Where to start? We pulled in and immediately discussed whether it was open or not ... it was dead, no lights on outside, the windows were dark and there was only one car in the parking lot during dinner hours on a Sunday. That should have told us something but we went ahead inside. We were told cavalierly to sit wherever we please since the place was almost deserted. We received our menus, and they looked okay (we did notice the prices were higher). We ordered mozzarella cheese sticks and meatballs for appetisers, an Italian and veggie sub, and a white pizza "to go" for later snacking. What a costly mistake! The meatballs were large and watery and the sauce so thick it wouldn't spread. The mozzarella cheese was passable for something out of the microwave. The salad arrived, very chintzy for the price. The subs were inedible. The bread practically cut our mouths- it had to be a few days old and very cheap. Made me think about the most affordable bread you can get for subs, but just warmed up in the microwave after it's become stale. The Italian was completely inedible - all the ingredients tasted cheap, bland and kinda "off." The veggie sub was mainly all cheap bread and a few sliced veggies, hardly any cheese or condiments. The place remained empty and we felt bad our waitress because we think she knew how bad the food was. $90 later (!!) we left feeling cheated and still hungry. Later that night, when we opened the "white" pizza, it was so bad it was funny. We expected creamy Alfredo goodness with spinach or artichokes, but in the end, it was a deflated pizza crust (paper-thin but somehow still greasy) that hurt your mouth, with the thinnest layer of cheese melted and tasting mainly like salt. We will obviously never go back and we can't not let people know! We're hoping this place closes soon so another, better restaurant will move in. We traded Lamb's Garden for this? read more

This location makes pretty good pizza, at a very expensive price, and features really bad service. We've been to several other Pizza Cottage locations and would recommend any of them, but recommend you skip the Athens State Street location. We arrived, ordered a pizza, waited patiently with no refills on our drinks, and 45 minutes later the server came by and nonchalantly said she'd given our pizza to someone else, but if we wanted that person's deep dish pizza we could have it at a higher cost since it was more expensive than what we ordered. Never disappoints. BLT pizza is the best. Love the fried pickles. Our youngest son is a pizza "expert", Pizza Cottage is his favorite.

Definitely a one and done. Ordered drinks and bread sticks several minutes before ordering our pizza's and everything came at the same time. Bread sticks were cold which tells me they just sat back there whole the pizza's were being made. Got my pizza ,a taco pizza, but what I got was a disgrace. See picture for reference. I ordered extra jalapenos too, and as you can see by the picture all I got was lettuce. No onions, salsa, jalapenos, cheese, or sour cream. Basically I got a pizza with lettuce. So happy to have a Pizza Cottage in Athens! Was able to get a pizza during a soft opening last night and it was awesome! Only took about 20 minutes to get from order time, The worker at the window was prompt to greet us and get our order. The potato pizza is 5 stars in our book and can't wait to have it again. read more

Our server was sweet, but the food was mediocre. Over priced for the "quality". My entire family was ill after eating here tonight, including having to pull over so one of my kiddos could vomit. My husband has an iron stomach and even he was nauseous. The food was pretty to look at and smelled good, so that's a plus. read more

When me and my parents went there we had to wait to be signed in in order to sit down. We waited to be signed in and sat down for over an hour. Then when we got to the table.... The waitress came over and she was really slow and acted distracted and let's just say she was a college student because of it being right In Athens Ohio. But we ordered our pizza and our bread sticks with cheese on them. When we finally got our pizza it was so greasy that the cheese and toppings were falling off and grease would just run off if it. Let's just say from the grease in the pizza it made me super sick. I was sick for two days after eating it. And when we wanted refills on our drinks we waited on the waitress and she never came back to the table. My dad ended up getting up and getting her a refill.
