We spent a week in Durango and made a point of checking out the James Ranch. I wish that the farm tour was available but it's not due to Covid. So we did the small self guided tour and tho we may have missed something all I saw was 2 cute goats. Then I lined up to order our food while the husband and pups picked a table out for us in the grass, under a lovely apricot tree. Our burgers were ready in 10 minutes or so and they were great. They were cooked perfectly and for me pound is perfect. It's enough to be a think patty without being too huge. The fries were super crispy and came out hot and fresh and the slaw was unusual but tasty. The market is also fun with unique things for the home and kitchen. We would have bought some ground beef but had more tourist spots to see. read more

Highly recommend this stop. The food was delicious. We shared a burger as we usually do and both of us wished we had our own it was so good. The grounds are beautiful and well taken care of and they have nice staff walking around making sure you're taken care of. On our way out we stopped at the market and were just as happy with it as the grill. We left some organic grass fed steaks that we cant wait to try. read more

Super nice place. Came here Tuesday night and it was a super long line to order so I checked out the market while the other members of my party waited. Ended up getting honey (with the comb) and some local peaches. Everything there was right up my alley with local meat, cheese, fruit and everything in between. Highly recommend going in before or after you eat. The food was absolutely delicious as I got the signature burger and my party and I shared chips and fries. Burger was absolutely delicious and you can taste the difference of the local and fresh ingredients! Couldn't recommend this place enough while in the Durango area. Gluten free and dairy light eater. Best. Best. Best. Best burger I've had. I had the green chili salsa burger with a gluten free bun. I did opt for cheese on this only because it was made on site. Amazing. Tasty. The bun was really good. The meat was perfectly cooked. The cheese was amazing. The toppings were not over done but complimented the burger. Fries were basic but well cooked. Smaller portions. My friend had the veggie burger and she had nothing but positive reactions. She didn't finish her fries so I helped myself :) James ranch is an experience. The cattle that produce the cheese and the burgers are grazing in the pastures in the back. As a ecologist in my work life it's a eco centric livestock management ranch. Positive all around. Such a fun place to grab dinner. We stopped by on a Friday evening. Ordered hamburgers and a side of potato fries. So good. And you're eating on a farm with incredible views of grazing cattle. After dinner, we grabbed a pint of ice cream from the store, and some food for the baby goats. The goats are a bit pushy, but they really like the goat treats. My wife was so excited to try this place with the specialized burgers and natural dining space. Table on the deck had a great view of the pastures and ponds, along with the many cows and chickens. The burger had a great fresh all beef flavor, it was very tasty, the fries were bland, we couldn't eat them all, not sure if we got a crappy potato or thats just the way they taste but, I would never order them again. My biggest concern is the price of the burgers and fries, for $17 I expected to see a huge burger, and $6.50 for fries that were bland, nope not again, I can get a bigger burger and better fries at In-n-Out, and they use fresh meat. I guess if money was no object I'd order just burgers but its really the principle, that meal was just not worth the expense. read more

Holy smokes, this place is GOOD. We stopped here for dinner after a recommendation from a shop in town. We were blown away by everything from the service to the food. Of course, you can't beat the setting: the expansive ranch is nestled in the valley and boasts some amazing views of the mountains. We arrived on a beautiful weather day, so we enjoyed our meals on the back deck. There were also plenty of picnic tables below and space for children to run around and explore. We also noticed goats near the entrance when we arrived, which you could pet inside their pen. It was definitely a very fun, family-friendly atmosphere. The food is all locally sourced and made to order, and it definitely tastes that way. Our meals were simply delicious and very fresh. I had the Green Chile Pico Burger, which was perfect in every way. The meat was delicious and the green chiles had the perfect amount of heat. There were a variety of sides, so I chose the kale, carrot, and apple slaw. It was delicious and light: an incredibly refreshing bite! There were a number of other enticing items on their menu I'd love to try on our next visit. This is a definite must-do if you're in Durango! Though off the highway, there's plenty of parking on-site. It does get busy, so be aware of that if trying to dine during peak hours. I can't wait for our next visit! read more

Great burgers. Order at the counter and then table service. Everything was very good, but the burgers were the star. Hubs got a steak sandwich but said the burgers was superior. The only things that was not our fave was the fries, which are more like steak fries. This will be your personal preference. Next time, I'd ask for mine crispy or opt for a soup or chili. Best. Burgers. Ever. I got the mushroom burger, my husband got the original, and my son got one of the 3oz kids burgers - SOOOO good!! Homemade ketchup. Fresh cut fries. Soda I think... was homemade and delicious - not overly sugary. There was more than enough comfortable outside and inside seating. You can go pet/feed the goats. And the grocery store attached has such good ice cream and many other worthwhile things to check out. This place was excellent. Being celiac it takes a lot of research and time to find restaurants I feel comfortable trying out. This place was exactly how I expected it to be based on the Yelp reviews. Yay Yelp! Everything was so clean and well maintained. Plenty of parking on site. The country store is on the right side of the restaurant. For restaurant orders you order at the window and then they call your name when the food is ready. Very knowledgeable celiac staff working the day I was there. They even do the separate grill for celiac orders. I got the beet salad with goat cheese and the fingerling fries. Everything was so delicious and fresh. There was tons of seating inside and outside. Beautiful views of the mountains. Picnic tables on the lower level. We also did the little self guided tour of the farm. Loved this place !! Amazing. Loved the atmosphere and food here. Extremely clean grounds and delicious food. They have a covered patio type outdoor seating, and picnic benches set up in the grass area as well. The grass fed burgers are amazing, even their fries were delicious. All their menu items were well thought out and fresh, I would love to come back and try some other dishes. We tried to come back for a second run here on a Monday but they were closed, unfortunately. There's also a little store attached that sells delicious meats, snacks, and other various knickknacks. I highly recommend this place if you're staying in Durango or if you're ever passing through this area. read more

Absolutely love this place and have loved it since 2013, before the restaurant was built when orders used to be taken out of the small wooden trailer. After three years I was finally able to travel back and had to stop by again. Food is amazing as it has always been, the quality is so fresh and that goes for everything sold in the market as well. Almost put 4 stars because some of the staff was definitely not as friendly as I remember and seemed kinda moody/annoyed, was slightly disappointed to be excited to be back for the first time in years and remembering a certain quality of service. However it was a busy weekend to no surprise and everybody has their off days, I will not let one off visit put a damper over the many perfect ones I've had here over the years. The food and beautiful views make up for all of it and our visit was still great. I came here for the first time when I was 12 years old, I'm 24 now and this is still one of my favorite places to go when I'm in town. Will be back next time! read more

We came up to Durango/Mancos area for our first anniversary, and were hoping for something special for our 'Big Night Out' to celebrate. James Ranch Grill did not disappoint. In fact, it raised the bar far beyond what we were expecting. First off, the atmosphere of the place was stunning. Cheerful, friendly service, gorgeous views, beautiful grounds. We sat out on the deck and had an incredible view of the valley and the surrounding mountains. I told my husband several times that THIS was what I came to Durango expecting to find. The food was ready very quickly. My husband has the Blue Cheese Bourbon Bacon BBQ burger, and I had the Mushroom Belford Burger. Both were fantastic. The burger itself was perfectly cooked and unbelievably flavorful. We ordered a large fries to share, and they were fresh cut, crispy, and delicious. After the meal, we went to explore the little market beside the restaurant, and walked away with cheeses, sausage, and crackers for our drive home. Everyone working there was super friendly, very kind, and ready to help. I had to convince myself not to buy everything in the store. They've got something in there for everyone, so definitely don't skip it after your meal. In short, this was the highlight by far of our trip up to Mancos and Durango, and made our first anniversary together very special. read more

Adorable farm to table eatery with excellent food! We loved the scenic overlook near the picnic tables and enjoyed eating outside with our dog. The menu has a great beer selection and we were pleased with the IPAs. We ordered at the counter and then quickly got notified when our food was ready. Burgers were perfectly cooked to medium and had a plethora of toppings. We did their special jalapeño popper burger and found it to be so flavorful! Beautiful location, great menu. You can sit inside, but we opted for outside so the kids could basically run wild. This was everyone's plan as well apparently because there were tons of kids running everywhere. The ordering process is really easy, I liked the setup, it was easy to do unlike some other experiences we had in town during our stay. The food was not what I expected at all. There were lots of kale/beet/salad options, not just burgers are fries! Everything was really good. The fries were super home made. Loved. The store on the property is cute with some good stuff, but all you need to know about is the salted honey caramels. They will change your life. Especially the lavender. read more
