Everyone wants "their guy" when it comes to the things in life you cannot do yourself. It's best when these relationships happen by luck.
As luck would have it, Jason Jacobi's kid went to my kid's school and they both liked to play on the jungle gym after school. One day, he was wearing his HVAC work shirt. At the time I was wanting to move our condenser unit so I could build a deck in it's location. I'd gotten a couple quotes from the two-highest-rated-on-Yelp HVAC groups and been taken aback, they wanted a lot of money. It seemed exorbitant, it seemed like a maneuver to push getting a new system.
I talked to Jason about it.
He came by, suggested a little more than what the other groups suggested doing, noted some other deficiencies that could be rectified and quoted about 40% what the other groups were quoting.
Ran a new copper line, new piping insulation, metal encasement flashing, recharged the refrigerant, gave some general maintaining pointers, etc.
A resounding success.
Then, three years later, and unrelated to the condenser move, the twenty+ year old equipment inside the attic started to fail. We tried some fixes, but replacement parts on old machinery aren't cheap, so we figured it was time for a new system. Jason quoted a very reasonable price (I try to be knowledgeable and diligent), less than he was first guesstimating.
Old furnace and coils were up in my attic, twelve feet up a rickety ladder. Removed, replaced and upgraded with Ruud equipment. Not something I'd want to do even if I knew how. Added a few baffles and returns to improve air flow management.
All finished in a day.
He has an insightful preference for good branded equipment that works and can be maintained by the end user or professional without undue effort. Our home is more comfortable, not to mention a lot quieter mechanically.
I expect to never see him again (unless we move) as I trust a job beyond well-done. But it is good to know he warrants his work etc. read more
