Went to Jackie O's tonight with a couple of friends for the first time. I ordered the Appalachian. It was fine, but nothing to write home about. We got cheese curds to start. One friend ordered a Caesar salad with chicken and got a fruity vinaigrette instead. Another friend ordered a burger and they forgot the bacon. A third friend asked for his burger well-done, but it came out medium, also with no bacon. When he asked the server if it looked well-done, she said she didn't know what well-done looks like. He asked if she could get a new one so he wouldn't get sick, and she said she'd check with the kitchen. No apology. It took 25 minutes for the new burger to come out, and by then we had been there for over an hour and a half. When she finally brought it out, she asked if he wanted a box to take it home. Still no bacon on the burger. Also, no apology again. Overall, not a great experience. Will not be back. read more

Really great atmosphere inside, I love the decor and ambiance. The service was kinda spotty, our server had forgot to bring a drink that I had ordered and the drinks in general took a while to come out. The Fish and Chips was okay, the fish was really good and crispy 8/10 but the fries were so bad and didn't taste fully cooked. The Seared Tuna was so good, I'm surprised to not see any reviews on it but a solid 9/10. So light and fresh! I'd recommend coming here! read more

Great pub in uptown Athens. Good sized dining room. There's a bar in the back corner. We order a flight of beer and an appetizer (hummus which was very good). Later we ordered a pizza, and it was very good. The beer is amazing. Standard beer plus super barrel aged beers. My favorites were the barrel aged Dark Apparition.and Temple of Minerva. Beware that they are masters at masking alcohol in their beer, so pay attention to ABV. Pleasant staff, delicious food and great beer. Definitely will be back. read more

Absolutely delicious. Quick service and a great food experience. I haven't been here since I graduated 8 years ago, and it felt like home! The wings were a perfect appetizer. Delicious buffalo sauce and tasty pairing with my razz wheat beer. For lunch I had the bison meatloaf sandwich. The meatloaf was loaded with flavor, tender, and plentiful. The bread had a nice herby taste. Everything was fresh and tasty! My wife loved her tacos. The skirt steak was tender and flavorful. The nostalgia ran deep. The flavor ran strong. The portion sizes were great, I ordered a large house salad with chicken and didn't even finish it because I was full! I'd been wanting to get up to Athens and visit Jackie O's for awhile. I'm so happy I finally made the trip. Upon entering the door I noticed the ceiling was nicely decorated with Christmas lights and plants. They had a good number of tables and a large projector tv showing football in the back. I thought the atmosphere was very pleasant and I was impressed with how clean the entire place looked. It was raining when I visited but I peaked out at the patio. It has ample seating with multiple wooden booths. It looked like a nice place to hang out in better weather. I ordered a flight of 5 beers. I believe they said you can get up to 8. The beers were all very good. My favorite was a Paw Paw wheat which I ordered a second glass of. For an appetizer we shared the artichoke dip. It was very tasty. It became hard to keep sharing it! For my meal I had the French Dip. It was also very good. The only disappointment was the eggplant side I ordered when I found disgusting. My friend also had ordered and he too barely ate any of it. My bestie rented a cabin in Hocking Hills so my husband decided to book us a late lunch date here on Valentines. We had 7 and no issue making a reservation. They had the tables blocked off with plexiglass and you had to text when you arrived so they would open the door. They are open but by reservation only. We all order meals and a few appetizers to start. The food came out warm, together and everyone enjoyed their meals. The tofu burger was a bit plain, could used more veggies. The bread usually has butter but we requested non since it was not vegan. The falafel wrap was nicely paired with a tossed salad. The pesto grilled cheese was amazing and ordered with tomato soup, perfect foe a cold winters day. Many veggie options. The beverages are delightful. We ordered a flight of beer 8-4oz pours. The beer is individually priced so the 8 samples was around $27. They offer beer to go, which was nice. There always was empty tables around us. The servers put items on a smaller table that we then had to pick up and place in front of ourselves, due to Covid. I thought this was nice to protect me and their employees. read more

I dropped my daughter off for school today. Her first college bar (kind of)!!! The place looks great and the staff is very friendly. I've had the beer before, so I knew that would be good. The food I wasn't sure about, but it was excellent. High-end bar food is hard to beat. Everyone was happy. The pizzas are great and the Portobello sandwich looked good too. I've been wanting to visit Athens and check out Jackie O's for some time. This bustling brewery and restaurant is regularly fully booked so a reservation is a must during peak times. We popped in at 3pm on a Saturday and the bar and restaurant had tables. The beer at Jackie O's is excellent! They have regular staples, seasonals, and collaborations with OU and local honey farmers. I tried the fried cheese curds and the pulled pork sandwich and both were delicious. Service was fast and friendly and I look forward to my next trip to Athens. read more

I have gotten pizza, tacos and the burger in past visits. All within range of what i expected Never had a bad experience at Jackie O's public house. But also never expected much. Outside patio is upstairs in the back. Decent steps upward. Once you get upstairs (outside) sort of feels cramped, picnic benches at best with picket fence walls all along side of you. Not much for service up there. Like about 2,000 other folks I visited Athens to see Wilco tape a performance for Mountain Stage. In spite of being unsurprisingly slammed they got us seated, fed and off on our way pretty quickly under the circumstances. Great pub food and an amazing beer selection. Don't believe the sign out front with their listed hours. It says the same thing on their website. We got there at 7:42 pm on Sunday evening. The listed closing time was 8:00 pm. They said the kitchen had closed two minutes ago. That means the actual last seating time was 7:40. This unacceptable in a professionally run restaurant. read more

This place had really good reviews so never being in athens figured it was a safe bet. Got a Ruben and the meat was brown. Idk about you but I've never had brown corn beef. The taste was even worse. The service was non attentive, not really sure if we had a actual waitress. Just not good. I was honestly so impressed with Jackie O's! This was our first visit here and as someone who is anxious about COVID, I can say that have gone above and beyond with precautions. They are reservation only and each table is separated by a plastic barrier. The waiter also stands 6ft from your table at all times. In terms of food and beer - YUM! We got the artichoke dip, pizzas, salad and beer. Everything was incredible. My only complaint is that it was a little chilly inside the restaurant. I had the Barcelona Garden Pizza which had very fresh-tasting toppings and a nicely done crust. Others had burgers, Mac and cheese bowl, and ramen. If only we lived closer! We got a meat pizza and Chipotle BBQ wings. I was not impressed by the size of the wings, super small but the sauce was so good. It was sweet with a slight kick of chipotle. The pizza was awesome and had crispy pepperoni and a good amount of cheese. Crust was crispy and satisfying. I got a pomegranate margarita and my boyfriend got a beer flight. He really enjoyed all the beer options and my margarita had great flavor. Sweet and a little sour. Our waiter was fantastic and kept us engaged in conversation. The place is small though where we sat and there maybe 6 to 8 tables with covid separators. When we went around memorial day they were only taking reservations and you had to put your food on a tray when you were done. They were definitely careful and cautious. This place was a gem. Just a great layout and a lot of people having fun. Lots of beer to try although it's not for me. And best of all, great food! Tim was our waiter and he was extremely friendly. We started with appetizers of the Reuben spring rolls and the cheese curds. Both were amazing, especially with the Chipotle sauce. Friend and I shared the spicy hot pepper pesto pizza with bacon and it was also really good! Definitely spicy so this is not for the faint of heart.
