Scored dessert at Lynn Eve K.'s Narsai Toast, and (I think) watched Mr. Chocolate himself plate said dessert! Each guest (and a few lucky volunteers) enjoyed his own "chocolate fountain," and each table shared a plate of confections, including my favorite, the spicy Wicked. The bottom line: A taste of Brooklyn in my everyday life. ERF read more

Oh Jacques Torres, your chocolate chip cookies are out of this world delicious. I seriously could have eaten the entire display but I decided to act like person rather than a beast. This is my favorite party about going to Brooklyn, is visiting this little chocolate shop. I have to say they do have the best hot chocolate. Usually I don't get my own because its too rich, you really only need a few sips of this hot chocolate. Le magasin c'est un reve du chocolat read more

I got the mango sorbet and coconut sorbet yesterday, both of which were really good (mango tasted fresh and very real and the coconut tasted like it came straight off the tree) and reasonably priced. I paid 3.50 for a single scope of half mango and half coconut on a cone. My friend also got a single scoop of the vanilla rum caramel, which also tasted very good. If I were solely rating the ice cream, I would give JT 5 stars. However, food poisoning definitely reduces that rating by 3 stars. Im not sure if our frozen treats were brought to room temp and then re-frozen or if it was the pesticides used in the abandoned building next door (due to rodents) but both my friend and I both had a bad case of food poisoning some hours after and are still feeling the debilitating effects. I would say, the ice cream is smooth and has great flavor, but be weary of the after effects. read more

Jacques Torres Chocolate - Not much but that's all I need to hit the spot - Chocolatiers & Shops Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Holy crap. I thought I was going to die of chocolate overload. My friends and I went to this DUMBO location of Jacques Torres in the afternoon on the first day of snow here in NYC. We just had lunch at Peter Luger, and we wanted dessert. Hot chocolate sounded excellent on the first day of snow this winter. The place was crowded as one can expect. I liked all the chocolate items you can buy there, especially the chocolate Santa Claus, which I thought looked like a black (as in African American) Santa Claus, hah! They have a few different flavours of hot chocolate, as well as solid chocolate and cookies. They serve the hot chocolate in two sizes. I decided to order the large caramel chocolate. Wow. It wasn't especially big, but this monster was so rich and so sweet I thought I would die of sweet overload. I think if you let it sit in room temperature, it would just become a piece of solid chocolate, because I think the drink literally was melted chocolate. There were five of us, and I think none of us actually finished our drinks. It was so rich, we just couldn't finish it all! read more

"The Wicked" is, or should be, the model for all spiced hot chocolate drinks. My local chocolatier*, Bittersweet, does a good one but it has been spiced to undrinkability (by me and various friends in tow) on at least two occasions. The Jacques Torres Wicked is a perfected beverage. A meal, really. I feel stronger after I drink it. Fitter and happier, too. And the cookies. The chocolate chip is now the one to beat, and that double chocolate (I think it's called), not far behind. And I'm not a real truffle/ mini chocolate fan but I sampled several of their signature flavored mini chocolates -- the Dirty Martini and the lemon something or other -- and they were fantastic and the staff is patient in describing them. Cool little store in a great location. Maybe a tad gifty inside but not unbearably so. This is first-rate chocolate. And that's what really matters. *edit: Bittersweet is not a chocolatier. They don't make their own chocolate. They import it and bake some overpriced stuff with it or otherwise sell it. Sorry. read more

If the ice cream wasn't served to me overly soft I would have given this place 5 stars. This little ice cream shop opened up right to Jacques Torres' chocolate shop. The options are limited but for me there was plenty to chose from: 8 flavors of ice cream, 4 flavors of sorbet (both hand made in small batches), soft serve (chocolate/vanilla), and a few other options like a milkshake, ice cream sandwich, or their famous chocolate chip cookies. With a name like Jacques Torres and ice cream flavors like port and salted caramel, I thought I would be in for a very expensive small portion of ice cream. That was definitely not the case. $5.50 for two very large scoops of ice cream (XXL compared to most other NYC artisan ice cream places). I tried the salted caramel and the chocolate chip cookie (vanilla with chocolate and cookie pieces). It was very interesting having ice cream that had a pronounced saltiness to it but it worked and was very smooth and creamy. The other flavor was also very good. Again, it was served to me a little too soft but other than that, it was fantastic. read more

Terrific. Before I had their hot chocolate, I really wondered what the fuss was all about. Maybe it's because I never had quality hot chocolate before, instead drowning myself in endless cups of Nestle Quick. Probably. When I had Jacques Torres hot chocolate, the scales fell from my eyes and I knew then what I had been missing. Tasty chocolate for purchase, too. As others have noted, the prices for the chocolate are not great. Not enough to take a star away, though. read more

Jacques Torres Chocolate - Yummy ice cream and sorbet - Chocolatiers & Shops Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Jacques Torres may be "Mr. Chocolate" .. but unfortunately and so disappointingly his chocolate does NOT live up to his name! All this hype about the wicked hot chocolate for what? One sip and I was done, done, done! I stayed for over 2 hours catching up with a friend but because I was so disappointed with the hot chocolate I had to bring it to their attention before I left. I told them that the chile spice was a little off.. and the lady kindly offered me a sample of the classic hot chocolate. I took a sip and said, "OKAY! this is what I'm talking about.. this is SO much better!" as she went on to replace the wicked with the classic (no extra charge) Although I STILL couldn't finished the hot chocolate because it was a way too overly chocolaty for my taste, I would definitely recommend the classic over the wicked. And better yet... a SAMPLE! ask to sample one before hand (a decent amount is offered). I also tried the $3 warm hot chocolate chip cookie and though it wasn't the best in town, it was worth the try. It is layer after layer of melty chocolate chips all throughout the cookie. Be prepared for some sticky hands! Hate it? no. Love it? no. Would I go back? Probably not.. read more

Two words when you enter this beloved place: chocolate heaven! Yes, it truly is and not only is it just your typical chocolate shop of all kinds, but the innovator behind it, Jacques Torres puts a colorful and creative spin to his treats. I ordered the wicked hot chocolate (had some nice spice and chai flavor) and a peanut butter & chocolate chip cookie. Both were sinfully rich and DELISH! The staff were both friendly and helpful esp. when I got to sample one of the bon-bons. Oh man, it's truly chocolate heaven and I'll be back again! read more

As I opened the door and walked into this chocolate nirvana, I felt my blood sugar skyrocket just from looking at all the tantalizing treats they had! From his red wine and chocolate bon bons to the most delectable chocolate bark, there is something to please even the most discriminating palate! This was my second visit to Mr. Torres' chocolate shop and this time it was cold enough for me to enjoy his infamously known hot chocolate. I decided to try the regular hot chocolate and I have to say that I could have died happy at that moment. It is the most decadently rich hot chocolate you will ever have- thus, you will be ruined for life unless, of course, you buy his convenient hot chocolate mix (which of course I did). It is not overly sweet which is nice, and you actually taste the nice bitterness of the cocoa. I did taste the wicked one as well- which has chipotle peppers and ancho chile- and it was a culinary masterpiece. I'm not a fan of hot, spicy food but this had a nice little subtle kick at the end that warmed your throat on its way down and just kept you wanting more. I also bought his dark chocolate bark which is full of nutty goodness and his chocolate chunk cookie which is absolutely delish! I bought a can of his hot chocolate mix to bring home with me so I can indulge the few days a year Miami actually has cold weather. Although it is a bit pricey at $18, I figure who can put a price on having a cup of chocolate ecstasy! read more

When I am having a bad day at work, I try to make myself feel a little better by putting some peanut M&Ms in my Special K (please, save the comments, Lord knows I have heard them all - and PS -- don't knock it until you try it). A little bag of delicious sunshine tied with a green bow! Just a few pieces will put a smile on anyone's face. I was so happy I went home and wrote Mr. Torres a fan letter. Not since my pathetic fan letter to Trent Reznor a bezillion years ago have I done that! maybe Mr. Torres put my letter up next to all the cute drawings kids have given him of his chocolate factory? JTC has always been a really popular spot in DUMBO, all for good reason. Their classic hot chocolate is so rich, flavorful and creamy you can say the chocolate has to be premium. However the largest size is tiny, so the price is quite high overall. I have not tried anything else so I can't make objective judgment about their food quality, but I love the hot chocolate. The much hyped Jacques Torres Ice Cream Parlor in Dumbo is worth the trip across the river. Especially for the chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich. Comes with three different choices of ice cream filling - vanilla, peanut butter or chocolate - the sandwich is huge! Definitely shareable for two, or frankly even three people, it is chocolately heaven. The cookies are a bit hard - I mean they are somewhat frozen so what do you expect...but they are filled with chocolate chunks and make for a very nice and cool refreshing treat on a hot summer afternoon. I don't know why more places don't serve cookie sandwiches - they are a great memory back to my childhood. I went with the chocolate ice cream filling - rich and creamy and deliciously chocolatey. Ask the counter to slice it for you as I can only imagine how hard it would be to eat whole. Kind of like biting into a big burger and having all the insides spill out. Except in this case it is the wonderful ice cream that would be exploding. If you want to go with a regular scoop - Jacques Torres offers a changing roster of flavors including several kinds of chocolate - wicked chocolate (think Mexican chocolate but with a spicier kick at the end), chocolate raspberry and their classic chocolate chip cookie dough. I can't say enough about how good Jacques Torres' chocolate is. I first discovered JT when he was on the Food Network in its early days, and his chocolate continues to be consistently, deliciously, decadently good. We happened to be in the Dumbo location when Mr. Torres was showing off some new creations (including some fantastic chocolate-coated blueberries), walking around the shop with hot chocolate in-hand. He's an amazingly nice guy, making sure all of his guests are well-taken care of - especially his littlest guests, where you see Mr. Torres' playful side come out. He's definitely the proverbial 'kid in a candy shop'! Now, back to that classic hot chocolate... it's creamy, it's rich, it's delicious, perfect for a breezy fall day. The cookies, as many other reviews mention, are excellent - no surprise since they're more chocolate than cookie, and that's a very good thing. (There's an ice cream sandwich made with those cookies with my name on it next time I visit.) I walked out of the shop with quite a few wonderful treats, and the dark chocolate bark I brought home ended up being a single serving (don't judge). There are various JT Chocolate retail locations in Manhattan, but definitely check out the 'atelier' in Dumbo if you have a chance, to really get a good feeling for what it's like to be in a place where wonderful confections are created. Top notch! read more

THE COOKIES! The Chocolate Chip Cookies are insane! $3? OKAY! (and that's not easy for me to say haha) Even me, who doesn't 'love' chocolate chip cookies, love THESE chocolate chip cookies. So soft, chocolaty and buttery. It's just sweet and salty enough- perfect! You can't go wrong with the truffles here. Grab a mixed box, you won't regret it. Who doesn't want a cute LoveBug Truffle! I love the small seating area. The frozen hot chocolate is great... but I can only drink like 2oz of it - it is Thick and Very Very Rich. If you are anywhere near Grimaldi's/Brooklyn Ice Cream, walk a few blocks and stop in for this Must Try Chocolate! * Office Gift Baskets. Jacques Torres is the self-proclaimed "Mr. Chocolate." Just look at his website and all of his marketing tactics. The quality of the products here is just so-so... I would say they were good if it weren't for the ridiculously high prices. I expect higher quality to correspond with the higher price. Unfortunately, I have had premium chocolates elsewhere that require less boasting and are far more scrumptious than anything I've had here. The seller for me is the wicked hot chocolate. It is pretty superb. However, make sure you have a person to share it with-- it is so rich that you can't have more than a few sips without getting a major stomach upset. And since the idea of "sipping chocolate" has taken the country by storm, there are many options for this type of dessert beverage at many other chocolate shops in just about any major city. I wouldn't say Jacques Torres has the corner on the market. The truffles are decent. For the price they should be far better than decent. The ice cream is a waste-- I wasn't impressed at all. My biggest problem with Jacques Torres is that he speaks for his product rather than letting the quality of the product speak for itself. For better chocolate, go to Nunu. It is far superior. read more

Ill be honest I was really excited about trying this place...my first experience was all wrong, i got a fairly large piece of his Chocolate bark, both dark and milk, hoping to bring a find to my mom who loves good quality chocolate. The milk Chocolate bark was OK, too sweet and not creamy enough, but the pistachio and almonds were great! The dark one sucked. I went a second time and got this donut looking thing and that was horrible too :( I went a third time and got a Chocolate chip cookie and the frozen hot chocolate. The cookie was pretty darn good, a little too undercooked but good. The frozen hot Chocolate sucked. I actually went twice to try the ice cream and I do not like it but it seems that most people do. Personally i smelled the egg in it, BUT, the coconut sorbet is heaven! Based on the coconut sorbet alone I would give it 4 stars. Very disappointing when a Chocolate place cant get the chocolate right. I prefer Leonidas which is unbelievable, Perugina from Italy (Baci) the ones made in the states suck, and I also really enjoy most Swiss chocolates, they do milk chocolate right. read more

My to go place when I want amazing hot chocolate. The wicked hot chocolate is THE BEST spiced hot chocolate Ive ever had. Goes great with a chocolate chip cookie, but make sure you get it warmed up before you bite into it! The only thing that sucks about Jacques is the limited seating available. The staff is super friendly and orders don't take long. Definitely an amazing place you should check out if you're a chocolate fan! read more

Jacques Torres Chocolate - Wicked hot chocolates and two double chocolate chip cookies! Heaven! - Chocolatiers & Shops Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Finishing off a day of mostly outdoor fun in and around Brooklyn, my girlfriend and I were in search of some dessert. I had read good reviews about the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, but happened to also see some great reviews for this place as well. Once in Brooklyn, it mostly dealt with proximity as to why we went to Jacques Torres Chocolate, but it definitely wasn't a move we regretted in any way (next time we'll have to try the factory). We entered Jacques Torres to an amazing display of bright orange and brown post-meal delights, which seemed to be the color combo of JT. There were giant chocolate chip cookies and plenty of chocolate covered items and huge bars of chocolate to go, but the heat made us weary of the melt factor as we were still planning on walking the Brooklyn Bridge. Instead we started with a couple of single chocolates (chocolate mint tea, cappuccino, and liquid caramel) that were all wonderful little bites of great candy. What took the cake (no dessert-pun intended) was the woman who helped us only charged us for two of the candies as she saw my girlfriend was unsure as to what she wanted so she gave us both. We then went to the ice cream side (yes they have ice cream too) in which we tried a couple of flavors and she landed on raspberry. For me, I noticed a tiny refrigerator with ice cream sandwiches (a few different flavors smacked between two of those chocolate chip cookies) so I went with this. We were both extremely happy with our choices as she loved her refreshing raspberry ice cream on this hot day and my sandwich was stuffed with creamy vanilla and rich, chocolate-filled bites of cookie. Overall Jacques Torres is worth a visit for the friendly service and anyone with a sweet tooth. Though I do want to try some ice cream elsewhere in the area, I'll at least stop in here for some chocolates (and maybe a cookie). read more

I was first introduced to their Wicked Hot Chocolate several years ago, and all spicy hot chocolates have paled in comparison since then. (Not saying theirs is the spiciest. Just the most perfect.) A couple months ago I took a visiting friend here before we did the classic walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. This time I bought a box of their truffles, and sampled them when I got home. They were all amazing. My friend also got one of their chocolate chip cookies, which I must say was pretty damn perfect, as well. And as an avid baker, I don't lavish such praise lightly. I think you'll be happy with anything you get here. read more

I can't remember how I first discovered Jacques Torres Chocolate. I think the first I ever heard of them was on the Food Network, in regards to their ice cream sandwiches, which I still have yet to try. Anyways, I don't remember the circumstances that first landed me inside Jacques Torres, but I do remember that on that first visit, I had their chocolate chip cookie and wow - this is a cookie like no other. It's pretty much like they take a bunch of chocolate, put it between two layers of dough and bake it. The results is amazing and not to mention huge! So, it's safe to say that I'm addicted to their cookies and am eagerly anticipating their ice cream sandwiches. Having some time to kill before meeting a friend at her Dumbo workspace the other morning, what else is there to do besides stop in at Jacques Torres, especially since my friend's workspace was also on Water Street. I walked in merely intending to buy a few cookies, but noticed people sampling these chocolate drinks. Upon inquiring, I was told that their frozen hot chocolate was being sampled and would I like some as well? Yes, please. This was also my first experience with frozen hot chocolate - I've never had what is served at Serendipity. Anyways, the frozen hot chocolate at Jacques Torres is heavenly and delictable. I only had a small sample, which wasn't filling. After trying their original style, I was also offered the wicked style, which is flavored which spices, including cayenne. Don't be put off by the cayenne tho. In this case, spicy doesn't mean hot, but flavorful. The wicked hot chocolate is more thicker than the original variety tho and best eaten with a spoon. So, as if I hadn't already eaten enough, the girl behind the counter also told me that they make their own ice cream and I could go next door for some samples, should I desire, which I did. I tried three kinds of ice cream (vanilla, chocolate chip cookies and salted caramel, which was especially delicious) and two kinds of sorbet (mango and lemon). Mango is their best seller, but the lemon was a real winner. It's too bad that they'll only be serving ice cream for another month before closing up shop for the winter tho. Definitely stop by tho. The cookies and ice cream are the tops, the ice cream sandwiches look to be amazing and the hot chocolate drinks can be sampled on request! Just one note - they did say that their Chelsea Market location is closed, as they lost their lease. read more

Chocolate is not one of my vices. I could have five pounds of chocolate in my cupboards and they would seriously sit there for years. I joke that I hoard chocolate since I buy it or am given it, but just enjoy having it there more than the concept of actually eating it. Long story short, when I find myself at shops like Jacques Torres in DUMBO, I'm not so much "in heaven" as I am challenged by what to get to have a unique experience. I was walking across the Brooklyn Bridge with some friends who were in town from Copenhagen, and being that we had been chilled to the bone during our walk, they promised that a cup of hot chocolate from Jacques Torres would do the trick of warming us up (and giving us heart attacks). The Jacques Torres shop is cute and lower key than I thought it would be - It's expensive, but it's not outrageous. We each had a hot chocolate ($3) which ended up being truly the best hot chocolate I have ever had. It wasn't too thick, but it was intense and complex which I didn't think could happen with what I ordinarily make out of powder from a packet. Here, they steam it to order (probably using whole milk [or butter]), and it comes out beautifully. There is also a "wicked" version which I suspect is spicy, but we went with the regular. The shop also sells chocolate and chocolate-related products from A-Z. You can buy truffles and bonbons by the piece, pre-packaged solid chocolate and bars, and even a quite tacky looking 3 foot tall chocolate bunny for Easter if you really deemed that $95 purchase necessary. There are two tables to sit at, but others just stand around huddling in with their decadent beverages - I almost wish I had ordered my hot chocolate as half-coffee/half-chocolate since I feel like that would be the zing it needed, but overall, this is a great experience and completely worth it if you're in DUMBO in need of something unique and delicious. read more

Stopped here after an afternoon of water taxiing over to Brooklyn. It was a warm day and we needed a sweet pick me up, not to mention a snack to watch all the wedding parties taking pictures along the river. I tried the Wicked Chocolate Ice Cream in a fresh made waffle cone. I usually detest chocolate ice cream. It's usually a vapid, faint excuse for real chocolate flavor. This ice cream however was chocolately with a nice hint of heat at the end. It looks like all the ice creams are made in small batches and in house since the tubs were pretty small. Wish I could get some Wicked Chocolate at home. read more

We made a long walking trek to Jacque Torres Ice Cream last week in hopes of trying their Pistachio Ice Cream Sandwich, but to our dismay it was closed. Apparently, if I did my research, I would have known that the ice cream shop is only open on the weekends. The lady behind the counter at the Chocolate Shop saw the disappointment in my face and was so kind to go in the back and make me a vanilla ice cream sandwich. This was such a nice gesture. I work in the service industry and can definately appreciate it when someone goes out of there way for customers. The ice cream sandwich was huge and well worth the $4.50 - $5.00 (I don't remember). I love how the chocolate in the cookies were not chips, but more like chocolate chunks. My mouth is watering just writing about it. read more

Jacques Torres Chocolate - Salted caramel and chocolate - Chocolatiers & Shops Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

The ice cream sandwiches sit in a little freezer by the entrance. I recommend waiting on line and then grabbing one when you need to pay, instead of holding it in your hand and letting it melt. For $6, it's not a cheap dessert, but it's well worth it and you need someone to share it with. What makes this the best ice cream sandwich ever is the quality of everything. The cookies are loaded with so much chocolate and hold the ice cream so well without falling apart. The middle is a huge thick slap of salted caramel ice cream, which had a perfect balance of creaminess, saltiness, and sweetness. The balance is important or it's just not enjoyable to eat that amount of ice cream. There are a few different flavors. There's more ice cream that you've had in any other ice cream sandwich. However, I would highly recommend sharing it with someone. By the end, it really became a burden to finish. I was too full and even skipped dinner later because I painstakingly shoved it into my face in agony. At first, it was so delicious, then it became my mortal enemy. read more
