We ordered over the phone and were able to pick the food up within 15 minutes but it is quite pricey and not worth it in terms of the quality. I can not get enough of Jacks and it's high quality and great tasting food. The interior of all the locations is so clean and nicely payed out. Staff is great, friendly and does not rush you. We came with a party of 7. 4 were newbies and they will come back. I ordered the Tri-Tip plate with 2 sides ( broccoli and seasonal veggies) and the wife ordered the all time favorite Cajun Chicken sandwich. My daughter doesn't live up north anymore and she's been missing Jack's..we frequent the downtown and Natomas locations. Their create-your-own salad is usually pretty good with a healthy serving of tasty toppings of your choosing. Came in to this location since it was the closest to us. First time at the Davis spot. The person who took our order seemed uninterested in our order and bothered by our company. Two salads and one urban fry took about 20 minutes. The salads were not as good as we normally get - I'm not really sure why they didn't hit right...I hate to say we get more toppings at the other locations, because hey- maybe they're the ones doing it wrong and they've set our standards too high? Who knows. Sometimes salty service makes the food a little salty too. I was a little torn as to what rating to give Jack's because I have LOVED coming to Jack's for some healthy salads, sandwiches, and meat plates for about 3 years now. I think the quality of their food is really good, however I have to be honest with myself and say that the food is just "OK" and the prices are a bit high for a college student ballin on a budget. First, I LOVE the ambiance of this place. Very urban and modern. I definitely feel like I'm at a more "up-scale" restaurant rather than just a healthy "Fast-food" type place. I also love how quickly the food comes out. If you get a salad, it's ready for you by the time you finish paying. If you get a sandwich or a meat plate, it'll be ready in 5-10 minutes. Major points for those. My go-to meals are the Chinese Chicken Salad, a Build Your Own Salad, or the Lemon Thyme Chicken plate. Occasionally I'll throw in a Turkey Berry Sandwich or a BBQ Chicken Sandwich (both with a side of sweet potato fries of course), but only if I'm feeling feisty. Now the food is good, but there's nothing exceptional that stands out to me and makes me think "WOW I can only get this here and nowhere else". Pluto's can provide similar types of dishes at cheaper prices (if my memory serves me correct). Don't let that deter you from coming here! Again, I do feel like it's good quality food that hits the spot; it's just nothing exceptional and you could easily find it for a cheaper price elsewhere. Food took a long time to be ready, despite the restaurant almost being at less than 25% capacity. Food was overpriced for the size of the order as well. I was a bit skeptical about coming to Jack's Urban Eats in Davis. I had been to the Natomas location a few times, and I wasn't a huge fan of it. Jack's Urban Eats to me, is a pricier, less likable, version of Pluto's. But my friend wanted to go today or lunch so I said, what they hey, why not give it a try? I have to say that I enjoyed Jack's Urban Eats a lot more than I thought I would today. Maybe it was because of my lower expectations... but Jack's definitely exceeded them! The first thing I need to mention is the atmosphere of the restaurant - it is top notch. The interior is very welcoming and spacious. I particularly like the huge "Jacks'' lighted sign on the back wall. It's an awesome accent piece, and raise the level of the restaurant. Decor like that make the restaurant experience so much better. And the employees were great too. The staff was very welcoming and patient to those who were unfamiliar with the ordering process - or who just couldn't decide what to get. Smiles greeted all the customers, and I felt a real positive vibe permeate the restaurant. In terms of food, things were in a range from 'ok' to 'great'. I would have to put my Chinese Chicken Salad in the 'ok' range. The salad was a bit pricey, and it lacked a little something for me. It was topped with chicken, and had some crunchy noodles along with the lettuce, but the salad felt like it was missing that one ingredient needed to have the dish come together. I'd probably pass on this salad the next time I come here. So what was 'great'? The fries. Wow, they were good! My friend and I decided to split a small order of Urban Fries... and they were goooood. I think these fries are a must have when you come to this establishment. They are hot and crispy, a little spicy, and a lot savory. And a small order of fries is definitely more than enough for one person to enjoy (or two people of lesser appetites could easily share a small and be satisfied). When you come here, just get the fries! The book is still out on the other food items here. I'll have to give them a try later in a future visit... but for now... I've been here too many times to count. I personally like Jack's better than Pluto's. Some of my favorites include: making my own half salad, Thai prawn salad, BBQ tri-tip sandwich, urban fries, and sweet potato fries. You order at the cafeteria-style counter, pay for your order, and grab a number to take to your table. They will bring out your orders for you. Staff is always friendly and smiling! In this area, this is the place that I can get a decent bbq tri-tip sandwich. I really like the decoration of this place, very modern but my bottom wasn't very happy with the seats (just me being super picky though). Salads are made on the line while everything else was called to order. I just love the sounds of sizzling and the smell of delicious food wafting around the restaurant. The service was very friendly and when my friend couldn't decide on which sandwich, it was pretty funny to see different people behind the line shout out their favorite sandwich trying to convince him. They give a really large portion of fries, even though it's family sized. It satisfied 4 of us and with the sandwiches, it was a perfect meal. The fries very crunchy and pretty big in size compared to other places. My tri-tip sandwich was delicious, the bun was a smidge oily but nothing a little napkin can't get out. I just love the flavor of the tri-tip with a little bbq sauce, the most perfect pairing in the world. Meat was a little bit dry but the bbq sauce made it perfect. The wait isn't too long even during busy hours. There isn't much for me to say since overall, it's a decent place for a meal but there are the little things that can be different. Been to Jack's several times now, and each time I tend to get something different. It's definitely not the best place for a sandwich or a salad, but it's a mediocre place for both. I appreciate that they freshly roast the turkey, but I also think they don't give enough per serving, which makes it seem like I don't get enough for what I paid for. They have a good berry sandwich and thai salmon salad, but it's not exceptional and I'm sure other places are better. The only thing I keep coming back for would be the Urban Fries, which is with chili sauce, cheese, and pepper flakes. It's a good combination of flavors to go with fries, but the fry texture itself is not that great. I would still recommend trying it out, however. Not a super fantastic place, and a little overpriced for the taste. But I would likely come back again, mostly because of convenience though. read more

Similar to other reviews, I would definitely NOT recommend Jack's Urban Eats; and you should think twice before leaving a tip - wait at least until you are satisfied with your order/service. I made the mistake of paying for my to-go-order, and then leaving a tip before actually receiving my food. My order was incorrect, raw veggies when roasted veggies were ordered. Not everyone can eat raw vegetables, and I made it clear that I could not. Too bad, how sad, raw veggies were served. Completely inconsiderate - absolutely ZERO customer service. Speaking of, the manager does not care, whatsoever, about customer service. She is rude and condescending, and serves up her rude behavior with a smirk. Abhorrent behavior, for sure! Based on recent reviews, I believe the manager's name might be Caroline; though I cannot be sure as she refused to provide her name - told me this was not permitted. I asked for the name of her manager and for the number of the corporate office, she refused to provide either one. Further, she claimed that Jack's Urban Eats does not have a Corporate office. This is a downright lie because I found online all information related to corporate, including the name of the General Manager. I can see by reading other reviews that the manager has a habit of providing substandard and abhorrent customer service. I do not write a lot of reviews, maybe one or two a year, that being said, I think I will make this one for the year for me. First, I would not recommend tipping here before you actually know you are getting any service. The manager Caroline actually do not care about the quality of service the staff provide. 1/3 of our orders never came, I went up to check with the cashier as I see the staff starting to cleaning up and close everything down. After speaking to the cashier, Daniella. She realized we have never received our child's meal, she told me she will be bring the food shortly to our table. Two minutes later, Daniella came to the table and informed me that she never put the order in, and I need to go up to pay for it. Fine, I walk up with her, while paying, one of the cooking staff repeatedly asking me if I am sure we still wanted my child's food. I thought it was a very odd question, as we have a hungry kid who is still sitting there waiting for his chicken strips, then I realized it was because it was getting close to closing time, they do not want to cook the food. After paying, I sat back down to eat my food, within 2 minutes, another staff walked over asking if We would like to have some to go boxes, because they are closing in 6 minutes! We finally got the chicken strip after some time, Rushed my son to quickly finish his food, so we can leave, he wanted to get more soda to help him eat, and of course the soda machine is closed!!!! What a eventful dinner at Jack's. We spoke to the manager Caroline about what had happened, she blew us off and walked away shaking her head, what the heck? Jack's is a solid 3 stars due to how inconsistent they are with their food. I always order the same thing (buffalo chicken salad), and it has become a bit of a guessing game as to what I will actually get in it. I've had items left out, items added in, and somehow their romaine lettuce is always kind of wilted. I realize that there's a worker shortage right now. I always see "Help Wanted" signs at Jack's, and their workers consistently look miserable. This could be easily solved by paying their workers more. It's clear morale is low, and workers are getting minimum wage and giving minimum effort. It's obvious from my, and others', experience that management needs to step up and do better to improve working conditions. My sincere belief is that the food will improve in turn. read more

We been here a few times recently because during the holiday our cooking time was limited. It's been hit and miss, more misses which is a bummer because I really want to like this spot. The first time we ate at Jacks my fiancé got his salad about 10 minutes before my pesto chicken sandwich with cold fries was delivered. I'm guessing it was sitting there for a little bit most likely because they were semi busy and the girl at the register was also the person delivering food to the tables. We decided to order food to go the next time around and I tried the lemon thyme chicken plate which I really liked and their mashed potatoes were pretty good. My fiancé got the BBQ Tri-tip and said it was pretty good with the side of fries. When we ordered to go I was in and out in less than 15 minutes and I recognized most of the same people working as the time before. I would've given them 4 stars if I had reviewed them on that to go order however we stopped in last night (Friday) around 7pm and we had one older customer in front of us ordering two salads to go. There were 5-6 people working and no one even looked at us for at least 10 minutes. The customer had paid and we were still standing there as people joked behind the counter and one younger kid kept walking by talking and eating. It was at this point we started wondering if we should leave and go to another spot in the Market Place. Another few minutes went by and we were about to walk out when the kid eating stepped up to take our order, which I believe this was the first time he had taken an order because someone near by was telling him how to line up the paper to write down our order. I didn't have an issue with him not knowing how to take our order because I've only seen him clearing tables on previous visits but I was annoyed that for how slow it was no one greeted us and it got to the point we wanted to walk out. We walked to the register where we stood for another few minutes with 5 people working behind the counter and no one paying attention again. The girl at the register didn't say anything and walks away to deliver plates to a table and we again asked each other if we should leave and get food somewhere else. The service was awful, the prices are fairly high for what you get and the food is hit and miss. We decided to stay but I'm not sure we will be back in the near future. If at least one person had acknowledged us or apologized for the wait I would've at least felt a little bit better about the situation. We both worked in customer service for many years and we are pretty forgiving of things especially when people are overworked or it's busy and understaffed. I order from Jacks directly because I know restaurants benefit more that way than from Door Dash, etc, and until today I have always ordered curbside. That's actually WHY I get Jacks... Apparently they don't do that anymore "due to short staffing," then I have to wake up a sleeping infant, and go in to see a 90% empty restaurant and plenty of staff. I went to Jack's for the first time today and I had a very pleasant experience. It is a nice big space inside, so there is plenty of seating and even with a good amount of people there it wasn't too loud. I really liked the simplicity of the menu and menu options -- really just boiled down to salad or sandwich, but wasn't without variety. The ordering process was quick and painless -- in Subway fashion, you tell someone your order over a glass wall that blocks the food and then you move on down the line to pay, where you can also order (and taste!) sides and drinks. Although I didn't order any for myself, they had a fun variety of side options, including apple-smoked bacon brussel sprouts! I ordered the Spicy Buffalo Chicken sandwich -- not too spicy but really flavorful. The chicken was crispy and the blue cheese crumbles added a nice kick in flavor. I split the sandwich and it was the perfect size! I thought, however, that everything was too pricey. It was $9-$12 per sandwich which is on par with a sit-down restaurant with table service, but for a stand at the counter and place your order place, it was too much. The Bahn Mi sandwich, which you can get at Vietnamese places with more authenticity and better taste for between $1-$4, cost $9 here. read more

Very comparable to Pluto's near South Davis but no where near comparable in quality. But the food still tastes good anyway. My friend and I shared a salad and BBQ tri-tip burger. You can pick seven free toppings for your salad (including egg!) and a meat for additional charge, I chose steak. The greens in the salad were a little wilted and brown on the edges and the steak wasn't as juicy as I would've liked it to be. They don't ask you how you like your meat cooked like Pluto's does. The tri-tip burger, however, was delicious! It was juicy and barbecue-y and perfect. And it comes with a slice of pickle and spicy pepper. This is going to be my new usual order. Womp womp. I was craving Pluto's for lunch one day and decided to check this place out because it seemed interesting and I had heard good things about their Urban Fries. The set-up is similar to Pluto's, where you go to the salad, sandwich, or hot plate stations and order what you want. I ordered the tri tip salad, and my friends got the kale and quinoa salad as well as a tri tip plate with mashed potatoes and mac n cheese. We got the urban fries and sweet potato fries to share. I'll start with the good: The fries were actually pretty good. The urban fries come with bleu cheese dressing, chili pepper, chili oil, and chopped cilantro on top. The flavors worked together very well. The fries remind me of Uncle Vito's thai fries, although I like the Uncle Vitos fries more. The sweet potato fries were also tasty. They were cut pretty slender, so each one had a good crunch to it. Now I'll get to the meh items: My salad was about $9, but was seriously lacking in just about everything. The tri tip was not very tasty, and I don't even think they grilled it after slicing it off the bigger chunk that they have. It was cold and had a rubbery texture. The salad also came with cranberries, bleu cheese, onions, and vinaigrette. For this price, I could have build a bomb salad with tons of other add-ons at Plutos. My friend's tri-tip plate also suffered from the same texture/temperature issue that mine did. They should really re-grill their meats after slicing, even if just warm it up before serving to their customers. The rest of my friends' items were mediocre as well. The mashed potatoes and mac n cheese was bland. The kale and quinoa salad was decent but probably not something I'd order. I probably wouldn't come back here. Definitely go to Plutos if you want tri-tip salad or sandwiches. The fries are good, but I still prefer Uncle Vitos more. read more

Natomas is my #1 and Fair Oaks #2 for Jacks locations. Haven't tried the new one in Elk Grove yet, but this one in Davis is okay, surviving in that old Blockbuster Video spot next to Petco. I usually get the Reuben Sandwich and the Urban Fries, and they did not disappoint. The custom salads are better than the salads they have on their signature menu. Didn't seem too busy at all for lunch or dinner, which is fine by me! Their next nearest competitor for eats in that complex includes Krush Burger, Panda Express, Noah's and Jamba I suppose. read more

While you can get a salad on UC Davis' campus or at Plutos, Jacks has a variety of delicious toppings and fresh meats. There is one size for salads but there are also sandwiches, soup, and a variety of sides. My favorite is the Jacks Urban Fries which is a surprise of deliciousness. If you don't like heat ask for the chili flakes to be left off. The ambiance: Hipster. Urban. Cool. The decor and ambience here are enjoyable and attractive. I love the red-letters-with-lights along one wall that read "JACKS." The place has an upscale Panera vibe with urban decor. It's basically a cousin of Pluto's (no galaxy theme here). Every booth and table seemed very clean. It's a stand in line and order, get a number, seat yourself, and have your food brought to you sort of place. They will bus your tables, but there's no formal waiter service. I've had the Santa Fe Chicken salad. The toppings were great, the veggies all seemed fresh, and I enjoyed the mix of flavors. The chicken is placed on the grill and warmed prior to topping the salad. It's a very generous and filling entree! I'd definitely order it again. I've also had the Pesto Chicken sandwich, which comes on a ciabatta roll. I loved the slightly toasted bread and the chargrilled flavor of the chicken. The pesto complimented the tomato aioli beautifully. This was definitely a hearty sandwich (no fake, thin chicken patty here), but it didn't stop me from also eating a half order of fries along with it. They have great sweet potato fries and garlic fries! Go for the bold flavors! The sweet potato fries are nicely crispy with a slightly mealy inside. The garlic fries pack a punch, so just mind your breath afterwards. Here's the rub: their sandwiches and salads don't come with fries. You have to order fries as a side, which ends up getting pricey and you're looking at an individual meal often totaling over 10 bucks.
