Lovely to look at. I live a block away. I was excited for a day out of the house with a friend. Until I met the staff. Well, this is where it gets odd. This was my 1st time golfing. Not at your course, I mean ever. We were yelled at the second we entered because we brought our bags inside. There is no sign against it; no warning about leaving your bags outside. I tell them it's our very 1st time. No assistance. Awkward start. We pay & walk outside. Cart up to the 1st hole. We tell the oldest gent we are brand spanking new. He rolls his eyes & starts rattling off colors of flags (with no mention of what they are). Later we realize he means blue, red, & yellow. After swinging he comes to tell us we have to play in a separate way because we are terrible (thanks so much). We get halfway down the 1st hole & he comes to scold us again. Did I mention he pairs us with two old ladies in their 80's... lovely. How fun. We notice this guy keeps circling us in his cart every few minutes & by this point has told us we are too slow at least 3 times. We are seriously doing our best. No encouragement or advice on how to be better. At hole 5 another gent drives up to scold us about a slew of things. I remind him this is our VERY 1st time golfing. I let him know we have already been scorned by the 1st asshole & tell him to politely quit being so aggressive. He apologized for his rude coworker & tells us a few hints to help. He seems to actually care but is quite busy. He moves on. We get 1/2 way down the 5th hole & he tells us to pick our balls up. We are not allowed to finish that hole. We are forced to skip the next hole & he sends us to the 7th. We are told to come back on a slow day during the week as to not bother the other golfers. He gives us a credit to play again next time. Aka, we basically got hassled the whole time while trying our best. We got kicked off the course for not being good. We tried very hard to keep the pace of play. We played furthest ball. We rushed so quickly & picked up so many balls we didn't even keep score. We all left the golf course angry at these old boys for not helping or being even a little polite. I've honestly never experienced anything where it felt like I wasn't wanted. The lack of customer service was disgusting. Seriously rude environment. For our credit, we had practiced at driving ranges, we bought our own clubs, we got a cart to be faster. Nothing helped; they were just rude from the start. If you're nice when I come back with a voucher I'll change it to reflect the level of service I'm given. You guys are assholes.

I played a round at Robert A. Black for the first time and it was fun, easy and quick. I arrived as a walk on during a Saturday, late afternoon time and there was no line at the pro shop counter. The gentleman that helped me was friendly and thorough, explaining the fees, options available to me and where to start. After picking up my push cart, I proceeded to the starter who gave me the option to go solo or join the group about to tee off. I decided to go with the latter. The condition of the course was good with defined fairways and fluffy sand traps. Most of my clubs were put to good use, but be mindful that accuracy is important. The greens however were a bit inconsistent and I found some of them to be quick while others were slower. Overall though, it kept for a good challenge, considering the fact that the course of pretty short. I got my round of 9 in just under 2 hours, no waiting at holes and no one pushing us from behind. For a city course in a densely populated neighborhood, it made for a great Saturday afternoon round of golf. Is it Medinah or TPC Sawgrass? No, but it's affordable, fun and I will be back.

So yes, I have taken a full and complete look at this business and my experiences with it and simply had a different experience than others. I took lessons here awhile back and have recently been taking lessons at a different business recently. The lessons at My Chicago Golf started out well. Marcus was attentive and was able to make a difference in my game. Things were going well. That is, until, he slept through one of our scheduled appointments. His system sends out numerous reminders about upcoming appointments to customers. Unfortunately, it seems that it only sends them out to his customers, and not to him. We had an appointment scheduled, and I showed up fifteen minutes early. His storefront was locked, and knocking and ringing the doorbell did not yield any type of response. Unfortunately, emailing, texting, and leaving voicemails also did not make a difference either as they all went unanswered. After waiting about forty-five minutes for a sixty minute lesson, he finally opened the door. At that time, however, the customer for the next hour was already waiting at the door! That customer was courteous enough to let me use his scheduled hour, and he rescheduled with Marcus. As the lesson went on, Marcus did apologize for sleeping through it. He said that he overscheduled himself that morning, which caused him to oversleep during a nap. He was definitely drowsy throughout the appointment, and wasn't entirely alert or focused on my swing. What disappointed me the most, however, was that he didn't take responsibility for his mishap. Mistakes happen to everyone. Apologizing is only the first step in taking responsibility for those mistakes. He didn't offer an extra free lesson or a refund, or anything for that matter, to make up for his major mistake. This last part that is why he is losing two stars. If he would have taken responsibility for his failures, I wouldn't be as disappointed with him. I even would have used the final lessons I had in the package I purchased. Instead, I let them go unused because I was so let down by him. Missing an appointment completely without notice and/or an acceptable reason is a huge negative and a large problem. These lessons are not cheap. What's even worse is not taking responsibility for it. Mistakes can be overlooked, if the person making those mistakes owns up to them and takes responsibility. Unfortunately that didn't happen here.

As someone who is just getting started golfing, he has really stressed the fundamentals while still pushing me to get to a point where I have the necessary skills to be able to practice and grow independently. The difference I see after each lesson is measurable and I've always left with things to practice (with videos demonstrating the exercise) so I can continue to see growth. Additionally, his location is a fantastic setup with some of the newest golf simulator technology to really enhance the lesson experience. I did a fair amount of research on different golf instructors and facilities in Chicago and am thrilled I landed on My Chicago Golf. I can't recommend Marcus and My Chicago Golf enough.

We were there early in the day so it wasn't very busy, but there's virtual golf, a shuffleboard table, a bar and probably more stuff that we didn't see. In one hour we fit in two games with four people pretty much perfectly (we picked up the pace in round 2). The digital scorekeeping is very helpful! Watch out for the ball return: it spat out the ball onto the floor about half the time, so mind your feet! It was very hot in the place despite it not being terribly warm outside; we were all sweating! Overall though, I was thrilled to have an opportunity to go bowling again since I haven't been able to in quite a while.

We happened to be there on a Sunday at 9pm, where there was a discount for $25/hour. We stayed until closing at 11pm and it was fun. The system allows you to explore different courses, practice on the driving range, record yourself to watch your form, and good and drinks. The staff were friendly, considering it's Chicago. It also want busy. I believe there were 11 bays, each with their own club set. The downside was probably the tech didn't always capture angles and whatnot correctly so there were a few glitches on occasion. We also didn't have every club in the golf bag they provided so it would be nice to have that organized. It's also on the pricey end. Overall, it was our first time doing the experience and we enjoyed it. There seems to be other locations with a different atmosphere perhaps we can check out on another visit. Happy exploring!
