I love Jacob's. I order frequently. Their COVID practices make me feel so safe (pick up only, automatic hand sanitizer dispenser outside, grab your order from the table right by the door). The employees are so friendly and they always remember me and ask how I'm doing. I do think I've seen people order at the door as well. Such a cute shop too, pre-covid it's a great spot to do work or meet up for lunch/coffee--it does get crowded and busy. read more

Eh...I came in on a Saturday afternoon & was greeted by who I think is the owner. She didn't welcome me when I informed her it was my first time here. Or help me through the menu by explaining any specials or any recommendations. I ended up ordering the egg & cheese on ciabatta bread (which I thought was a bagel because it was listed under "bagels"). It was just OK and the cheese wasn't melted. She asked for my name & I spelled it for her, but when my order was ready one of the other employees just hands me my food like "here you go". Ummm...yeah, so why ask for my name then? poor service. I also order the Cafe Latte with almond milk - they use iffy's coffee, which I learned today that I am not a fan of. I wish they had non-pork meat alternatives. At least they had almond milk for a non-dairy alternatives. There were some annoying little kids with their mother who kept yelling about everything. FYI The seating is limited as this is a small cafe & people share tables. So, if you're not into talking to or sharing a table with people you don't know then maybe this place isn't for you. It's been a couple years and I still really love this place. Since my last review, the ownership has changed which only improved the already pretty awesome coffee shop. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. The coffee is great and they now serve NY bagels. Their Thai iced tea bubble tea is to die for! It's a great place to stop by for breakfast or to do some work or reading. It's gets busy some times but not too bad or for too long. I love coming here. This is the first place, cafe or otherwise, where the (super friendly) staff have learned my name and lifted, if only briefly, the veil of anonymity of city life. They are a neighborhood treasure and both the food and drink hit the spot, and they're excellent about special requests. The new management at Jacob's is great. Very nice and helpful. The Thai Tea Bubble Tea was incredible: it was a frozen thai tea smoothie with tapioca bubbles. I'll come back here to get this again. Jacob's is one of my favorite coffee shops in DC. I first visited Jacob's a couple of years ago. It was a block away from my old office. Now I stop by all the time to get breakfast croissant and a Tai Bubble tea. My favorite thing to order here. Make sure to sign up for the rewards system too. The reviews drew me across the city, and Jacob's did not disappoint. I had a lovely breakfast sandwich with truly excellent coffee. The menu also includes amazing looking muffins (next time!), bagel and lox, waffles, and lunch sandwiches. Price range is standard for DC coffee places. Muffins are pretty cheap, breakfast sandwiches are $4-6, and real sandwiches $8-10. Coffee is the usual DC pricy but it's very well made. The store is a nice size: enough room to sit inside or to sit outside, but still cozy. Very pleasant classical music makes the place relaxing to stay in for a bit. I tried to brush my teeth with acne medicine this morning. All the shiny tubes looked the same, which meant I needed more coffee than usual. The stop in SoMD was the usual gas and guzzle, but by the time I'd begun driving down 8th Street...it was time for more. This is where Jacob's steps in. I judge a coffee shop based on a crazy theory. Frappes and Doublemochachinacaramelthousandcalorie with Whipped Creme be dammed...just give me a straight coffee. And the featured coffee, Douwe Egberts French Roast, did a damn fine job in helping me open my eyes from their half-mast morning position. It was a solid cup o'joe. Once fully awake, I could take in the rest of the coffeehouse. It's a homey, little neighborhood spot with everything a local coffeeshop should have. Plenty of baked goods, breakfast sandwiches that looked big and yummy, a few lunch items listed that I promise I'll try at a later date. But it was the pretty little cupcakes on the counter got my attention...hello breakfast! Sugar and caffeine...and now I'm hearing bagpipes. A Scottish themed hallucination perhaps? Nope...just a little softly played celtic music on the speakers. That made me grin. Jacob's is a sweet, small, homey and unpretentious spot I have a feeling I'll be frequenting often. This is just a few blocks from my apartment and I love stopping in here for breakfast or lunch on the weekends. I don't really drink coffee, so I can't really comment on that, but the breakfast and the sandwiches are really good and not expensive. I usually go with their breakfast sandwiches on bagels or English muffins, but the waffles and French toast are good too. The staff are always really friendly and I feel totally comfortable if I want to hang out for a while and read a magazine or study. There are usually a few people in there, but I've never seen it busy to the point that it's crowded or you can't find a seat. Before heading off to inebriation station (Shamrock Fest), the boy and I decided it might be a good idea to get some food in us first and he recommended Jacob's because of our shared love of bubble tea and a recently spotted sign. This place is cozy and quaint with an upscale modern feel and their big comfy chairs near the window were inviting and perfect for people watching. Don't have your laptop like everyone else here? Grab one of the many books from the shelf (some seriously good reads) or one of their many magazines. You have a hobby? They probably have your magazine. They've also got some little toys and kids books laying around for the munchkins, and one little tyke A-lined for them immediately and played quietly while his Dad waited in line. Food and drink? Salmon and cream cheese bagel: perfect balance of lox, capers and tomatoes. Lattes: Delicious, no sugar needed. Bubble Tea: A little more "bubble" would be good for the balance, but still good. Found it! My go-to coffee spot, that is. Phew! After moving into the neighborhood I've been on the hunt for my latte place and Jacob's is it. Their pumpkin spice latte and friendly service totally won me over. I also recommend the lox and cream cheese bagel - yum. They have some lovely outdoor tables usually populated with neighbors and their dogs. Even at the busiest times of the day you can usually find a spot. I'm giving this place five stars primarily with atmosphere in mind. As a gal studying everday and constantly looking for great neighborhood venues that offer a quiet and conducive work space, Jacob's excels in that aspect. Lots of sunlight ooozes through the tall windows and makes for an excellent sunny and warm coffeeshop. There are a row of tables to pick from and almost the entire venue is filled with students or working professionals. It's also very quiet compared to Ebenezer's, which does get a lof of foot traffic. Since Jacob's is tucked away a bit, chances are there will be room to sit (seriously, this is nearly impossible to get at busier cafes!). All I ordered was a chamomile tea and it was soothing and aromatic. The baristas are very sweet and smile a lot. They're incredibly approachable and I didn't get nervous asking for more hot water, which I find at some places the staff gets annoyed w/such a request. Now that I know how easy it is to get to this place, I'm looking forward to going to Jacob's more. read more

I just moved into the neighborhood and was excited about having a neighborhood coffee shop. Armed with my laptop and hours worth of work, I walked over late on a Sunday morning and set up shop. I ended up working here for almost three hours and had a chance to sample the fare and make some observations. Food: The coffee's ok. I ordered a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich. They used a slice of American cheese (think Kraft Singles). Really? I was hoping for something a little bit more sophisticated... Service: The owners don't do much to engage their customers or create a sense of community, other than cursory politeness. Wifi: Wifi works great inside but does not work well (or at all) from their outside tables. I had to come back inside, which was a bit of a drag on a beautiful, autumn day. Summary: They get a lot of traffic because frankly, there's not much else around but it's nothing special. They have to up their game on the food even if it means charging a bit more. Customers like me would be willing to pay more for something nicer than a Kraft single. Also, their service style does not encourage me to want to come back here. read more

As is often the case, I wish I could award Jacob's three and a half stars, because I really do like the place. Unfortunately, it's not worth the full four stars in my estimation, but let me tell you why I do like it. Most of the time (though not always, as evidenced by several cooing mothers with strollers and annoying proto-couples engaged in inane and stereotypical gendered banter with each other), it's a quiet space for studying. I so enjoy when I walk in and find other students with their books splayed out, earbuds in, and coffee and pen in hand. I feel right at home. But obviously we can't be the noise police in a public space, and sometimes it's just as not as quiet as I'd prefer. Alas, I will have to keep hunting for that elusive space, but as I said, most of the time, it's pretty quiet, and I do appreciate that. Their coffee is a-okay, but nothing special. The same goes for their food. I don't love that they offer breakfast when it's of the microwaved-egg variety, and their panini and the like are nothing to write home about, really, but points to them for having a somewhat extensive food menu nonetheless. The main reason I can't give Jacob's four stars instead of three is their hours. I get that it's a family-run business, and they can close whenever they want to, but really? 6 pm on a Sunday? It's just not convenient for students like me looking for a quiet place near home to study. My neighbors are lovely, but not at all quiet, so I'm still on the hunt for a quiet place that serves strong java and is also open well into the evening hours. Jacob's is a great neighbor! I can't understate how nice it is to have a coffee shop practically next door to my house. That said, it's temping to spend too much here. I will second many of the comments that it isn't cheaper than Starbucks, but I understand it's harder for Indie coffee shops with lower volume to compete on price. I do think the coffee is better here, especially the iced coffee made with the cold-brew method (the best way to do it). The food is also a plus. You can get breakfast all day long and they don't just serve breakfast sandwiches... you'll find waffles and other standard breakfast fair here too. Last time I checked, you can order turkey bacon/sausage and other healthy options here. The ingredients are fresh daily as well. In addition to breakfast food, you can get sandwiches like Paninis too. I've never noticed a religious tinge to the place. They have a spot where local organizations and folks can leave materials and notes so maybe someone from the church down the street left something. They do have a bookshelf with lots of reading material, including a large children's section. The interior is rather small, so on a busy mornings it can get crowded. That's just how it is, but the patio is fantastic on nice days. Wifi is fast and free here... more than I can say for Starsucks. read more

Stopped at Jacobs Coffeehouse on a whim for a caramel macchiato and bacon, egg and cheese on croissant and I'll tell you...if you live in the northeast dc area and love coffee, this is a shop you want to check out. Now I haven't tried the other coffees as of yet, but I'll come back at a later date. The caramel macchiato blew Starbucks away...yeah seriously. I almost lost my mind when the cook grabbed a fresh egg to cook my sandwich. It's even that much greater because the sandwich was really hot. It has a pretty nice atmosphere. It's a small corner shop that's probably really great in the summer time. Didn't check out if they had wi-fi on this go around, but if I wanted to chill on a Saturday or Sunday morning this would be it. read more

Jacob's has the *best* pumpkin spice latte I've ever had. It's flavorful but not overly sweet or overly spice. As Goldylocks would say, it's just right. The ladies behind the counter are really nice. felt like venturing to this spot for coffee and bfast last weekend and as you can see by the 1 star above it did not go so well. It's Jacob's Coffee & Cafe, right? So let's discuss it's namesake - the coffee and the cafe. Coffee - decent variety and has the standard favs. My brew seemed pretty watered down though, not great. In the coffee bar area they only had half and half as an option - watered down half and half (the canister had ice in it...gross). Cafe - I inquired if the had turkey sausage? Nay. Turkey bacon? Nay. Egg Beaters? Nay. Egg whites? Nay, even though they use real eggs to make the samiches! A freakin' whole wheat english muffin?!?! Nay, again! Alas, I got the egg mcmuffin equiv. reg. eggs, ham, cheese and english muffin. The eggs were WAY overcooked, the mcmuffin not toasted, and the cheese cold. I took one bite and threw it away. Ambiance - The cafe is furnished in Ikea's "finest." i.e. Lack coffee table, ect. The truly offensive part is the plethora of Christian paraphernalia. i.e "The Story of Jesus" and more than one copy of the Bible interspersed with books like "LA with kids." Ebenezer's is owed by a church but even they do not cram the religion down your throat. If in the area next time I'll go next door to the 7 eleven. read more

I lived around the corner from Jacob's for the last three years. I really enjoyed having them so conveniently located, particularly for lox on an asiago bagel, or other breakfast sandwiches, which they do incredibly well. They also have great seating areas (often full!) and plenty of outlets and wifi. They even have some books to peruse while you are there, and a nice patio. But the thing for me is that this is a coffee shop... And their espresso drinks are pretty mediocre. Their steamed milk is just kind of... Heated? Really nothing to write home about. But for a spot to read/work and eat a bfast sandy - go for it. FYI: there is a $5.00 credit card minimum. read more

I'm a fan. There's plenty of seating, including outdoor seating and some super comfy chairs inside and free wifi! The coffee isn't anything special but certainly does the trick, but the breakfast sandwiches are sooo good. Pretty good coffee, a decent selection of teas (including bubble tea!), and some light foods - my girl and I each had a waffle special of a belgian waffle, scrambled eggs, and bacon. The waffle is good since it's made fresh on a waffle iron, the rest I think is made in a microwave since they don't have a grill. So that part was mediocre but still good. Wifi was not working when we were there but there was a guy behind us on the Internet. So I turned to him and said - how are you on the web? He said: "In times of crisis, turn to the church." Very artistic, quiet and environmental friendly place. It's also quite hippie. I ordered Thai boba and it was around $7. $7 for a boba, really? There's no gold not caviar on the top, why is it $7??
