Uh oh...it looks like I'm going to be the bad guy here and give the place only three stars (for the record, I would give 3.5 stars if that was an option). The customer service was excellent, atmosphere was superb, and the location was ideal. Obviously the only thing missing from that list is the food itself...which is why I feel this place deserves only 3 stars.
I love my sushi. But unfortunately in Oslo, I can't afford to go out and test every type, so I stick to what I like for the most part and experiment with sushi when I travel. I tend to order just spicy tuna rolls here. That is what I ordered when I was there and I was rather disappointed. I ordered the roll extra spicy and it certainly didn't come that way. Like many Norwegian places, they just toss the chipotle mayo on top of the rolls as opposed to within it. I hate this, but whatever...I can deal. The roll had hardly any mayo on it so I asked for a side more of it. Nothing was spicy. It has a very pasty taste that actually nearly ruined the taste of the maki. The maki itself was interesting. They put whole spring onions in as opposed to pieces. I found this cool and different (and it tasted great!). The problem inside was the fish. It was almost too slimy for me to think positively about the experience. I like a good consistency...not too chewy or hard, but definitely not pure slime. It left a bad taste in my mouth.
What I did like about this place was the customer service. And the bathrooms. The wait staff, which didn't really speak much Norwegian (totally didn't bother me as I speak English), was efficient and always filling up our waters. They have no idea how much I appreciate an attentive wait staff!
For the most part, there was nothing that set this place apart from the rest of the others I've been to. They offered mediocre sushi, pretty smiles, and the typical Asian menu misspellings. And while I found them much pricier (I paid 85kr per spicy tuna roll there as opposed to the place I normally go which is 57kr), I wouldn't mind heading back at some point to try something different and hopefully, much tastier. read more
