I showed a reference photo of long, layered hair with movement, face framing, and fullness. I never asked for my hair to be cut short, and keeping my length was important to me.
I do want to give credit where it is due. I absolutely loved the scalp detox. That part of the service was wonderful. But my scalp treatment was separate from the haircut I came in for.
During the appointment, I was told she was going to "let my hair do what it does," but I did not come in asking for a freestyle haircut. I wanted the haircut I showed her. My hair was very long before the appointment, reaching close to the top of my waist, and a significant amount of that length was removed.
When I left the salon, I initially liked how light my hair felt and how it had been styled. However, the salon style was not how I normally wear my hair. Once I washed it and styled it myself, I could really see the actual shape of the cut and how much length I had lost. Instead of the long, airy, layered look I showed in my reference photo, my hair is now much shorter and very round through the sides. It feels more mushroom-shaped than full and flowing, and it is not the haircut I was excited about getting.
I also reviewed my receipt afterward. The service subtotal was $278.10, which included a $90 silk out and a $30 length and thickness charge. With the $51.37 tip I left, my total came to $329.47. My hair is fine, and I can wash, blow dry, flat iron, and style my own hair at home. I went to a professional salon because I wanted a great haircut that I could easily style myself afterward, not because I needed someone to silk press my hair.
I also stated on the intake questionnaire that I was looking to have my hair professionally maintained approximately every 10 weeks, so I was surprised when I was told to come back in only four weeks. That was not the maintenance schedule I asked for or wanted.
Unfortunately, I did not receive the haircut I showed and asked for, I lost far more length than I expected, and for nearly $330 including tip, I left disappointed. I will be canceling my follow-up appointment and will not be returning.
