Have to come here a lot with my son attending OU. Not a lot of room but if you come for a late lunch it wont be that busy. I spent one evening here drinking, and another here for dinner. Both occasions I had great service, and great drinks and food on their respective nights. If you're in town and need a place for a bite at incredible prices, this is a good option. I had the grilled turkey and Colby, and it was so good (and only like $6). The drinks are also so tasty and strong. You definitely get what you pay for at this place. And everyone who works there is great! They really take care of you! read more

Never been to Athens before and got trapped eating Cafe food for a week. Ventured off and found the Pub, which lives up to its name. Great burgundy door leading you into a gallery of memorabilia, laughter and good vibes. I sat at the bar was quickly greeted and ordered wings, beer and a double of Jamison. The wings came out quickly and were a great size for the price. If I ever come to Athens again, I'd definitely stop by. read more

The Pub in Athens, Ohio is definitely a dimly lit dark old fashion dive bar...my kind of place in my heyday!!! Tony and I was looking for pizza or hot dogs, and we opened the door to this dark little hole (AFFECTIONLY TERMED) My hubby and I both love love love dive bars we grew up on honky tonks and local watering holes..we love them!!! But, we were not there to drink..well of course he was, he always is ready to get his drink on....so he ordered the well advertised "AQUARIUM" and this particular day the Bud Light Aquarium was $4...normally $5. It holds 32 oz of draft beer. Only down to this, no Budweiser or PBR on draft. He feels light beer is mainly like drinking water. We ordered a Mushroom Cheeseburger with grilled onions and A1 Sauce AND a Fish Sandwich with tartar sauce, lettuce and pepper jack cheese. Of course, par normal we split the sandwiches so we both could enjoy something new together and we shared an order of Jalapeno poppers. He enjoyed a couple aquariums and I had a pepsi or two..I don't drink any longer, I am the permanent full time driver!!! I really prefer it that way! The food was okay for bar food. The prices were good. The atmosphere was dim and dark very old fashion bar feel to it but missed the old smokey filled rooms of yester years... A few loud college boys drunk in the afternoon at the bar, probably first time away from home..oh the memories!!! I am giving them a 3! As a former Bobcat, I have to give the pub 5 stars because they have some of the best bar food in Athens. Pretty much anything you order on the menu will be good. The pub club is exceptional. You can either get a full or a half, the picture shows you the size of the half. Then it doesn't not come with a side so you can get a side of your choosing from their sides or appetizers. Their drinks are super cheap along with their food. It is the true definition of a dive bar but it's a great place to grab a beer and they are known for their burgers and beer cheese soup which is available on Sundays and Wednesdays. Now it isn't the brightest bar in Athens but it's a great place to check out and get a meal at! read more

A fantastic place for alum and students. The aquariums still rule (back in my day they took your ID for them, not true today). Great beer cheese soup-NOT vegetarian tho. They use stock. Try spicy blk bean burger w curly fries or the garden sammie. The man got a pretty darn good looking burger. The sandwiches are about $4 and pretty standard, but taste so good when you are jonesing for something that's hit the grill. This is just a really nice place that is quite affordable. Ok, so we walked into the bar Next door by accident and got really scared. Totally not a chill vibe. Thankfully we figured it out and got to the right place. Didn't originally realize that Beer Cheese soup is only on Wednesday & Sunday - TRAGIC by the way apparently - but the bartender and the food was WELL worth it! Loaded Pig Skins - YUM!!!! Well worth it and if we ever get back to Athens on a Sunday or Wednesday we WILL come back for that soup!!!!! read more

The Pub Club is no joke! This sandwich is delicious! They do have a small surcharge on debit/credit card us. But this is solid bar food!

The Pub opens at 10:30 AM to serve food (and drinks) until 7:00 PM. Their food is great and at a low price! My personal favorites are Beer Cheese Soup or the Bacon Cheeseburger with Onion Rings. After 7:00 PM, the restaurant closes down and serves drinks only. I enjoy their 12 oz bud light for $1 on Tuesday nights. During the summer, aquariums are $2.50. The bar is usually packed by 10:30 PM and hopes of obtaining bar seat are slim. Many tables are located opposite of the bar where people may sit on the top of the bench to get a good view. Maybury corner can offer many pleasant memories. If it is difficult to to find your way to the bar, just move to the back end and wait as the gentleman bartender will serve you soon. read more

If you walked all the streets of Athens, you've surely been up and down Court Street hundreds of times. It is a collection of two-story brick buildings with dormers on the 2nd floor and bars, restaurants, and bookstores on the first floor. It is, after all, a comfy college town. At the far end of Court Street, far from the madding crowd of Ohio University students, sits a collection of Athens bars that have been staples since the70s. Chief among them: the CI and The Pub. Whenever you walk in, day or night, the place is almost always jumping. Some days (like today) it's bar-crowd-noisy), but most afternoons, it's quaintly loud with a background of classic rock. The bar runs along the left wall and a row of boots line the right. Through the center are a mix of two-tops, quads, and six-tops. About half are filled with patrons enjoying lunch. We seat ourselves and a waitress comes up to take our drink order immediately: Arnold Palmer and Diet Coke. Then, when she returns, we order our meals: a Cup of Beer Cheese Soup, Chicken Salad Sandwich, and Roast Beef Au Jus. The Cup of Soup and Chicken Salad Sandwich arrived in five minutes for my lunch mate, but I was left empty-handed. Still, I take a few sips of soup and it's yummy (as always). About 6-7 minutes later, my Au Jus arrived, and it was yummy, too. All-in-all, it was a pretty great meal - and the reason we drove all the way from Columbus. read more

It's been a few years since I've been in Athens and back to my favorite watering hole, but the Pub was always my spot. The food was great for bar food; A solid burger, delicious curly fries and an afternoon pint between classes at the Pub was incredible. The aquarium was one of the best deals in town. The bar got pretty loud and packed on Friday and Saturdays (even Thirsty Thursdays), but for me, going to "Church" service on Sunday evenings and the early/mid-week crowd was the best. The Pub is legit. Their food is pretty good, and not overpriced. A hamburger and bowl of their yummy beer cheese soup is plenty of food, very tasty, and rings up around $7. On the nightlife side, The Pub is much less frilly than some of the other bars. They do things their own way, and if you don't like it, there are plenty of other bars. The result is an Athens bar that really has its own character and feel, which is great. Aquariums are relatively cheap and always a good idea. Most nights I'm uptown I find myself in The Pub for at least a beer or a Berg-nasty (if Singer is working). Also, "Church" on Sunday nights is a must for every student before they graduate. read more

It's a great place in the afternoon for some hair of the dog (I like the bloody marys) to go with a cheap and good lunch. Most people opt for the Pub Burger, and they've got veggie and chicken options along with other sandwiches. On Sundays and Wednesdays, they have perfect (if always lukewarm) beer cheese soup. If you're thirsty, an Aquarium should do the trick. Afternoon service is fast and friendly, and the crowd is a laid back mix of students, townies, and families. Mr. Hyde comes out a bit after dark, when the Pub converts to a full-fledged student bar. I'm too old for the Pub at night, but that's as it should be. read more

First contact with service staff was to say we have to leave because we brought food in from the outside! Avoid this place at all costs.
