Whenever I have a rating that goes against what others' ratings are for a particular business, I make sure to thoroughly evaluate all aspects of the business and my experiences of it. So yes, I have taken a full and complete look at this business and my experiences with it and simply had a different experience than others. I took lessons here awhile back and have recently been taking lessons at a different business recently. The lessons at My Chicago Golf started out well. Marcus was attentive and was able to make a difference in my game. Things were going well. That is, until, he slept through one of our scheduled appointments. His system sends out numerous reminders about upcoming appointments to customers. Unfortunately, it seems that it only sends them out to his customers, and not to him. We had an appointment scheduled, and I showed up fifteen minutes early. His storefront was locked, and knocking and ringing the doorbell did not yield any type of response. Unfortunately, emailing, texting, and leaving voicemails also did not make a difference either as they all went unanswered. After waiting about forty-five minutes for a sixty minute lesson, he finally opened the door. At that time, however, the customer for the next hour was already waiting at the door! That customer was courteous enough to let me use his scheduled hour, and he rescheduled with Marcus. As the lesson went on, Marcus did apologize for sleeping through it. He said that he overscheduled himself that morning, which caused him to oversleep during a nap. He was definitely drowsy throughout the appointment, and wasn't entirely alert or focused on my swing. What disappointed me the most, however, was that he didn't take responsibility for his mishap. Mistakes happen to everyone. Apologizing is only the first step in taking responsibility for those mistakes. He didn't offer an extra free lesson or a refund, or anything for that matter, to make up for his major mistake. This last part that is why he is losing two stars. If he would have taken responsibility for his failures, I wouldn't be as disappointed with him. I even would have used the final lessons I had in the package I purchased. Instead, I let them go unused because I was so let down by him. Missing an appointment completely without notice and/or an acceptable reason is a huge negative and a large problem. These lessons are not cheap. What's even worse is not taking responsibility for it. Mistakes can be overlooked, if the person making those mistakes owns up to them and takes responsibility. Unfortunately that didn't happen here. read more

Marcus, the owner, has been a fantastic coach so far. He's very charismatic and patient when explaining and demonstrating any feedback. As someone who is just getting started golfing, he has really stressed the fundamentals while still pushing me to get to a point where I have the necessary skills to be able to practice and grow independently. The difference I see after each lesson is measurable and I've always left with things to practice (with videos demonstrating the exercise) so I can continue to see growth. Additionally, his location is a fantastic setup with some of the newest golf simulator technology to really enhance the lesson experience. I did a fair amount of research on different golf instructors and facilities in Chicago and am thrilled I landed on My Chicago Golf. I can't recommend Marcus and My Chicago Golf enough. read more

Marcus is a very talented coach. he has a fun, relaxed personality and my daughter loves him, as he never talks down to kids. my dad, husband, and daughter had a prior coach who moved from chi who we loved and we reluctantly had to admit that Marcus is better. His lessons are highly personalized: he learns your distances and has a perceptive technical eye for your specific issues, and he gives a few digestible pointers and makes them stick. He uses technology in a powerful way to do this. I spent the last 8 months doing weekly lessons and Marcus helped me build my swing from scratch after a terrible injury leaving me barely able to walk a year and a half ago. I am a complete beginner and tried a few lessons with Marcus. Initially, it was pleasant but things changed on the 6th lesson as he got too comfortable with me. He spent 10 minutes just talking about a golf course for a 150 dollar one hour lesson. Then during the lesson he screamed at me how I wasn't a PGA pro when I kept missing some shots. Shocked, at his outburst, I didn't say anything and wanted to continue. However, in a fit of rage he told me he was ending lesson. He didn't offer a refund and sent me on my way. It's clear he is unstable and has deep seeded personal issues. I had waited for an apology and didn't get one until I texted him about the unprofessional behavior. It was the weirdest thing. It's clear he only cares about making money from his clients and believes he can act how he wants because he owns the place. Terrible, unprofessional behavior. There's a previous review of him oversleeping another persons lesson, missing their lesson, and not even offering a refund. This guy just wants your money. DO NOT work with this company if you are a beginner. Marcus will try to take advantage of you. He kept pushing lessons on me, will waste time talking to fill up the time, and will scream and end the lesson early. read more

SO much more than I expected! I just had my son's 13th birthday party here and LOVED it! Such a cool yet cozy, comfortable setting for kids and adults alike! Xbox, darts, 80" TV, killer roof top deck, Touch Tunes, wet bar, byob/byof...and of course the golf simulators...which were a huge hit with contests for my competitive boys!! I already knew first hand Mike is a great golf instructor but he was also a great party host/emcee...he totally knew how to handle and entertain this energetic group of boys! Yesterday I had my first lesson with Marcus (a short game clinic at Robert Black) and can't wait to schedule more. He took the time to ask about my game, experience level, and the issues I commonly run into. When I arrived at the putting green he had already set up several drills to work on my putting and chipping. I appreciated the thought and planning that had clearly gone into the lesson. What I really liked about his teaching style is that he doesn't just tell you what you're doing wrong, but explains why the error is creating the particular undesirable outcome (e.g. "your clubface is closed at impact, which makes the ball go to the left.") For me, knowing why one thing leads to another helps me better remember how to fix it for next time. I'm definitely looking forward to more lessons, and to checking out his indoor space to avoid rust build-up over the winter. read more

Visited for the first time today and I had so much fun. Mike was very welcoming and the facility is top notch. The simulators used were easy to use, reliable and top of the line. I haven't played in a while so I came in for a practice session to get an idea of my yardages for each club. I ended up learning that and getting a ton more! (driver launch and spin stats, swing feels) The practice area has mirrors strategically placed so you can work on your positions from face on or down the line views while you're on the simulator. Mike was super passionate about golf and equipment. Even though I was there only to practice, he let me try some Taylormade clubs for fun too. If you are passionate about golf, this place is for you. If you think you're gonna take a lesson and instantly be good at golf, it doesn't work that way. It takes time, persistence, concentration, and a chip on your shoulder. That being said, Marcus at My Chicago Golf is a good...no a great person to start your golf journey with. He doesn't make you feel dumb, and that to me is one of the most important features of a golf instructor. He's patient, has top notch simulators and video equipment to evaluate your swing, his online reservation system is super easy to use, and he's even got some free video tutorials on his site if you want to see what he's all about. Just celebrated my son's 8th birthday party at My Chicago Golf with a group of 12 7-8 year old boys and they had an absolute blast. Golf, video games, darts, and jukebox....all of this kept the boys entertained for the entire 3 hour party that they did not want to leave when the party was over. My son is an absolute golf nut and loved the first class golf simulator. Not all golf simulators are made the same. The lower quality simulators don't track swing speed, ball spin, club angle or the ball properly which equates to incorrect distances and club selections. The simulators at My Chicago Golf do all of this and more. So if your looking for a party or to work on your game with lessons this is the place. Mike Jonas is a golf instructor at My Chicago Golf and was unbelievably helpful from beginning to end when planning the party. He made everything very easy and even helped on his own time to assist in getting items for the golf gift bags that was given to the boys. First class!....Thank you Mike! A good location for a work place outing. Most of us in our group didn't know how to play golf and had never played before so this was a great intro to Golf event for us. Place is BYOB and BYOF. Can't comment on pricing since this was a work sponsored event. In addition to golf simulator, they also have video games, juke box, darts and rooftop with a nice view of the city. My Chicago Golf is an excellent way to work on your golf game or enjoy a social outing with friends. I took lessons over two years with Mike Jonas. I was in a unique situation as I dealt with a back injury. Mike worked closely with me to gradually work on my swing over time to ensure I didn't aggravate my injury. I learned endless tips and fixes to help my swing from Mike and took ~5-10 strokes off my game. I recommended Mike to a couple friends who also changed swing coaches to Mike after their first visit. The golf simulator used for lessons/social is top notch and extremely accurate in helping you understand your swing. Location is easy to get to and an excellent alternative to the half day trip to play golf in Chicago (especially those with kids who can't get away too often for a round). Marcus runs a really great little operation. His instruction is easy to remember and easily applicable on the course. His use of video technology to help you visualize your swing on a big screen, particularly the inverse visual comparison to a professional, really helps raise awareness of your own mechanics. The first time you go you will learn a lot, but keep going back, you will see the difference in your game. My sister knew of my love for golf. She also knew how bad I was at golf. To fix this for my 30th birthday she got me lessons with Marcus at My Chicago Golf. After exchanging several emails with Marcus and finding a time that worked for me I came in on a Saturday afternoon and knocked out an hour lesson. I told Marcus what I wanted to work on (iron's) and he helped me with my posture, swing, club placement, grip and swing motion. He even showed me what I was doing wrong with my swing compared to pro's on tour. All in an hour. I have played 4 times since meeting with Marcus and I have dropped 10/15 strokes off my game. I purchased a Groupon for my son. The Groupon was for 4 lessons for a junior golfer. That was about a year ago. My son improved more with those lessons than he had in 6 months prior to that with another instructor. We have continued the lessons with Marcus since then (almost weekly). My 14 yr old son can be a contrarian (shocking, I'm sure), yet really enjoys working with Marcus. We have been very happy with Marcus, and feel that the lessons are a great value. I am a social golfer, 21 handicap, about to go on an epic Scotland golf trip with the guys, so I signed up for lessons with Marcus Yado -- bottom line, the lessons have been terrific! Marcus teaches out of a store called Proline Golf (River West I think - I'm new in town) using video and launch monitor technology to help the student. He's clearly an expert teacher and student of the game; I've read a lot of golf magazines, McLean, Pelz, and Marcus clearly knows that literature and can answer any question about technique I could possibly ask. I particularly appreciated that all my little technical questions were fully addressed even when they were tangential to the issue of the moment in the lesson. Would highly recommend for indoor golf simulators. Great place to fine tune your game with lessons from Marcus or hang with the buddies and have a good time playing a round of golf. The only downfall is Left and Right handed golfers can't play at the same time as the camera needs moved but overall a GREAT set up with a super nice owner. Will definitely be going back. read more
