as a beginner golfer, Gabe helped improve my game right away. In an only an hour i learned a ton about my swing and where I can improve as a player. He made golf relatable and easier to understand - highly recommend. read more

Hidden gem! Almost hate to write this out of fear it becomes inaccessible. Gabe is a real professional with infinite knowledge of the game. His facility is awesome and I'm glad to have found this place. 10/10 recommend, BYOB and great hourly rates. read more

I am a certified client from Gabe Rios Golf. I bought a package deal in 2018 when I started playing golf. I should have done more research and taken one lesson from several places prior to buying a package deal from this place. I admit this was my hasty bad decision. At initial stage, Gabe was fine. He taught me the basic theories and motions etc. in the first two or three lessons. I also remember him saying that since I bought the package deal, he will spend additional time to improve my game. As time passed by, his real time spent on me for each session was like 15-20mins? and rest was just practicing myself (Gabe walking around and taking phone calls) even though it was supposed to be the whole 50min-1hr 1:1 session. As I wanted to get better, I asked several questions during each session or through text messages, but his way/saying of teaching was becoming very arrogant and bossy. As sessions went by, I felt that this guy was very indifferent about my improvement in golfing. On top of it, the package deal includes going out to the field together. He just didn't do it. I will give an excuse with the pandemic. If I try to find a good thing from Gabe, I would say he at least texted me back when I asked Q's outside of sessions whether it helped me or not. I also wanted to add one thing. Just because the client looks younger and being polite doesn't mean that you can take advantage of it and get loosen up as sessions went by. If this is not the case, then do better to other clients being more consistent throughout the sessions. Bottom line from my experience and atmosphere felt during the whole period, 1. If you are a beginner and want a package deal, go somewhere else after trying out one lesson from other places. 2. If you just want to book this place for a party/drinking, I think it will be okay from the reviews I read. read more

Gabe is awesome, dramatically improved my game, and his shop is a fun place to hang out.

Let me preface this by saying, I know my game needs improvement, hence why I spent $150.00....But being completely honest, I found this to be a huge waste of money. Gabe barely introduced himself so from the get go... the "lesson" was awkward to say the least... Throughout the lesson I think Gabe probably spent about 60% of the time talking about his other clients and their problems... this wasn't relevant or helpful... I found him to be arrogant, disinterested and to put the icing on the cake.... his parting words while he left the room to see another client was "shoot me an email or something".... Do you want more business? Are you actually interested in helping me work on my game? I cannot think of a single word of encouragement throughout our session.... He focused on what was wrong with my swing, but other than having me continue to swing, offered very little advice to improve what I was doing... For $150.00 I got to use a trackman for 1 hour and learn about how Bill isn't a good golfer... and apparently I am not good enough to even put forth effort to earn me as a reoccurring client. My advice...go find somewhere else, this isn't what you are looking for, nor should you waste your money. Truly disappointed as I was looking forward to this "lesson" read more

Gabe is an excellent teacher who is able to connect with you and your golf swing issues and how to improve. He is patient and has great techniques and strategies to make you a better golfer. I would highly recommend him, he really does make golf fun. read more

Great experience. Hit some balls on both his simulators and got some feedback from his trackman equipment. Gabe gave me advice on clubs to get and spent time talking me through swing speed, lofts etc. He just expanded and opened up a new portion of his facility. It looks like a great place for a corporate event or party (simulator, big TV, pool table etc). Get down there and see it for yourself! Thanks Gabe. read more

Gabe is a great coach. My wife and I have been seeing him off and on since early Spring 2015. His rates are competitive, he offers different packages to fit your budget. Gabe is accomodating and he took us out to a golf course in the summer and it was great to play on the course with him coaching us. After watching you swing a few times he immediately knows what you're doing wrong which is extremely helpful when trying to improve your swing. He just moved his business to Damen Ave and the facility is great. The new facility has one extra area to practice as you wait for a lesson with the swing monitor. read more

I found Gabe Rios Golf by going to a local indoor range to get some swings in. Gabe gave me a quick free lesson on how to hold the club and where to stand/position from the ball. Fast forward about a year later... I came to Gabe for lessons after playing my first full summer of golf. I currently shoot around 100, meaning if I can break 100 I'm a happy guy. I really enjoy the game, but couldn't figure out how to stop slicing the driver. This is killing my game and it needed to change. I went on every YouTube channel and watched shows and listened to friends advice but nothing helped. In about 5 minutes Gabe was able to analyze my swing and provide three solutions to correct it. We spent the rest of the session working on best practices while I'm at the range so I don't go back to slicing into the other fairway. I am really excited that I'm no longer slicing. I am going to continue my lessons with Gabe to get comfortable with my new driver swing as well as build solid ball striking consistency with my irons. I highly recommend Gabe for his knowledge of the golf swing and being able to break that down for me so I'm not overthinking it. He commits his full attention to you, he's pretty funny, has interesting analogies, and is very responsive with booking times. He also does some free clinics from time to time that I've been to. It's cool to meet other golf enthusiasts/students of the game there and talk shop. If you're new or old to golf and live in the city, give Gabe a try. I'm happy with the whole experience. read more

Gabe was able to produce some very sound advice that helped my game immediately. I was only able to meet with him for a limited time, and in that time he showed me two new swings that already are helping my game the first time out. He also worked through some adjustments to my current game that were quite helpful as well. His swing analysis is pretty high tech. I have golf trip in a couple weeks, and am able to go into the trip with some new confidence and new tricks. He recco'd a couple new clubs that will fill some gaps in my game as well, and educated me a bit on the clubs I had in my bag already. I'm an "above average" golfer, but can see his advice working for beginners and experienced golfers alike. He's very approachable, and very patient. Not overly confident like other pro's. I'll use him again for sure. VERY satisfied. read more

Gabe does an outstanding job working to find solutions to fix your swing. He makes lesson fun. His goals to get you having fun again on the course. read more

Gabe Rios is the man! Knowledge of the swing is insane. The fundamentals you can learn to apply based on his suggestions are incredible, they positively impact your swing lesson 1. I had lessons with someone else in the past, and I ended up complaining and demanding a refund, so I was a bit hesitant at first to do any more lessons. Not with Gabe, I am now figuring out how many more I should get. He has his own shop on Lester and Damen pretty much, it is great. 2 simulators, TV's, a small kitchen to keep your beer and snacks. It is great, Gabe also likes to entertain groups coming in to play and will order pizza and make it a great time. Truly a great establishment and I hope he is around a long time. read more

I had a great day on the course with Gabe. If you think a driving range lesson is "good enough" you are missing the boat. When Gabe has you on the course, the lessons translate in real time. On my day out there, I picked up one lesson that helped me add about 50 yards to a drive while straightening it out AND another item that helped a ton with my chipping. My guests were also impressed with how "hands on" Gabe could be in recording us to give feedback and give us each individual attention in the foursome setting. Take Gabe up on the opportunity for an "on course" lesson. You won't be disappointed. read more

Gabe has a gift of identifying golfers challenges! He was able to replicate my issue and showcase the way to improve immediately. He's a great golf pro & all-around great guy! I would highly recommend his instruction packages to anyone wanting to improve their game at any level. read more

Gabe is one remarkable person, very personal and professional. Prior to Gabe, I had the unfortunate pleasure of receiving golf lessons from another 'Pro' who seemed to not really care about my personal advancement; rather, it felt as if he was just going through the motions of a lesson. I did not feel I received my money's worth so it came time for me to search for other options. There could not have been a more better time for me to be introduced to Gabe Rios! Gabe's approach was much different, in that he demonstrated a great wealth of patience and worked at pace that was my speed. His knowledge of the game is very good and he can explain things in such a way that make clear sense to me. His rates are very fair and he will even work with you on packages that fit your budget and schedule, so that you feel you are getting the best for your investment! I plan on inviting my wife to join as well and we can both benefit from Gabe's coaching! I plan on continuing my education of the game of golf through Gabe Rios and I highly recommend visiting his (new) clean, state of the art facility! read more

I saw Gabe earlier in the month and had an awful experience. I have had very few formal lessons over the years and did not find his instruction helpful at all. He was rather arrogant, looked exhausted probably from honoring all of the Groupons. To sum it up- as I was leaving he handed me a sleeve of 2 golf balls and said, "Here are a few bullets to spray all over the course." Why I did not say something in the moment is beyond me. read more

I decided that this was going to be the summer I spent time trying to get "OK" at golf so that it could be fun for me and my 10 year old. I found Gabe via a Groupon. He spent 45 minutes with me hitting into the simulator and immediately gave me THREE simple things to think about when I swing. The simulator helped a ton as i was able to "see" where the ball was going and how far. He took the time to explain to me why what I was doing was causing the results. He is very laid back and easy going. I went out the next morning and had never hit the ball as solidly or as straight. It was extremely fun to try to make a shot and then actually execute the shot just keeping three simple things in mind. I shot 50 on a nine hole course - I usually can't even keep score! There is still a ton of room for improvement, but it is fun and I'm excited to continue to learn. AND I beat my ten year old by four stroke...it won't last long! Gabe is great! read more

I went to Gabe with awful fundamentals. He broke down my technique and was great at explaining the changes but more importantly why we were making these changes. He also helped me understand how different swings and actions and approaches can produce different ball flights. We used his state of the art system to identify and diagnose the flaws in my swing. The ability to take a shot and then have him pull it up on screen so you have instant feedback is extremely valuable. We put together a 3 month plan including one on one sessions and video break down and then additional range times to let me come in and work on the changes he was coaching me through. Today I played the best round of my life and shot an 89. All the credit goes to Gabe he was exceptionally patient and vested in my overall success. Thank you! In addition to his golf knowledge and teaching skill he is also a great friend to have beyond being a teacher. read more

Gabe Rios is an excellent golf instructor. I have been taking lessons from Gabe for about five years now and my scores have steadily improved. If you live in the city and you are thinking about taking golf lessons, be sure to give Gabe a call. Gabe is very knowledgeable about the golf swing and he is a very patient teacher. His teaching style is relaxed and highly personalized. Gabe goes out of his way to find out what your goals are and then develop a plan to get you there. He is a PGA professional and knows all of the mechanics behind building a great swing, but he always makes sure to explain things in a way you can easily understand. I think he would be a great choice for someone who is just starting out in the game. I only wish I had met him earlier. He has a great new location on Damen with two hitting bays with simulators and a lounge area. Gabe is easy to get a hold of and very responsive. His hours are flexible. He has the ability to do on-course lessons which I found to be very productive. Gabe has proven to be trustworthy, and he also happens to be a very nice guy. I highly recommend Gabe Rios for anyone looking for quality golf lessons in the city. read more

Gabe was a huge help! After only golfing a handful of times in my life, Gabe quickly got me comfortable on the course and prevented me from embarrassing myself! read more

Gabe arranged a shared lesson for my wife and I at the last minute and it was perfect. He focused mostly on my wife (who is more of a beginner than me) and she came away very excited at the prospect of playing golf. His easy-going style was perfect for our skill level. He didn't overwhelm us with too many things to think about, but rather introduced basic fundamentals to build on. The indoor computer simulation was pretty cool, too. We look forward to getting a second lesson (and beyond). read more

Great instructor. Very easy to understand my own problems once he explained the issues. Through the video and simple instructions he had me hitting way better by the end of the lesson. All it takes now is loads of practice and taking it on to the course. read more

This place is great! We do a men's league where we order some pizza and have a good time hitting shots. Gabe runs the simulator for us and offers great tips along the way, so it's a great way to work on the golf game and get advice from one of the best instructors in Chicago. I highly recommend! read more

As a low-mid 90's golfer I wanted to put a little more emphasis on my game. I came to the conclusion that I needed some professional advice and searched the net for someone local and credentialed who had solid reviews from other golfers. I came across Gabe Rios golf, and decided to give it a try. This was my first golf lesson ever, so I was a little tenuous about what to expect. Gabe responded immediately to initial inquiries and I was able to book a session with him for a swing analysis. He asked some questions about my game and what I was coming in to accomplish. After watching the swing, he was quick to understand how my mechanics affected ball flight. He provided some suggestions, helped to correct my posture and my setup, and then we proceeded to analyze the new look and feel. The 45 minutes flew by, but I am sure his advice will go a long way in down the path of improving my game. Thanks Gabe! Highly recommended!!! read more

Gabe Rios is awesome! I found Gabe while searching for a place to swing inside over the winter. After Gabe gave me a few tips while I was getting swings in, I decided to start taking lessons from him. His easy going teaching approach has been extremely beneficial to my golf game. My ball striking has drastically improved and i'm hitting the ball 10-15 yards longer off each club. I highly recommend going to see Gabe Rios! read more

I have had Gabe Rios as my golf coach for more than five years, now, as he has moved from various sites to his new digs on Damen. He has stuck with me as I have evolved, as a late starter at golf, from a miserable beginner, to now getting satisfaction from my game. His new equipment set-up, just installed, as amazing in terms of helping him analyze golf swings and impart excellent ideas. Well worth the investment. David B. read more

Gabe Rios Golf is a great spot to get together with a group of guys to play golf or to get your game back in shape. Four of us rented the simulator out for a couple hours and played Cog Hill when it was 35 and snowing in Chicago. The simulator is more accurate than any of the others I've used around town. Which ends up making my consistent slice, even more consistent. Go with buddies or go get a lesson, You won't be disappointed. read more
