Convenient parking with meters ... we walked towards the Japanese garden ... the flora and fauna were a sight to behold.

My overall experience was a disappointment. For paying $100 for my Mother and I, I'd expect it to be clean and fantastic customer service. My first-time experience: PROS: Beautiful views of Lake Michigan Beginner and Intermediate friendly course CONS: My Mother and I both felt extremely awkward talking to the 6 am staff today. We felt as though the staff looked down upon us for being women. The man collecting our golf ticket was rude to me when I asked him where Hole 1 was at. He looked at me as if I was an alien (that look like, why are you talking to me?). When I asked him where Hole 1 was at, since it was our first time at this course, his reply was "uh, the sign says 1?!" He also rudely forced us to golf with two complete strangers. I wanted to get my refund immediately because of him, but golfing is a bonding moment for my Mother and I and we were looking forward to our time together. Luckily the strangers were nice, and we departed into our own groups once we reached Hole 2. We had to skip three holes because every time we were about to golf, maintenance tractors kept coming up right next to us as we were golfing (sometimes they would be right in front of us, and I was afraid of hitting them. We literally had one parked next to our golf cart during the middle of my game. It was at the point where I got super distracted I had to pick up my ball and move to the next hole). An example is attached. It's not the maintenance workers' fault, but management should enforce rules when golfers are present. No ball cleaners. Ant Hills at the majority of holes. Upon returning the golf cart keys, a gentleman was paying for his tee time and said "Oh, I have a friend joining." The cashier woman said don't worry about paying for your friend, just pay $50. How come we had to pay $100 and he didn't? We left not feeling relaxed, but angry. We felt ripped off.

I played Jackson Park Golf Course on a Wednesday in early April when it was a bit windy and around 50 degrees. Despite the subpar weather conditions, JPGC delivered a quality morning of 18-hole golf that anyone could appreciate, especially in place of heading into work. The greens were well maintained and not too trampled, rough thick but not overgrown, and the fairways wide yet lacking that typical brown beatdown look they typically tend to take on later in the year when its warmer and drier. We did not wait, likely due to the timing and temperature, and finished 18 in around 3.5 hours walking at a leisurely pace. The best part is clearly the price at this very fun course, with LOTS and LOTS of challenging, well placed bunkers. Use your Chicago card and get $5 off for a total of around $15-22, depending on timing. JPGC is a great place to work on your game while not breaking the bank. Definitely will return for another late mid-week round. http://www.cpdgolf.com/Jackson-Park-Golf-Course.html Holes 18 Par 70 (M) 71 (W) Tees Rating Slope Yardage Men (B) 65.7 109 5,444 Men (W) 65.1 108 5,327 Men (R) 63.5 104 4,982 Women (B) 70.4 113 5,444 Women (W) 69.7 112 5,327 Women (R) 67.8 108 4,982 Course Architect: Tom Bendelow Greens: Bent Grass Fairways: Rye Grass Club Rentals: Yes Practice Facilities: *- Driving Range *- Putting Green *- Mat tees *- PGA instruction Dining Facilities: Snack Bar Dress Code: Appropriate Golf Attire

I played this course for the first time in late November. I got a deal online, 18 holes for $16 bucks. I'm sitting there on a Par 5, not a soul in site. How can I have a massive expanse of land, in the middle of a major urban city, all to myself, for just $16 bucks? No rush, no fuss, take as much time as you damn well please. Sure, the course isn't exquisitely manicured, but neither were the original links courses in Scotland. The value here is off the charts. If you're a spoiled, rarified dandy that needs perfect conditions, this isn't your place. For everyone else, Jackson Park rocks out loud.

So yes, I have taken a full and complete look at this business and my experiences with it and simply had a different experience than others. I took lessons here awhile back and have recently been taking lessons at a different business recently. The lessons at My Chicago Golf started out well. Marcus was attentive and was able to make a difference in my game. Things were going well. That is, until, he slept through one of our scheduled appointments. His system sends out numerous reminders about upcoming appointments to customers. Unfortunately, it seems that it only sends them out to his customers, and not to him. We had an appointment scheduled, and I showed up fifteen minutes early. His storefront was locked, and knocking and ringing the doorbell did not yield any type of response. Unfortunately, emailing, texting, and leaving voicemails also did not make a difference either as they all went unanswered. After waiting about forty-five minutes for a sixty minute lesson, he finally opened the door. At that time, however, the customer for the next hour was already waiting at the door! That customer was courteous enough to let me use his scheduled hour, and he rescheduled with Marcus. As the lesson went on, Marcus did apologize for sleeping through it. He said that he overscheduled himself that morning, which caused him to oversleep during a nap. He was definitely drowsy throughout the appointment, and wasn't entirely alert or focused on my swing. What disappointed me the most, however, was that he didn't take responsibility for his mishap. Mistakes happen to everyone. Apologizing is only the first step in taking responsibility for those mistakes. He didn't offer an extra free lesson or a refund, or anything for that matter, to make up for his major mistake. This last part that is why he is losing two stars. If he would have taken responsibility for his failures, I wouldn't be as disappointed with him. I even would have used the final lessons I had in the package I purchased. Instead, I let them go unused because I was so let down by him. Missing an appointment completely without notice and/or an acceptable reason is a huge negative and a large problem. These lessons are not cheap. What's even worse is not taking responsibility for it. Mistakes can be overlooked, if the person making those mistakes owns up to them and takes responsibility. Unfortunately that didn't happen here.

As someone who is just getting started golfing, he has really stressed the fundamentals while still pushing me to get to a point where I have the necessary skills to be able to practice and grow independently. The difference I see after each lesson is measurable and I've always left with things to practice (with videos demonstrating the exercise) so I can continue to see growth. Additionally, his location is a fantastic setup with some of the newest golf simulator technology to really enhance the lesson experience. I did a fair amount of research on different golf instructors and facilities in Chicago and am thrilled I landed on My Chicago Golf. I can't recommend Marcus and My Chicago Golf enough.

We were there early in the day so it wasn't very busy, but there's virtual golf, a shuffleboard table, a bar and probably more stuff that we didn't see. In one hour we fit in two games with four people pretty much perfectly (we picked up the pace in round 2). The digital scorekeeping is very helpful! Watch out for the ball return: it spat out the ball onto the floor about half the time, so mind your feet! It was very hot in the place despite it not being terribly warm outside; we were all sweating! We happened to be there on a Sunday at 9pm, where there was a discount for $25/hour. We stayed until closing at 11pm and it was fun. It also want busy. I believe there were 11 bays, each with their own club set. The downside was probably the tech didn't always capture angles and whatnot correctly so there were a few glitches on occasion. We also didn't have every club in the golf bag they provided so it would be nice to have that organized. It's also on the pricey end. Overall, it was our first time doing the experience and we enjoyed it. There seems to be other locations with a different atmosphere perhaps we can check out on another visit. Happy exploring!
