We stopped in during the special where women could play a free session on wednesdays in June! We RSVPed via event Brite so we were also given a welcome glass of champagne, such a nice touch! It was all of our first time so we weren't really sure how it worked. Eventually the hostess came by and gave us a brief rundown which was enough to get started with the tech. We still didn't really know what we were doing in terms of what clubs to use etc but gave it a shot. About an hour in, one of the staff instructors came around to help with that but it was brief and I feel like we still didn't quite know the very basics, like which club to use, how to hold it, how to swing properly. Eventually another girl joined our session and she had a ton of pointers and got us back to basics, which made it enjoyable! I didn't end up ordering food but it looked good. The servers checked on us a bunch at first which makes sense. There was a little pressure to join their subscription for $5 the first month, but to be expected for a free experience. The staff was very kind! I just wish we had a little more guidance as first-timers, especially with the nature of this promo. read more

Come on! Can't get any better. Their golf sim is like no other. If you love to analyze your swing as you play, this is the best place to go. It takes vids in multiple views and help you understand your swings. The ambiance is cool, posh, and fun! The bathrooms have a shower and all the amenities you'll need. You really shouldn't sweat while you golf, but if you do, they got you covered! The hourly rate is a bit high but look at the real estate here, in the middle of downtown with all the shops and restaurants, you'll see why it they must charge this high. $65/Hr during the time we were there. IF you're able to actually swing a club, the place is good. The problem is they don't know how to hold the reservation. They've cancelled my reservation too many times to count, due to a "full buyout". The most recent time happened less than 24 hrs before my reservation. They seem to be ok taking the money for a full buyout and not caring at all about the repeat customer. read more

If you take your time and ask for assistance in help with the laptop and screen setup before you hit the first ball. And stay away from a station near the window on a sunny afternoon because that will not let you see the screen on the laptop at all. Great place to analyze your golf swing! read more

Just finished a Callaway Tour driver fitting with Sean Bready at 5 Iron Golf in the Loop. Highly recommend you work with Sean. He's very personable, incredibly competent, and only interested in finding you the best combination of shaft and head. Unlike many fitting studios, he doesn't try to steer you into a more expensive shaft --- in fact, the combo we settled on together was a stock offering. If you're a member, currently you can even get a fitting with Sean for free, although I'd still recommend him if there's an upcharge. As for the staff at 5 Iron in general, it's one of the most welcoming groups I could imagine. Customer service is 5 star: I always feel as soon as I enter that I'm at one of my golf homes/refuges during the long Chicago winter. read more

Unfortunately, I never made it into Five Iron. I reached out to group reservations to reserve space for 17 people for a work outing. Heather Y. was very responsive and helpful and helped me to move quickly through the process of setting up this work event (or so I thought). Before finalizing the payment, I had to get clearance from my director. Heather and I had been discussing that payment needed to be made to guarantee our spot, so shortly after emailing with her, I made the payment in full. I reached out to her on Monday (holiday for some) to see if we could move our time up by 30 minutes and to inquire about how to place our food order. I didn't hear back on Monday, so I followed up with another email today (Tuesday). I was told that our reservation was not valid because although we paid, we didn't sign the contract. When I explained to Heather that I felt it her responsibility to tell me what the next step was, because in our email exchange, the focus was all about making a payment to secure the reservation, she went on to explain that another group called through Customer Service and booked our time slot, and the company prioritized that reservation over mine through events. While she admitted this shouldn't have been done, she also told me very clearly that there was nothing she could do but move us to another location and cover our travel expenses. During the time of day, it would take what is typically a 15 minute drive, 30-45 minutes, which would not work for us. She then asked me if I wanted to cancel and receive a refund. There seemed to be little consideration for the fact that I had 17 execs expecting to convene here tomorrow. My frustration was also that she didn't take responsibility from the start, but tried to blame me, until I pushed back. I'm disappointed in how this was handled. I'm waiting for a callback from someone else, but definitely plan to put this on my "blacklist" of businesses to avoid. read more

This was a fun spot to visit on a cold night. They have several golf bays which you reserve online, for small or large groups. They also have a bar seating area you can hang out in before or after your reservation. The technology works well, the environment is relaxed and fun, and my fiancé and I enjoyed ourselves. We got drinks and a few snacks during our 2 hour bay reservation. The rental price for a bay is a little steep if you don't go with a larger group, but no terrible. Of course the downside to going with a larger group, is that though you pay less per person you get less play time for each person. Staff were nice and helpful, but my only complaint is that our reservation was supposed to start on the hour, but the group before us was finishing up a game and we didn't end up getting onto the bay until about a quarter after, which is fine, no problem, but then when our time slot was coming to an end, we were rushed off and told we couldn't finish the game we were in, and actually were kicked off the bay a few minutes before our reservation technically ended. So sort of annoying how that went and we ended up missing out on time we paid for since we got on late and were booted off early. read more

Catching up on Yelp reviews as it's been a minute... Alright Frankie, fair warning this will be a pretty long review because there are multiple things to discuss (intro, play golf pitch, lessons, reserving bays, dining, closing)... Five Iron (5I) Golf is New York based and they are spreading their footprint nationwide. They have had a location in River North for a few years now, they just opened this location in Block 37 back in December, and they are opening a new location in Lincoln Park too. The place is very modern as it's brand new and all of the locations have state of the art golf technology with their SkyTrak simulators with over 100 different courses and a driving range. There are 11 bays, a putting green, full bar, and kitchen at this location. I must say the technology is one of the most accurate thing I have ever seen and the statistics/video technology is mind blowing. So kudos! I have been playing golf since my Dad got me into it at a young age, but it never really became a passion of mine until around high school. IMO, it's the greatest sport in the world as it not only challenges you as it's one of the toughest sport in the world to master, but it teaches you about morals, life in the real world, and a whole bunch of other perks. Not going to lie, but I suck at golf... Golf is hard folks! However, I am better than average and now I am committing time/practice to the game as I started up lessons with Kyle H. at this location. Kyle has been absolutely spectacular so far, the best coach I have ever had, and I think I am making some big progress with his help!!! I just need to commit time to practice more. I think the price of lessons are actually a good value given the great instruction of Kyle and the technology, specifically the video technology so you can watch your swing and it shows you how to improve your swing as you can see what you need to do better. Let's dig into how 5I works and you can find everything on their website, but here are my thoughts with my experiences. You reserve bays and lessons all online and I highly recommend booking at least 3 days in advance (more like a week), especially on weekends as it fills up fast. Good luck trying to find reservations a few days in advance during prime times as there are only 11 bays and I learned with the River North location so I assume it's the same way as there are a lot of golfers in Chicago. But I have never had an issue with booking a few days in advance for weeknights before 7pm. Costs are based on peak reservations (majority of the time) and non-peak reservations (think noon on a weekday). Playing hookey from work and golfing would be the life! I believe club rentals are included in the reservation prices, but most people bring your own. Not going to lie, reserving a bay is expensive ($65/hour peak and $50/hour non-peak). So golfing with a group is the way to go. However, if you are a serious golfer, want to play 18, and keep costs down, I would highly recommend limiting it to 2-3 players with similar skill levels and pace of play. With my average high 90s scores, it takes about 2 hours to play 18 for me and my buddy of similar skill level. Obviously the better you are or faster at pace of play, you can play faster and keep costs down. Food is solid overall, think standard bar food. Nothing spectacular, but it's above average to great. It's very comparable to a Whirlyball/TopGolf food experience. Meals are decent portions and prices are rather cheap actually. Sliders were great! Nachos were good. Flatbreads are ok, crust was a little dry. Beers, cocktails, and drinks are fair prices. Shout out to Joey, the bartender as he is great and always fun to talk to! Overall, I think 5I is a great addition to Chicago! I think their entire staff is good and their company mission is to help grow the game. That is definitely a good thing! Costs are expensive, but the game of golf is expensive in general. Hopefully for this review, you don't get the wrong impression of me being cheap. IMO I am not cheap, I am just a frugal guy (very) and I am very passionate at where my hard earned money goes. But in the end, if you want to play golf or are a beginner and want to learn how to play then definitely check out 5I golf! read more
