Mandarin Yang has great food, orders are made promptly and the food is fresh and delicious

The quality of food at Mandarin Yang has really gone downhill. We ordered from them a couple of months ago and the food was meh. We decided to give it another try, but it was just as bad. We ordered the Tiger Pork (extra spicy) and Beef in Garlic Sauce (spicy), and neither dish had any amount of spice and an overall bland flavor. The Cream Cheese Puffs were cold and the Egg Rolls didn't have any pork and were just filled with bad tasting cabbage. My search for decent Chinese Food in the Minnetonka area continues and I can officially cross Mandarin Yang off my list. read more

Pretty good. This take out only restaurant serves Chinese, and Pad Thai, food roughly analogous to Leann Chin. The portion sizes are generous and they whip up the food really fast. This is not a gourmet Chinese food experience, thus you may want to avoid taking a honored visitor from Shenzhen or Shanghai here, but for the location, price and convenience; it is nice. The honey chicken drumsticks are giant and the sauce is a sweet tooth's dream and prepared quite well. The Pad Thai is a bit spicy and quite adequate. read more

I am always on the hunt for good, authentic Chinese food around the west metro area and decided to give Mandarin Yang a try. We decided to get takeout for dinner - a sesame chicken entree and pork pad Thai. I quite enjoyed the pad thai, but in reading other reviews I'd agree with some points. I found the pad thai very flavorful, but was quite liquid-y as some reviews had mentioned. Still, I enjoyed it! The sesame chicken was certainly a different story. We commonly enjoy sesame chicken from different Chinese restaurants as a classic chicken entree. This version really did taste like ketchup - I'm not sure how else to describe it. It was more red than orange (like wee typically see our sesame chicken), and it had a very tangy, ketchup-like flavor. We only had about 1/4 of it since the taste was a bit off-putting. I'll keep looking for our "go-to" Chinese spot as I don't think this is it, though there may be e some redeeming entrees! read more

I've become a bit Pad Thai obsessed and the Pad Thai at Mandarin Yang was so satisfying. I ordered online for delivery and was pleasantly surprised of the huge portions! The chicken was tender and I loved that the dish had carrots and sautéed onions that added a flavorful crunch. I give Mandarin Yang 5 stars and look forward to exploring their menu further. Picked up takeout, tofu pad thai and BBQ pork egg fu young. The pad thai was terrible. Watery sauce that filled the bottom half of the container, with very little flavor. Egg fu young wasn't great either, the gravy was bland and gloppy. We will not return. read more

Mandarin Yang is the most consistent take out place - the food is always ready fast, hot, and tastes exactly like you think it will. Not to mention that they are one of the only places that does good egg foo young. This is our weekly Friday night delight. read more

Meh! I've been looking for great egg foo yung for years since the Hot Wok in Edina closed... Mandarine's is not it. Not even a close third. I also had triple kung pao. Meh again. The gravy for the foo yung was like bad American gravy...thick, colorless and heavy, lacking flavor. The patties were just dense globs of eggs with onion, no caramelization. I had veggie egg foo, the veggies were plopped in the bottom of the box - not made with the egg, no bean sprouts either. Blah! The beef was good though in the kung pao. As always, amazing! The vegetable are fresh and crunchy not overcooked (which is something I care about as a dad). The sauces are not just one dimensional, nor is the dish swimming in sauce. Instead the sauces are flavorful without overpowering what you are trying to taste. The dishes are each unique instead of all blending into one taste profile. You get PLENTY of the protein you choose (even the shrimp) and the food is hot and the rice is fluffy. No, most of the dishes are not "traditional" but that is not what you are looking for when you come here. This is great local Chinese food with great service. Some of the best Chinese food in the area. We especially recommend: sweet and sour chicken, sesame chicken, chicken fried rice, and veggie lo mein. The chicken is good quality and there is never a feeling of cheap mystery meat. You will not regret getting take out from this place! read more

Finally, a Chinese restaurant that knows what the word Vegan means! It was so nice to not have to explain that fish sauce and oyster sauce aren't vegan. I got the tofu with vegetables and the sauce was lighter and less corn-starchy than most places I get take-out from. The vegetables seemed fresher, too. While the tofu was definitely fried (yum) it wasn't fried to total death. The service was pretty good. I haven't found a Chinese restaurant with an actual dining room in ages, so that was fun and something different. There was a huge family dining there that night and seemed to be celebrating a birthday, which leads me to believe it's a special place to them. I'll definitely be back! read more

I have never been disappointed! As a vegetarian, they're always able to make something spicy, delicious and with tofu or mock duck! Pretty quick and they always get the order correct! Probably one of the best wontons out that far in the burbs! I just wish they stayed open a little later read more

When compared to other Chinese Restaurants where you basically know what you're going to get (read: low expectations), Mandarin Yang comes in at four stars. Do they really deserve a rating this high? Maybe not, but they are a cut above other strip mall Chinese restaurants, all of which have very similar menus, sauces, mains, noodles, etc. What I did notice immediately was that their food was quite fresh. I had the szechwan duck, and it was very solid with very fresh vegetables and excellent duck. Don't worry about the spice being too much, this is Minnesota after all. The szechwan duck was marked as spicy, but it really didn't even come close to being too hot. Long story short, when I'm in the mood for casual Chinese food, this will be my first choice. I love this place, it's my go-to for Chinese food when I'm living in the area. Even when I lived in uptown a few years ago, I would make the drive out to get their food! My usual order is the Sesame Tofu, no crispy rice noodles (they tend to get soggy with all the sauce on them) and a side of white rice. Sometimes I add veggies to the order because it lacks some freshness. The sauce is SO GOOD. It's on the sweet side and it isn't spicy at all, so ask for it "spicy" if you want a little kick. The lo mien has also been one of my favorites. 95% of the time I do take out, I've eaten in the restaurant maybe twice? Service is attentive and quick, and everyone is friendly. I love that the area has a little hidden gem like this, I will definitely continue to order take out for the time I'm here. I suggest you check it out! read more

COVID-19 UPDATE. I'll start off with the order pick up process. 5 stars for how they have adapted. You order and pay online. They give you a time that the food will be ready. You show up and pick your bag up in their foyer. Super easy and felt safe. And everything we ordered was fulfilled. Now, the food is not authentic Chinese. That being said, it is really good American Chinese. Cheese Wontons are always a great start. They have really good chicken wings. Our kids love the chicken lo mein. General Tso's chicken is a favorite. I like the beef in garlic sauce. This last order had plenty of beef with the right amount of vegetables. This place always satisfies the Chinese take-out craving. I can't tell you how happy I am that Mandarin Yang is in my neighborhood! Do you like Cream Cheese Puffs? OMG! These CC Puffs are amazing! They are light and flavorful and the sauce that comes with them compliments them so well. I have to order them first before I order anything else. I love the House Chow Mein with Chicken, Beef w Pea Pods, Lemon Chicken, Tiger Pork - it's all such comfort food to me. I grew up in Minnesota and for birthdays and special events the whole family would go to Mandarin Yang. After 20 years, it still seems to be the same (which is great). I lived in Washington for 10 years and just moved back. After trying maybe 10 different "Chinese" places in the area I couldn't find a halfway decent place. Well, Mandarin Yang is really high quality. That said, I do have some complaints. First, the portion sizes were extremely small. Literally less than half of what I would expect for an $11+ dish. That was a huge disappointment. However, we went on Tuesday night. I'm pretty convinced that these type of places will buy less ingredients during the week when it tends to be a lot slower, then stock up on the weekend to have enough for the busy flow of customers. So, I would probably want to try going on friday-sunday and see if the portion sizes improve. If they don't, I don't think it would be worth it to pay a premium for such a small amount. Second, the brown rice was like the boil in a bag stuff you'd find in a box at the grocery store. It seemed odd they didn't have a genuine fried rice option to come with dishes like most places do. read more

This place is a little hard to find,hidden behind a gas station on the corner of 101 and mtka blvd. there had been some rumors, among family friends, that the original creator of the genius tea house tiger pork is cooking here now or did. i dont know if i understood things right, but from what i got, this place wrote the book on the tiger pork and also sesame beef. it had some serious promise. the menus is big and good. there were only three of us, so limited on what we could try. i prefer the tea house tiger pork, but this one wasnt bad. the sesame beef was pretty good though seemingly bathed in msg and the broccoli mushroom dish would have been even better with some more spice. the sampler appetizer was too fried and boring and doesnt mesh with the mustard sauce or the other booger looking sauce, but not bad with the sweet and sour, which you need to ask for. i think this place would be worth a visit, but go with a big group so you can try a lot. i have the feeling that there could be a couple ridiculously amazing items on the menu but someones got to find them. beware that the waiter will check on you 43 times and will ask "how are you enjoying your food." and also that he and his entire family/entire staff may sit down for their own meal while you eat yours. its homey. read more

This is a review of the buffet, not an experience ordering from the menu. At $7.95 the buffet is a steal. There is a nice assortment of traditional Chinese dishes to choose from as well as steamed and fried rice. Condiments such as duck sauce and mustard are on a shelf by the stack of plates. Love that there were lots of veggies to help balance out the meal. The all too frequent downfall of Chinese food - the thick, goopy sauce was nowhere to be found. The vietnamese egg roll was very tasty and not the least bit greasy. My only criticisms are the volume of egg in the hot and sour soup made it almost too chewy and the parking is in short supply. Definitely will return for another pass at the buffet. read more

Hidden Gem! What a great find in my own neighborhood. The ingredients are fresh and high quality. We ordered off the menu. Sweet and Sour Chicken: Large portions of tender juicy white meat with a crispy coating. Mongolian Beef: My only complaint about this flavorful dish is that it could have been more spicy. Fried Rice: Stupendous! Atmosphere is typical and homey! Not that of a high end Asian restaurant but of a neighborhood haunt. It was very clear that they do a wonderful take-out business. Be careful what you order here! We ordered takeout: sesame chicken, cream cheese puffs, vegetable fried rice, chicken pad Thai, and tofu pad Thai. I do not recommend the pad Thai at all. It was flavorless, the tofu was a gross texture, the chicken was slimy/rubbery. The fried rice was good and had nice pieces of fresh vegetables. The sesame chicken didn't have great flavor but was nice white meat chicken. Cream cheese puffs were light and tasted good. This food was terrible! The pork egg foo yung had the consistency of a dumpling (and had no egg flavor at all) with pork scattered on top. The sauce was thick and gummy and had no flavor. I also ordered Mandarin Chicken which I was told had baby corn in the vegetable medly and is a bit spicy. Neither one of these statements was true. This dish had a sauce that tasted like a store bought something. Only salty..no flavor! I am sorry I have leftovers. I don't even want them! read more

She is an absolute sweetheart and so kind. My order was taking a bit longer than usual and she noticed that I was still waiting outside for my food. Mandrin Yang isn't open except pick up.. They continue to keep the shut down going. When you call in a order expect to be treated like you are not welcome. I explained my husband is in his 80s and we prefer to order on the phone. The owner said this is the last time I'll do this. She said she doesn't care if Waltz allows people to pay in person she isn't allowing anyone in her store. The food was okay. However, keep in mind how they would treat anyone elderly. Customer Service is important to me. She basically said since you're too old to go on line and order, dont come back. read more
