This was my first time returning here after a few years. I chose to come back because I wanted extra pampering, a thorough spa pedicure and a manicure. Hooray it's spring again. My services began immediately with me soaking my feet for several minutes (I wish the water was warmer which I asked for 2x) but it wasn't unbearable. However, while sitting down I saw a bug (wasn't sure what kind) on my chair and let the woman who sat me down know. Shortly after a new woman came to start my pedicure and I saw an ant on my chair. I informed her and she covered the space where it was with a towel. Towards the end of my pedicure two other women came in and complained about seeing a roach on one of their chairs. GROSS! Roaches are nasty but they acted like it was a dragon so comic relief for a few minutes. My pedicure was actually pleasant and so was my manicure until the manicurist told me that she couldn't polish my nails because she was told by the manager that she (manager) would do it. I asked why and was told she didn't know. By the next day my nails looked like crap (see picture) not sure exactly what she did wrong for this to happen. J'aime Nails is great! They are keeping customers safe during the pandemic by observing great health and safety practices. When you enter a member of the staff prompts you to sanitize your hands. They then take your temperature, have you sign in and complete a affidavit to confirm your are healthy. You get a glove to use while choosing a polish. There are partions around each station and air purifiers in use as well. Everyone must wear masks of course. read more

But, somehow never miss a beat when it's time to pay. For the prices they charge you would think they would have top tier service. But, the service has been horrible time and time again. Decor and friendly manager are a plus. Certified Masseurs too, however there is always an issue with the gel/powder gel pedicure. The material they use is low quality. Cracks within 2-3 days. At my regular nail place gel powder lasts me perfectly more than 3 weeks for less money. I ve been occasionally coming here for almost 5 years and unfortunately always had an issue. Even the manager told me today their gel is only expected to last 2 weeks. For $42-50 and a loooonggg 3hours of time spent it better last longer. Wow... Just had a great experience here. I walked in after being (politely) turned away by a nearby boutique hair/nail/massage salon on Newtown Ave that evidently required an appointment (fair enough). I pulled up Yelp before entering J'aime and admittedly, I almost decided to call it a day and go home when I saw some of the Yelp photos and read about the arguably high pricing. Throwing caution to the wind, I decided to go for it. I was greeted right when I walked in to the immaculate spa-like salon, and when I asked I was told it would be about a 20 minute wait for a regular mani-pedi. I agreed to wait and 20 minutes later Amanda greeted me and and began the regular pedicure. Pause. When Amanda sat me down and came back with her tray full of magical-looking items, I felt the need to confirm that I was getting a regular pedicure. She confirmed. Suffice to say, the pedicure was awesomely relaxing and thorough without the need for me to ask her to really go nuts with the (individually-packaged and applied) pumice scrubber. Shush. It's been a while! Following the pedicure, we relocated to a manicure table where Amanda was happy to quickly test out some of my polish choices before getting started. After a good soak, she did a great job filing and cleaning up my nails, and with her precise hand, my nails were perfectly coated in a matter of minutes. Now for the price. Based on my experience today, I feel justified in saying you get what you pay for. The regular mani-pedi combo came out to a whopping $42, which many may consider to be fairly expensive for such services in Queens. On the recommendation of my sister, I came to this place because they do Paraffin treatment on both hands and feet during their regular mani/pedi!!! This sounds wonderful, especially for only $30! As soon as you walk in, the large space is elegant, serene and decorated with flowers (I hear that they decorate according to season). They have a large selection of OPI and Essie colors! he manicurists are all kind, thorough, and invested in making your experience enjoyable. Sadly, we found out that they do not do paraffin treatment in the spring and summer. They only do it during the winter. This was disappointing, however I did enjoy my mani/pedi. The woman who worked on me was such a sweetheart. I told her that I had to go put quarters in the meter outside where my car was parked. She had me write my license plate number down, took my quarters, and I watched her from my pedicure chair (with massaging capabilities) put the quarters in the meter for me! I was able to sit and enjoy my mani/pedi in peace. The one thing to be mindful of, you will be there at a minimum of 2.5 hours on one of their busy days. The wait after my pedicure for my manicure was over 30 minutes! I did not have anyplace to be so this did not bother me. Please do keep this in mind when you go. I came here on Sunday (10/7) with my friend & got a cat eye gel manicure ($55). I asked for a specific color thinking that it would turn out that way, but my nail lady put a black base coat on & the color turned out to be a sort of black/green/gold instead of the slivery-blue/gold I had wanted. I didn't make her change it because it would've been too much work & time & I felt bad. By the end of the night, a big chunk of the gel on my left index finger had fallen off. Today is Tuesday(10/9) & the gel on the entire pinky nail has lifted. Out of curiosity I tried the left ring finger nail & the whole gel lifted very easily, in one piece. Then I checked the middle & thumb nails on that hand, & they all lifted. All the gels aren't adhered to my nails properly at all. Honestly it's the worst manicure I've ever gotten. I've been a loyal customer of over 8 years at J'aime Nails. The technicians always did a great job, the staff was always nice and the salon is so clean. 2 weeks ago, I walked into the salon, and there was no one at the front desk. A technician asked what I wanted to get done, and I said a pedicure and she asked me to sit down. If the wait is long, I don't mind waiting as long as I'm told. After waiting for 20 minutes, there was still no one at the front desk, and I asked the technician if she knew how much longer the wait would be. She says she didn't know, and called for the front desk lady. The front desk lady came over (it wasn't the usual lady with the long black hair who is so lovely) who told me to hold on a few minutes and then she'd tell me the wait time. The phone rang, and she left for another TEN MINUTES. When she came back, she went upstairs & I tried asking her again but she refused to make eye contact with me. After she came downstairs, I asked her again about the wait. She said an hour. I said I'd already been waiting over 20 minutes and I wished I knew the wait was that long. She said I hadn't been waiting that long, I'd only been waiting 5 minutes. I was extremely insulted because she called me a liar. When I confronted her about it, she said - Oh, I guess I didn't see you sitting there. Unacceptable. I appreciate all of the years of service, but I will not be going back to any of your salons. My aesthetician seemed to be bothered throughout my entire appointment. I caught on midway that they seemed to be understaffed. She was also too preoccupied with the customer next to me and her incoming customer scheduled after me. I have had many gel manicures in the past that last an entire month...and I can tell you that this manicure is already chipped and peeling away from the cuticles within a week. My cuticles were also left pretty sloppy and she was pretty rough on them too...I winced several times from pain. At the end of my session, she led me up to my pedicure, which she then explained several times, she could not commit to because of her other client who called during my session to come in. So I sat waiting with my feet in cold water for about 20 minutes before another girl came along to finish. In the end, my former manicurist then walked up to me before I left asking how I was ( I really didn't think she deserved a tip due to her poor customer service that day) ...just looking at me and clearly waiting for me to hand her a tip. I reluctantly handed her one and left. I won't be going back. You get what you pay for. Next time I'll book an appointment in time for my regular salon visits in Manhattan. read more

Update: I came back to get my nails done. It's been a long time. I was hoping for a good experience. I asked for square nails. I got slightly rounded "square" nails. My nail polish wasn't consistent. I had to go home and file my own nails to make them look slightly acceptable! I paid $35 for these nails and they look horrible. Also, I asked for gel and instead got shilac. I didn't say anything because the girl who was doing my nails couldn't speak English and I told her boss what I wanted and she clearly didn't listen to what I asked for. I was brought to the next a table for the Mani and the wait was longer to the point that the receptionist came over to start my manicure. The relaxing atmosphere is great, the massage chair I love and the products they use seem great. However,$45 later my nail color looks very thin and my Mani was interrupted several times when the phone rang or when someone had to pay and the receptionist had to go charge them. They took walk-ins who were taken care of well and I had made an appointment which defeats the purpose of making an appointment I believe. I teally liked that I didn't have to ask her to clean up my cuticles or any extra stuff. She made my hands look bomb. They have different options from silk, dip powder, fiberglass , acrylic....I like to have options. I also got my lip waxed. I usually get irritated if they don't use good wax but it's been all day and no irritation. They don't double dip and that's great!! I also got my eyebrows threaded. They look exactly how they should...I have a good natural shape so it's hard to mess up but it's happened in the past.she was quick and it was perfect.The pedicure area is lovely. When I first moved to Astoria, this place was my go-to. It was three blocks from my apartment, the mani/pedi prices were great --it quickly became part of my Saturday morning routine. I knew to get there early though because the wait can be excruciating. Then, I discovered gel manicures. I got my first one elsewhere when I was visiting a friend out-of-state, and loved it. A few months later, I was going on vacation, so I decided to get a gel manicure before leaving at J'aime, so I didn't have a chipping disaster while I was away. BIG MISTAKE. HUGE. The gel starting lifting in the airport the very next morning. I tried to ignore it, and thought filling in those areas with clear polish would do the trick ---by day three my guaranteed-to-last-two-weeks gel manicure was completely gone, leaving my hands looking ridiculous for the rest of my trip. I blamed it on myself, and moved on. I still continued going to J'aime for regular polish. This past April, I was going to my friend's Bridal shower out-of-state and again thought, let's try a gel manicure. AND AGAIN, I got it on a Friday night, and by Sunday, it was lifted. Totally lifted, and it left my nails broken. Again, I thought it was me. I must be doing something wrong, the chemistry of my finger nails must be hostile, I should wear gloves at all times --something. So, I researched it online, and no, nothing about it was my fault. Old polish and poor/careless application seemed to be the culprit. So, I went to J'aime on Monday evening after work, and explained the situation quite nicely to the manager, and asked for store credit or a refund. At first, she seemed confused, and then she accused me of flat-out lying to her. She told me that I was lying about the evening in which the services were provided... and then told me that she didn't believe that my nails were long just three days before ... that part didn't totally make sense to me, but whatever. I corrected her on both accounts in the most diplomatic way possible. Then, I waited there for 20 minutes while she spoke to the owner on the phone. Finally, I was reluctantly given store credit for the gel, but she decided that I couldn't be reimbursed for the full amount because she didn't "truly" believe my story. At that point, I didn't even care about the money, it was the principle. Don't call your loyal clients liars. I haven't been back since, and I've learned from my friends in the area that a lot of people have stopped going there because J'aime's prices have skyrocketed. In other news, I got a gel manicure last weekend elsewhere, and it looks great, and hasn't chipped once. read more

First time here. Beautiful decor and very clean. Only negative experience was the wait time. I had a 6:30pm appt for a pedi and I wasn't taken care of until 7:30pm. There was no need for them to bring me to the pedi chair only to have me soak my feet for over a half hour while no one whatsoever attended to me. Only when I decided to dry my feet and threaten to walk out did one of the technicians rush to get someone. It should've been a more relaxing experience, but sadly it wasn't. That really sucks, especially when it's already late and you're exhausted coming from work. For that, I give it 3 stars. If I ever decide to come back, maybe I'll have a better experience. read more

I used to go to J'aime Nails all the time, when I lived in Astoria, and I foolishly stopped when we moved to Manhattan. Big mistake! Nothing compared to J'aime--and I was paying upwards of $26 for mediocre pedicures. So, even though you have to factor in an MTA swipe, their $20 pedicure is absolutely worth the trip from Manhattan, for the atmosphere and all the amenities. The salon is large, airy (no sinus-piercing acetone fumes), spotless, comfortable, and peaceful; most importantly, the nail techs are extremely hygienic (mine used tongs to remove all the instruments from sterilization) and skilled. I had Asha for my latest visit, and I recommend her highly--she listened to all my anxious pregnant-lady requests (no acetone, no polish, no massage), and did everything with a precise, light touch. She will also attack your calluses as though they'd insulted your grandmother (which I appreciate). The place is very efficient, and there's not the rushed, squashed-together-like-sardines feeling that you get at your average Manhattan salon. So relaxing. After 3/4 of a year coming here consistently (once every 2-3 weeks), I'm done when it comes to my nail care. I might stop back in when I need a massage. I'll leave it at a 3-star review because: - the manager is quite faithful to her regulars AND is very nice and accommodating to all - they have some serious rock star gems amongst the technicians - the one massage guy is magical However, they have been changing things slowly to save coin (which is understandable, as they were offering an unimaginable amount of base services for the base rate), and, as a regular, I have been placed with more inept staff than good ones. Changes to basic mani: - no longer do hot stones - replaced paraffin with pre-packaged gloves filled with lotion (absolutely gross. Feels like what I presume putting used condoms which have grown cold onto your finger would feel like). The technicians are no longer provided with separate lotion. So they have to squeeze the lotion out of the glove in order to massage. And said lotion leaves the skin feeling coated in a very bad, sticky way. Last night was the kicker, when I received a technician who gave me a painful manicure, torn skin from my finger, was very rough, cut the cuticles though didn't remove half of them, scratched my nails with her cuticle technique...then tried to file the scratches out, unevenly cut/filed my nails, and managed to file on my knuckle when not paying attention. Half of the dead skin wasn't removed. Looked like I did them myself at home. Complete waste of time and money. I was so done I didn't wait for the massage guy, or ask for a buff. I just wanted out of there. You have the possibility of getting a really good technician here. Though you have an owner who is all about putting a facade on things and giving bottom-dollar services more than quality. It truly saddens me to part ways with this salon, as I've grown rather fond of the manager and many of the technicians. But I'd rather pay more for consistency then play manicure roulette here any more. read more

I made an appointment for thursday (yesterday) for my fiance and I to get pedicures together and I needed a fill. This place is beautiful, clean, and VERY sanitary but I was not satisfied with the service. My fiance got started on his pedicure before me and the girl had me waiting for 20 minutes (I have no idea what she was doing) and only came when I started getting angry and asking when I was going to start. We wanted our appointment to be done together which is why I booked it for us both at the SAME time. While my pedicure was being done, the manager (very nice lady) came to me and told me there was nobody to do my acrylic fill in. I was VERY upset at this point but I could not do anything about it. She said one of the last girls that was there and went home today and she was not able to get any other girl to come in and do a fill in for me. Not having a choice I booked an appointment for the next day (today) as the manager requested me to do so. So I went in today to get my fill-in done and it was a horrible experience. The girl I got my acrylics done from her name was Amanda, she was very inconsistent and took almost 3 hours on my nails. While getting my filling done she left my appointment to go do waxing for another woman which was highly unprofessional and inconvenient to me. As mad as I was at this point the manager requested for me to get a massage from one of the guys that walk around offering a few minutes of back massage. They kept giving me a massage so I wouldn't feel the wait time but I did time Amanda and she left my appointment for over 20 minutes when she said she will be back in less than five minutes. When she came back we continue to work on my nails and I was caught almost 3 times and my nails are very uneven. She did not smooth them out and she kept saying "I'm sorry". Overall the service of the guy who did the chair massage and the ladies who did the pedicures for my fiance and I (Cindy and Tashi) were awesome but if you ever come across the girl Amanda I recommend you not get your nails done from her. Worst gel manicure I've ever gotten. First off, the manicurist made my cuticles bleed and then burn with alcohol. It looked good at first, so I let that slide. Beauty is pain, right? I live right near the salon and have been going for many many years. aside from excellent customer service the salon is very clean. I have always been happy with the treatments I receive and would highly recommend this salon. the only thing to take into consideration is there can be long waits but this is not unusual at any salon otherwise it is a great experience!!! read more

I am a convert. I used to go to Eve's around the corner- well, at least until today. Today I decided that I would try something new. Boy, am I glad I did! My experience here was phenomenal. While more expensive than Eve's ($20 pedi, $10 mani) I was more than happy to spend the extra $5 or so for the experience. There was a scrub and a mask for my legs, parrafin for my heels and a really great massage. Also, my manicurist gets major points for asking if I wanted my cuticles cut or just pushed back. The space is clean and quiet and everyone really seems to know their stuff. I will definitely be back read more
