This is a hole in the wall salon in the UES specializing in vegan based nail polish. I got the essential mani and pedi. They don't use acetone to take off nail polish as acetone dries the skin and nails. Instead they use an oil based solution which takes longer but perhaps beneficial? The pedicure is a 3/5 as they don't have actual chairs with running water. Instead they pour the water in a basin and doesn't cover your whole feet. So they don't really wash your feet or calves. She only used soap for one foot and didn't replenish for the second. I paid $10 extra for the dazzle nail polish which is their vegan equivalent of gel without the UV light. It's day 2 and no chip so far. Will I come back? Maybe for a mani but not a pedi.

One of my favorite manicures ever!

I could not recommend Takunya enough for a classic, very well done manicure. Ana did a S T U N N I N G job with my nails today, and was very meticulous in her careful removal of a stubborn gel mani I had done elsewhere. Color selection is great, environment is calming, and the fact that all products are organic is a huge plus. I will definitely be coming back!

While the woman doing my nails was very kind, the mani pedi I got was terrible. I paid $80 including tip for a basic mani pedi and already less than 24 hours its chipped and dry and clunky. both the mani and the pedi but especially the mani. I love that it doesn't smell like nail polish there and that it's vegan but it's a very small place, there is no running water in the basins and the products that use droppers are used on everyone and don't seem to be sanitized. Overall I would say a below average experience. It pains Me to say it because I wanted to love it- I got this mani pedi in preparation for labor and wanted to treat myself to something nice that ended up being subpar.

I do not recommend this nail salon. Today I had a walk-in appointment. My experience and manicure were overall below average and not a good experience. One reason I will not be returning to this nail salon is because of how poorly my manicure turned out. See the picture below. Secondly, I didn't like how I was treated compared to the white customers. ONLY I was asked in the middle of my manicure before she put the polish on to pay. Never in my life have I been asked to pay in the middle of my service. Which I was very taken aback by and had to reach into my bag after my fingers had just been filed, cleaned, etc. Although I thought it was strange, I just assumed that was procedure at this nail salon. However, then two white customers came in after me, and they were NOT asked to pay at any point before the service concluded. Very displeased and will not be returning.

The dazzle dry is $10 more, beware, no signage posted and I wasn't told until after I paid

Happy there is a non-toxic nail salon in the neighborhood. Have been here a few times. Decent selection on non-toxic nail polishes. Not happy with the pricing of my last experience today. I was charged more for my toes because I chose the dazzle dry nail polish. I was not told until after I paid that it was extra. When I picked a color I asked if it was new and they responded yes. I am unhappy I was forced to pay more for my already expensive pedicure. I am happy to pay more in general for a non-toxic salon, but putting this nail polish with the regular nail polish and not notifying me that is was more prior to putting it on my toes is not ok. The service was good until that happened, I tipped on the full amount I know it's important to do so, but they should not have charged me for the dazzle dry nail polish. The place is clean and I hope they make their customers feel more welcome then I have felt. The first time I came here they double booked my time slot and I had to come back an hour later and they didn't offer me anything extra for my trouble.

I have one particular place in the area a few blocks away where I generally get a monthly pedicure. Unfortunately while I love it at the other place it's getting a little too expensive and too busy. 60-70 for a spa pedicure down the street - so I decided to try a new place today I found this place on yelp and walked by a few times. What drew me in was the simple decor, the yelp reviews and the fact that they use eco friendly non toxic products and nail polish. It was a very small but inviting space with wicker chairs and individual lamps for each customer . To give you perspective of how small, this place could fit no more than 6-8 clients at a time. There was no wait on a Thursday at 615 when I went. It was interesting to me that they didn't have a faucet with a jet for the pedicure stations but rather a "bowl" of water for each customer where you would soak your feet. It was different as there was not a lot of water but it was sufficient to cover my feet. The techs would take the bowl at the end of the session and scrub them in a back room. ( I heard someone scrubbing one since it's a very small place) I felt bad they had to carry the bowl of water which has a cover away once the pedicure was over as it looked cumbersome but not necessary heavy . I got the spa pedicure for 42 dollars which I thoroughly enjoyed. It came with a 10 min foot massage, callus remover and thorough scrub. All the products felt very luxurious and were fragrant but pleasant, not overpowering . The tech applied the nail polish well and really cleaned my nails. She took her time and overall I was there for an hour and a half. They do have something called an nyc manicure which is much faster . My only complaint would be to have stronger fans for drying ( I could barely feel the air) One thing that I've noticed from other places is that every time I get my nails done, I get a headache from the nail polish and my husband complains of the chemical smell as soon as I get home from the salon. The only exception is a place that uses zoya nail polish. I did not have any headache after visiting Takunya. I chose the Aila nail polish but they also have smith and cult which I looked up and is apparently a high end eco friendly non toxic nail polish . I definitely plan on returning soon.

Adorable neighborhood nail salon. Very calm and cozy. Got a great manicure. Worth the price for an elevated experience.

Yes, yes, I did…read more I came upon One L when I was in dire need of a manicure after my barely week and a half old manicure from another salon was chipped into oblivion. After searching through Yelp, I found One L and saw they practice my favorite manicure, Russian manicure. I booked a spot with Tim at their midtown location and off I went. I loved the vibe the moment I entered. I was greeted by first their friendly front desk staff and then my tech Tim. And then we got down to business. And, Tim meant business. He spent nearly an hour prepping and shaping my nails, looking at my nails from all angles to make sure they were in the optimal condition for the color to come. And, then the color application had the same level of meticulousness (even breaking out the small brushes to get right into the edges of the nail).
