Pro's: Very clean, great customer service Cons: Received a clear gel manicure that cost $60 and within 24 hours it is chipping and I've had to do my own filing to it because I noticed when I got home some of the nails were chipped and crooked. Oh man.... was I glad when "Athena" opened up this place... def leaves her other locations in the dust. You are always well taken care of here. Everyone goes above and beyond... and for the last 3 years since I found her first place-I have regretted straying to find other salons closer to home. I will never do it again. I love the pedicure chairs, best I have ever sat in hands down. Every other salon has cheap and sometimes non working massage chairs - the chairs here are HEAVEN! I am completely relaxed at all times. I usually come to for my weekly mani and pedi - and while at other salons by the time I am drying my nails I am inpatient and cant wait to get out, but at blossom I never have felt that way. It is always such a relaxing experience, I walk out feeling refreshed actually. The small massage that your manicurist or pedicurist gives you while your nails are drying actually makes a huge difference. I absolutely love the pedicures here. There are 2 other salons nearby that are owned by the same "mother", and although this one seems to be a bit pricier than it's sisters, J'aime Nails, in my opinion, offers the best pedicure in Astoria. After passing this place on my way home from work every day and seeing the massages, I finally decided to "cheat" on my regular girls in Whitestone and get a mani/pedi here tonight. It looked nice from the outside, but I wasn't prepared for the inside-nor was I prepared for the service! OUTSTANDING. I went in for a regular mani/pedi-both include paraffin wax dips. It's the little things at this place. The simple division between the pedicure chairs, the side tables to put your bag on, the cell phone policy that everyone seems to adhere to, the attention the workers pay to you, the customer instead of chatting amongst themselves, the massages after and in between every service-OMG. I cannot make this up...I waited about 15 minutes in the pedicure chair before she came over. She put the paraffin on and massaged my calves with lotion. She did the pedicure, put the salt scrub on (which felt amazing) and massaged my calves again. When she washed the salt scrub off, she massaged my calves AGAIN, she then asked if I preferred oil, lotion or shea butter for my massage...I was like didn't you already do the massage? Nope! I chose shea butter and got ANOTHER calf massage. Painted my toes to perfection-I'll see how long it lasts but they look great. Helped me down from the pedicure chair and sat me at the table for my manicure. Dipped my nails in paraffin and massaged my hands and forearms while we waited. Did the manicure and put lotion on my hands, let them rest for a bit in gloves and proceeded to do an entire neck, shoulder and back massage right there in the chair. I just knew she was giving me the wrong treatments and this was going to cost $$$ but nope, $30. A $20 pedicure and a $10 manicure. Only gripe was the manicure wasn't that great. She asked if I wanted my cuticles cut or pushed back, I'm used to my regular girl just doing both. She didn't do a good job filing them and didn't clean under the nails, so I told her to just paint them clear, no color. And though I loved the massages, this particular girl was really rough on my neck and back-pedicure massages were great, but the chair massage was too hard. This isn't your average nail salon. They went above and beyond my expectations and made this super pregnant woman feel not so huge! First, a nice proper greeting at the door. The space is very large and you can tell right away they take pride in cleanliness. I noticed the air filters also, definite bonus for me and the baby to be :) After getting seated for a pedicure they hand me the menu. I just went for the first choice, spa pedicure, and was very pleased. Wendy was a sweetheart and did a fantastic job. She also did my manicure, another great job. I'm a sucker for little details such as the hibiscus flowers to soak your nails. And after selecting your pedicure they set up a tray of all the "ingredients", a tray specifically for you. Last, massages. Who doesn't love getting a foot and shoulder rub! Today was more of an experience than a routine mani/pedi. First I love this place, the ambiance and the service. Don't ever go when the Manager is off (Erica). The place is a zoo without her. Owner - Athena why do you look like a dictator? It's rude the customers feel it as well as your workers STOP being Hitler. Fire Sue, she does great work but her table side manner and how loud she is does not belong in Jaime nails. I'm not a girl who goes and gets her nails done on the regular, but when I need a good pampering, J'aime Nails is perfect! It's almost like spa-time, but for so much cheaper. Being reasonably priced, you might think it would be the same old, same old: cut and file nails, cut cuticles, paint nails, and done. J'aime Nails turns it into an experience. Mask with cucumbers for your legs, then a scrub, then shea butter and paraffin wax for your heels! And you even get the massage chairs too! Even though you can end up there for an hour or two, everything is done with so much care and precision, it's worth it. Very clean, very hospitable. read more

I made an appointment for myself and two friends. We show up on time and wait an HOUR before they start on my nails. One girlfriend waited another 30 and the third didn't even get her nails done the wait was so long they just weren't helping her. I had the shellac done, they tried to buff my nails with basically sand paper had to stop the lady, then tried to cut my cuticles with NO lotion or anything on my hands? While there were full bottles of lotion on the table. She painted it so fast and thick it was peeling off the same night I had done. My 6 year old niece could have done a better job. Move on to the pedicures. Had all three of us sitting so long the water turned cold, and instead of having someone come over to start the pedi they came over drained the water and put warm in. The massage chair was broken. I paid extra for scrubbing and they didn't do. I will never go back here again, I don't understand the good reviews for this company. I will be going back to Dashing Divas you can't even compare the two. read more

I've been several times for pedicures and I love the cleanliness of the place, and how they use all new tools with each guest..just the way it should be. Sure, you can end up paying a little more for a pedicure here (they have several packages available, so I'm not sure what the actual price range is) but it's worth the peace of mind. Try to go on a weekday, and with an appointment if possible (Cindy is great!). Both people who were working on us abruptly left and left us with our feet soaking for about an hour and a half. I come to this place all the time for pedicures. I love the way my feet look and the pedicures last a long time before the paint starts to chip. The salon is very clean, it looks like a hole in the wall from the outside, but when you walk inside it's nice-very upscale; the instruments are sanitized/fresh from a sealed pouch and the staff is welcoming. The name of this place speaks for itself: I LOVE. I love this place. Everybody loves this place. You will love this place. Their regular mani-pedi is the best bang for your buck. For a mere $30 ($20 pedi, $10 mani), you get spa-quality treatment: massage chair, bubbly foot soak, paraffin treatment for your hands and feet (in the winter time), hand/arm/leg/foot massages (2x! Once during your paraffin treatment and again before painting your nails), extensive leg and foot scrubs, and you have so many OPI and Essie polishes from which to choose! You will be surprised at how extensive their "regular" mani-pedi is! You would easily pay $45+ for the same treatment elsewhere. They take their time with each client, so DO NOT come here if you're in a rush. Give yourself a couple hours and make an appointment if possible. Additionally, J'aime changes their decor for the holidays and seasons, so it's always festive in there. This place is the fanciest and most well-run nail salon I've ever been to, and considering how well they do their mani-pedis, it's amazing that it costs only $30. This salon used to be my go-to since they have the best basic manicure and pedicure for $30. Last week I decided to pay this spa a visit and boy was I surprised when it came time to pay. That $30 price turned into $42 and like everyone said, there is no difference in services. I believe they added an exfoliating scrub but that shouldn't merit a $12 increase. Like other people have also said, the person that you get can be a real hit or miss. During my last visit I got a Korean woman named Tina who did an awful job. Not only did she not get the polish coating even, but she pretty much painted outside of the box. She kept having to scrape the polish off of my skin and re-apply to the sides of my nails. AWFUL. Overall, I don't think I will be coming back here. I've gotten better pricing and service at Mint Salon & Spa on Newtown (about a block away). It's a great local business! read more

The Woman who did my eyebrow wax ripped the skin off my eyebrows. When I noticed I was told to ask for sensitive skin next time ... It was clear to anyone who saw my face that I was messed up badly. When I went to get my money back I had to argue for cash vs a gift card. Why would I want to come back after that? I should have received much more than my money back with this much damage. Very poor customer service. I was very fond of this place but after this I will no longer be a customer and am really disappointed. I have to go to work looking like I have burns on my eyelids until this heals. Never had an experience like this before. My rating for this place is based on the combination of quality and value for the standard mani + pedi. I have been coming to this nail salon since it opened its doors in 2008. I would say that the quality of their work has always been consistent, with some small porportion of workers being exceptional and the rest being "good". The older ones are always better than the new workers. Intially there were almost all Asian workers here, but they've added more and more Hispanic workers over the years as the Asian ones left from time to time. Like other patrons, I was quite upset by the sudden rise of prices of what's formerly known as their basic mani and pedi that are now called cucumber something "spa mani and pedi". The first pedi I got after the price increase felt EXACTLY like the original basic pedi, and to add insult to injury, the lady who did it tried to sell me some crap like "oh we use cucumber lotion which is very good for the skin". Are you kidding me??? This precious cream was worthy of the $8 increase in the price of the pedi? I think NOT. To be honest, I would have felt my intelligence was less insulted if they had just come out and said that they had to increase the price due to increase in cost of everything these days. But even that cannot justify the 40% increase in price. Very dramatic. In addition, the workers ALWAYS ask "what kind of pedicure today? Spa pedicure?" Well aren't ALL pedicures "spa pedicures" now? Perhaps even workers realized that this new "cucumber" pedi isn't "real" spa pedi. And just to be sure, I went back for a second time after the price increase just to be sure that the pedi is exactly the same as before, and the experience confirmed it. The only difference in mani now compared to before is that they probably lotion your hands one extra time while rubbing cucumber slices on them. Again, I can't fathom this small detail being worthy of a 40% increase in price. However, I would say that the second time around the quality of the work justified the prices much more than the previous time since I had it done by one of the "exceptional workers" here. So, the bottom line is, this place would have gotten a 4 to 4 1/2 star rating before the price increase. But now, since they're calling their basic mani and pedi "spa" mani and pedi, we must evaluate them as such; thus it would be a 3 star when they're being compared to "spa" mani + pedi from other salons. So in this new era of the salon, a mani+pedi by an "average" worker here no longer has the competitive edge, and only when the work is done by an "exceptional' worker is it worthwhile. Sorry, I cannot divulge the names of my "exceptional" workers as that might have implicationg for my future appt needs; just feel the place out for yourself! With this said, what it also means that if none of the good workers is available for my desired appt time in the future, I would be inclined to shop around in the neighborhood whereas in the past 5+ years I have been coming to this owner's salons exclusively (first Eve then J'Aime). This is a shame, and a less than thoughtful business decision on the owner's part. read more

i tried J'Aime for the first time today. It is a huge place and is really clean and nice. It wasn't too crowded and had a calm atmosphere. I had a basic manicure ($10) and pedicure ($20). The prices are a little higher than other salons in the area but they do little extras like put a mask on your legs during the pedicure, paraffin wax on your heels, the massage is a little nicer....the manicure was fine. nothing special. I guess this place is owned by the same people that own Athena nails, but this place is definitely much better. Much bigger, less cramped and crowded. Just moved to the area and wanted to find a good local nail salon. I will not be returning to J'aime Nails after my experience. I understand weekends can be a bit crazy, but it took 2 and a half hours for a manicure/pedicure. I walked out more stressed than i walked in. The manicurist cut my cuticle to short so i was bleeding for a good few minutes. Once she was finished i went for my pedicure, where i was left in a chair with running water for 15 mins. no one came back to check on me, after quite a few attempts to get someones attention, finally someone came to do my pedicure. I got my nails done on a Sunday afternoon, by Tuesday afternoon they have chipped off. i am very disappointed in this nail salon, and i would not suggest this place to anyone. read more

I really hate that I am giving J'aime a bad review. I've been going for 3 years now and thought this would be my place. Sometimes, it's amazing. Lately, however, even with a scheduled appointment, I've been made to wait up to 30 minutes for my treatment to begin. What's the point of making an appointment then? Yesterday my friend and I scheduled mani/pedi/20 minute massage/waxing (aka we were going to spend some cash in there!) After 3 hours all that was accomplished was the mani/pedi. We were told we'd have to wait an ADDITIONAL hour for the massage because the massage therapists had just begun full hour long massages. WTF? On top of that, I didn't even get the 5 minute complimentary massage that comes with the mani/pedi. I was left in the waxing room for over 15 minutes (not an exaggeration) with no information about when I might be seen. Just sitting there, half naked. When we finally decided to just leave we were told that it would be "just 5 more minutes" but you know, after 3 hours I don't have just 5 more minutes. They were unapologetic and did not offer any sort of a discount on services if we came back another day. This place has so much potential, and I have had good experiences there, but after a few visits such as this one I will be looking for another place. And it won't be Athena nails either, since it's the same ownership. Pfft. read more

came here with my friend who lives in astoria, the sunday after a long night of partying. this is the place to come, she said. the best place in astoria. all i have to say is - mani/pedi for $30! good deal! they also give you long gratuitous massages on your hands, arms, legs and feet. the longest massages i have ever gotten while getting a mani/pedi. they also have this super cool wax dip, where you dip your whole hand and elbow into this hot wax, let it harden, then peel off as it moistens your skin. I should have read other reviews before coming here. But the initially nice-looking decor reeled me in. Although I see that some people lucked out here, I also see plenty 1 & 2 star reviews. I should have read the reviews before coming here. When a place has mixed reviews, this usually indicates that there's some inconsistencies. So if I were to ever come back here, I might get great service or it might be quite bad. So, after reading these reviews, I understand why they were written. I can relate. I tried a special manicure, pedicure & aroma-therapy massage package. Started with pedicure: Technician worked slowly. Occasionally stopping to chat w/coworker. In 2 instances, she walked away & came back 10 min later. As I saw her strolling back, she was casually exchanging conversation w coworkers, in a different language. Before my toes got painted, the pedi-tech told me that they'll do my full body massage "now". I asked if I'll get my phone, shoes, etc after. She sarcastically said "No, Tomorrow". Full body massage was in a small cold room. Massage table was against the wall. Masseuse was a nice guy. Shortly into the massage, I told him it was cold. He told the manager it was cold. I heard a noisy heater go on, but 15 minutes later it was cold again. I also noted that there was no aromatherapy. I asked about it. He said he didn't know it was an aromatherapy massage. I told him it was part of a package. He asked why I didn't request it. I told him that I indeed told the manager at the very start. He then said that she didn't tell him. So I told him I'm being charged for it. Then he told me not to pay for aromatherapy since no one told him about it. I bet u can imagine this massage was not relaxing. So I told him I was looking forward to the aromatherapy which I requested at start. Then he said "ok, what do u want; lavender?" I said "ok". He came back. And continued massaging me with some oil that smelled musky & almost like sweat. I asked if he will be using lavender. I didn't understand his response but I heard "almond oil". I asked him why the massage bed was against the wall & due to this he didn't reach everything evenly. He said "this is not our usual massage room; the massage rooms are all booked". He was a nice person. That's all I can say. After massage, the pedi-tech came back. And so did the manager. I let them know it was cold + aroma-therapy miscommunication + massage bed was against the wall. They proceeded to say that it was not the usual room & if it was cold I should have asked for more towels & that the masseuse should have "used his brain" & given me towels. Then the manager proceeded to say how he did know that it was an aromatherapy massage. Finally I politely said I wasn't happy but wanted to finish off the pedi & mani. The pedi finished. Mani next. During mani, I was getting a hand & forearm massage. The nail-tech kept extending my arm out. I asked if it was fine for her to come closer to me b/c it hurts neck & shoulders to keep my arms extended. She ignored & proceeded. I asked again. She sarcastically said she didn't understand me. She called the manager & told me maybe the manager will understand me. I explained to the manager that I asked if the nail-tech can come closer to me so I can relax my arm down. The tech was being sarcastic & uncooperative. I finally said, "I'd like to leave. I'm not happy". The manager offered that someone else finished my manicure. Or to at least finish the manicure since it started. I asked if they would finish the hand massage. The tech sarcastically said no because I'm not happy. I maintained an even tone & I said I definitely wanted to leave. I then asked for my shoes & jacket. The nail tech came back and threw my shoes at me. That was the final straw. I didn't stoop to her level & I maintained a cool head & I wasn't reactive. I did say to the manager, "did u just c that she threw my shoes". The manager seemed like she didn't know which way to turn. She said "sorry I will talk to her. She shouldn't be doing that". I told the manager I wanted to leave. I gave her my credit card & said I only want to pay for the pedicure & massage. I told her I will go somewhere else for my manicure. She proceeded to say I have to pay b/c it's part of the package. I told her I was not happy. And I reminded her that her technician threw my shoes at me. This manager seemed at a loss what to do, but still tried to charge me to include the manicure. I proceeded to say I'm not happy and please charge me only for pedi & massage but I didn't get anything else. What a bad experience overall. It's a nice looking place. I wish they were professional & communicated with one another. And I hope they never throw a customers shoes. read more

I'm sorry to say that although the inside of this nail salon is incredibly clean and nicely decorated, the services offered are over priced. Don't be fooled by the nice decor. I came here for a mani pedi and got duped into getting a spa pedicure which cost me $65. Just for the pedicure. This included a foot massage but the massage wasn't great. I wouldn't have minded paying such a high price if I felt that the treatment warranted it, but it didn't. Never coming back -- $30 for their standard pedicure (wayyy overpriced for Astoria). I was in there for almost 2 hours and the place was empty. When it was time to dry, I put my feet under the drier and one of my toes completed messed up because there was a wire hanging. I showed it to the woman who did my nails and asked her to redo the nail. She insisted that she could fix it without having to remove all of the nail polish. Not sure if she didn't want to take a lot of time redoing the nail.. At that point it had already been almost 2 hours -- what's another 5 minutes? It was pretty dark in there, so from where I was sitting the nail looked like it was okay. When I got home I realized it definitely was not okay. It looked like a terrible patch job. The place closed shortly after I left to go home and I was leaving for vacation the next morning so was forced to go away with a terrible pedicure. I give this place 2 stars but only because the pedicure itself was decent (massage, lotion, etc). For $30 (and two hours of my time) I would have expected my nails to look perfect. If you're looking to have a standard pedicure done ($18-$20), I would not recommend this place. (The option does not exist) read more

This is, hands down, my favorite nail place in the city. They have really high standards for the services, are impeccably clean, professional, and great customer service. I've had numerous manicures and pedicures here, and they're always top notch (the pedicures are some of the longest-lasting...I think one looked good for almost three weeks?). The services seem to include so many extras that I sometimes wonder if I accidentally asked for a spa manicure - paraffin treatments for the hands, a nice mini massage up to the elbows, warming mitts, and some of the technicians will even throw in a shoulder massage. $10 might be a couple bucks more than other places in the area, but it's really worth it. Even at the busiest times, I've never waited for more than a few minutes, although it's significantly better if you can avoid a rush. read more

Some quick tips I can give are if your going on a busy day, like after work time or the weekend, call ahead for an appointment. (especially if your doing a group nail thing). The decor inside is pleasant. Its relaxing and the staff is very friendly and nice. They always took good care of us when ever we went. It is a little more expensive than a usual nail salon but I personally think its worth it. They take time their time to make sure you look good. Just a few things I have to share: Jaime Nails is the BEST nail salon in Astoria! They are super clean, nice, relaxing and RIGHT by the NQ on 30th. Did you also know that the woman who owns Jaime Nails ALSO owns Athena's Nails and Eve's Nails? All within a block apart? Eve's is the most ghetto of the 3, then Athena's (nice, but always super crowded) and then Jaime Nails (you pay the most here). Smart lady. Waxing: Sue and Erika are the BEST! Do not EVER get a waxing, especially bikini from a Mexican girl there. They are NOT licensed and I have heard horror stories from other workers in there about it. That they've ripped skin down there...people complaining...etc. Not cool. Erika waxes only on Wed I believe and Sue is pretty much everyday except Mondays. Trust me, the BEST. Oh, and funny fact: They have an ATM machine in there, so worst case scenario...you can take cash out. Just keep in mind there is a Chase right around the corner by Athena's, so if you have Chase, go there. Why pay the surcharge? So not worth it! That's it! =) Hope this helps you all! read more

I was there for the first time a year ago with my daughter and we had a fabolus experience. So we went back there with the same expectation, and we were very disappointed. My daughter had to soak forever before somebody showed up for her pedicure. My gel French manicure - they charge a fortune for it - started to chip after 2 days. You pay for the decor. J'aime must have realized just how MUCH they were giving away in their basic pedicure since my last visit in July of 2011. When I came in with a friend for a birthday treat to my feet, I learned that the basic pedicure is truly as base as it gets - nothing beyond soaking, trimming, light buffing, slathering of cream and your paint job. Before I became completely dismayed, the technician presented me with a menu of spa pedicures that had an impressive array of treatments. We opted for the Dead Sea Spa Pedicure, as it was all about exfoliating those dry, tough parts and massaging with products containing Dead Sea Salt & Detoxifying minerals. For $60, you get a lengthy foot soak in an algae like mineral bath followed by an application of mineral mud/clay that is tightly wrapped in plastic against the skin of your lower limb. During this time, they also apply an exfoliating enzyme on the areas of the foot that are rougher than most a.k.a your callouses. They also get wrapped in plastic and the "work" begins. You get scrubbed with a Dead Sea salt scrub followed by another tool that pulls off all the newly softened skin from the toes and heels of your feet, thanks to that enzyme. The scrub has essential oils in it, which leave feet very soft, but for even further softening, they also apply paraffin bags, which hydrate any other minute crevices. It's like a mushy warm blanket of love enveloping every inch of your sole!!! Post paraffin comes a 15 minute or so massage of your lower leg and foot, followed by hot towels. By the time our nails were painted and we were allowed to get up, my legs felt like jelly. Complete relaxation and a lingering tingling from the essential oils in the scrub that had a warming affect on the skin. Truly worth every penny and the best way to spend one's birthday.
