    Tajadas y Gallo pinto
    Monica G.

Found this place while on vacation. My travel buddy, a native Nicaraguan brought us here as she was craving traditional food. This was my first time ever eating Nicaraguan food and I loved every flavor on my plate. The food was super tasty and their assorted sauces were delicious and truly elevated every bite. We had the carne asada; me a Mexican-American must be clear that this carne asada was different than what I am used to, but was very pleased. The tajadas ( slices of fried plantain) were crisp to perfection and the tostones ( fried plantain patties ) amazingly crunchy on the outside and soft in the center. I would recommend this place. And while there, try the Maracuya drink. The only thing I did not like is the service. They were nice but kind of forgot about making rounds to see if we needed anything & the restaurant maybe had 7 patrons & they add the tip amount to our bill. We had a table of 4, each had our own bill & each paid 10.75 .....

The food at this restaurant is very authentic and pleasant. The ambiance is not the greatest, but it worth the shot trying it out.

I would like to give 4 stars but I'll explain what it is 3. We had a family lunch in a busy Sunday afternoon. Table of 7. We ordered several dishes, and 6 pitchers of sangria. The service needs some attention. Our sever was friendly but not attentive. We often couldn't find her so we had to ask 3 other servers walking around for food, water, napkins, etc. the food was almost perfect. All meat was cooked properly and seasoned well. The only issue was the ceviche which lacked acidity and salt. It was bland, tasted like absolutely nothing. I would still recommend Selva Negra for Greta meats and sides, just don't order ceviche.

Chicken wings on the platter, NEVER have I seen that big no no

I wanted to place an order of the Nicaraguan platter as I didn't want to cook on December 31st. What a big disappointment it was to place an order from this place. First this platter came with food that typically Nicaraguan platters don't come with. The platter is described as Grilled steak, blood sausage, grilled pork, sausage, green plantains, refried beans with sour cream, chicken tacos, sweet plantains, fried pork with yucca, fried cheese, corn tortilla and cole slaw. Well it came with rice and beans not with refried beans, also it came with chicken wings never have I seen that in any Nicaraguan platter, and I've been to the best here in Miami which is El Madroño, Pinolandia and Guayacan. I place the order here because it was the only place taking orders and now I know why. The worst Nicaraguan Platter. Meat was so hard, nothing had any flavor. Never again ordering from this place. I don't recommend this place to anyone.

Maracuya. Extremely sweet. No apto para Diabeteticos.

Food was good. A good improvement from previous visit 6 months ago when they served cold food with hot plates and a Carne en salsa jalapeño without jalapeños. Maybe their microwave is broken There are more flies than servers. And they come more often!

The location right on the river is definitely the highlight -- watching the boats go by while eating fresh fish gives it an authentic old Miami feel that's hard to beat. The seafood market side is impressive, and the fish tastes fresh and well-prepared. That said, the experience can be a little inconsistent. Service depends heavily on how busy they are, and during peak times it can feel crowded and somewhat disorganized. Parking is also limited, although valet helps. Some dishes are excellent while others feel overpriced for what you get, especially considering the casual setup.

It was a bit pricey but thats the pricetag of seafood in the area unfortunately. Our waiter was attentive and quick. There were a lot of people due to the holiday but our plates were quickly cleaned up. Our food took around 30 minutes to arrive, and the portions were good and filling. My only complaint was that the bench seating outside was SO unconfortable. The table is too low compared to where you sit, which makes it hard to eat properly. In addition, the chair itself was so hard to sit on, and because of the awkward distance, its hard not to get food on your clothes.

Champagne…read morewas served as soon as we were seated, and we were also treated to a complimentary baba ghanoush, which was excellent. We started with the bone marrow appetizer, and it was truly outstanding -- incredibly balanced, rich without being overwhelming, and so good we couldn't stop talking about it. We ordered the steak and eggs. The crunchy brioche, earthy mushroom purée, and beautifully sliced steak came together perfectly, and the saltiness of the caviar tied everything together in a really thoughtful way. The picanha was another standout! incredibly tender and full of flavor. We paired it with the broccolini and wagyu fat potatoes, both of which were absolutely delicious. To finish, we shared the ube cheesecake empanada. We were a bit hesitant at first, but it turned out to be the perfect ending to an already fantastic meal. The cocktails throughout the night were also excellent. We enjoyed the restaurant so much that we brought friends back later the same week. That visit was just as impressive -- we ordered the tomahawk steak, garden salad, bone marrow (again!), steak and eggs, truffle fries, broccolini, carrots, and tried all of the desserts. Once again, everything was delicious across the board. The only area for improvement would be the service. Everyone was kind and attentive, but at times too quick to clear plates and not proactive enough with the next course. At a restaurant of this caliber, I'd expect the dessert menu to be offered immediately after plates are cleared, rather than needing to track down a server. Overall, the food is exceptional, and we'll absolutely be back.

Overall, we felt that all the food…read morewas good- definitely had areas of improvement, What bridged the rating gap of the experience was the above and beyond service of the general manager Javier, our waiter and the bartenders. We chose the tasting menu at the counter. The execution of the initial dishes in the tastings were well seasoned. But quickly it was clear that given the restaurant was becoming busy and the food service and the drink pairings were not in sync. Part of a tasting experience is being wowed and enjoying the progression of dishes as you would a performance. Javier and our waiter in particular made sure by the end to ensure our experience was smoothed out. One note about the tasting experience is it lacked a certain level of finesse. While the service team did explain the dishes beautifully, it would have been nice for the chef to come out and explain even one of the dishes, especially with a restaurant that has the potential to share a rich background in history about the dishes and flavors. I found that to be particularly surprising that was not the case. In all of the tastings we have participated in (NY, Paris, Miami, Barcelona, Rome, Shanghai...) the chef has always come by even if for a second and it's in those moments that you really get a sense of the passion and the experience of a tasting. After all the origin story is the thread that would have pulled the elements together. It would have elevated this from an average to a more memorable experience. Overall, the food was solid, but regrettably not memorable. There are certainly elements that can benefit from workshopping (timing, chef engagement, consistent execution of dishes) however would be remiss if I didn't shout out Javier and our waiter for their receptiveness and making a positive end to the evening.

What an experience…read more I had heard about Tam Tam from friends and had been on my radar for a while. This is a place for which you basically need a reservation, and they are not easy to come by. We ended up visiting at 5:30 p.m. to be able to grab a spot, and since before the restaurant opens, you can see people waiting for their reservations. You are first greeted at a window outside the restaurant, and as soon as you walk in, you are transported. The music, the decor, the aromas -- it feels like you are someplace else. A great atmosphere to enjoy a meal with your partner or with small groups of friends. I do want to highlight that the service was spotless since that first greeting at the window, to getting you to your table, going over the menu, and explaining the concept; they made sure we had a great experience throughout the meal. But what really sets Tam Tam apart is the food. The menu is short but accommodating, with options for everyone. Small dishes go for around $20 each, while large dishes go for around $40; you can expect to spend around $40-50 per person on food. We tried the Lotus salad, the Shimeji Mushroom, the wings, and the "wrap situation". I would say they were all +4.5 stars. Each of the dishes offered a unique flavor profile, not only amongst them but also from other restaurants you will try, making it truly a remarkable experience. At Tam Tam, you can notice their attention to detail; each dish is carefully crafted, balancing freshness, textures, spice, all combining in an explosion of flavor in your mouth. All in all, go on Resy right now and book a spot. Tam Tam is definitely a worthy experience. My Criteria 5 stars: The best food I have ever had, or an excellent option given the price. 4 stars: Good food, a restaurant I look forward to trying again. 3 stars: Good food, a restaurant that I am indifferent to. 2 stars: Below average experience, will not go again. 1 stars: This restaurant should be closed.

As a Vietnamese person, the menu screamed contemporary, flavorful, and new, and I wanted to try all of it. The host was friendly and prepped us for a 30 minute wait that ended up lasting maybe 10. It may have helped that we weren't too picky about spots and ended up getting seats at the bar, which gave us easy access to the already attentive bartenders. We had a great view into the kitchen and saw all the lively happenings. Before I even talk about food: the 80s-90s Vietnamese New Wave music was incredible. I was hearing songs that I hadn't heard in years (decades!) and couldn't believe I was recognizing these hits from my childhood. That alone set the atmosphere for what Tam Tam was trying to create: a modern vibe with layers of true Vietnamese-American culture while still using traditional Vietnamese flavors. It was truly a great way to enjoy and connect with the ambiance in a way that I hadn't anywhere else ever before. -Grilled oysters: delicious. Came out covered in a delicious hollandaise and some scallion oil. Savory and unique. -Grilled escarole: this is an outdated review, so I don't think this is on the menu anymore which is a damn shame because this was my favorite dish. It had all the quintessential Vietnamese flavors: toasty dried shrimp, scallion oil, dipping fish sauce - it was irresistible and just a great reflection of how Vietnamese people can make the simplest vegetables so damn tasty. -Chicken wings: still very popular. Do not skip this. We were on a Miami restaurant crawl, so after those few dishes, we headed off to our next stop and let me tell ya, we were full of regret that we left. Should've just stayed, said to hell with everything else, and ordered the rest of the menu.

They also would not allow us to split orders -- for example, him ordering a couple of happy hour items at the bar while I ordered from the regular dinner menu at a table. The manager made no exception and was unwilling to find any reasonable solution. In the end, we were effectively excluded from happy hour simply because we had a baby with us. We ultimately had to leave and scrambled to find another place to have dinner at 7:30PM. The policy itself feels unnecessarily rigid, and the lack of flexibility or accommodation toward families was disappointing. Families should not feel penalized for dining out.
