I ordered the corn bisque special and the steak frites for dinner, my fiancé had the chorizo special and the hog baby back rib special. We shared everything and everything was outstanding. For dessert we split a lemon blueberry homemade cheesecake which might have been the most amazing cheesecake we ever had. We were so full and ate the entire thing. Then enter with shrimp and grits (I told my husband long ago I would never eat grits) boy was I surprised. Chef Bill's grits are to die for truly an amazing addition to the shrimp. So, James on Main gave me a rare experience. I got to have one of the best meals in a long time, paired with a wine I chose (it's BYOB) while being surprised at the final bill for being cheaper than I expected. You really can't go wrong here. By far, the best restaurant in Hackettstown - and possibly all of North NJ. Every meal we've had there has been outstanding - delicious, creative, fresh, and unique. The staff is the best - attentive, friendly, quick, and professional. The space is small so make sure to reserve a spot - even on the weekdays as it is always busy - but the ambience is wonderful and the room is nicely decorated. There is a small bar area where as you eat, you can actually watch the chefs cook - which was a delightful experience. He talked to us throughout our meal and at times, explained what he was doing which was fascinating. This should be 3.5 stars but you can't seem to give a 1/2 star. We finally were able to get here because we've heard so many good things! First off, the place is very small but very nicely decorated. Staff was very friendly and we were seated promptly. We ordered simple appetizers of French Onion soup and a cheese plate. The cheese on the cheese plate was very good but the plate was small and somewhat limited. The soup was very good, but for me, too salty. Our entrees were the Pork Chops and the NY strip. The steak was perfect. Very flavorful and cooked perfectly. The hand cut french fries were hot, crisp and also done perfectly. The pork chop was very thick, presented well and also cooked perfectly (which can't be easy to do considering the thickness). It just lacked overall flavor. Not bad but when you put a piece in your mouth it didn't light up the taste buds bug again, it was good, just not 'great'. The dessert was chocolate lava cake and a toffee cheesecake. Loved the cheesecake, lava cake was just OK. Overall I would definitely go again and try other items. read more
