Being a campus type of business that caters to mainly college students, the boba was decent. Not the best but not the worst. I like how transparent they are when it comes to how many grams of matcha is used per drink. Lots of seating and parking can be hit or miss. service was really great and interior settings was dark but pleasant.

The cutest shop in a little strip mall serving up the best hand whisked banana matcha lattes. You have to check it out. Such chill service. Seating inside but none outside!

A cute little cafe located right next to SFSU that has both coffee and matcha for everyone. I've tried them through DoorDash and going in person and I can say their drink quality stays the same for both. Unfortunately, the last time I went I felt like the matcha taste was too strong for my liking but my wife loves their drinks. Drinks come out fast and the baristas are super nice. If I need a quick pick me up this place would definitely be up for consideration

Was looking for Vietnamese inspired coffee like Da Vien in SoCal and stumbled across Jade and Java. What drew me was the banana and sesame Vietnamese coffee, which isn't something sold at most coffee and boba shops in the peninsula. Ordered the pistachio and sesame Vietnamese coffee. The coffee is strong! Can customize ice and sweetness levels too. Parking can be a bit tight as the lot is shared among many other shops and it's in the middle of Park Merced so can be a bit difficult to find. Ordering was a breeze and if you have Snackpass, you can earn rewards by continuing to shop there. At 7-7.50 a drink, it's about in line with other boba/drinks now so I think it's good value. Especially bc the coffee is strong! Will come back to try other coffees and their matcha drinks too. Matcha drinks look to be handmade upon ordering (not mass produced ahead of time, which is nice to see)

I've tried their drinks multiple times, but it's my first time visiting their actual location. I really really love their matcha here. The ratio of matcha to the other ingredients is perfectly curated to my taste. It doesn't taste like grass LOL. The banana cream matcha is mt favorite. Nothing too special with the ambiance inside. Overall, this is one of my go-to matcha spots.

Cute little cafe with a kiosk self ordering system First time coming to try them out and both my friend and I ordered the banana latte and another drink. The banana latte was absolutely AMAZING. I'm sure they use real bananas when making the milk that goes into it. It was delicious and worth a second trip! I ordered the cocomango (I think that's what it was called) and brought it home to enjoy later. Of course... amazing as well I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area to come visit.

Very cute little coffee shop near the SFSU campus, and open late, until 7 PM! They specialize in Vietnamese coffee and matcha drinks with unique cream toppings, and also have some fruit tea options. You order at one of two kiosks in the front. There are small tables and a bench for seating, and a bathroom in the back. I could see this being a nice place to catch up with friends over drinks! I got a banana cream matcha with oat milk ($0.80) and an extra shot of matcha ($3). Everyone else got Vietnamese coffee and between all of us we tried the salted cream, banana cream, and black sesame cream coffees. I loved my matcha and the banana cream had such strong banana flavor. I'm not sure if I would've liked it as much without the additional shot of matcha, but I'll have to try it next time. I also thought it was a pretty reasonable price for a matcha latte, starting at $7.25 - some places are getting up to $10+. I'm not a coffee person, but heard that the coffees were strong and flavorful. Seems like a really nice addition to the area, especially for students. Would be even better if they could partner with a local bakery to offer some pastries, and a few more non-caffeinated options since there's only one on the current menu.

Ordered a matcha with a banana cream topping. It was pretty tasty - I haven't had too many like this so I don't have a ton of comparisons, but I would come back for another. Service was friendly and they have a nice clean bathroom. Located in a strip mall close to SFSU so lots of parking.

I really enjoyed their sea salt Vietnamese coffee (ca phe muoi). I have been looking for this since coming back from my Vietnam trip. It's easily found in Orange County; less of a common offering in SF Bay Area, so I was happy to see that this place had it. I got one with less ice and regular sweetness, which I thought was too sweet but was better after the ice melted a bit. I also got one no ice and less sweet and I added some milk when I got home to thin out the strong coffee a bit. However, this sacrifices on the salted flavor. I think my ideal would be regular sweet and regular ice as intended. We also tried their creme brulee matcha which was fine. Not a super strong matcha flavor and leaned more watery than creamy. It would appease if you had a craving for a matcha latte though. Could not really make out the creme brulee flavor so I would maybe just do a regular matcha latte or another one of their flavored matcha drinks. This is located near SF state. There is a parking lot available. Somewhat limited seating, but I'm not sure how busy they get.

Such a cute cafe along the string of other stores in a plaza! I ordered the Banana Matcha Latte which was delish! I'm glad that there were actual banana chunks in the drink which gave the drink a nice additional texture. The foam of the latte was also perfectly frothed. Service was quick and the store was clean. Will definitely be back to try their other drinks!

I've been here twice within the span of a week! I love how Jade & Java is a straightforward cafe that delivers on their drinks while also having a cute, unique aesthetic. I ordered the black sesame matcha both times I went...the black sesame cream top is just too delicious! It does make the drink more creamy for those who prefer something less of that. I took a sip of their vietnamese coffee and that tastes great as well, I would definitely order that in the future. Service was friendly and fast. I really like the car/minimal decor they have going on in there with the natural lightning and plants. It's located in a plaza so there's convenient parking available.

Didn't feel like coffee or matcha today, so I went for their mancoco. It was as if I was drinking a mango melona! I'm not sure how they achieved this, but its good if you like melona. Seems like a good drink to use for cocktails haha read more

Stumbled across this cafe near SF state. The interior is pretty cute, decorated with greenery and there's many tables to sit at (could be a study spot). There's an automated kiosk that you can place your order at. We got the: - strawberry sunsetski : mango tea and strawberry puree - strawberry matcha : I got the less sweet option with oat milk. It didn't taste too authentic or strong in terms of Matcha flavor. Additionally, the strawberry purée on the bottom just tasted like muddled strawberries. Points for fresh strawberries but the two didn't taste well integrated to me - passionfruit orange: nothing crazy, tasted like watered down sweetened orange juice If I could give the shop 3.5 stars out of 5, that's what my rating would be. I think for the options offered in this area, it's a nice addition. In terms of drink taste and price point, I would probably look elsewhere. read more

We ordered the strawberry matcha and the slated cream top matcha. Both were very solid and not very sweet (which is my preference). They allow sweetness adjustments so if you want it to be sweeter you could totally do that. Mad props to the store for using real strawberry for their matcha. When you drink it, you get a good amount of chunks. The salted cream top was my favorite out of the two and I would definitely get that again. read more

Came here during their grand opening and was very impressed with the ambiance and aesthetic. There's iPads for self-service ordering, but the staff is still very attentive, friendly, and welcoming. I was beyond satisfied with my strawberry matcha. You can tell from the first sip that they only use quality ingredients. Fair pricing for quality and size of the drink. This is definitely a place where you can hang out too, there's bar tables and lounge chairs. Plus their music playlist is great. A great location for students. They also serve some snacks and desserts. I'll definitely be stopping by again whenever I'm in the area! read more

Jade and java is a great spot for exclusively Vietnamese coffee with a twist that the Peninsula has lacked for quite some time. Between blue bottle and all the rest, we have plenty of European style coffees...almost too much to choose from. However, for years the Vietnamese coffee seen has been relegated to whatever you can find at your local Pho place . Anything else would be have you driving all the way to San Jose. Not anymore! We ordered the black sesame cream coffee. Between the rich coffee flavor and subtle black sesame cream it made a delicious combination we haven't had elsewhere. My only gripe was that it could use more cream. Definitely looking forward to my return and sampling the other coffees. read more

I recently ordered a DoorDash from here and their delivery system is great, special bags so the drinks don't fall over, sealed cups to avoid spilling, very thoughtful to give the best experience. The crème brûlée Vietnamese coffee was the first thing I tried and I will be back, it was delicious! Definitely craving worthy! read more

We decided to get 3 different drinks here to see the range of how good their offerings were. The three drinks we got were the Banana dream, Salted cream matcha, and the O.G Vietnamese coffee. The best drink was the Vietnamese coffee! It was both strong and perfectly sweet. I wish we had gotten 2 of these! Unfortunately the other two drinks were not the best. The banana dream had a strong jasmine flavor but the banana tasted artificial which clashed with how strong the tea was. The normal sugar level in this drink is also a bit too sweet as well. I think this drink can be good, there just needs to be tweaking to the recipe. The matcha was our least favorite. The foam was very thin and tasted okay. It was different from other foams I've had. I'm not sure if this is a different foam than a cheese foam but this one is strictly savory. The matcha itself did have a weird flavor. It did end up tasting like seaweed a bit. This could be due to the salted cream + matcha mixing, creating a savory drink = an unexpected flavor profile. I really wanted to like this one! This spot has kind staff, great ideas and good coffee. I do hope that they can revisit some of the recipes or have more consistency with how the drinks are being made. If you're coming here the coffee is the way to go! read more

Matcha was perf, banana cream was fresh and didn't have artificial banana taste: 9.5/10. Pricey? Yes, but enjoyed my drink so it was worth it. Will be coming back to try the crème brûlée matcha or even one of the coffee drinks. Overall is a nice space with comfy chairs, wifi, bathroom, and nice ambiance, but failed to find any outlets for longer lock in sessions :( read more

Y'allllll this was the BEST banana matcha I've tried so far! I rated it a 9/10 (I wish they offered lactaid milk instead of oat or other substitute)!! My friend rated her strawberry matcha 8/10, she liked it just didn't like that it was strawberry puree. Service was superb, barista was super nice and even guided me on how to make the banana foam at home so good. This is more of a spot where you get your matcha and go, they do have 3 tables inside but it's not giving a cafe you work and study at. So happy that there's finally a good matcha spot on this side of town in SF! Must try! read more

Would love to give this place 5 stars but their business hours are terrible. This location is in need of a morning coffee spot but they don't open until 930am which forces us to bring our business elsewhere. However if you get a chance to swing by their coffee is good with a variety of flavors. Their prices are on the high side but when you visit 1-2x year it will be worth it. read more

Finally a place in San Francisco that has matcha with banana cream. It is SO GOOD. I've also tried the Vietnamese coffee with salted cream that is similar to the salted coffee from phin cafe in the South Bay. Warning that the coffee is strong but that's exactly how I like it. I'm so excited to have a place like this so I don't have to drive down to SJ. I wish they were open earlier than 11am. read more

Don't sleep on this place! Tried it today and was not disappointed with my drink. We got the crème brûlée matcha and black sesame latte. We ordered it less sweet and it was just right. The matcha flavor was strong and not watered down. Definitely a good mouthful of a sip that left me wanting more. Will definitely be back to try their other drinks. read more

I rarely leave reviews, but this place was honestly disappointing. If you're looking for something that tastes mostly like milk and sugar, you might enjoy it. As someone who's tried a lot of matcha spots, this was easily one of the worst I've had. There was no umami flavor at all., just plain sweetness. The syrup was good, the ambiance was cute, and the service was great, so it's not all bad. Unfortunately, the matcha itself was the letdown. I haven't tried their coffee, but I wouldn't come back for the matcha again. read more

Happy to see a new drink place open up where I frequently go to get my brows touch up. It's nice to see something new in this plaza. Bonus that they have lots of matcha and coffee drinks! Two of my favorites but with the variety hard for me to choose which also means I have to come back often to try all of them. I ordered a black sesame matcha for my first drink and the drink came out quick with a friendly greeting. Not too sweet just the way I like it with the perfect amount of black sesame and matcha flavors. The cafe was nice and clean but I didn't have time to stay. I'll be back to try something else next time. read more

Service was above and beyond. The staff were very kind and welcoming. They were sufficient with making the drinks and ensured that if we needed any adjustments, to let them know. We tried the banana matcha, banana coffee, lavender matcha and coconut matcha. All of them had a great balance between the base and additional flavor. My personal favorite was the banana coffee as I like it strong with a hint of sweet. I would've loved a place like this for when I went to school here! read more

The strawberry matcha was soooo good, perfectly balance, not too sweet. The customer service is what stood out to me the most, I'm super indecisive and I couldn't make up my mind so I asked for a recommendation. This has been the go to spot since it opened! The matcha is great! You can definitely taste the matcha even with the toppings. Recently tried the Vietnamese coffee and that too didn't disappoint! Honestly don't ever want to see this place go, I would literally cry! It's so close to my house and it's actually good, couldn't ask for any thing better. Also the wait time for the drinks is crazy short! Highly highly recommend! read more

Came in with another person, after we ordered and sat down, they made a sly remark like "idk why 2 people just come in and order 4 drinks". Comments like this make the experience uncomfortable as a whole. Secondly their matcha quality definitely isn't as high as other spots. read more

We went during soft opening and tried their Classic Matcha and Pink Velvet (both are regular sweetness). Their matcha had the perfect amount of sweetness, which I loved. The Pink Velvet was more on the sweeter side, but lacked the tea flavor. Overall, everyone was super nice and I would definitely come back! read more

I was visiting the city and stumbled upon Jade & Java near SFSU -- and wow, what a hidden gem! I decided to stop by on a whim and tried their ManCoCo, Banana Cream, and Salt Cream Viet Coffee, and let me tell you... I'M HOOKED. Each drink was seriously next-level -- rich, creamy, and full of flavor. Probably one of the best experiences I've ever had. If you're anywhere near SFSU, do yourself a favor and stop by. I ordered a strawberry matcha, and I will say the matcha flavor was very good. Even the strawberry puree was tasty, from the small about that was in the matcha. I would say to add more of the puree as there was barely any strawberry puree as you can see in the picture. read more

Went on the first day of their soft opening both owners of the shop were chill and very attentive. Loved the front and interior of the boba shop. The drinks were pretty good but I wish there were more milk tea options. Overall I would come back to this place! read more

Banana matcha 10/10. Made with real bananas not just banana flavor or banana milk. The match itself is really good too. Not overly sweet. I've tried a few different spots for the popular banana matcha and this place is the best so far. read more

Like everywhere else in SF, you have to pay for street parking but it's free after 6pm! The vibes inside are of a typical coffee shop and there is a good amount of tables and seats! The barista makes each drink one at a time, so it could take a while to order and get your drinks, but it just shows that they are very intentional with their drinks! I was super excited to find out that Ballast Coffee is actually a Filipino coffee shop that serves Barako Coffee, which I believe they source from the Philippines. They also sell barako bean roast blends for $20 in case you wanted to make it at home! Since they use Filipino barako beans, I had to order their Ube iced latte and Ube hot chocolate! The coffee had a slightly fruity yet chocolatey undertone that made it really delicious with the Ube! I do think that the coffee had a lighter taste to it, so it let the ube taste stand out more. My favorite was the Ube hot chocolate because it was super decadent and warming! I'll definitely be back at Ballast Coffee to study more and to also try their Ube Mocha as well as other drinks!

There are 15 tables and plenty of seating including several outside but given the May gray day I cozyed under a poster of famous Mexican artist Frieda to drink my Mexican Mocha today. They used a strawberry cream top instead of a puree, which I actually enjoyed. It added a nice creaminess to the drink, and the matcha was very smooth and strong. It worked well together. I also tried their double hojicha, and while I enjoyed how nutty and strong the hojicha was, I did find it a little bit grainy. I wish it was a little smoother like the matcha was. I usually don't drink/like coffee, but the guava cold brew sounded so interesting I couldn't resist. The fruity jasmine tea somehow paired so well with the coffee and made it a nice refreshing drink. I was also lucky enough to try the matcha crepe cake, which I believe they get from Lady M. It had really nice layers and was light, but unfortunately it was a little too sweet for me. Overall a very solid matcha/coffee option in SF. They have a beautiful interior too, perfect for catching up with friends. Servers were sweet as well!

This is hands down one of the best coffee shops around! The atmosphere is perfect for hanging out with friends, relaxing, or even pulling up with some cars to chill. The coffee and service are always top-notch, and you can tell the people here truly care about creating a welcoming vibe. I also want to clear something up, there have been some negative rumors floating around about racism, and let me say from my own experience: that is completely false. The owner is one of the kindest people I've met, and Calvin is just as genuine. They always treat everyone with respect and go out of their way to make people feel comfortable. If you're looking for a place with great drinks, good people, and a fun, friendly environment, this is it. Banana cream matcha: 4/5 This thick and creamy matcha was delicious. It's definitely more decadent so if you're looking for something more light and refreshing there are other options. The matcha flavor is strong and I like my matchas to be sweet and this was perfect! Coconut Matcha 5/5: The literal best matcha of my life. The coconut flavor was delicious and not overpowering. The strawberry matcha was tasty, but there are good varieties from matchas, coffee, and teas. If you're a car person, and enjoy meeting people from the car community this is also a nice spot. Especially in the city where places like this, is lacking Side note: Rather than taking responsibly for her incompetence, sounds like a disgruntled ex-employee left a review claiming racism by the employer. The owners, Amy and Calvin (and family) are very welcoming. I came to visit with a friend and my boyfriend during opening, and we immediately looked at each other like, "yo this is fire". They tried the strawberry matcha, and I tried the lavender matcha. They went for seconds, it was THAT good. Service is very warm and welcoming, as well as the vibes in the cafe. Comfy seats, warm atmosphere, and super cool decor. I'm so happy you guys were my first matcha spot EVER! Will be coming back every so often with our friends. I love this place because Amy and Calvin make you feel very welcome to their cafe. I met them so many times and glad to call them friends. Their drinks are delicious I will need to try their latte soon. read more
