Shelves and shelves of jazz and pizzazz!!! Infused olive oils, seasoned blends, balsamic hot…read moresauces??? Almond stuffed olives, strawberry jalapeno jam, maple mustard??? And that's not all- you can sample it all with delightful crisps and crackers! This is one of my favorite browsing spots when I'm in Creede and is always one of the first few stops I make. This year it was our first stop... after hitting up the visitor center for wifi! :) This is a family owned business that opened in 2010 and I stumbled upon them the following year, been stopping in ever since! They are next to Elk Country on the corner of Wall and Main, you can't miss the bright green sign! There are olive oil blends from across the world for those fancy cooks out there. You can get them at $18 a pop! I'm an eater, not a cooker, so I always turn my attention to their pantry of condiments and foods. The price range seems to be $8-$30, but the cheaper items are in really tiny containers. This isn't your every day stuff you can get at the grocery store though, so that's to be expected. This may not be a one of a kind concept, but it's an extremely unique store with a lot of flavor combinations you wouldn't have considered before! The best part is they always have a table laid out to sample all these strange sounding concoctions first. It's always a large variety and plenty of crisps to go with them. Samples aren't uncommon, but it's nice to see them so prepared; takes the awkwardness out of asking so you can make sure you love what you buy. They also carry a small selection of items from local artists and vendors. That's fairly common in this town but their soaps, bags and jewlery are always nice and get my attention. I think the soap may be theirs as I haven't seen that specific type at the other nearby shops. However, the point is that there is enough variety in this shop for everyone to enjoy some eye candy! No matter how often I stop by, I seem to realize I've overlooked or missed something before. I didn't even realize they sold mustard before this year! My stepson stopped by all excited about maple mustard- and of course, where else could he have gotten it from? :) My mother in law usually comes away with some goodies most years too. They also have a website where you can order everything, including whatever there isn't room for on the shelves. That is especially useful if you ran out of a purchase and were craving it from across the country. In regards to customer service, I've never consulted with any of the owners before. I always see them with someone, and they do seem to take their time with each customer. Since it's usually one of my first stops, I'm excited to get out and see how the rest of the town has changed. So instead of waiting around, sometimes in a line, I take my personal tour of the product and move on with my shopping. That's doesn't keep me from coming in, I'm drawn by all the colors and curiosity anyway! Besides, I like that they give each person the attention they need. Come if your palate is feeling adventurous!

The fixed menu was good but there were some regular menu items I would have liked to try more that were not available. Btw, there were other families with kids there as well so we did not feel like we were crashing a couples night. My mushroom pasta was delicious but I would probably not order again, it was extremely mushroomy which is not what I usually go for. Still glad I tried it, as it wasore appealing than the other options. The caprese salad was my favorite, large portions and beautiful presentation. The caesar salad was well done and tasted homemade. My Italian old fashioned was *amazing*! The steak and mashed potatoes were cooked well. The included prosecco was a nice touch but I didn't drink it, it gives me a headache. There was a kids menu and they enjoyed their butter noodles. The dessert options were good, a bit uninspired: strawberry cannoli and blueberry cheesecake. As someone who typically detests cheesecake, this was excellent. Had less of that gross cream cheese texture I despise and more like a pound cake texture. Ambience was classy and they had lots of holiday decor and photo ops. Attentive service. Would go again.

The wait for a table was a bit longer than I expected, but once I sat down, the food more than made up for it. I started with the Baked Meatball Grinder as an appetizer. The meatball itself was tender and flavorful, but the baguette was on the tougher side, which made it a little hard to bite into. Still, the taste of the meatball carried the dish. For my main course, I ordered the Bolognese with Salmon as my protein, and this ended up being the highlight of the meal. The pasta was cooked just right, the salmon was perfectly prepared, and the wagyu beef sauce tied everything together beautifully. Honestly, if I was not so full, I could have easily gone for another plate. Overall, this place is a good choice in Durango if you are in the mood for hearty Italian comfort food. I will definitely be back the next time I am in town.

Alpino Vino: Even More Heavenly Than Lunch…read more I had lunch at this heavenly high altitude delicious mountain ski-in restaurant 4 out of 5 days. The fixed prix dinner feast was even more heavenly despite having imbibed 4 margaritas before the 5:45 pm arrival; and I drink very little if any daily. This very special experience starts when you are picked up by the gondola at Mountain Village by a decked out snow track. The relatively smooth ride up takes about 20 minutes - just enough time to get acquainted with the other about ten guests who were extremely nice and interesting. The food with wine pairings for each course was delicious and the service impeccable. The ride down seemed shorter. Due to the 9 glasses of cocktails and wine, my trip back to the right room was a little shaky. But this incredible culinary experience made the expected hangover worth it. I hope to be back next year, this time having learned my lesson.

I couldn't jump back on the lifts fast enough to head back up and check it out. It was a little before noon and the hostess said everything was booked for the day but she could put us in the list for a 2:00pm inside table should something open up. I asked about outside and she said no chance, it was already booked and everyone shows up so inside was our only choice. Five minutes later, my friend came down the hill not realizing I had already been there and asked about 2:00pm seating outside and she told him it was booked but people no show all the time so just be there before 2:00 and chances were she could seat him. Hmmmm. Anyhow, we show up for 2:00pm seating and asked about an outside table and she said it was all booked but could sit us inside. We were brought inside to a nice table by the window. The restaurant was empty except for 1 person at the fireside table and a table of 4 that were on the way out. Inside was decorated very cute, rustic. Each chair had a nice blanket available if needed. Our server Marissa was very nice and prompt. Marissa asked us if we wanted still or sparkling water, we asked for still. We looked at the wines by the glass menu and ordered two glasses of the sparkling Rose Pinot Noir. $24. This was actually delicious. We decided to split the Alpino Vino Signature Grilled Cheese Sandwich with the Organic Tomato Gorgonzola Soup. $32. We also ordered an extra tomato soup since we split the sandwich. The grill cheese sandwich was lacking cheese but had plenty of pesto, arugula and tomato. The tomato soup was served cold and no taste of the Gorgonzola. A big dash of oil on top. The food was a definite miss. When the bill arrived, we also noticed a $10 charge for the still water. Had we been informed we would be charged for still water we wouldn't have ordered it. We had our own with us if we had known. The water price is not stated on the menu. There is also a 5% culinary service charge added to all checks and $6 to split the sandwich. This is notated in the bottom of the menu. So, while it is a cool location and beautiful views if you are privileged enough to sit outside, the food was a definite miss and the extra charges were petty. I will say we saw the charcuterie board pass by and it looked delicious. Marissa was nice but could have informed us of the $10 for a couple of glasses of water. Go for the views and a glass of vino or bubbles if you can sit outside.
