrap again! My cousins got the platter which had home fries, toast, 2 eggs, ham, bacon and sausage. It is a generous platter and everything tasted great. I know cause i took a bite out of everything he had. The pancakes were a little denser and drier than I anticipated. I dont think I would order that again though. The breakfast bagel/sandwiches also looked really good and cant really mess up breakfast sandwiches. Next time i'm going to try the green tea latte since that looked wonderful! read more
