Ooh la la! This place can be a hit or miss from what I hear. I visited Jasper's recently on 10-9-17. Before my visit I hadn't been to Jasper's in over 5 years but I'm glad I went ahead to try it out again. When my babe and I walked in we were greeted and only waited a few seconds before being escorted to our seat. Once seated we notice a lot of people around the bar area and many tables with drinks so of course I assumed it's happy hour. Our waiter came within 7 minutes and she was super nice in explaining the happy hour menu and answering any questions we had. We started with appetizers that consisted of fried calamari and their crab and shrimp dip (see pics it's to die for) I absolutely LOVE the crab/shrimp dip. For our main meals we both ordered the spicy seafood explosion with a side of collard greens and that was amazingly tasty and filling. Overall I would definitely recommend this place for dinner and even their happy hour. During their happy hour they offer premium drinks at reasonable discounted pricing along with discounted appetizers...you can't go wrong with that :-) I will definitely be back soon. read more

Apparently I'm old because I had no idea the BET Soundstage was now Jasper's. The vibe is chill, the drinks are decent, depending on the bartender and the food is good. This review is based on 2 visits, so govern yourselves. The first visit, I ordered a steak and it was cooked to perfection. It was slightly over seasoned, but that was remedied by my drink. The crab dip is also pretty good, it comes with bread AND chips. That's a blessing! My second visit was just to waste time so it was drinks only. My first drink was a hurricane. It was a little weak to me, but others thought it was too strong or pretty good. My next drink was the Darth And that was grape, very grape. I'm not sure if there was any alcohol in it. Crab dip was ordered again, as was spinach dip. The service is "ok" we didn't require much and did not need the server around. I'll go back, once they make A REAL happy hour. One dollar off the drinks isn't happy hour. It's actually a sad hour. Do better. read more

I went to Jasper's for the first time about a month or so ago. I have been back since, with plans to visit again. The drinks were strong and the food was pretty good. This establishment is always packed. I had trouble parking the first time around. Be sure to get here early to find a parking spot and a seat at the bar! I didn't get the chance to take a picture (I wish I did) and didn't spend much time here since we had a movie to catch. We will definitely come back! The service was good, and the food was amazing! I'm trying to support the black businesses in my neighborhood. Me and a friend go here at exactly 4 pm. Happy hour starts. We sit at the bar area for 10 mins. No one comes. Then we go to the desk to get a regular table and the tell us 30 mins and no one is in the damn place. Then tell us to sit at the bar table. We were just sitting there for 10 mins. Attended jaspers on 4/20 and was greeted by a young lady that was short with two cornrows. She wasn't attentive at all. She helped a guest with a crossword puzzle the entire night. I quickly asked for help from another bartender which was a new young man. I later on asked his name because he was so respectful. I had a pleasure working with Mike and i can't wait to come see him again. I guess i wasn't a regular and didn't have a cash app tip for her like her crossword puzzle customer. Bad service. Came with my son for a seafood dinner. Ordered 1 glass of draft beer but got denied from server because of my DL "expired" - i showed old ID + temporary extention paper from dmv confirming that DL is actual and i am waiting my new ID by mail. It is good for police but not good for manager. So stupid! They need to verify my age and it is 37. They found problem where it doesn't exist. Come on! Don't wanna continue my dinner here. read more

The atmosphere is very relaxed, social distancing was absolutely in place ( I love the fact that they actually blocked off every other sitting area). I've been coming to jaspers forever even before the pandemic we have used this restaurant to have birthday gatherings and celebrations and just to come to happy hour because it's a great restaurant. Yesterday, Friday night we were celebrating my brother-in-law's birthday and had a very large party. unfortunately jaspers is not taking reservations no matter the size of the party. So we arrived early around 7 o'clock and was told there would be a 2 to 3 hour wait. That's fine we decided to wait and informed our party that there was a lengthy wait time. As we were waiting we noticed that there was an open space that looked to be prepared for 30 people and received a text stating that our space was ready as long as we had 90% of the party there within 20 minutes of being placed on the waiting list. Overall I must say the manager (Veronica) worked with my group very well trying to accommodate our group as much as she could. The issue we were running into was that the host wanted 27 out of 30 people to be there before they seated us at the table. Understood that restaurants have policies in place but in the situation I felt it was a little odd that you wanted that many people just sitting in your lobby when they're table is readily available that they can sit down and start to get things going. Moving on the manager did allow the 20 of us that were there to go ahead and get seated. Now this is when the fun stuff starts. We had one table of all black men that placed their orders with the server and went outside. again it's a celebration so there are taking pictures, smoking cigars and enjoying themselves. While the men were outside The manager informed my sister that they weren't comfortable with the table being empty and the orders being placed so they needed a credit card on file. No problem! We gave them a card and when the gentleman came back 15 minutes later we were informed that the server canceled the table orders. Of course at this point we feel as though the gentlemen had been discriminated against due to the simple fact that we still had three other tables that were filled we had a total of four tables and nobody else's food was canceled and again we placed the card on file for that table. Of course I can say the gentleman did not handle the situation the right way and were very upset and walked out of the restaurant after expressing their feelings about the way they were treated. Unfortunately, The server Brittany, I don't feel as though she handled the situation as professional as it should have been and honestly could have just left the orders in or immediately when she noticed they sat back down had their orders expedited back into the system so that they could get their food and eat. This issue really started a lot of confusion and a lot of disappointment from my group with jaspers. Because there was no reason for the orders to be canceled. Throughout the rest of the evening our group felt a little uncomfortable as though we were being watched by management/security and the server comments that she were made towards our group were very unprofessional inappropriate not to mention her attitude throughout the rest of our visit. Due to the Veronica's professional attitude, accommodations, and reasoning I will continue to visit jaspers but was very disappointed with this recent visit. Tip for management- going back to reserving tables with a credit card and deposit could save you guys so much headache. I hope that one day large groups will not have to go through all my family and friends went through. read more

We were visiting from California to attend my daughter's graduation at UMD and went to dinner afterwards at Jasper's. They did not appear to be busy but the service was very slow. The food was not that great. We ordered crab dip and calamari appetizers which tasted pretty fresh and were good. A couple of people ordered turkey burgers and two others ordered the beef burgers which were ok, I think they all enjoyed the fries the most. A couple of people ordered salads which were good except for the spicy shrimp salad. It was as if they ran out of the lettuce cuz it was not a very large salad for the price and the shrimp was dry not juicy. We ordered sweet tea and a couple of us never got those. I ordered roasted asparagus as an appetizer and I never got it. However our total bill was adjusted for the missing items. My mouth was watering for some butterfly fried shrimp from Jaspers. I headed toward the bar to sit on the side booth. However, that changed quickly when I was told that unless you are actually sitting at the bar, You Must Be Seated. So, I went back and asked to be seated and the four employees at the hostess station got an attitude when I asked to be seated on the right. They said ten minutes when NO ONE was in line AND there are many open tables. But I decided to wait, until the male hostess came and they started whispering/talking so we decided to leave. Darlins', I don't have to patronize your establishment. The manager should take at least $25 out of each of the four of you all paycheck that I would of spent for lunch . I quit my job and moved back to the area due to my step dad being diagnosed with cancer a little over a month ago. so naturally I've been stressed, sad and on edge. My boyfriend planned a day out to take my mind off of things while. We agreed on everything except where to eat. I bragged about Jasper's and insisted that we eat there. We walked in and were seated in the bar area and told a server would be with us shortly. 45 min later, still no server. Walked over to a server to ask if he has our table he rudely let me know we're not in his section. After explaining that we've waited nearly an hour he agreed to find out server. 30 min later still no server. I walked back to the host and got him to find a server. Still no server. At this point it was too late to go to a different restaurant so we had to deal with this. A server walked by and I asked if he's the server. He said as soon as he finished bussing the table he will be over to take our order. That boy took a good 20 min because he was holding conversation with a table that already had their food and drinks. when he finally came he told us the server who should have covered our section walked out on the shift Or something of that nature. He took our orders but the options were limited on what sides were could get due to either being out of him saying there were complaints and wouldn't recommend we order it specifically the Mac and cheese. He brought our food and drinks and it was ok. After eating I asked for a manager. The manager came over, didn't introduce himself and didn't apologize for the service. He simply shrugged his shoulders and said he would do nothing. The server said the manager is always like that. Came to Jasper's for a second time two days ago because the first time was a great experience. Unfortunately, the second time killed it for me. So I was seated (along with my guests) at a booth near the bar. We had a nice server who turned into a pushy server towards the end. When we got our food she told us the manager told her to cash us out because her shift was over (she was from the AM shift). She told us the PM server in that section would take care of us and she would send her immediately. As I've worked in the restaurant industry, I know this is false. If a manager really told her to do that, then he needs to be terminated immediately. If she lied to us just to leave and get her tip, then she needs serious coaching and counseling, maybe termination as well if this is the service she practices often. We cashed out... 48 mins later; NO NEW SERVER EVER CAME! I asked a server if we had a server and she said she would get her for us. As our new server came, we could tell her from her facial expression and body language that she was unhappy and not trying to serve us. We explained to her the situation and she threw Venus (the prior server) under the bus. She told us she would get to us when she could because she had a large party to take care of and she was busy. I immediately asked for a manager. The manager came and could care less what my guests or I had to say. After asking for his name, he laughed and said, "no need for that, I will make sure you all get taken care of right now!" And walked away. WOW!!!!! I'm still shocker that a manager would treat guests in that way. The same server came back with a bad attitude and we left right after that. This used to be the BET Soundstage and the bones of that design are still here so the ambiance is great, they've got good seating options and the service was perfect. White we waited, or server provided hot bread buns to the table, soft and super-fresh right out of the oven, served with sweet butter. The baked crabcake I had was really good: tasty, flavorful and super-filling! They overcooked the shrimp by a few minutes, but everything was well-seasoned and hot. So my sister in law took me here for happy hour. The atmosphere is nice. She is part of a group that were also at Jasper's. I had the Tiger wings and they were really good; a balance of sweet and spicy. I had the Georgia Peach top shelf cocktail and it was ok. I guess this is the equivalent to the Long Island iced tea. I also had the parrot bay mango martini and that was pretty good. Drinks are a dollar off from 4pm till closing, except for Friday. I decided to drop by Jaspers with my son and grab a bite since they always have many options to choose from. We ordered the Tiger Shrimp which was delicious as always! Entrees we had the Blackened Salmon and the the Great American Grill that consisted of Sirloin steak, crab cake, and shrimp over peppers, onions, and veggies. I will say the Great American grill was just ok .... The crab cake was mushy. The steak was cooked the way I like it and the rest of the meal shrimp and veggies were ok! I wouldn't order that again as an entree. The Blackened Salmon was delicious!! The service was phenomenal as always to the host Stephen!!
