Heard a lot about this chain. So got an opportunity to try their store in Dumbo. A good number of options to choose from. We tried the dark chocolate wine truffle. Took home the milk chocolate with hazelnuts bar , milk chocolate with pecan nuts bark, dark chocolate almonds, dark chocolate with almonds bar and super dark chocolate bar. All of them are delicious. Totally worth the hype. The dark chocolate almonds were covered in bitter chocolate powder which I loved. The hazelnut chocolate bar had full hazelnuts on them which enhanced the flavor. I also want to try their hot chocolate which is flavored with cinnamon and chili! One thing I should mention is being charged for an extra truffle which I got refunded. I wouldn't have mentioned it but read other reviews and it has happened to other reviewers as well. So make sure you check your receipt! read more

What a disappoint. Went way down hill. Terrible customer service, cookie recipe clearly changed... and just feels like a tourist trap

I LOVE THE HOT CHOCOLATE!!!!!!!! Nothing beats the rich, creamy, hot chocolate. I seriously dream about it.

Had the chai hot chocolate and it was heaven in my mouth. I was going to get the classic but I was able to sample it and thought it was ehh... so went with the chai. Had the chocolate chip cookie and it was a nice sweet snack. The cashiers was so personable. I really like this place. read more

Great customer service and hospitality -- Jacques Torres Chocolate bravo! In Dumbo, where cafes are on every corner and are typically staffed with disinterested baristas, it's completely refreshing to be greeted with the friendly staff at JTC. I will walk an extra 5 blocks out of the way to get my regular espresso.. it is always done right and with a smile. They also sell great chocolates too :) read more

Going strictly off their chocolate chip cookie you have never tasted one as amazing as this. It is almost as if they have put a thin layer of chocolate inside the entire cookie and retains an almost gooey consistency. Not to mention price wise in Dumbo $3 for a cookie is average, yet this is a huge cookie and one of the best you will ever get your hands on. Not to mention they have frozen ice cream cookie sandwiches for $5.50 read more

I would like to start of saying the decor and uniqueness of the chocolate factory is amazing. You can certainly taste the creativity that Jacques has put into his recipes and it shines through in the customer service. I was offered a free sample of the iced hot chocolate by a staff member. The food ranges from ice cream to lemon meringue and everything in between. Overall I think there is a sense of comfort and a taste of chocolate you get when you walk in. read more

Ridiculously tasty hot chocolate. Initially walked past the place on a gloomy day in DUMBO and once the rain started we wondered back seeking out something warm to drink. Had their Wicked Hot Chocolate and it didn't disappoint. Only thing keeping it from 5/5 stars was slightly unenthusiastic staff (not rude or anything like that, just not friendly enough to get the fifth star). Strongly recommend seeking out their hot chocolate, especially during the colder part of the year! read more

Passed by while exploring and wanted something sweet. First off, the staff is extremely friendly. Greeted us as soon as we came in and explained the selling point of the items that interested. They were also handing out samples of the hot chocolate and chocolate bars, and they weren't stingy with it! Told us to take as much as we wanted. The hot chocolate was delicious and the dark chocolate was a good mixture of sweet and bitterness. We ended up getting a hot chocolate (a full sized cup since it was so good) and a chocolate chip cookie. The cookie was probably one of the best I have. It was extremely chocolate but not in an overbearing sense. I love chocolate and this was perfect for me. I wanted to try some of the other chocolates but was in a rush. Will definitely come back to one of their other locations to the all the other varieties they have to offer! read more

Amaaaazing hot chocolate!! This is hands down the best hot chocolate I've ever had in my life. It's super creamy, thick, and chocolatey - none of that powdery stuff. I don't think I can ever go back to 'normal' hot chocolate after this. It's not too sweet, and it's really hot too so be careful. Delicious on a cold, windy/snowy day. Amazing!!! A bit pricey at $3.81 post-tax for such a small cup, but the quality is definitely there and worth it once in a while! read more

it's very much so a love-hate relationship with jacques torres. the love: -the chocolate is decent (graham crackers are my favorite) -can grab goodies when in a bind and need a gift/housewarming gift/nyc themed present -occasionally, there might be cookies out for sampling the dislike: -$$$$$ prices be JACKED for no good reason -chocolate is only decent -no chocolate covered cherries (literally my grandma's favorite treat and i can never count on JT to have them) -same old boring chocolate covered things- raisins, popcorn, cheerio... cmon let's switch it up, people.. how bout some pretzels? apricots? bring back the krispies read more

In search of something sweet during this hiatus from the South Beach Diet (I was almost compelled to put "#" in front of "south" from tweeting so much-- everyone tweet #yelp), I came across Mr. Torres' chocolate place while the hot drink machine was being fixed. NOOO! "Excuse me, can I help you?" "Why, yes you may! Chai?" "Sorry, our machine isn't working." "I'll have a chocolate chip cookie." "Would you like some iced tea?" "Pardon? Yes, that would be lovely." At this point, Mr. Torres brushes past me. He must be busy. O M G He is wearing the same shorts I own! So now I have to make this 5 stars. Quite possibly the best chocolate chip cookie I have ever had. Granted it was at the end of the day. read more

Perhaps it was a bit on the lines of a "spontaneous" decision that I arrived at Jacques Torres... After all, the plan on Valentine's Day was to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and end up at the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. Nevertheless, I would like to extend a special Thanks to the couple that had giving both Rachel and I impeccable directions to Jacques Torres in DUMBO. The anticipation of enduring chocolate Nirvana was beyond incomprehensible. When first arriving at the doorstep, I had anticipated a line of patrons that would wrap around the block. Luckily, the flock of the usual chocolate addicts was greatly limited to that of a handful. I was glad to be able to enter the establishment without having to wait in the daunting cold. At first entry, the tantalizing essence of chocolate decadence cascaded each breathable scent of this establishment. There is very little doubt that the primary product of consumption is that of chocolate. The setting of the chocolate production facility is segmented into two parts... Retail: Although petite in nature, the Dark Mahogany Panel Display Cases and White Marbled Counter Top add to the allure of this Chocolate Haven. The dim fluorescent lighting produces a feeling of subtlety and leisure for an atmosphere that boasts and dictates bold and brash flavors. Lighting is even more the emphasis of the décor as this sets the stage for the mainstay chocolate consumables at Jacques. Patrons will find that the dim and subtle lighting acts more as a spot light as to the product displays rather than that of the establishment. Production: The Chocolate Production factory, which can be viewed from the retail front is the foundation of where all edibles are produced. Unlike the subtle and elegant ambiance in the retail front, the chocolate production facility is mechanized devices that aid in the creation of the edibles. Maybe it was Valentine's Day, or an everyday good gesture at Jacques, but the complementary Hot Chocolate added to the illustrious service rendered at this establishment. The Food... Hot Chocolate (Free): Although it was only a sample size cup of about 2 oz., the Beverage produced an amassed fondness of the application and execution conducted by Jacques. The thick and velvety texture derived from the proper balance of Heavy Cream and Medium Dark Cocoa dictate an appreciation for the beverage consumed. Patrons will find this application to be thick, frothy and welcoming! With each sampling, consumers will find that the superb use of each element in the application works in conjunction to create a taste that's both soothing and strong. Chocolate Chip Cookie ($2.50): There is little doubt from the general consensus that the cookie should be renamed Chocolate Chunk with Cookie Specs. At first taste, the overwhelming (but welcoming) taste of the bold and bitter Medium Dark Chocolate consumes the palate. The brazen flavors of the Chocolate pave way to the texture contrast of the cookie component by enhancing both the Flour Sugar and Butter components. With each bite, consumers will find that despite the excessive amount of chocolate used in the application, the balance of ingredients ranging from the Medium Dark Chocolate, Flour, Sugar, Butter, and Eggs work in harmonious balance to create a well defined cookie. Mudslide Cookie ($2.50): Perhaps this cookie should be labeled the "darker" version of the Chocolate Chip. The components of the Mudslide Cookie contain ingredients similar to the Chocolate Chip, with the addition of Cocoa Powder (to darken the flour) and Macadamia Nuts. At first bite, the vicious flavors derived from the combination of Bitter Sweet to Pure Bitter Chocolate engulf the senses. There is little doubt that this application was meant to test the senses and palate of a consumer. For starters, the first taste derived is that of Cocoa Powder enhanced Cookie Dough that's greatly complemented by the Semi Bitter Chocolate Chunks. The addition of the Macadamia Nuts allows for another dimension to the application by allowing the nutty flavors and crunchy textural contrast to shine in the application. Consumers will find that although the various flavors of the Cookie surmount their every expectation, the underlying appreciation of the cookie is comparable by few and mirrored by none. Despite the excessive levels of Sugar and Chocolate consumed for only a half hour's time, the illustrious notoriety labeled to Jacques Torres' Chocolate Haven meets the standards set by all patrons. The overall feeling of satiety and comfort that's derived after consumption is not often experienced. In a matter of speech, the pleasure and harmony gained after consuming Jacques's Cookies is comparable to having one of the best desserts ever invented. Such appreciation and fondness is rarely felt and never forgotten. read more

Drink (Green Tea): 5 Chocolate: 5 I'm a sucker for good chocolate. I saw it through the window and couldn't resist, plus I was suffering from some serious jet lag and convinced myself green tea and some chocolate would make it all disappear. I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the Jasmine Green tea. It was better than or equivalent to Mighty Leaf. The chocolate was divine. So were the chocolate chip cookie samples. All of it was yummylicious oh so delicious. I would keep coming back, again and again. read more

I made a little deal with myself yesterday that I could check out the new Jacques Torres Ice Cream shop on the way to the gym IF I only got a size that was small enough for me to eat in its entirety between JTIC and the F train (about a 4-minute walk). As it turned out, this was no problem at all, because the scoops are TINY!! One petite little scoop that didn't even reach the top of the cup was $3. Good for my bikini-body aspirations, bad for my value-minded wallet. That thing was gone by the time I passed under the shadow of the Manhattan Bridge, and I was left stabbing the bottom of the empty cup with my spoon in frustration. Since I moved to DUMBO, I've always been a Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory loyalist. They're old school, only serving the most classic of classic flavors and toppings, their servings are generous, and their hot fudge is FREAKING OUT OF THIS WORLD. JTIC is kind of the anti-BICF. While they do have standards like chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, the bulk of their flavors are more creative--chocolate banana, vanilla caramel, and of course, Wicked, after their infamous spicy hot chocolate. I tasted the Wicked and I have to admit, it was awesome. Rich and chocolately with a chipotle kick. I opted for the vanilla caramel because I wanted to try the hot fudge (how could you not, when JT's behind the helm?), but was a little disappointed in the plating, if you will. Instead of dipping a ladle in a vat of warm, goopy fudge, the ice cream girl took a squeeze bottle and made a pretty little crisscross pattern on top of my sad little scoop of ice cream. I am sorry, but that is NOT hot fudge!! Hot fudge is not meant to be a pretty crisscross, it's meant to be glopped on so it slides down the sides and creates warm little pools all around your ice cream!! Look, I ate it, right? It was very nice ice cream. But with BICF across the street from my door, I don't really see myself going back unless I have a particular craving for Wicked. Or a fancy cookie. They had some very tasty looking fancy cookies there too. read more

Jacques Torres is the kind of place you visit when you're riding the gluttony train, but also have some fancy cash to blow and aren't sad enough to spend it on pints of Ben & Jerry's at Rite Aid. They've got every cookie, chocolate bar, and flavor of gelato your heart could desire, and it's all presented behind pretty glass cases. My family and I went on a hot day and there were still tables available inside, which was awesome. In all, my soul is happy this place exists in my neighborhood. My hips, not so much. read more

Wicked hot chocolate is so thick and rich, perfect for a brisk walk in Brooklyn Bridge Park in Winter. Ask for the pastries to be warmed, and get your order to go. I don't care for the seating, not much of an atmosphere. Unless you count the wonderful chocolate and sugar smells the drift throughout the space. The ice cream isn't very good, but the chocolate truffles are top rate. My favorite are the earl gray. I enjoy giving the chocolate truffles as gifts. Good F'ing Lord, is this Jacques Torres dude a miracle worker or not? After pulling a Bueller today and taking off from work, I met my friend in brooklyn. We were looking for a good dessert after munching down on Grimaldi's so my friend suggested we come here. And "good call" is all I can say about her suggestion. I was still a bit full from Grimaldi's so I just got the Mudslide cookie, which is dark chocolate with walnuts. Not as huge as the cookies from Levain but just as tasty. My friend, of course, had to get the amazing mocha frozen hot chocolate. I don't know why they even call it that, it's basically a damn frozen coffee. But one sip and I swore I was standing next to Robert Smith from The Cure because I felt "just like heaven". and bonus: Jacques Torres himself came into the store. We just stood in awe as he made his away around the store. Sort of like watching Jean-Georges walk around, uhh, Jean-Georges. Highly, highly, highly, highly recommended - especially after eating some Grimaldi's. read more

There is just something about a warm, ooey-gooey chocolate chip cookie that makes you feel like a kid all over again. And I gotta say, feeling like a kid on your birthday is definitely the way to go. Forget worrying about how old you're getting, or your "5 year plan," or whether you've accomplished everything you wanted to in the past year. Just take a moment to really enjoy eating the best chocolate chip cookie you've ever had. Savor it. Feel the outer crispness give way to inner chewiness as your teeth bite gently down. Let the warm chocolate melt in your mouth. Get your fingers dirty with chocolate as you pull it apart. Lick the chocolate off your fingers, off the plate, off the little paper baggie the cookie came in. Don't be embarrassed. Little kids don't get embarrassed, remember? The hot chocolate, on the other hand, is for much more sophisticated palates. It's the richest, thickest, most decadent hot chocolate I've ever had. I probably could have just had a shot of this and my sweet tooth would have been satiated. I'm impressed that people can finish the 16 oz. cup! But there's nothing better on a cold December day than a cup of delicious, luxurious hot chocolate. As you're being transported back to happy childhood memories, remember the wise words of that furry blue Muppet: "C is for Cookie and that's good enough for me." Because I find that as I get older, it's the little things in life that bring me the most joy. My bday wishlist gets smaller and smaller b/c I find that I need/want fewer things. Good friends, good chocolate, good cookies. That's good enough for me. read more

I love chocolate just as much as I love breathing... I also love this place, is it possible to add more stars? I could go on and on about the smell, taste, and mouth feel of their chocolate. I've forgotten about this place.... *gasp* B/c it's quite out of the way for me, I don't frequent it. Really, the only times I've visited this location are the times I made pilgrimage to Grimaldi's for pizza. Pretty darn good chocolates and lovely hot chocolates. As other reviewers have said, it's FINE chocolate with a higher-than-you-wish price tag. But their products make a terrific gift for any occasion. I find the Manhattan location to be much more accessible, however. read more

Your chocolate chip cookies and dark chocolate bark are GREAT, but both your hot and "iced" hot chocolate are disgusting. I'm not the only one who thinks so - every week when I bag up the garbage at the BK winter flea, there are pools of the stuff everywhere - seems no one can get through even a quarter of a cup. Extra star for being across from Almondine, so you can "eat something" before sugar-shocking your body. read more

Iced latte and the famous large chocolate chip. Both were just okay, nothing special or memorable.

The interior of this place is adorable, the employees are friendly, and the huge selection of chocolate treats and baked goods will make you want to eat everything in sight--trust me, it was a problem! I only got to try the chocolates and a couple cookies while I was here, but coming back to try everything else is definitely in my plans. The dark chocolate was delicious, but the milk chocolate just wasn't for me.. it was just too milky and sweet. The fresh baked cookies were incredibly tasty and decadent--some of they best I've ever tasted. They had a wonderful balance of crispy edges and a warm, gooey interior. 4 stars. Everything was great.. except the milk chocolate, though I might consider giving it another shot during my next visit. read more

These chocolate chip cookies are to die for, and when a pair of them are squishing some ice cream into a chip-wich from Heaven, they'll kill you. Which I guess might make it a chip-wich from Hell -- if Hell were deliciously sweet and decadent. No, seriously. On a warm summer day, I was in DUMBO for a wedding, and we decided to duck in here before the festivities. I had always known about the cookies -- shavings of the highest quality chocolate layered into dough that has been aged 36 hours and then baked into a chewy, oozy dream -- but when I saw the cooler of ice cream sandwiches, I knew what I would be getting. The bf picked up some truffles and gobbled them up tout de suite. There's very little seating in the shop, so we sat out on the metal steps in front, and I launched into a strawberry ice cream chip-wich. I got halfway through and was overwhelmed by the decadence, but it's not like you can save it for later. I got 2/3 of the way through and felt like barfing, but I couldn't stop myself. 3/4 of the way through, I finally surrendered and handed the last quarter to my bf. He took one bite and said, "Oh my god, this is delicious, but how did you manage to eat this much of it?" So your mission for summer 2009: get one! Just bring a friend and split it, or else get ready to enjoy a journey toward barfing like you never have before. (How's that for an endorsement, Jacques?) read more

Hands down some of the creamiest sorbet I've ever tasted. Is that good or bad? Try it and decide for yourself. I love their coconut sorbet, which is very delicate without being overly sweet. Call me weird but I really don't like super sweet sorbet. I understand that adding sugar helps it freeze, but I'd rather taste the fruit itself than straight up sucrose. I'm not sure how I feel about their gelato and other sorbet flavors, especially compared to my staples il Lab and L'art in the city. But hey, at least the prices are good, since it is the JT brand and all. read more

Would not have stumbled upon this gem of a chocolate store if we didn't park right next to it. The store is a little on the smaller side, got a bit cramped while waiting in line to pay while people were entering. There's two tiny tables by the windows with two seats each. Their spicy rich chocolate was so rich and was like biting into a huge chocolate bar. Definitely ask for whipped cream on top. Ordered one chocolate chip cookie which was a mistake because I should have went for the 5 for $15. The cookies start from $3 but they were so big and full of chunks of chocolate, it was worth it. read more

As with many of my reviews, expectations are a big part of them and this was one of those situations. I went into JT's Ice Cream depot expecting to be wowed by the chocolate flavor ensemble, however, when I peeked into the very minuscule container of choco-options I was so very underwhelmed. Other than Wicked (spicy chocolate), nothing was even remotely original. Chocolate, hazelnut chocolate chunk (my interest was piqued, but still), chocolate cookie chunk, mocha, coconut sorbet, raspberry sorbet, blueberry sorbet soft serve, yogurt flavored plain soft serve, zzzzzzzz...zzzzzzzzz. :: drool forming on lip, not in a good way, in part due to episode of narcolepsy trying to get through maybe 12 flavors :: No chocolate with cornflakes or chocolate peanut butter robins eggs, chocolate orange rind...nothing even close. No originality whatsoever. When I start thinking Baseball Nut from Baskin Robbins sounds good, this ice cream depot is done for and it was. My kids and I shared the blueberry sorbet soft serve and the coconut sorbet after I had to endure yet another, "Daddy failed choosing this spot instead of just getting us a King Cone at the pizza place" moment. But they were so right. The sorbets were fine, nothing more, nothing less. On a positive note, I think you get A LOT of soft serve for $4 and a decent amount of one scoop for $3.30. I can't go less than three stars since I did not try a chocolate ice cream and I am quite sure if I do, it will be good. But with all of the ice cream creations that are out there in today's culture, the uniqueness of this particular tiny off-shoot is non-existent. The service was also bad, but I actually felt bad for the only server in there. I watched as a milkshake basically blew up in her face, then I heard a pan of something drop while we were outside and I watched droves of tourists pass by and suddenly understood her very vivid pain. Serving very average ice cream to annoying tourists all day who expect rainbows and unicorns to shoot out of their ass after they try JT The Ice Cream Experience* must be terrible for around $10/hour. _____________________ * :: raises hand :: - guilty of this offense read more

I remember seeing Mr. Torres for the first time on PBS during his television show "Dessert Circus" back when I was younger. Saying Jacques Torres triggers a memory of him laying the liquid chocolate on a marble slab, and proceeded to work on it. He spoke about chocolate so lovingly, so intimately that my sister and I immediately fell in love with his work. When I heard/saw his store, I immediately made it a mission to stop by the original at DUMBO. This tiny chocolatier is beautifully hidden on cobblestone streets. A quiet and peaceful neighborhood where the traffic from two bridges collide, softened by the river not far away. Stepping in, I find myself enjoying the sweet smell of chocolates. The color of chocolate adorned the walls, glass display cases, and satisfied patrons sipping their drink while enjoying a snack. You can't help but feel like you've been wisped away to a world all of its own. Baristas are hard at work; taking an order and making drinks. Seats are limited, maybe less than 15, though I wouldn't mind standing just to enjoy the atmosphere. The signature hot beverage is a must try: It is thick and it is sweet, but not overly sweet that it destroys the base which is chocolate. You can even add some spice if you dare. Assortment of cookies and chocolates filled with sweet nothings line up and display themselves, too many I've tried that I don't know where to start. But to the ones I've had the pleasure of tasting, the flavors were wonderful. Reviewing this is very hard due to my chocolate bias. All and everything is chocolate here. If a you are a chocolate lover, a must is in order to visit this place. Falling in love with chocolate, all over again. Chocolate is creamy, smooth, and rich. It is a bottle of loving hope, beautiful imagination, passionate truth, and orgasmic bliss. It harmonizes all of these qualities to make a dreamland within the mouth. A utopia where you close your eyes and savor every tingle, a place one calls his own. read more

Chocolate with imagination Hidden gem. Great selection of chocolate. These stuff a lot of options into a very small space. There is some side sitting and a few small chairs in the window. Chocolate bark (good price), truffles (awesome, but pricy) and even cookies were rapidly consumed in our hotel that same night. Had to go back to get some truffles to bring home. Try their hot chocolate! Serving sizes are small, but it is excellent and VERY chocolaty. This place isn't cheap, you're going to spend some cash. But it's not Hershey's, mass produced, chocolate either. Highly recommend. Can't wait to return. read more
