They've been slingin' chicken for decades from Miller's on the West Side of Athens. They have a morning crowd of people who work with their hands loading up on breakfast sandwiches and then a steady stream until the 7pm close. So don't get a hankering for the best chicken tenders (each one is essentially a whole flattened breast) or the more old school offerings like fried hearts, gizzards, or livers. You can get those in bulk and you might ask who would ever...? My high school crew does once a year when the loser of our previous year's fantasy football league caters the next year's draft, that's who. The reason to go is the fried chicken but you can order skinless if you want to behave. They also sell biscuits and multiple sizes of cole slaw, mashed potatoes and gravy, and potato salad. You can dine in at one of probably ten tables and a surprising number of people do. But for me it is about a bucket and some sides for a picnic or that quick decision when plans to make dinner at home go sideways. Parking for 10 or so cars available in front and it is rarely full for long if at all. As a college town, Athens' restaurant scene typically caters to the students. And Miller's is definitely student friendly. But while the students flock to the latest thing (new Cane's on Court Street) the locals know that Miller's is Athens true chicken king. The family business has earned loyalty over the generations. And just know, if you are back in Athens looking for some chicken nostalgia in late summer, make sure you don't land on County Fair Week in August. Got dinner here while visiting friends and it was so good! The food is fresh, the chicken is huge and the crispy skin does not fall off like other fried chicken places. The gravy is top notch and Mac and cheese very cheesy. The service was quick and simple to order. Prices were great as well, love how you can order different sizes of the sides. Finally a old fashion place that serves chicken livers and hearts! Like grandma used to make. Chicken breast was large and so moist. Breading super tasty. Polite and helpful staff. Customer service is terrible. My and my "group" came in around 5:30 on a saturday from a hour away to try Millers chicken..... The first thing the lady says to us at the front is "idk if i have enough seating for you guys" Ok. We planned to eat in our cars anyways.. The next thing she says is can we come inside as we are literally trying to walk in. (haven't even been in the restaurant for 30 seconds) This lady then repeats herself 3 times AND rolls her eyes, i'm assuming she didn't want to serve a larger "group". After this we then decided to just leave because the lady AND her server friend acted like it was a inconvenience to service us. *Also the reason I kept quoting the word "group" is because in their yelp description they claim their restaurant is GREAT for groups...NOT. I'm not sure where I heard about millers chicken... it was online somewhere on a foodie group and I knew I'd be in Athens eventually and put it on my must try list. Friday I had my chance. First, millers has been there forever it seems. You won't find glitzy decor or fancy place settings. You step up to the counter and place your order from a somewhat limited menu. I failed to order a childhood favorite -- chicken hearts -- so I must go back. We ordered fried chicken and perch and a couple sides. The perch was good and in these parts, hard to find. The price was reasonable and I could t finish the pound I ordered. The chicken was nicely seasoned, moist and delicious. The sides were lackluster at best. We enjoyed the unique experience. I'd go back, but I wouldn't go out of my way to dine there again. read more

Came here based on reviews that I saw since I was in the area. I ordered the five piece chicken which consisted of one breast, one thigh, one drum and two wings. I also ordered the potato chunks which are basically like potato wedges. Food came out really fast within a couple of minutes so obviously they had everything pre-cooked. The potato wedges were a little soggy, I guess I prefer mine straight out of the fryer. The breading on the chicken was a little bit fresher and the drumstick was pretty juicy. The chicken breast however was definitely overcooked and extremely dry. For me it didn't have enough salt to it so I just ended up adding some with a salt packet that they had there. Very friendly service and pretty clean in the dining room. Five piece chicken was $8.75 and the small potato wedges for four wedges was $2.50. read more

I would rate the food average, they are evidently known for their deep fried cauliflower which I didn't order. I did see a family with a table full of it and they were devouring it so must be great. I was visiting Athens with friends who are also OU alumns. They raved about this chicken and I even got a quick peak when we stopped at Pawpurrs for drinks. Even my mother who attended OU in the 60s recalls Miller's being the next best thing to home cooked food. We were going to hit the road but decided to stop by before we left. Due to Covid restrictions, we had a short wait outside before we were able to enter and order. I went with chicken tenders and fries along with wings and green beans to take home. There's not much ambiance to the place and it was very in and out. I was floored by the prices which were so reasonable. We ordered and waited in the car for our food. My only gripe was the fact that I told them the car we were in and one of the workers still gave my order to someone else. Thankfully it was remade and piping hot when I received it. The chicken is perfection, even the tenders. The sides were meh, but still acceptable considering we were eating in the car. This is on the go-to list on our next trip to Athens! read more

Good locally owned restaurant with a rich history in the area. The potato salad was great and at first I thought it was ridiculous that you could only get 3 chicken strips.
