Was there today. Like others have mentioned portions are huge but the pancake was absolutely gross. The server we had, had more tatoos and looked like he served some time at Cook County Jail. The portions and food ... really good! I got the Olympian omelette (spinach, tomato, mushroom, feta). It was huge! I had enough to take home for lunch. Cooked perfectly and seasoned lightly. They dragged me allllll the way to Jaspers this morning because the claim is that breakfast was better here thank the usual haunts in Northbrook, and they were right! It is jam packed on weekends and noisy with commotion. But, it is a large restaurant, and they push the masses through. We had skillets, pancakes and blintzes. All just great. Went here just to check it out with some friends on their second day open. Great remodel, very nice inside. The exterior and front sign doesn't do this restaurant justice. I would like to start by saying, it is with a heavy heart, that even myself, my family and friends have dined with you for many years, we will not be returning to your restaurant. We will be taking our business elsewhere. This is very sad. I'm not sure if the owner reads these comments, but I hope that he does. On several occasions, we have consistently witnessed how the manager, young lady with long brown hair, treats the employees. I have never ever in all of my life heard a boss belittle and be so cruel to anyone. And she's doing it loud enough for me and my family to hear it and see it. This is not supposed to be part of the dining experience for me, my children or family. It's happened so many times that I can not in good conscience continue to give my money to any establishment that lets the managment treat the hard working employees so terrible. Also it's not only the manager, it's the girl behind the counter. She screams at the employees as well and is just as terrible. I thought she was having a few bad days because she looks very pregnant, but it is disgusting the ways she screams and yells. Just because she does it in Spanish sometimes does not mean there are not a lot of customers that don't understand the terrible filth coming out of her mouth. from Jasper's..... to Hamilton's.... and back to Jasper's..... the rollercoaster ride that this restaurant has taken me on over the years has been nothing short of miraculous. When this place went by Jasper's on the first go around I was still a child, picking at my chocolate chip pancakes with a full belly, hoping that maybe time might reveal a little extra room in my stomach for just one more exquisite bite!!!! But alas, that was not the case. Those gooey, chocolatey beasts proved themselves to be quite the filling breakfast. I had to move on. Flash forward several years to a middle school version of myself. The restaurant is now called Hamilton's and, despite the name-change, is still a favorite among my family and friends. Looking at the menu, my eyes stopped on the chocolate chip pancakes, a favorite of my younger self. I reminisced for a few moments before I made the mature decision to order the banana crepes. This would become my 'regular' during the Hamilton's days of this establishment. Now as i have become an adult and this restaurant has returned to its original name of Jasper's, I find myself appreciating the more savory items on the menu. As a seasoned veteran of this place, I can tell you that the veggie eggs Benedict (with cholula of course) won't be betraying the tastebuds of glenview anytime soon!!! The inside is very clean. It feels different inside than how it looks outside. Outside looks old and inside is new. I got their challah french toast and an order of turkey sausage and cup of skim milk. 3 big slices of french toast. Good stuff only if eaten with syrup. Better than regular french toast I've tried before. I usually have to order a kids meal separate from my order for my son but this time we were able to share and it was equally filling for both of us. Saved money there! My husband ordered the corned beef and hash with eggs and order of pancakes. He scarfed down the pancakes (big pancakes) and ate maybe a quarter of the corned beef hash and was full. Our bill came out to about $30. We went on a thursday morning around 10am. It wasn't busy at all. I would recommend the challah french toast again. Sausage casing was too tough. I've only been here for breakfast, so that's what I'll comment on. First, the portions are ENORMOUS-- I always take half of my serving home (that's not necessarily a bad thing). And the prices are reasonable. The food is good basic fare. Not as good as the pancake house down the road, but nice in its own way, and less expensive. As for the service, I had no complaint during the times I visited. This is not a fast food restaurant. If you haven't time to sit down and be waited on, you should probably go elsewhere as it does take a little time. One other thing I noticed is that the silverware is absolutely spotless. That caught my eye because it is somewhat unusual except in really good restaurants. It gives you a good feeling that they are somewhat careful about cleanliness. Finally, they have a huge parking lot. You won't have any problem finding a place to park. That's always a plus. read more

I've been here twice and both times were really great! The service is awesome and we got our food super fast! I highly recommend the Northshore skillet if you're in a savory mood and the french toast if you're in a sweet mood. My only criticism is the bacon is just 'eh' and the coffee is just your standard diner-type coffee. There's tons of parking and never a wait. Definitely recommend for brunch! However if same four people utilize the backroom to play a game, and enter the dining room for lunch, and request separate checks, our request is not met. Also owner will not adjust temperature in backroom. So if same four people enter Jasper's on Monday, they receive separate checks. If same four people play a card game in backroom on Thursday, and enter restaurant, they may not have separate checks. If Jasper's does not want backroom utilized for games then close it. Jasper's has alienated four people who will in turn tell another four people and so on. Jasper's is not customer friendly. read more

Over all, the place is a very cute, cozy breakfast spot. The food was alright, the scrambled eggs were your basic diner eggs, so nothing exciting. The service was speedy and respectful, despite the place being packed on a Sunday. Parking is a little iffy because the lot is a bit small for the size of the restaurant. first time eater @jasper's with my guy. we were there for a later lunch, so missed the crowds and were seated promptly. water and extra napkins were offered and our server was funny and fast! told her it was our first time at the place and she gave us some ideas and brought our drinks. i thought that the ice tea was good, but my BH was not happy with the "lipton tea-like taste". :/ he ordered the 'shroom and swiss burger medium rare and it DID arrive medium rare! score one for the new kid. french fry portion was ginormous, hot and crisp, but fried a bit too dark. cole slaw was tasted and rejected. had a starter of chicken noodle soup and he said it was very good. i had a starter salad with balsamic, which was ok. i mean, salads are hard to mess up, right? and an order of potato pancakes. they were cooked well, but had an unusual aftertaste...sugar??...strangely sweet...just odd so i helped myself to a few french fries that weren't overly dark, instead. My husband found Jasper's Cafe on an internet search for a good place to try some intriguing burgers - elk, bison, kangaroo and lots more to choose from - in Medford. OMG, he discovered the ultimate BEST BURGER PLACE EVER! Wanting a "simple burger", I ordered the Classic - the choicest of beef cooked to absolute perfection - which is just beyond rare because they can't serve rare meat. The juicy, thick patty nestled atop a nice bed of lettuce, onions sliced thinly, and a thick slice of tomato. A little mustard, but no mayo or cheese necessary - for my tastes. Oh, but the bun - fresh, artisan with a rich, deep freshly-baked taste! Absolutely PERFECT, with deep, rich flavors and fresh, crisp textures. It could NOT have been better! Oh, and it is served with a crispy, dilly pickle spear - excellence! My husband enjoyed the Buffalo Burger, which is a healthy, less fat bison that is tasty and delicious too. Creamy slices of avocado, pepper jack cheese, and a tangy chipotle sauce combined with the bison, and the rich bun flavor to deliver a great tasting burger! Add in the twisty fries, that were served with ranch dressing, and the meal was almost complete. That's because he added in a blueberry milkshake - served in a Mason jar - and that created an absolutely perfect nostalgic "burger meal deal"! YUM! The burgers are great - and the guys serving, cooking and chatting were friendly, had great suggestions, and know their business. We have been coming to Jaspers on Sunday for brunch for several years. We used to go to that place on Milwaukee Ave, but the food and service at Jaspers are much better. The omlette's are huge and they happily give you a container to take home the half that was too big to eat. Ask them to deep fry the hash browns. They are great and so are the omelettes. Ate here for the first time yesterday, and overall, it was a pleasant experience. The service was good and the food came quickly. I had a Olympian omelette with no cheese, hash browns, and pancakes. My partner had the Denver omelette with hash browns and pancakes. The omelettes were delicious and HUGE! We both had to bring leftovers home of both the eggs and the hash browns. I liked the hash browns better here than at Walker Brothers. These are cooked thinner and are more crispy and flavorful. The biggest disappointment was the pancakes. They're thinner and denser than I normally prefer, but my biggest issue was the flavor and sweetness. The pancakes tasted so strongly of vanilla they seemed more like yellow cake than pancakes, and they were SO sweet! They didn't taste bad, per se, just not like pancakes. Jaspers Cafe has now regularly increased their menu prices on Mother's Day & Fathers Day. On a day where they know that the restaurant is going to be busier, they jack their prices, taking advantage of the holiday and taking advantage of their customers. It is poor practice in my opinion. When we asked the manager why he did it, he said it was to pay for the extra staff. Very poor reason. Breakfast food has the highest margin as it is, so great job Jaspers taking advantage of your customers on holidays where moms and dads should be honored, not ripped off for mediocre breakfast food. read more

Let me just start by saying that I am the biggest fan of Walker Brothers Original Pancake House (WB). I've been going there with my family since childhood after church on weekends, and have tried almost everything on their menu. They have raised prices twice in my memory, but I have continued to return as I am a loyal patron and absolutely love the food and have befriended the staff. With that said, I want to say that Jasper's Cafe will give Walker Brothers a serious run for its money. Ambience/Decor: minimalist, very clean, filled with windows so lots of natural light flooding in, very different from the dark atmosphere of WB Service: fantastic! our waitress (can't remember her name, but a wonderful friendly blonde in her 30s) was attentive and never let our coffees go empty and checked in with us just enough so that we didn't feel ignored but also was never hovering... also when we ordered the German pancake, she reminded us that it takes up to 30 minutes to bake, and asked if we wanted the skillet first to munch on or would we like both together, which was a sweet touch (she knew we were starving)! At WB I often feel that the waiters aren't very friendly (not that they're rude but impartial would be the word), probably because many of them been there for decades and work has become quite routine, but it was just a nice change. Selection: extensive menu with all of my favorites including corned beef hash, chorizo/jalapeno (love my Mexican breakfast mmm), skillets, apple pancake and Dutch baby, and there is a Dieter's section with various combinations of cottage cheese, fruits, salmon/tomato/avocado, hot/cold cereals, etc. which is awesome. Whenever I am dieting, I normally have to mix and match side dishes which is always a hassle and never quite as satisfying knowing that I'm not actually eating an entree but eating two sides, but I'm a woman and we think about food like that... Food: here's a breakdown of what we ordered on our visit and a little summary... basically all of it was very, very good -German pancake: phenomenal! tasted more 'eggy' than WB but was moist perfection and just so delicious and lemony and sugary -applewood smoked bacon: a little thinner cut than we were expecting but tasty and delicious, and just thick/tasty enough to know that the average joe couldn't reproduce the quality at home (how I judge bacon... if I've made better at home, not good news for the restaurant) -cheesy hash browns: WB hash browns are my absolute favorite, sometimes I think they are a bit too crispy and oily but the flavor is always perfect especially with the onions. at Jasper's, there were no onions in the hash which left some flavor to be desired, however the hash browns were much fluffier yet still crispy with 150% larger portion size... overall delicious, lots of gooey cheddar on top too mmm! -corned beef hash skillet - AMAZING!!! Jasper's uses smaller eggs so they put 4 eggs on the skillet, ordered medium and cooked to perfection. I love corned beef hash and it was honestly the best skillet I have ever had, what with the four yolks (best part!) and those fluffy but crispy potatoes and the amazing corned beef... I'm a huge skillet/omelet lover and always order a skillet if available. WB does not have these options, but the skillets at Jasper's were definitely far superior in taste to the ones offered at Annie's (another favorite suburban breakfast place of mine) and would KO the skillets at Meli's (Greektown) and Flo (also has amazing skillets) Price: much cheaper... our bill was ~$31, at WB it would have been at least $45 and I should add that the portions were HUGE, that's a given for the German pancake but the skillet was also immense (I'm the girl that can finish a burrito bowl at Chipotle... I ate half my skillet and was stuffed!) and the sides were heaped onto those little plates! Wait: 0 minutes at 11:30am on a Saturday... at WB there is always at least a 15 minute wait (Jasper's is about 0.5 miles north of Lake on Milwaukee... in 5 minutes, you could go from waiting in line at WB to promptly seated at Jasper's, enjoying a cup of coffee. The parking lot is much larger and there is seating for at least double that of WB In conclusion, I would definitely recommend Jasper's to anyone who has high breakfast expectations, to all skillet lovers, to those who expect friendly and prompt service without spending more than ~$15 per person. I want to say that Jasper's is like the Annie's of Glenview... better food quality but the same great prices and friendly staff. Just think, in a few weeks, the cold Chicago weather will have set in for good. The wait is usually out the door at WB, and the allure of Jasper's is going to do some damage. WB is still #1 in my heart as far as the food goes (and we have so much history! *sob*), but Jasper's overall delivers a superior dining experience. I will NEVER eat in this place again. The food was good... The service was fantastic... The atmosphere was ok until I heard a man on the expo line speak. We were here on Christmas Eve having breakfast, I was enjoying my food until I overheard the was this "man" was speaking to a waitress. It was demeaning, hurtful and out right rude. His tone was gross, The way he was speaking to the waitress. She was almost in tears. He belittled her that other customers heard and I pushed my 1/2 eaten food away. I asked our waiter "Who that man was" his reply quietly was "the owner" with his head down. I said well I feel bad for all who work here. He replied "he's not a nice man" I will NEVER EAT here again. Pancakes were fluffy and cakey; my meat lover's breakfast skillet was hefty with cheese melted perfectly, egg fried well, and potatoes and meat blended nicely. Went here for a late Sunday morning breakfast/lunch with the family. There were 6 of us. As expected it was pretty busy, but we were seated surprisingly quickly. They have a nice menu with a lot to choose from. Based on food I would give this place 4 stars. Based on service, I'd give it two, maybe even one. Service was HORRIBLE. So bad that when our server finally brought me the check I thanked her for the horrible service. For some reason one meal had to be ordered three times before we finally received it. One other dish was delivered by a different waitress. The order was incorrect which we mentioned to her, and her reply was "I wasn't the person who took it so I don't know" and she walked away. Nice! When I went up front to pay the bill i was asked "How was everything?", I replied "Food was good, service was terrible.". I absolutely despise this place. For our first visit we had the worst service ever. Didn't plan on coming back but my mother-in-law suggested it yesterday and what happened absolutely blew my mind. I ordered a BLT that automatically includes fries and soup. Out of the soup specials I opted for the matzo ball only for my server to tell me that it would be $1 extra since the dumplings require a larger bowl. So basically is be required to pay an extra dollar for a little more water and cornmeal! Unbelievable and the only restaurant I've ever been to in all my 44 years to have such a tacky policy. After passing this place dozens of times, finally decided to try it this past Thursday morning. It was clear when we walked in that it's a place that has its regulars, and a lot of them. I like seeing that, because it tells me it's worth coming back. It also smells like a breakfast diner place should. We were seated quickly, and everyone we interacted with was really pleasant. The menu offers a lot of selection, and it's hard to make a choice. I went with the avocado and bacon omelet, and mom got the veggie skillet. I couldn't believe how quickly we got our food. My omelet was stellar - HUGE chunks of avocado, crispy bacon - to the point where I think my Mom was sick of my exclamations of "can you believe how much avocado is in this omelet?!?!?". Her veggie skillet was overflowing with veggies, and she said it was top notch. She's not one to give false praise, so when she says she's bringing my dad back, you knows it's good! Coffee was fine, and we were in and out quickly without feeling rushed. Prices were reasonable and I felt I got my money's worth when I paid the bill.
