Just like Athena's nails, the people here have telling time issues. Five minutes always ends up being thirty minutes; however, the services here a far better for an extra two dollars. The massages are longer too. I did my Brazilian wax here with Erica for the first time and she made me feel extremely comfortable and made me laugh throughout the whole time. She was even kind enough to give me a towel to bite on so I wont scream or feel pain. She warned me when it was going to hurt. I won't lie, it does hurt but she doesn't add more to it. Erica gets FIVE STARS. There is an Asian male that gives complimentary mini massages when it isn't busy but he never caters to people who are above a size 6. I have noticed that and I do NOT like it. This deserves two stars. When this place learns how to tell time and what five minutes really means, I will give it another star. read more

I've been coming here for more than a decade. Pre-pandemic, service was amazing. Now, they lost all the great nail techs. Today, at noon, I was told it would be a long wait. There were no customers waiting. On a Sunday they have no staff? I take two subways to get there. I have to seriously rethink giving them my business. read more

First time here. Beautiful decor and very clean. Only negative experience was the wait time. I had a 6:30pm appt for a pedi and I wasn't taken care of until 7:30pm. There was no need for them to bring me to the pedi chair only to have me soak my feet for over a half hour while no one whatsoever attended to me. Only when I decided to dry my feet and threaten to walk out did one of the technicians rush to get someone. It should've been a more relaxing experience, but sadly it wasn't. That really sucks, especially when it's already late and you're exhausted coming from work. For that, I give it 3 stars. If I ever decide to come back, maybe I'll have a better experience. read more

I am giving 5 stars for the pedicure my sister and I received. We indulged ourselves with the regular Zen Spa pedicure and the feet look and feel great! However, the regular manicure I got did not last intact even for the first 24 hours. It peeled off the next day and I need to change the nail polish way too soon. Those are my nails 2 days after I had them done. Very disappointing - 1 star for that! Maybe the nail polish is cheap or old but the level of this place requires a better product! read more

I found this place thanks to fellow yelpers, and thought since I'm back in the Astoria hood I'd give them a shot today. Based on everyone's reviews I guess it kind of skewed my expectations but I guess it serves me right for going on a Saturday because I didn't get a lot of the services that everyone else mentioned for the regular pedicure. After the mask and exfoliation on my legs, she didn't put any moisturizer on my legs or feet (I have NEVER had a pedicure without at least some random lotion thrown on there, now I've got dry calves and shins...BOOO). I didn't get any paraffin on my heels (even though the girl right next to me did) which is specifically why I chose to go here over my regular place in the 'hood. Also the girl pointed me in a chair at the end and not there was not even a half-hearted shoulder massage :( That being said the girl that worked on me was meticulous with the polish application and the space itself is nice and relaxing but I have definitely had better service for better value. Won't be back. read more

The secret is out, this place is orgasmic. From the comfy seats, to the tranquil atmosphere, and the awesome service. I love it. Athena's was always my go to place because they are always on point, but the 1hr long waits and chaos started to get a little old, after leaving Athena's and running into J'aime, I immediately recognized girls that used to work at Athena's! Could it be? I found another awesome place? Indeed. Eve is the manager, not sure if she still manages Athena's or only used to, but the woman knows how to run a nail place. The little extras they do for you really go a long way. The added paraffin treatment I got with my manicure for free was ridiculous. All this typing and I notice my fingers... Mama could use another visit to J'aime. Oh and p.s --- bikini wax is totally painless, quick, and CHEAP. I normally don't stray for my normal waxer, but had to- in what can only be described as a hot mess emergency--- and they did not disappoint. Awesome job, girls @ J'aime. Go treat yourself! read more

This place is very clean, and it's okay if you have several hours to spare for basic services in the middle of the day on a weekday. It's clean and the staff is nice (if not a little obsequious.) But the water for the pedicure was so cold I was shivering after sitting there with my feet in it for over an hour. I said I wanted an eyebrow wax and they said, "Oh, eyebrow and lip, right?" I had to repeat to two different people three different times that I only wanted eyebrow. I asked for a 15 minute massage and they said, "Oh, 30 minute massage, right?" So then I had to tell another several people several times that, in fact, I wanted only 15 minutes. It took almost three hours for them to do my mani/pedi and eyebrow wax. This was mid-day Monday and I was one of three people there. Part of the issue was that they stopped a million times in the middle of everything. Stopped in the middle of the manicure to ask me to pay, got back underway, then stopped again to ask me to fill out a customer card. I don't know why I couldn't have done all that when I got ready to leave. I wanted a massage, and asked for one as soon as I arrived. But after two hours of them calling the massage therapist and him not showing up, I asked for my money back. The woman at the desk kept saying, "We get somebody else! Somebody else get here in five minutes!" I said I simply didn't have any more time to spare, and had to repeat this a minimum of five times before getting my money back. I get it that there's a language barrier, but I really felt like they were milking it for all it was worth. If you have lots and lots of time and don't mind being upsold for everything, go for it. In the meantime, I'm going back to the fast, no-nonsense places on 2nd Ave. in the East Village. read more

RUN don't go here. Over priced. The pedicure was horrible so bad that so did not get my nails done. I paid $63 for a pedicure with gel color and not only is 35.00 upcharge for gel ridiculous but the pedicure was bad !! Even if it was 20.00 I wouldn't go back. It was rushed, the polish looks a mess .... i need another pedicure and again it was $63.00 .... it's ok never again read more

I live right near the salon and have been going for many many years. aside from excellent customer service the salon is very clean. I have always been happy with the treatments I receive and would highly recommend this salon. the only thing to take into consideration is there can be long waits but this is not unusual at any salon otherwise it is a great experience!!! read more

This had been my go to place for years but lately it's been not so great. For starters, a huge draw they had was the affordability ($10 for a mani, $20 for a pedi) and it was awesome. I occasionally sprung for the spa pedicures. The technician you get is hit and miss as far as being good or not. Generally better than bad though. However, lately it's been long waits with no preface to how long it will be. My manicure last night was truly awful. She filed my nails down way too far. And you'd think that anyone working there would have decent nails, but her nails were so grossly long and filthy. They weren't all long, probably 3 of 5 fingers had disgustingly long nails. When she massaged my forearm, she basically just dug her nails into my skin. Not exactly relaxing. As she painted my nails and did the move of clearing off paint from my finger with her nail she ended up wiping half the paint off. I pointed out to her, she redid the paint, but then used her nail and wiped the paint off again! They used to give you a mini shoulder massage afterwards, that didn't happen. My nails look awful, which they never have from there before. If this is a sign of the new Jaime, I'm out. The worst part is that they increased prices with no notification at all. It used to be worth the wait and the train and the inconvenience of waiting to get back to queens, sadly not any more. read more

It's more expensive then other nail salons in the area, but you get what you pay for. They actually take their time working on your nails. It's nice to not feel rushed! The only con is that they only take cash for the tip! At a place this nice you would expect them to put the tip on your credit card. Oh well, I'll just have to remember to take cash next time. read more

I have only had a pedicure here and they are amazing. Pros: they take their time and do a really great job. Cons: in taking their time, your pedi could be well into two hours. That being said, give yourself enough time to enjoy it. Also, they are pricey, so I don't go often. read more

My friend and I went to J'aime after the salon around the corner (which is connected to this one by the back) was full. It's meant to be the more luxurious of the two, with extra massaging and warm booties on the pedicure. It's also more spacious. And costs more for all that. However, be prepared to be there a loooong time. We must have been there close to 2 and a half hours and closed the place down. They move people around a lot and the manicurists are multitasking, so you might sit a while in between, while they come and go. Besides waiting with my feet in the water for a while till she came came back, my pedicurist did a pretty good job. However--- the manicurist I had must have been new as she didn't remove the oil fully and within 5 minutes of having them all painted, suddenly the polish started to congeal and skin over. The manicurist had already left and the manager said she would redo them, but it was late and we were exhausted. She said I could come back in the morning at 8 am. She said this a few times, however there must have been a miscommunication as I arrived there the next morning and they were shuttered up. I had to wait an hour and still they weren't open so I went around the corner to the other place, which had finally opened, and after initially saying I had to wait and go back to J'aime, they finally consented to a quick polish. So in the end, I not only got home late and was tired, but I woke up early and wasted even more time and had to go about my morning with wet nails. At least it somehow worked in the end- but what a pain!!!! I will not go there again, however I might try the one around the corner for a quicke if I'm up for it. read more

I made an appointment 25 minutes before arriving without any problems. There pedicare chairs are upstairs (open second floor looks down onto first floor). Been a steady customer for pedicures and still love them. Decided to add a manicure and was disappointed. My shaping wasn't great - every nail was a different length. I had to explain and show the girl that my hands should be even. Some nails look crooked as well. Polishing was rushed - I had to show her she only painted half of one nail. By day 3 I had chips. :( On the hunt for a reliable clean nail salon in Astoria again... read more

Came in for a pedicure. After about a half an hour of waiting in the pedicure chair (feet in water), someone finally came over to start. The basic pedicure here includes aloe rubbed on your legs, which is a nice touch. The actual pedicure was just okay for the price ($30 before tip). Stars deducted for the wait (and lack of communication about it) and the price. read more

Great place for a pedicure but DO NOT have acrylic nails done here. I had acrylic nails put on and the next day they were already starting to peel up. After 1 week one had fallen off! I work at a desk all day and sit at home and watch Netflix at home - no manual labor. Arcylic nails are supposed to stay on for at least two weeks and then you still have to soak them in acetone to get off. One week and two days later they're all gone. After the first one fell off, I went back to the salon and asked to have them fixed/redone. The manager (not the regular one) pushed me to tell her who had done them (Amanda). I didn't feel comfortable getting someone in trouble but she said it was so that they "could teach her how to do better." After waiting for 20 minutes, guess who sits down in front of me?! The woman who'd already messed them up in the first place. I left straight away and expressed to the manager how uncomfortable and weird that was. On top of that, I still have one finger healing from losing way more than the cuticle to the Dremel tool. I might even have to go to the doctor because it's so receded and might become infected. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. read more

I have been here several times. The hostess (I believe her name is Erica) was organized and knew what she was doing. The current receptionist is terrible (Lisa). She has no grasp of the scheduling and is generally rude. She has seen me before and insulted me by saying that I had gained weight. I am pretty sure that's not the best way to appeal to customers. The massage was so-so after I had left and come back. The whole place is run poorly. It's such a shame because it's such a nice nail salon. read more

If you want a cheap quick little mani/pedi go somewhere else, BUT if you are looking to really relax, and get a full experience, go to J'aime. I splurged on the DEAD SEA pedicure- OMG. The pedicure lasted an hour an a half. It was so detailed oriented, and so relaxing. I told the girl it was one of the BEST pedicures I have ever had in my life. It was $60, but totally worth it. My friend who lives in Astoria absolutely loves this place and always has the freshest mani/pedis. So when we hit up NYC this wknd, of course this is where we spent our Friday afternoon! Luckily we went at 11:45AM and didn't have to wait. I was surprised at how nice the salon is. It's freakin' huge! There's so much space and the salon is nicely set up to fit all the nail stations and everything else. Since I had gotten a mani/pedi prior to our trip, I opted for a 30 minute deep tissue massage with Jay. It was absolutely amazing. Hands down; the best massage I've ever had and at only $35! So cheap. I would rather opt to pay an extra $20 for a 30 minute massage in a private room on a massage table, versus a 15 minute one, where they place you on that massage chair thing in front of everyone at the salon. Back in DC, it would have been $60+ for 30 minutes. I was oiled up and in heaven and never wanted it to end. Orgasmic. Jay, I love you. Seriously. Heart him. Also got my eyebrow threaded. Now I have two again. It's always nice having two eyebrows. Whenever I'm in the city -- this shall be my HG of nail salons. My friend also loved her shellac mani and pedi. I noticed they also massage you while you're waiting at the drying station. Awesome. read more

Had a BLAST! From the immediate attention at the door to the manager opening the door on our way out, this was a pleasant experience from start to finish. I would DEFINITELY recommend this place to anyone, and already did. Planning on taking my mom next weekend. read more

J'aime Nails - Jan 14, 2012 - Nail Salons Near Me - Astoria, New York

Yes, a manicure here is $14, which is expensive for Queens. However, it's usually the BEST manicure you can get in NYC! I love the pampering that comes with the basic manicure here. There's a salt scrub, fresh mint rinse, paraffin, hot towels - my hands come out ridiculously soft and amazing, and I make it a point to come here for my manicures! Although honestly, their pedicures are WAY above my price range (I go to Eve's for my pedicures). The back massages by Jay are also AMAZING. 15 minutes with him is like an hour elsewhere. TOTALLY worth it! read more

J'aime is by far the BEST mani-pedi I have ever experienced! I went here for the first time with a friend to try the place out, looking for a good place for the Bridal party to get mani-pedi's before a wedding. I was a regular at Athena's Nails, however we wanted to try somewhere a little less crowded. We dropped the word wedding and assumed we were treated so well for that reason. The next time I returned however, the service was just as amazing! They seasonally mix up what special extras they add (parafin wax, fresh aloe, etc) depending on the season. And ALWAYS use nailtek (I will admit, I am now spoiled and can not go anywhere else). Their attention to detail is amazing! This is the only salon I have been to that the manicurist will fix bubbles in the nail polish without me needing to point it out! Now I have been going back steadily for 2 years, and have never had a bad experience! *****OCTOBER 2010 UPDATE***** I still love J'aime, but with all things you love, there are sacrifices... If you want to be served, be sure to show up more then 3 hours before closing, otherwise as much as they may promise a mani AND a pedi, dont be surprised when you walk out with only the one at closing time. I have found that this is the worst on the weekends. Three times in a row have I left with only a pedi when my priority was a mani, and so therefor am bumping my rating down from 5 stars to 4. read more

I MISS YOU!! I moved to Ditmars and I seriously wish you guys can open another chain here! The owner has Eve, Athena and J,aime, all around the 30th avenue stop. While Athena is great, the wait can be a hit or miss. J'aime is more upscale, but holy moly.. do they make up in the products they use. Free cooling leg mask, sterilization of tools on a customer basis (they drop the tools in a high tech disinfection tub infront of you). The products are high top quality at J'aime. My advice to all mani-pedi seekers, expect 2 hours for Athena and atleast a half hour wait time. At J'aime, book an appointment. Come with a book. This is the place where you want to unwind. I normally block 3 hours of my Sunday, sit in the pedi chair, soak my feet for 15 minutes with gossip magazines on lap. I leave happy and worry free! read more

I've gotten my nails done here a couple times and a pedicure once. The tools were clean, the massage chairs firm, and the nails looked good afterword. It's a nice space, but there are also about five salons in a two-block radius that are exactly the same. It's bigger than most, but it can also be hard to go with a couple friends and sit together. read more

I had a pedicure done for me, my husband and my son. I don't know what happened to this place but the pedicures and customer service is not the same. We were all rushed and they had my son deep his feet in burning hot water. At the end of the pedicure I got the paraffin oil which comes with it but my husband and son did not. They did that on purpose because they knew that the boys had no idea that it comes with the pedicure. I also tipped all 3 of them very well and barely got a thank you. It used to be really good but not anymore! read more

DO NOT GO HERE. I came in the other day and I wish I read all of the reviews before going in but wanted to give this place a chance since it's right down the block from me. They are so overpriced it is insane. $75 for shit powder nails and for a shitty pedicure. They have only one swatch of powder colors and the colors suck. I left with paint all around my toe nails and powder stuck to my fingers for that $75 you get a 25 second massage when you first sit down not even after or during your nails. When I moved to Astoria in 2012, I went to J'aime for mani/pedi's periodically, but each visit was never great for a variety of reasons (anyone remember that not-so-pleasant manager??), so I found a different salon, and have been happy going elsewhere ever since. This week, my go-to place was booked solid, so I thought I'd give J'aime another shot - sadly, my opinion has not changed - though the earlier-mentioned manager seems to have moved on :-) yay! What should've been an in-and-out regular mani/pedi took over 2 1/2 hours! Which is strange considering it was just me and maybe 4-5 other clients in the whole place, and I didn't have to wait to be seen. Also, since I'd been there last, the prices were raised significantly...they're a liiiiiitle steep now for what you're getting. Re: the services - * For whatever reason my pedicurist changed twice, and so did my manicurist, so that was definitely a time setback. And there wasn't any communication between the staff (insert: a long dumb story of me telling 3 different people that I needed to soak gel polish off my fingers, and it took until the 4th person to get that going...which slowed things down even more.) * Then, though this is completely my fault, a naïve me found out that this is the kind of place that can be sneaky about getting you to pay extra for a shoulder massage while you sit at the manicure table. I fell for it, and my tab went up $15 (a price that was not advertised). * Finally, in a nearly silent salon, one of the other few clients decided that she should have a loud FaceTime conversation with her family while getting her toes done. I was annoyed by it, and I looked around to other clients, and they seemed to have similar faces of frustration. But, none of the staff, or the manager, stepped in to ask that she lower the volume of her voice, or end the call, to not disturb others. She was allowed to be on the phone for her entire pedicure, only hanging up to pay her bill and leave. So, after all that time I truly felt like I needed a nap to recover from an experience that was supposed to be relaxing. Positive thoughts: the filing/cuticle work/polish application on my nails does look great, so shout-out to Rosa and Iris! And the salon is kept clean and orderly. Overall, I should've waited until the following day and gone to my fave neighborhood spot, Nail Berry. read more

Haven't had a manicure here for a couple of months so maybe things have changed. I stopped coming here because the wait time and the actual manicure time were unheard of. After going back two more times, I have to lower my review. When you go in for a mani or pedi or whatever, they never tell you that there is a wait - they just say "Ok ok, sit down" and you sit for over 20 minutes without anyone telling you anything. I sat for 20 minutes with my feet in cold water waiting to get a pedicure. I was too tired to do the manicure afterwards so I made an appointment for the next day with a specific person who did a great job on my nails in the past. They said "Ok, Nick, 2:30, see you tomorrow." Tomorrow at 2:30, Nick was with a customer. I hated the job the other lady did on my nails. The nails on the right hands are MUCH longer than the left, the lines are all uneven, eh. Plus I was just mad the whole time that they can't keep an appointment. The place is clean and very well-decorated, but I might look for a new nail place that's a little cheaper, if I'm not gonna be totally happy with the results. read more

After being seated and choosing my color for a gel manicure, I asked for my nails to be filed in an almond shape (note each if my nails at this point were a little over an inch long). The end result of my filed nails was a complete disaster and they were filed down to a few centimeters from my nail bed, and were NOT almond shaped, rather a mess of some square crooked nails and some overly pointed nails.... which I had not requested. Since my nails couldn't just magically grow back I pressed on and allowed her to put the gel polish on my nails. This was even more of a sh*tshow because after they were done and I had a good look at my nails while getting my pedicure done, there were huge bulges on the tips of my nails. As for the pedicure, it was mediocre and overpriced , but overall better than my manicure from hell. After my pedicure I requested the nail tech to redo the worst of my bulging and bumpy nails to which she complied rather reluctantly. Never coming to this place again, I could have done these sh*tty nails that look like I bit them and added way too much gel polish by myself and save $63. read more
