Olde Dutch Restaurant in Logan -- so many people hyped this place up that we had to check it out It's buffet style with all-you-can-eat salad bar, soups, hot dishes, and pies. Drinks are extra, and there's also a small $1-2 supplemental fee added on, which felt a little odd since it could probably just be included in the buffet price. The food itself is very classic home-style comfort food with lots of options. Nothing super fancy or out of the ordinary, but everything tasted fresh and the buffet was constantly being refilled every few minutes. We also got the iced sweet teas, which seemed to be really popular since almost every table had one. One unique thing -- the entrance and exit are through the gift shop, and you also pay there at the end of your meal, which definitely adds to the old-school country restaurant experience. We visited Olde Dutch for the lunch buffet and their goats (hot tip: add some goats to your business and I'll be there in a jiffy). This place was hopping but somehow everything flowed smoothly. We tried a little bit of everything- chicken and noodles, salad, stewed tomatoes, asparagus, has brown casserole, pie, etc. my husband seemed to really enjoy their fried chicken. They also offer a menu you can order from a la carte. The buffet was so extensive that we ended up sticking with it. Unpopular opinion but, I'm not sure I understand the hype of this place. So many people recommended this spot, so we came here for dinner while visiting Hocking Hills. You enter through the gift shop and then are seated in the dining area. They have items you can order off of the menu or you can get the buffet. We both chose the buffet. The buffet is small but there's a decent amount of food. They have a salad bar to start. Unfortunately the iceberg lettuce was browning and not fresh, so that wasn't great. Other buffet items included mashed potatoes, fried chicken, fish nuggets, pork chops, etc. home style type of food. There's also a dessert table that only had pies. Overall, I gave this place 3 stars because the waitress was nice and the food that we tried was good. But overall, I expected more since everyone talked about how good this place was. read more

I was passing by and love visiting local restaurants so stopped in! The restaurant was hopping at 4:30pm on a Saturday afternoon. I was seated quickly and the waitress arrived. The restaurant has a HUGE buffet, but knowing me I would over eat so decided to order a grilled chicken sandwhich and sweet potato fries with green beans. The atmosphere was family oriented and many were enjoying being together. The buffet was very busy! my order arrived very fast hot and flavorful. The chicken was huge spilling out of the bun! I highly recommend you stop in! p.s. and next to the restaurant is a goat/deer pen you can feed the animals corn... Met Philip who might be one of the owners or the general manager, but was an extremely nice guy who showed me around and it's easy to see with his hospitality. Why the place has done so well. The server was inattentive, I dropped my fork and my wife and I spent several minutes looking for a server so we could get a replacement. The food was borderline inedible. Several pans on the buffet were empty and no one was replacing them, such as the green beans, burnt Brussels sprouts and soggy macaroni salad. They used to have nice fish fillets but the last two visits they only had tiny tasteless overcooked fish cubes. Even the desserts were terrible, The chocolate cream pies had melted whipping on the tops, blackberry pies had soupy filling with scant number of berries. Suffice it to say we won't be back, at least not until management changes hands and the food becomes edible once again. The shame of it is that this used to be a really great restaurant. read more

The service was about the only thing positive about this experience. We arrived on Sunday for the breakfast buffet at a quarter till 11 and they were yanking all of the breakfast foods off of the bar. One of the members of my party was in the midst of putting sausage links on his plate when it was yanked from underneath him some of the lunch food looked at as though it had been sitting in stainless steel trays for sometime. Nothing was labeled for lunch couldn't figure out what some of the items were chicken livers. Something I suppose was meatloaf. I think this food was barely edible and charge $17.49 for everyone in our party for a breakfast buffet which we did not get to partake in. I'd go 3.5 stars with this but Yelp won't let me. After a long day on the trails in Hocking Hills, you can sit down at Olde Dutch and consume all those calories back you burned earlier in the day. The buffet is your standard American buffet, plenty of variety to pick from. The broasted chicken I thought was a little dry and the chicken and noodles was lacking a key ingredient, chicken. My cream pie clearly had been recently frozen but the food was good for the price. My son ordered off the menu and it took a minute for it to arrive to the table but all in all, Olde Dutch is a decent buffet restaurant for the price. There is an additional fee if you use a credit card. Many of the local businesses charge this credit card fee and are promoting the use of cash. read more

It was good however I've been to better Amish buffets. They only have one buffet table so there weren't a lot of options. I also wish they had jelly on the table for the rolls. I love this restaurant so when a family reunion was meeting there, we made the hour away trip. I started with a very nice salad off the buffet and proceeded to the chicken livers. One of my friends suggested that I go here - unfortunately I am feeling so so about this. I ordered the surf and turf which you get two very large fish and shrimp and then I'll order the meatloaf. I think the seafood was pretty tasty and fillable but when I got to the meatloaf I believe something was off because my stomach was super upset. The service took a long time for carryout and then at the last minute one of my sides was not available so I had to substitute and wait even longer to get my food. Very busy place. Dined with (2) 9 yos so we figured they would be able to find something to eat since they can be picky. All food was standard buffet food. Standouts were the rolls and fried chicken. Drawback was there was no Mac & cheese. Good variety of other side dishes. They quickly ran out of chicken. When I did go back up there to get another piece-a thigh, as soon as I cut into it, I could tell it wasn't cooked all the way. I guess the kitchen was under pressure to prepare more chicken. I was able to make my triumphant return to the Old Dutch on a Sunday in June. There were 10 of us that arrived around 5:00 and we were promptly seated. After reviewing the food on the buffet all of us ordered the buffet. Our waitress was very attentive, chicken was outstanding, turkey was good, pork was good, Salisbury steak was good, chicken soup was good. Overall there are multiple food options to keep everyone happy. At a $16.99 price point, you truly can't go wrong. Definitely a solid option if you're in Logan, Ohio! I'd return again. read more

This is your basic "amish" buffet with homestyle food you might find at the holidays like green bean casserole and broccoli cheese casserole?, many of the dishes of which don't seem to be home cooked but rather put together with mixes and such like everyone else does things now. We have been to several amish buffets over the years during our travels and this seems to be the general way that the amish buffets are going these days so we weren't surprised to see the same here. There was a nice selection of foods to try, nothing that we found to be outstanding. We were there early afternoon, so after the lunch rush and there were several there that were obviously locals that our waitress stopped and talked to frequently while still taking care of us just fine. The food on the hot bar wasn't especially hot or fresh but given the time of the day it was very well stocked. I could see stocking a little lighter and more frequently given the amount of guests so food would be more fresh and hot, but it was ok. I usually go straight for the salad bar at a buffet but was at the end of a cold and it just wasn't sounding appealing at the time. There was a nice variety of items there, including a couple of cold salads like macaroni salad. With salad bars being harder to find these days I wished it had sounded good that day. I tried a spoon full of variety of things.. mashed potatoes, chicken noodles, green bean casserole, cheesy hashbrown casserole, chicken livers, roast beef and a fried chicken wing to name a few. I found the mashed potatoes to be the best with little bits of potato still in them, the hash brown casserole was a bit crunchy- both the potatoes and the onions so that was disappointing as I was expecting Cracker Barrel style which they would have been similar to if they had been thoroughly baked, the roast beef was tender but felt a bit dry and was seasoned differently than I do at home, the chicken livers I think had light breading on them but they were so smashed into the container that you could hardly tell one from another, they tasted ok but were dry and a little salt helped the flavor a lot. The chicken wing didn't give me reason to go back for more chicken, it was just ok. I've seen another recent review about the chicken being hard to get, the pan was full when we were there yesterday so it may depend on staffing on how things are stocked. You are allowed 1 piece of pie from their pie table or ice cream that they deliver to your table. The pies seem to be "store bought" quality, not homemade, much like everything else. I tried the chocolate and my husband had the cherry. The cherry had a lot of what I call "pie goo" as a filler instead of fruit like many store bought pies do and the chocolate seemed like something I've had out of a grocery freezer selection before. Our son got the best option here and got vanilla ice cream, a generous small bowl full which was again store bought. There was no option of chocolate, sprinkles, etc, just your choice of vanilla, chocolate or strawberry if you chose ice cream. The price was reasonable for a basic lunch at around $15 but we sprang for sodas not realizing they charged $3.50 each (and not noted on the menu if I recall correctly) which is more than we are used to paying elsewhere. read more

We have used this restaurant for over a decade ordering chicken and accompanied dishes for our family reunion. This year I called 3 times to place the order and left messages with employees and never could get a call back. I finally found out that Mike the GM is no longer there and was sad that the service for customers would decline so much. I was promised a call back by the catering manager yesterday and I have been let down 3 times now. We were returning customers for our reunion and I suppose all good things come to an end. People usually give out 5 stars if the restaurant is good. But this place is a true 5 stars , or even 6 stars. Amish buffet, nothing special you think. $15 for buffet and comes with dessert. They make sure everything is filled even 20mins before they close. Salad bar has real greens instead of just iceberg lettuce. They serve food that sit well on the heater, so the quality doesn't go down when it been sitting there. Service is top notch. Everyone is so nice and polite. I don't know where they find these teenagers from. Better than chic Fila and you know everyone raves about their service. And what buffet you been to has a free petting zoo and mimi golf next to it. I love eating here on the way home from canoeing on the river all day. Even when it's super busy, I haven't had to wait more than 15 minutes to get a table. The buffet is awesome! This is what you envision for a traditional country style buffet in a tourist centric area. However, there are several well made & delicious options on their bar and it's hard to beat a $15 lunch buffet with a salad and pie bar nowadays. My father in law loves about an hour from here & rarely makes it out & chose to have a birthday lunch there so that's what we did. Some of the standouts on the buffet for me were the fried chicken (better than average), homemade rolls (worthy of praise), sweet stewed tomatoes (hella good). I had the traditional Dutch apple pie & it was pretty good. I did appreciate that there is a sign where you get your plates that says customers must use hand sanitizer before & after utilizing the buffet. We all can envisions the typical buffet crowd & short of delousing everybody when they walk in this is an appreciated request. Our sever was something else & I wish I could remember her name. When she heard it was my father in law's birthday she said I can't sing for you but I can be really mean. Of course my wife loved that & encouraged her to neg him the entire visit, which she did happily. He really enjoyed the razzing and playful banter as well. If there was a Dicks Last Resort nearby I feel like she would be scouted by the manager for her skills. All in all, a pleasant visit. My hubby and I went to the Hocking Hills Flea Market on Saturday and wanted to try this place based on what a coworker said about it; that it had a buffet and served Amish style food. We've been to many buffets, but never an Amish buffet. This place has a huge lot for parking. When we walked inside though, it was bit confusing because at first it's a gift shop instead a restaurant. You have to walk around two corners to find the hostess area for seating. And if you need to use the restroom, you have to go back to the gift shop to use them. It's a very strange set up. Once we were seated, our waiter came right over and took our drinks order and then we headed for the buffet. It's a nice variety of items; things like BBQ ribs, General Tso's chicken balls and fried chicken, tilapia, pork, and even salisbury steaks. This food was on a whole other level compared to the other buffet food we've tried. It's all freshly prepared, properly seasoned and SO DELICIOUS. And I've got to say.....that was the best piece of fried chicken I've ever had. It was juicy on the inside but crispy on the outside, just way it should be. My next piece of fried chicken will pale in comparison to that piece! We were so stuffed after two plates that we couldn't even try their yummy looking desserts. And to top it off, they have a goat petting zoo off to the side of the building! We waddled over that way after eating and saw the most adorable goats! They walk right up to the fence and let you rub their little bellies. It was precious. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant. We followed our instincts when we saw the billboard after declaring we were ready to eat. This established has a lovely gift shop in front on way to large dining rooms with ample seating from 2 to a dozen guests. The decor was homey and inviting, decorated nicely and noise level was quiet for a large venue. I asked his opinion on the pie selection that was available and he shared, "The blackberry can be 'seedy' according to some diners, and the whole I don't like bananas, the banana cream pie is a favorite of many. My sister had chocolate cream pie and said it was also very good. The buffet itself was very nice with: 1 soup choice, large salad bar and 2 large hot food bars. Salad bar had nicer greens and romaine options, nicer salad fixins and 7-8 dressings. Plus crab salad, cottage cheese. The homemade rolls looked amazing but I avoided, at first, because I knew I would be eating too much of them. But I had a bright idea of making a fish sandwich with the battered whitefish, a dollop of the tartare sauce and it was perfect! I highly recommend doing this! The Broasted chicken was hot, juicy and tasty. Sides of corn, dressing, mashed potatoes, seasoned wedge fries, green beans, hush puppies (yum!!), chicken and noodles. Also had shrimp options: scampi, shrimp w/ baby scallops, fried shrimp. I'm listing what I and my sister had but I know I'm forgetting about 5-6 other options. Definitely stop by and have a great meal/ experience here; very affordable too. $18-20 a person but the quality of the food, homey ambience and high customer service attention is worth every penny.
