This place is legit. My wife and I enjoyed our first visit...we will be back. We don't live in Lancaster, but we visit there regularly. The ambiance is simple, country, home-smoked, home cooked meals. The Big Pig sandwich is piled so high with meats, slaw, pickles, and an onion ring, you have to firmly compress jt to get it anywhere close to mouth size. Their BBQ sauces are tasty and so are their hush puppies (had not had one of those since we lived in Texas 25 years ago!). All in all a reasonably priced great meal and friendly service. read more

Nothing but amazing things to say about this BBQ spot! I want to start off my review by giving a s/o to the staff. My server was so kind and made me feel so welcome and was so happy to offer suggestions. The food was perfection. Not only was the presentation gorgeous, i mean just look at the plates! But the flavors were spectacular. Besides having the best meats and sides, each table is loaded up with 4-5 different BBQ sauces created by Barrel & Boar that take the meal to the next level. The food was good but bad, The brisket was really dry like it had been sitting out for a few hours, but the chicken and Belgian waffles was really good but it was supposed to be spicy but it was not the spicy and the same with the spicy Mac and cheese it was also not spicy. The chicken from the chicken and waffles was not cut up very well. My sister's food took an extra 7 minutes to come out while everyone else's food was out. The waiter was really kind and nice. Tried Barrel and Boar for the first time on a family vacation. It was the only place we ate that had no complaints. Everyone loved their food even the 2 year old. Meat was tender and flavorful and the sides were great. Only the highest of praise. That being said our server could have been a bit more attentive refilling glasses and such but I also understand she was the only one working the front so I can't be too mad. So, walking in to the place I noticed that there weren't a lot of tables. Of course, the location is a bit odd for a restaurant so you have to build to your planned traffic. Nonetheless, there was no problem getting a seat. Now, on to the menu. If you are familiar with Barrel and Boar, this has a much trimmed down menu. Which is OK, because almost everything is a hit. I ordered the Stacked Mac and Cheese and it was AMAZING. My friend ordered the Pig Big and yes, it was big. And he enjoyed it immensely. TLDR; Just go there and enjoy! read more

I feel like I was catfished by the old Yelp reviews! I was so excited to have lunch here. The photos on Yelp and the photos on their website looked AMAZING... what I received was the exact opposite. (I'm kicking myself for not taking photos while I was there). But imagine what you would expect barbecue to look and taste like if you ordered it from Wish or TEMU. Love this place. The brisket is delicious. The sauce is amazing. Partnering with their brewery, they also provide local beer. We traveled to Hocking Hills for hiking. First...the staff is really nice!!! Now, It's easy to over order and spend way too much... it all sounds so good! I find I don't tend to get back into the leftovers from here...a sign to me that the food I've purchased is really good. It's ehhh. I'll eat it...it's Not necessarily bad, but not what I'd go out of my way to get, or for that matter, crave. There's not enough meat on the ribs, the smoke ring is ok on the brisket...just ok, though. Not spectacular. Not a fan of the pulled chicken. The pulled pork isn't too bad and they have a Cuban sandwich that's pretty decent and a sandwich called the Big Pig, which is about the only way you'll see their smoked sausage available on the menu...they need to work on the bread they put both on, though. Once again, not bad, but could be better. Their sides are decent, but not great. Better than other places, but way too salty for me and not enough tang. Save your money on the mac and cheese and desserts. Would love to see a good bbq chicken half instead of just pulled chicken, or smoked wings(haven't tried them, yet). Done on the grill with the little charred pieces that make things truly good and add a coleslaw or potato salad not milk-based for those who can't handle, or don't like dairy. And some tangy, spicy greens!!! Bottom line, I guess I like it as well as any of the other bbq/smoked food restaurants in town, but that's not saying much. IMO, they all need to step it up a notch (including their sides). It's not bad....just could be better. read more

Quite possibly the best bbq chicken nachos I've ever had. The flavors with green onion, super tender chicken and amazing bbq sauce. Wow!!!!!!!! And the hush puppies with honey butter...oh my gosh!!! The coleslaw was great too. Some of the best I've had also. Crystal was the person helping us when we arrived. She is amazing to say the least. She runs the place and you can tell she loves the people she manages and being there at the restaurant. It was really cool to see the pride of work she has. She made the end of our hiking in Hocking Hills a major highlight with her excellent service and the unbelievably amazing food at her restaurant. And THEN we had the bread pudding drizzled with chocolate and peanut butter. Holy Moses...It sounded too rich at first but it was astoundingly good. The balance of sweetness was so good. I cant say much in the way of negatives at all about the location, experience, food, price etc. Well the Carolina sauce could be thicker and a tad less mustardy. The other sauces were very good. Portions were very fair and filling. We each had a sandwich - chicken and pork. Beans were pretty good as well! All the employees were really professional and cordial as well. Well in Lancaster we don't have very many options when it comes to BBQ joints. But, I was curious when I saw this restaurant being built and now that it's open we finally tried it. Very good BBQ and I'm happy that this is now an option in Lancaster. The food was prepared and ready on time. The nachos are definitely a must to order and you can't go wrong with any of the meats choices. For sides, the baked beans and Mac n cheese are great choices. It's actually called the Barrel and Boar and it's amazing!! We stopped in for dinner. I had the Flying Hawaiian - a pulled chicken sandwich, with pineapple and gouda cheese - it was so delicious.
