We also got the iced sweet teas, which seemed to be really popular since almost every table had one. One unique thing -- the entrance and exit are through the gift shop, and you also pay there at the end of your meal, which definitely adds to the old-school country restaurant experience. We recently stopped at Olde Dutch Restaurant in Logan for a meal and decided to try the buffet. The good news? The food was hot. Unfortunately, the experience started going downhill from there. The buffet itself wasn't well stocked, and the serving area looked like it could have used some attention. Food was dripping and making a mess on the counter, and the salad bar wasn't much better. A buffet should be inviting, and unfortunately, this one looked like it needed a little TLC. Then came dessert. The brownies were pretty much crumbled into pieces, and the pies weren't cut all the way through, making it difficult to get an actual slice without turning it into a bit of a wrestling match. But let's talk about the fees, because this is where things really left a bad taste in my mouth. There's an approximately 3% fee for using a credit card, plus an additional convenience fee of nearly a dollar added to every check. According to the explanation, that extra fee is meant to help offset the rising costs of food and supplies. Now, as a former chef, I completely understand that food costs, labor, and supplies have gone through the roof. Restaurants are dealing with real challenges, and I certainly appreciate that. But here's my question: Why not simply build those costs into your menu prices? Add a dollar to the price of a meal if that's what it takes. At least customers know what they're paying upfront instead of feeling like they're getting nickeled and dimed when the check arrives. At the end of the day, the food was hot, but the buffet needed better attention, the dessert presentation was disappointing, and the extra fees left us feeling less than appreciated as customers. Olde Dutch, there's room for improvement here. A little more attention to the buffet, some care with the desserts, and a more straightforward approach to pricing would go a long way. After all, good food is important, but the entire dining experience matters too!

Think Jimmy Buffett meets a tropical tiki bar, with colorful décor that makes you feel like you're on vacation instead of in central Ohio. The menu is pretty much what you'd expect from a neighborhood bar and grill--burgers, sandwiches, appetizers, and a few house specialties. Before we came, I'd noticed that the bourbon chicken gets mentioned over and over in Yelp reviews. Then I spotted something that caught my eye: a Bourbon Chicken Gyro. As a former chef, I'm always looking for the dish that's a little outside the norm, so that sealed the deal. The gyro comes in either a quarter-pound or half-pound size. I wasn't messing around, so I ordered the half-pound with lettuce, tomato, onions, and tzatziki sauce, plus a side of their hand-cut fries. My wife decided it sounded too good to pass up, so she ordered the quarter-pound version--just hold the onions--and we split the fries. When the food arrived, everything was fresh and piping hot. The bourbon chicken was tender, flavorful, and surprisingly delicious wrapped up in a gyro. It's not something you see every day, and it absolutely worked. The hand-cut fries were good too, although I would've liked them just a little crispier. That's a personal preference more than a complaint. Before we left, we had a chance to chat briefly with the owner, who thanked us for stopping in. Those little interactions always leave a lasting impression. Even though it was a slow time of day, it was easy to see why this place earns consistently good reviews. Friendly people, reasonable prices, and solid food are a recipe for success. They were out of a couple but I was more than able to satisfy myself. On top of this, the prices are fantastic! We ordered hot cheese balls for the appetizer and I had hot wings. My wife had a fish sandwich. All were very good. The wings alone would have been worth the drive. I will be working to bring a group here for the next bourbon tasting they have. I'm so pleased with this trip! On top of everything else, the service we STELLAR!
