First of all: This business is still called Jaque Mate, but the menus and the check are already with the new name: Que Chimbo Parce. I've gone to Jaque Mate in the Kendall Village mall, and so far I'm still happy with them. Now, as for this Que Chimbo Parce: If there's something I'll never forgive is when a business tries to rip you off. And, yes, many other business include the tip already in your check (a practice I really dislike, but can sometimes understand), but most of them include the tip as it should be: 1) it SAYS it's included 2) it is calculated before tax 3) it is optional to raise it, reduce it, eliminate it, or leave it 4) they CLEARLY state that the space below is for ADDITIONAL tip. Don't get me wrong, the server went above and beyond for us and she deserved a good tip. But that should be MY CHOICE, not the restaurant's, and the fact that they tried to charge the additional tip as a regular tip and calculated it AFTER TIP AND TAX ensures I'm not going back. As for the food. We had tequeños. An order gives you five, with two sauces on the side. I didn't care much for the guava sauce, though you may like it if you're into that sort of thing, but the garlic sauce was very nice. We also shared a parrilla personal. The menu says it includes morcilla, but the server was very clear it was an error and it didn't include it before taking our order. It was quite good, for an appetizer, though I doubt is what you have in mind if you're going for it as an entré (worked perfectly for us because we were precisely in the mood for a bite to share). Overall, the restaurant was nice and clean and no complaints about the service... but those deceitful practices have to stop! read more

I passed by this place and it caught my attention with the music and it just looked cool overall. Finally came in tonight. We got sat down quick, took about 10 minutes to get our order taken. Got some beers and a hookah. Hookah is $20 but to be honest I've had better hookah and last longer for that price...so not really impressed. The guy waiter that's passing by, didn't even check or see that our coal had turned off already, I believe he was giving complementary chips to the tables too and he just looked at ours and kept walking and gave the chips to another table. So regarding the hookah, we unwrapped the foil because we felt it lasted way to little and of course there was still a good amount that was good to be smoked, so we asked the waitress if they charged for giving us another coal since ours burned out and I believe I heard her say it was $3 for that (including the tobacco) and I told her there was a good amount we still had left. Luckily they put a new coal for us. Most likely because the guy going around didn't pay attention to our table and hookah. Along with the waitress, she barely passed by. If she came by it was maybe like 2-3 times compared to how the other tables were served. Beers were $5 (Corona). So by the time we got our check they charge a service fee of 18%, so that's their tip that's included and they still ask for a tip at the end when paying. We came here her for my Wife's birthday lunch. Upon arriving we were kindly greeted by the hostess, the decoration on the place is really interesting since the whole place is themed as a checkmate board and have references all over the place. The menu is mostly Venezuelan food, then again this is a Venezuelan restaurant so duh We asked for the mojito special on the happy hour it was 2 for $9 and they were super good/ classic and strawberry mojito's are We weren't that hungry so we just asked for a Parrimate which contained churrasco/chicken strips, Arepas w/cheese, Avocado, Blood sausage and Spain sausages, Fries, and a chicken breast. Everything on that plate was really good, I don't eat a lot of blood sausages but man those were really tasty and the churrasco strips had a really soft and juicy texture LOVE IT! We also asked for a Beef soup and Fried calamari afterwards and these two didn't disappoint ! I would be coming back in the future to try the rest of the menu and definitely recommend this place to anyone that is up for some good drinks and quick bites! I am a very visual person, so when I saw the name and the decoration inside the restaurant (all themed like a checkmate board) I was intrigued to try it out! Excellent service. Tequeños with guava sauce are great. Service was pretty fast and people extremely kind on this place. Price is very accesible. They have happy hours between 4 pm to 7 pm. I recommend this place to go with your family or friend to have an amazing time. Inside they have a/c and outside you can smoke if you want to do so. I want to start off with the place. Is really nice and chill. Outdoor seating is great. Inside is a bit small! There is a second floor that they use it for private events and also the bathroom are in the second floor!! It is a great spot to hangout with friends have a few drinks. Backstory: my sons 11th bday / rolling 15 deep / custom cake in hand - no reservations- not the original choice for bday dinner HOWEVER things happen for a reason. Everywhere else we had thought of was about 45 to an hr wait time- none of these places offer reservations (they really should reconsider that) anyway stumbled across this lovely place -the music and vibe caught our attention but the service oh man THANK YOU A MILLION TIMES BRIAN AND FRANK you guys were on point I must have driven you both crazy with my questions but I wouldn't know because you guys were nothing less than professional, friendly, and in short AMAZING you guys accommodated us within SECONDS put our cake in the back so we can all eat on a clear table Until it was time to sing and cut which btw they even provided us with candles and all the necessary things without even being asked or told. Always a step ahead and always available when needed and ALWAYS with a pleasant smile. Horrible !!!!!!! We sat down and weren't greeted and had no menus for a good 10 minutes. Asked for beef carpaccio which was suppose to come with bread and it never came out with bread even after asking for it. We asked for shrimp appetizer came with a long hair in it and when we told the waiter he said no one in the kitchen has this color hair and I was staring at he chef with the same exact color hair ! It wasn't even removed from our bill. The food was sitting in the window which we were sitting next to for a good 15 minutes getting cold. Although this restaurant has a great location nice atmosphere beautiful and friendly people I wish my experience would have been different with the food this restaurant mainly is for people who like to drink and listen to music but as a restaurant their prices compared to the quality of food is not all that great the appetizers I ordered which were their famous seafood Mix platter for $22. It was mainly a few pieces of calamari a few shrimp and three very small pieces of shrimp. They also batter the mussels and clams and over cooked and Scorched taste. A got three that were totally closed. I don't recommend their appetizers I wish they would increase the quality of them. read more
