I found Parus when I searched for a nail place in the UES near a place I was meeting a friend and boy am I happy that I did.. I will definitely be trekking up from Murray Hill in the future to see her for my nails. It's a small space but very cozy. I was given a choice of hot teas while I waited. I was able to get a same day appointment and when she was running late, Paru called me to be cognizant of my time rather than not giving me a heads up. She clearly has a cult-following. I went to this place because of the reviews, but realized soon after being there that most reviews (at least of the photos I liked) were over3 yrs old. The technicians are very attentive and pleasant - but I had a terrible gel manicure. The color was all over my cuticles and I had to ask multiple times to please fix it. At first she tried to make it seem like the manicure was fine. I had to show my nails to the technician next to her and she agreed polish was not neat. She advised her peer to fix it. The technician tried her best but nails are not her strong suit - I suspect she may be a masseuse trying to do both as this is also a massage place. Also note I was there 1 hr 45 mins. I went a little under an hour before close and the staff was super accommodating and patient and kind. I really appreciated that they were careful with my nails and detail oriented and the products they used seemed to be top quality. I did the shellac gel manicure and every product was the shellac brand and it came out to $45 plus an additional $5 to remove hard gel from another location (if I had gotten gel from there originally it would have been free of charge). I consider this place affordable for the area, quiet as it's located on the lower level of a building on East 75th between 1st and York Ave and the staff very friendly and considerate. Super happy with my manicure especially that when I went inside, all of my nails were heavily damaged from the hard gel and had chipped in multiple places and were uneven in size. They made them look uniform which I honestly didn't think was possible given the rough shade that they were in. The day arrived and I got there maybe 5m before my time and was greeted by Parus and her staff. I was offered tea or water. I looked for my colors and then waited for maybe 10m until they were ready for me. The consensus is pretty much the same...quaint place and pleasant staff. They do great work as both my mani and pedi came out amazing and still going strong. It's a bit out of my way as far as location is concerned and I do prefer to have 1 manicurist do the work so I can tip her accordingly instead of tipping 2. Plus it's either cash or check. I live in the neighborhood and stumbled in within my first two weeks of living here. This is my go-to nail salon, as it is for many locals. You can tell because the ladies always remember their repeat customers and carry on conversations such as "how was your trip" or "how is the family?" While this salon isn't as big as others nearby or fancy by any means, it's a comfortable salon that feels living room esque making you only want to book your pampering sessions here. I recommend calling to book as they only have 2 mani/2 pedi stations but it is worth the wait to see them. They are very knowledgeable and take a great deal of time when working with you making sure you like the service you're receiving. They welcome you by offering water or tea and ask you what kind of essential oil you'd like added to your water. If you're like me and need to be cautious of chemicals, they will happily offer Zoya base and top coat as well as the CND nail polish that is less harsh on your nails. Coming into this salon feels like a literal getaway from the city. It's so serene and the workers are very attentive to you and in how they provide you a calming manicure and pedicure experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here because it truly relaxed me from my stressful job. The place isn't too big, so they can only have a few people at a time. It's what I like to call a hole in the wall, but in the best way possible because it's such an amazing find. With the small amount of people they are able to service, it feels intimate and they don't force conversation on you unless they're asking for your preference on certain services. I don't mind conversation but sometimes I come into a place not feeling very social and this was nice. Also, they play such calming music which sets the tone of your experience. It's quiet here, of course you can hear the city ambiance outside their door, but it's not as noticeable. First off, if you want a definite time dedicated to you, definitely call in first. That way you have an idea of they're busy or not. Also, they only take cash or Venmo - no cards. Honestly, that's perfect & very much appreciated. Additionally, their color choices aren't bad at all! Essie and OPI are two of my favorite brands and they have them fully stocked. I believe for gel colors they only have a certain couple brands but I'm not reviewing that since I didn't get that service. So the service I got was a regular pedicure. Which, if I'm not mistaken is $35. This included your usual exfoliation with callus treatment and a mini massage. In waiting for this service (Which was a maximum of 15 minutes to be honest), I was given a choice of citrus tea, green tea, or water. All are delicious and they are able to refill it for you. The seating for the pedicure is so beautiful but simole and comfortable to sit in: Beautiful copper basin and pillows for you to sit on and support your back. What I also appreciated about this service is that they helped my friend also match her nail color to the dress that she was going to wear for her friend's wedding. They matched colors and gave opinions about what would match better and how they would turn out. They also will test the colors on your nails too if you need to see it. The water they use also has your choice of essential oils which is so nice when they soak your feet. It just wafts up & gives it such a refreshing and relaxing aura. The work they did on my toes was beautiful. I pointed out concerns I had and they helped with it as well and I love it. Overall, just call & book an appointment. She offered me some tea as soon as I sat down (which was so great because it happened to be very cold in NY today). She also answered all the questions I had and gave me some good recommendations! The ladies here are so wonderful! I came here with two friends to get our nails done for my upcoming wedding. I had originally stopped by to make appointments a few days before, which I highly recommend doing. They seem very popular and busy. They also seem very responsive to phone calls - I only happened to stop by because I live so close. For my wedding, I initially wanted to get gel ombre effect, which I was told they couldn't do. I was fine settling for a regular gel manicure, however on the day of our appointment, one of the ladies here (her name starts with a K I think, sorry I had forgotten!) helped me pick out my colors, and we ended up going for the ombre effect but was glitter! They try different shades/designs on each finger and make sure you are happy before you commit. They did the same for my friends who were getting regular manicures. My nails came out absolutely perfect! The same lady painted my nails and it was clear that she had a lot of experience and expertise. She did probably 4-5 layers very quickly, and was so meticulous and there was no any sort of defect or messiness. My nails looked perfect on my wedding day and an entire week later. My friends were also extremely happy with theirs! I returned again this afternoon to have my gel removed. Once again they are efficient and got the job done much more quickly than I would have at home. I got ready to pay but was told that it was free since I got my gel manicure here! I was not expecting it at all and I don't think most salons would do this. We are definitely looking forward to coming back in the future! read more

Paru's feels more like a holy place than a salon. With the smell of incense on the altar, the sound of Hindu mantras, and the warm calm of the folks working there, it's like being in a temple. There are no massage chairs here; they've made very efficient use of Manhattan basement space with cushions on what's probably a pipe cover. But the bowls for the foot baths are beautiful and very clean, and the cushions are comfy. The technicians are also kind and lovely and helpful, remembering the names of regulars and the color choices of this haphazard visitor. They fixed up the toe I managed to scuff on my shoes the next day, and while they were at it made sure my whole manicure and pedicure were in good shape. They were; there is some kind of magic in this manicure, since I came in with raggedy cuticles and usually can't go a day without chipping my polish, and I'm on day 6 with perfect, lovely fingernails. read more

Still have lots of love for Parus! Their basic mani/pedi is better than the Spa mani/pedi anywhere else. They do a beautiful job shaping your nails and make great color suggestions. Most salons get angry when you ask them to test a color on your nail - Paru's staff INSISTS on testing every color - just in case. She also uses super high quality polishes and tries to steer her customers to use the higher end better quality polishes vs Essie - for no additional cost. The hand and foot massage is super long - comparable to the massage you get when you pay extra money. The salon is super clean and zen. Paru is a doll! She knows every customer - even if you don't come in that often. She remembers all sorts of details from your previous conversations with her. She also encourages all her guests (because that is how she makes you feel) to participate in the conversation. She also offers you tea and water when you come in. For all this, you would you would pay serious money for the services. Nope, prices are extremely reasonable for the level of service you get. Now the salon is open until 9 pm - you know I will be coming more often! read more
