Jacques was an experience. We initially wanted ice cream and choose Jacques over the other ice cream parlor, two doors down. When we tried to order the ice cream we were told we needed to pay at the other cashier first which was odd and lead to a lot of confusion. It also led us to purchasing a cookie as it was right in front of us. For the ice cream we got the 'cookie dough' and 'chocolate' ice cream. To be honest the cookie was actually the best part. It was delicious! The cookie dough ice cream was vanilla with pieces of cookies in it. The place was cute and had great music. read more

What a cute little find near the BK Bridge Park and the perfect fix to a cold day would ultimately be a hot chocolate...and how did I get so LUCKY?! ...Easter is near, we walk in and was greeted by chocolate dipped peeps, never ending chocolate bunnys, and chocolate easter eggs! You tell me I am supposed to fast during LENT? Well, was it a SIN to be SEDUCED into a chocolatier? Yes and yes @_@...I guess the worst part was I order a Wicked Hot Chocolate (the one with the chili pepper to add a kick).... I did leave feeling a little more wicked than usual..Muahahaha! read more

Really not much to say other than SWEET. TRUE. LOVE. One would think a place like this would break the bank, but it won't. Prices are surprisingly reasonable. Don't think about the fat/calories and get three scoops so you can try three kinds. Also get an ice cream sandwich. Then walk to the park. Wash, rinse, repeat. read more

The employees here suck - I was standing around for literally 10 minutes waiting for several passing employees to acknowledge my existence - but even the crappy service can't impact the 5 star worthiness of the mind blowing wicked hot chocolate. Usually, I think of hot chocolate as a waste of sugar and dessert calories that would be better expended on a satisfying cookie or piece of cake, but this hot chocolate was something else. Molten, rich, thick chocolate with a kick and served at lava temperature. In my fervor to drink down the decadence, the chocolate lava burned my tongue and entire windpipe goin' down. But that did not stop me. Oh no . . . I guzzled that hot chocolate down in about 5 minutes. Dessert in and of itself. read more

gloglogllglgoglgoglgog. That's the noise I make when I eat his chocolate. I had a bite of the chocolate chip cookie and a sip of the hot chocolate and it was PLENTY! So rich it'll fix your chocolate craving for days, even if you're fiening for it, which I never do. But because I'm not a big fan of chocolate, having Jaques Torres' tells me how to separate the good from the bad and this guy is the best. If you're getting the hot chocolate, get the small one and share it becaue it's basically melted dark chocolate with a splash of milk. Phew, it is intense. But very very very good. read more

Prepare yourself for months. Go in the summer. Buy an Ice Cream sandwich, and prepare to be blasted into another sugary dimension. Two Chocolate chip cookies with a solid 2-3 inches of ice cream between them. The ice cream comes in many flavors besides Vanilla, btw. I could only destroy half with a friend. I will keep training. read more

I came for the chocolate chip cookies as seen on tv and various YouTube videos. And boy they did not disappoint, although I was hoping for a thicker cookie for some extra chew. The chocolate used is some next level as to be expected from a chocolatier. Had a sample of their Indian hot chocolate which reminded me of horchata. All around great experience. read more

I love this ice cream store. It tastes wonderful. I got the Pistacio Marzipan ice cream and it was sublime. It was subtle hints of pistacio and marzipan in a waffle cone. And, the cone was no additional cost. The price was pretty reasonably for one cone at $3.30. The little shop itself has a couple of chairs and marble topped tables which makes for a better experience. This beats the Brooklyn Ice Cream factory in the options of chocolate. They had all these chocolate options and ice cream sandwiches. read more

Unfortunately, we never got to even try the offerings here. While there were no other patrons in the shop, the two employees behind the counter could not be bothered to even look up, make eye contact, let alone talk to us. This went on for several minutes before we decided to take our business someplace else. We did have a chance to look at the chocolates on display and they looked normal for an upscale chocolate place. But wouldn't it have been nice to actually try them? Advice to the owner: Maybe hire some sales people who actually enjoy interacting with your customers. read more

The prices may scare off a lot of people from this little gem, but the quality of the chocolate surpasses any uneasiness of purchasing your treats. I've had this chocolate for years now because of my dad bringing it home for valentines day. I've always loved Jacques Torres and his passion and love for chocolate and it really shines through his end results. Quality of chocolate is top notch creamy and smooth. I got a simple Easter egg on a stick which was a homemade marshmallow covered in milk chocolate with peanut butter. Worth every cent and calorie. Stop in and get something. And enjoy it in all of its chocolatey glory. read more

This is a review for there ice cream. I ALWAYS, always get the cookies and cream where ever I go. My friends always make fun of me and ask me why I sample the ice cream even though I'm going to get it. Well, now I can tell them this story. I sampled the cookies and cream and it was probably one of the worst ice creams I've ever tried. I do not know if it was just an off day, but it did not taste good at all. I am glad they let me sample because I did not go through with the purchase. It was the first time I came to a shop with the intention of buying ice cream and left without it. read more

I think I got played...by Giada DeLaurentiis. I saw the wicked hot chocolate on 'The Best Thing I Ever Ate' on the food network so the boyfriend and I decided to grab a cup for out 1.5 hour wait outside Grimaldis. It is pricey. Damn. The large is quite small. Damn. The taste is nothing special. Damn. And my boyfriend kept wondering where the fresh whipped cream came into play that we saw on that episode. Other than that, we got two small pieces of the milk and dark chocolate bark and the total was like $15? Ouch. I tasted some...not too great to me so I left it for him. But hey! At least the hot chocolate kept me warm for a good half an hour outside. read more

Hidden gem in DUMBO. Stepping inside is like stepping inside of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory; the smell of chocolate is intoxicating. Large select of specialty chocolates are available both by the pound (so you can treat yourself to chocolate or two) and prepackaged in seasonal packaging (apple-shaped boxes in the fall, winter holiday themed and snowflake motifs in Dec). Don't miss the baked goods or the hot chocolate and espresso bar either, particular in the colder months. A couple of tiny tables provide a cozy spot to sit and enjoy one of their decadent, rich hot chocolates or a well-brewed latte and a chocolate chip or peanut butter chip cookie. Not the cheapest but on par with lesser stores like Godiva, so definitely worth a stop if you're in DUMBO. Particular favorites include the chocolate covered orange peel pieces and simple but delicious chocolate-covered cheerios. Looking forward to warmer weather so I can try the ice cream! read more

One scoop of coconut + one scoop of pineappe + a waffle cone = a giggly, happy dancin' Megs My boyfriend's only complaint was that they used 2% milk to make his pistacio shake rather than whole. But, you know, he's a 500lb man deep down. read more

Remember, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Remember Willy Wonka? When I was growing up I wanted to be him, yes a crazy loon, A half-wit, half-twit, dreamer of dreams, despiser of children, so much he held each child in contempt as he scornfully watched them die! Yes, This is my childhood hero! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sz9jc5blzRM If you're a chocolateer or lover, or even allergic to chocolate and just love the smell! YOU NEED TO definitely to make it here! From the Chocolate chip cookies to the "Wicked" which is their "spicy" hot chocolate. The chocolate chip cookie is Big Both a bit overwhelming, but great for your chocolate fixes. Jacques Torres Chocolate is committed to creating fresh, authentic and handmade artisan chocolates for all using all natural ingredients of the highest quality, honeys and brown sugars and refined cocoas. Why did it take so long for me to visit this place? Oh, that's right I want to make sure my hips don't lie. That freaking mudpie cookie was like a bite of heaven especially since they warm that sucker up. It might as well be a lava cookie. I've had better hot chocolate but I'd go back for more cookies. I wanted ice cream. I knew Jacques Torres just opened this place, so of course I had to try it. They have frozen yogurt. Plain frozen yogurt, but they don't tell you that. When I asked what kind they had, the girl behind the counter tried to explain that it's yogurt that's been frozen. The guy behind the counter gave me a dirty look and said fiercely, "It's just yogurt!" Huh? Finally I realized the flavor is PLAIN. Why didn't they just say that? Geez. Instead of offering me a recommendation (like something with Jacques Torres chocolate in it), the two continued their inside conversation. The nerve! I got a vanilla ice cream sandwich with Jacques Torres chocolate in it. It was okay. I'd rather get my own ice cream and break pieces of Jacques' famous chocolate in it. read more

I like Jacques Torres chocolate, so I love to share with friends, my favorite gift is dark chocolate small box, so I used to buying then for birthday's gift. Last Friday August 4 I had a very disappointment experience at Jacques Torres Grand Central store after the 4 small boxes I requested were in a JT plastic bags, I tried to insert my credit card chip in the device, to pay for it, the clerk told me no to, she swipe in her tablet instead, it looked odd to me, I requested a receipt, she said I wont have one, gave me your e-mail address and I send to you. Of course I cancel the transaction, she must ask me before she decides she will not give me a receipt, she assumes I will agree to give her my email address. So be aware how rude and inconsiderate they are in Grand Central store. For my part I wont buy anything from Jack Torres again, it plenty of excellent places where they ask you and informed you, options of payments. read more

When I had some sort of income, I'd go down to JTC for some hot chocolate and a sweet treat. I've also purchased a bunch of larger chocolate items for gifts (a big high heel shoe, tennis racquet, bears, hearts, etc.). That said, I've spent a good amount of money here. I don't see the hoopla. Yeah, the chocolate is good...but you're paying for it. Yes, its fresh...but...you're also paying for that too. Is it so phenomenal that you'd stop eating Godiva and save all your money for JTC? Nah. This place gets 3 stars because its not uber special to require a trip down to Dumbo for chocolate. (If you're on a date or want to impress someone with a trip down to DUMBO and the Brooklyn Promenade...that's a different story....go ahead and check out the River Cafe) read more

Jacques Torres Chocolate is wonderful at giving free samples of their cookies, popcorn and more. The shop is set up in such a cute way, with colors everywhere, nicely wrapped boxes and decorations for the season. I sampled the: -Chocolate Chip: good, I like the chunky chocolate within. -Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter: this was obviously superior with the creamy chunks of peanut butter within. And ordered the: -Cold Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate: ehhh it was NOT good. My goodness it just tasted like expired, sour peanut butter and chocolate milk. Just too expensive for the taste. If I were to try it again, I would just stick to the original. FINAL VERDICT: This chocolatier is clearly overpriced (although the prices are lowest in DUMBO) but the staff is friendly and they have pretty high-quality products. read more

Just darn cute! I had the wonderful opportunity to experience J. Torres Chocolate through the eyes of a 7yr old, my little cousin. We entered; he instantly behaved like Templeton (Charlotte's Web); scurrying from one end of the store to the other, rattling off his wants: chocolate bar, chocolate cake, chocolate chip cookie, lollipop & fudge bar. Mind you, we only came to purchase him a hot chocolate. It's boutique style with a warm decor invites a chocolate wonderland aha. Staff was friendly, each in their respected stations, observing customers quietly offering assistant when warranted. When his chocolate mental-nuttiness subsided, a barista offered him to sample the hot chocolate, topped with so whipped cream; he entered another sweet utopia. We left with a cutest Jacques Torres clear shopping bag of goodies & smile the remained way pass a 7yr old bedtime. read more

This is a wonderful place located in DUMBO.Yes it's a bit pricey (what isn't these days in Dumbo) but it's more of a place to get a gift rather then a chocolate bar every day. I love the chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich. Yumm! It's the perfect treat to come home to after a stroll in the city. Service is pretty good as well and I love that you can see the chocolate being made. My partner worked for them for a little bit a few years back and they seemed like good people (the employees work really hard to make that chocolate, standing up almost all day so, if I am paying a little more for their salary, I have no problem shelling out the dough.) read more

My only mistake was not reading the Yelp reviews first, but I don't think the few & far between negative reviews would have been enough to prevent this waste of time and money. Actually, I should have trusted my gut...I was expecting a line on an early Sunday afternoon--warm July day--but instead found only 1other customer there. I am still kicking myself. Unfortunately, I read reviews on another website and all said the same things: a) frozen hot chocolate & chocolate chip cookie are worth both the walk and the calories, b) best chocolate chip cookie anyone has ever had. Wrong, wrong, and wrong. Ordered 4 items: chocolate chip cookie, "frozen" hot chocolate (classic), mudslide cookie, and chocolate spoon Chocolate chip cookie was THE WORST I have ever had. It wasn't the chocolate that was the problem, it was the cookie part. Tasted like crud. It was fresh though. "Frozen" hot chocolate. This was terrible. I could not finish a second sip. I threw the entire $4.50 waste in the garbage. Mind you, I NEVER throw out food. I even eat food past its expiration date, and have no problem cutting mold off of cheese or bread and continuing to eat it. So for me to not be able to swallow sip #2, that should tell you just how awful this was. It tasted like chemicals. Also, some of the other reviews (not on Yelp) said it was like hot chocolate ice cream. Actually, it was a chocolate DRINK the consistency of Pepto Bismol (and similar taste I may add). A horrible prank. Chocolate spoon was unimpressive. I've had better chocolate at a chocolatier in Madison, Wisconsin. Mudslide cookie (chocolate with chocolate and walnuts) was actually good. But in no way worth the walk down the Brooklyn bridge. If all 4 items were laid out before me, I would eat this, but none of the others. Cookies were comparable to Subway's "3 For" cookies. Save yourself time and money and just go there. read more

Stopped in after walking the Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan. It's July, it's hot, already 80 degrees at 10 a.m., so ice cream was a Must! I chose the Mango Sorbet, loved it, server told me it's her favorite. Joe had the Peanut Butter Rocky Road in a cone, thought he would have 2 scoops, but when she plopped the 1st scoop on, he changed his mind, one was enough! Annnd just because we're here, I had to have the Lemon Merengue pie, not too bad, but not as much of the tart lemon I love. All total, $11.00. read more

The customer service here is horrendous, we were looking at the chocolates on display and the young man at the counter said "are you guys ready to order???" In a very annoyed manner. The store was empty and we certainly weren't in a rush or rushing him. We ended up getting the milk bar which goes by ounces and a large americano. He doesn't even fill up my whole cup! I paid $3.50 for a 3/4 of a cup... nevertheless I didn't complain, I just won't be a returning customer. read more

We stopped in for hot chocolate on a cold windy day. I had read the wicked hot chocolate was good. When we got there we were told they were closing soon and only had enough hot chocolate for one small drink and could make more because they were closing. We got our one drink and a cookie. They wouldn't make me the wicked hot chocolate so I had the classic. It was good. But to rich to be able to drink more than a few sips. The cookie was good with large pieces of chocolate. Two couples came in and asked for hot chocolate and they made them fresh hot chocolatier and even customized their flavors. At 6:00 pm they told us they "were closing and to have a good day goodbye". Good chocolate but terrible attitudes from the staff. read more

Really disappointing. I don't get the love..maybe I just dont have enough of a sweet tooth but no one in my group liked the hot chocolate. My Wicked truffle was good but not worth the $1.50 for a tiny chocolate. Then we tried the hot chocolate...ugh. The Wicked was much better than the classic but both were waay to thick and rich to have more than a couple sips. A group of 4 girls and a guy each ordered their own and promptly regretted it. I think most of us maybe had a quarter of it before calling it quits. To top it off, they must have burned the chocolate cause the one I had was bitter with a burnt, acrid flavor. I'd rather have my favorite Leonidas or good old Lindt than this place. Overpriced and not good enough to be worth the trek, even though Grimaldis was just around the corner. Save yourself the money and effort and just burn some chocolate and add a splash of milk if you want to replicate the experience. read more
