The lo mein is the best around -- perfectly balanced, flavorful, and consistently done right. The cream cheese puffs, dipped in both the hot sauce and sweet sauce, are genuinely exceptional. And the Kung Pao chicken is my sweetheart's standing order -- tender, well-seasoned, and never overly heavy. They also have cold beer and a charming, intimate little bar that is ideal for a glass of wine and a bite to eat. It feels relaxed, welcoming, and personal. One detail we especially appreciate: they always send out a small dessert as a gesture of thanks. It's thoughtful and speaks to how much they value their guests. We genuinely love coming here. Placed a pickup order at 3:30 PM for 6:00 PM. When we called at 6, they hadn't even started it. No apology, no explanation--just told us to come back at 8:00 PM instead. We were told by a friend that Jade Fountain had the old school chow mein from my childhood so we wanted to give it a try. We decided instead of getting to go we would just eat in the restaurant. The restaurant is very nicely done. Good ambience. Our server was very friendly and very efficient. It's been a long time since I've had a server box up my leftovers for me and bring it back all tied up in a to-go bag. The food was very very good. I had the Jade special chow mein, which was fresh and delicious. The cream cheese wontons are exceptional. They're light and crispy and just the right amount of cream cheese. They also aren't sweet like some other cream cheese wontons can be. My husband had the Hunan triple and said it was very good. The value is good. We will definitely be going back. read more

We stopped by Jade Fountain for a late Saturday lunch. There was plenty of parking out front, but with several businesses and restaurants sharing this lot it can get pretty full during busier times of day. The menu was full of old school Chinese-American classics. We ordered hot tea, egg rolls, beef with broccoli, and chicken fried rice. Everything we had was good but a little heavy. The egg foo young had egg shells in it And the chicken and shrimp was very soft and mushy I've spent a week in and out of urgent care and the ER trying to get those food out of my system so save yourself and DO NOT EAT HERE. I was the first customer of the day. I did not rush them at all. I went there and the order was wrong and even before I found out the order was wrong. I asked for utensils and she acted like I was asking for her wallet then when I got there a meal for three had three packets of soy sauce, total and one fortune cookie the food was mediocre at best and the chicken wings were cold. We've tried several other Chinese restaurants in the past few years from all over the metro area and Jade is still the best of the 'Americanized' ones. There's been no change in quality over the past 20 years I've been eating here. Rock solid consistency, very good flavors, high quality ingredients. I had to join Yelp to see if the ownership had changed at Jade Fountain recently. First, I am really, really disappointed to learn that it has changed. And, second, I know that I will never go back, let alone recommend it to anyone else. I've been going there for 35 - 40 years. I don't even live in Wayzata or the area. My home is 50 miles away, a one hour drive. I had proudly brought out-of-town family from California there. I took my husband there when we were dating . I took my newly discovered half-brother there. He has taken dates, co-workers, and family there. We met friends there. I got takeout there a number of times. Last night, on my way home from meeting with old neighborhood friends in Mpls/StP, I stopped to pick up my favorite dish from Jade Fountain, Cashew Shrimp. My husband wanted Lemon Chicken. I ordered a total of four egg rolls. It had been awhile, so I was really looking forward to it! The sauce was boring. The cashews were soggy halves and pieces. There was an overabundance of water chestnuts - a lot - like half the container! The shrimp was rubbery. I ended up throwing out the equivalent of a whole container that was made up of mostly water chestnuts, sauce, most of the soggy cashews, and some rice. In the past, I always had enough for two filling meals! The Lemon Chicken was "OK". The coating was doughy and didn't stay on the chicken. We only got one small container, not even half full of sauce, for four egg rolls. The egg rolls were not good at all: bland and 'thick'. The bill came to $69.79 total. $55.80 for the food and $13.99 for sales tax and the extra charge for me to use my credit card. The food was not worth the $55.80, let alone an additional $14 cost! I'm willing to pay for great food, but never again will it be at Jade Fountain. What a shame it is to lose such a gem of what was a truly great Chinese restaurant! read more

So good!! We were staying nearby and searching for places to eat. I saw pictures from here online and it looked amazing, no online ordering available as of now but we walked in and placed an order. This evening we ordered takeout and the food was exceptionally good. Two standout dishes were chicken Szechuan and vegetable foo young. The Szechuan had a delightful freshness and the egg foo young was light and delicious. As for service, the time between placing the phone order and pick up was 15 minutes. I have been eating at Jade Fountain for years, even though it is a 45 minutes drive each way. However, over the last couple of years, food quality has steadily deteriorated. Sadly, my lunch today will be my last time visiting Jade Fountain. The food has descended to unedible. I had the Sesame Chicken, and even if I ignore that the dish was not spicy at all and the rice was stale, it was still a fail. Every piece of the chicken was so tough I could barely chew it. It had to have been WAY overcooked, or reheated in a microwave at least twice before. What was it like? It was like chewing on the toughest piece of beef jerky you have ever encountered. This is our neighborhood go to! We usually go and enjoy a drink while we wait for our food. James and Maki are so sweet and wonderful hosts! They do a crazy amount of take out orders here. The food is always good, hot, and flavorful. They will customize the entrees to your liking too! If you want different veggies or spice levels no problem. We always get beef with garlic sauce, the tiger pork is great along with other spicy dishes. My daughter loves the lo mein, cheese puffs, and egg rolls. Ordered food on Door Dash since no one answered the phone at 5 PM -no busy signal-just rang about 20 times. Door dash receipt in hand but person at desk said they didn't have the order! After being sent to the back of the line, I tried again! She brought out several orders from the kitchen. I told her I wanted my money returned if she didn't have our order! Showed her the receipt from Door Dash again and she said you must get money back from Door Dash! The dine in environment was pleasant. The service was fast and efficient. However the food was just barely okay. The House Shrimp Broccoli dish has very hard stalks of previously frozen broccoli that was impossible to eat. The sauce is a mystery of opaque, flavorless sauce with dried red pepper. We ordered fried dumplings, cream cheese puffs, house lo mein, and sesame chicken. They were all terrible. This is why.... the fried dumplings had so much chewy dough. I wish there was an option to give no stars. Completely HORRID experience! I went here for the second time wanting to give the restaurant a chance, but my experience has been awful. I hate to say this, but the middle aged Asian guy with the glasses at the reception is downright racist and completely rude. I have visited many restaurants where I was surrounded by people sometimes who were all a different ethnicity from me but I never ever felt belittled or treated like garbage. I watched this host politely help other customers (NOTE customers who were ALL Caucasian), greet them, ask what they wanted, and say goodbye and thanked them with the biggest smile on his face. Each time I visited I smiled ready to greet him and even before I could say hello or why I was there and whether I wanted to dine in or get it to go he frowned and shouted "YOU driver go stand outside, you cannot come inside here, I will call you inside when your order is ready to deliver!" Because I looked different from all the other customers in the restaurant he felt it was okay to bite my head off because he thought I was delivering food. I was shocked, I tried to speak up and he yelled and bellowed, "I said wait outside!" before I could could say I was ordering food. Ordered take out for dinner. Went to website and got menu. We ordered pork egg foo young and Szechuan beef. Egg foo young listed at 11.95 and beef Szechuan listed at 13.95. I called and placed the order. She said 15 minutes quickly. I said can you please add hot mustard, hot chili and soy sauce on the side. She said can you hold for a minute, and it was around a minute. I then asked if I could get a total. She said $37.00. I didn't realize what she had just said because she hung up quickly. I then realized it was way off. When I got to the restaurant and asked why it was so much. She listed the prices for the two meals and She said they charged $3.00 for hot mustard and hot chili sauce. It was busy so I just grabbed food and left. Got back to the office. And realized it was still way off, and there were two quarter cups filled mini cups of hot mustard and red flakes with oil (barely any sauce). The egg foo young had barely any pork in it. I then called the restaurant back and said okay, I'm confused at the cost can I please receive an itemized deduction. She said egg foo young is 11.95 and the Szechuan beef was 18.95, and three dollars extra for the sauce. I told her that we just ordered the Szechuan beef a few weeks ago, and it was not that price (that is the price of their king pao beef) and they or anybody else has never charged for hot sauce on the side. Their Szechuan was absolutely flavorless with not spice whatsoever. The size of the cups and amount of hot mustard and chili oil, was so tiny in barely spiced up one dish, and the Szechuan was supposed to have a little heat anyway. I told her we are extremely disappointed and they have lost our business. She said a few times to talk to the owner tomorrow and I'm just an employee. This whole experience made us feel ripped off, like they lied about prices, and the itemized deduction still didn't add up to that price. They've lost our business's business. Their rice is also the worst we've had. Although I personally like their beef flank, again the flavor was extremely lacking. Below are the pics of the $3.00 extra for two cups that were charged. We are in town so we've ordered a handful of time, I have talked to the owner the last few times as she was taking orders, always ask for hot mustard and hot chill sauce on the side.
