I went for just a plain cheeseburger for my entree and it was exactly what I wanted. I was able to visit Broneys Alumni Grill this weekend with my family and what I thought was going to be a pleasant weekend took an unexpected turn. The owner of the bar (I believe his name is John) was giving me very creepy vibes. He kept making inappropriate gestures towards my pre teenage daughters while staring often and licking his lips. I'm giving this place a 3 only because the bloody Mary's were delicious and our server was friendly. Wait times were not long either which was a plus. The inside and outside was clean but it was a little dark inside. The food however, was awful. The garlic parm wings on the sampler were so garlicky you could barely eat them. And not too garlicky in a good way. The wraps were cold. The mushrooms were soggy, yuck! The quesadilla had zero flavor and the fries were awful. The Reuben wasn't even a Reuben. ZERO and I mean ZEROOOOOO sauerkraut, one baby squirt of sauce, and the most rubbery corned beef squares I've ever seen. I ordered loaded fries. Didn't receive them. They also still charged me for loaded fries. When I brought it to her attention she did take it off our bill which was nice. Broney's is the shittiest bar in Athens I've been to. It's the worst service there is. The atmosphere is total bullshit. It almost has nothing good to say about it. The champagne slushies they serve up is the one thing. I think it's funny how bad this bar is. It's called the alumni bar. The alumni would never come to this piece of shit. It was pretty clean inside. The service though is unforgivable. Bartenders are the rudest in town and that's saying something. The peach champaign slushies are the only reason to go back. Aw. HAELL. Naw! Firstly, I have to say that our waitress was a lovely young person who was apologetic through the whole meal (and she was doing a great job). The food on the other hand could only really be described as a surrealistic nightmare. The fries came out first and they were soaked in grease and limp as grandpa on a cold day. The only reason they came to us hot was because she brought them out ahead of the other food. We had those with the queso dip which was the only thing making them tolerable. The Sex on the Beach was a little tart and I could not detect the presence of any alcohol in the drink. Our server made sure to keep the Arnold Palmer's refilled and they were quite well prepared. Now comes the main dishes. We ordered the bone-in chicken wings, half hot and half mild. The mild had very little flavor to speak of and the hot was more heat than flavor. I will say the finish on them was excellent so the skin had a nice crispiness to it and the meat itself was fairly juicy. I had the Reuben, or at least a sandwich that was called a Reuben. The corned beef on the sandwich was minced into little particles mixed in with the cheese. Completely over the top on Thousand Island dressing and not in a good way (the sandwich was swimming in it). Also the menu indicates that it is served on toasted marble rye and it was brought to us on butter-soaked, barely-toasted sourdough which had all the flavor of white bread and tragedy. Finally the potato soup was brought out to the table after the rest of the meal had pretty much failed and seeing no steam rising off of it on such a cold evening I stuck in my thumb, only to pull it out freezing cold. I don't think it was actually ever put in something to heat it up even a microwave. The chef should seriously consider a career in politics as it's the only place you could be so completely useless and still get paid. read more

I'd leave no stars if it was possible. 7 of us went to eat on parents' weekend, and we were lucky enough to snag a table on the patio. Our server was nice enough in the beginning, but she seemed very overwhelmed with the big crowd. It took forever to get our drinks and to even order appetizers. I'll let that slide. 7 people ordered dinner. SEVEN! It took an insane amount of time for food to come, and only 4 orders came. We asked the server where the other orders were, and she said they were on the way. 20 minutes later, she came back and said the kitchen was closed and we weren't getting our food. Mind you, it took close to 90 minutes for our orders to come out but a table next to us came in an hour after us, and within 25 minutes had their WHOLE order, yet we were denied 3 of our meals?! We asked to speak to a manager, and she said we can offer you appetizers, but our kitchen is closed, but I'll tell the district manager about this. It is absolutely unacceptable. I can tell you, we won't be back, ever. They are never prepared for these big weekends. This wasn't our first time to this establishment but it was definitely our last. read more

When I was underage, I thought Broney's was the coolest bar in Athens. Boy was I wrong. The food is good. Nothing to write home about, but tastes good. Broney's is best on a warm day. I'd grab a Corona-rita and sit on the patio with friends. Their champagne slushies are one of their signature drinks and I do miss them now that I'm not in Athens anymore. Where Broney's fails is in customer service. A majority of the bartenders and servers act like you don't exist, even on a slow day. We had a large group.Service was terrible. Food was okay. Ordered a pitcher, bartenders poured it and it sat at the end of the bar until I went back and asked for it. I went back and asked bc another person from our table went to the bar and ordered a pitcher and brought it back immediately. After an hour, the food came out. Half the food. There are 12 choices on the menu. Another 20 minutes pass and server comes out to see how food is doing. We go in and tell bar, all of a sudden the other half of the food starts coming out. They stil missed two sides of fries and tried to give checks to folks who already paid. Checks come out, server doesn't know who had what. She then collects payment, doesn't get ours. I had to ask the bar to cash a $20...bc I was most certainly not leaving a $20 tip. Bar was ready to work, food was ready when we asked, this felt like a server problem. The aptly named Broney's is loaded with college bros and bimbos. The food stinks, and the service is painfully slow. But Broney's has an ace in the hole: peach champagne slushies. I could spend an entire afternoon on the porch, sucking down those cupfuls of heaven with a few friends. I'm told the bathrooms are exceptionally clean for a place that caters to the drink-till-you-puke-brah crowd. My group of 4 ate here for dinner recently. When the four of us arrived the waitress came to take our drink orders. We received our drinks (champagne slushies are still delicious as ever) promptly, but still weren't ready to order food. Our waitress vanished for a bout 20 minutes. I know there were only 2 servers working, but the restaurant was not busy when we sat down at 7:00. There were lots of empty tables, and a few of the tables were occupied by those who were just drinking, not there for food. We didn't come to Broneys with the expectation of having great service, but we did expect that our waitress would be more attentive than she actually was. Our food took a long time to arrive given that we ordered chicken tenders, fries, and a club sandwich. I think we waited about 45 minutes for our food. When our food arrived, my friend's sandwich was on the wrong bread and the waitress had forgotten a couple of extra sauces we ordered. Not a big deal, but because the service had been pretty iffy so far, it was harder to ignore. The food was a notch above standard bar food; iit was hot, and it was reasonably priced. I would definitely give the food here 3 stars, as long as you stick to the greasy fried offerings. Another issue that I noticed was the ambiance, or lack thereof. I usually avoid Broneys after 9:00 or 10:00 when the bros start coming in, but we figured that by dining at 7, we'd be out the door before the real bar crowd started arriving. We were wrong. There was evidently a Greek formal this weekend, and towards the end of the meal, the bar was mobbed. We were glad that we were almost finished with the meal, but the bar turned the lights off while we were still trying to finish our food. Our table was surrounded by drunk couples--fighting and making out. My friend went to the bathroom and came back to report that every sink was clogged with puke. I won't fault the bar for... being a bar. We mostly shrugged it off, but we were really looking to leave, so when we received our checks we were ready to pay and get out. The waitress said she wasn't sure how she was going to figure out our drink orders. Why didn't she record who ordered what? This didn't make sense whatsoever. So she had to take away our checks to revise them. My friend had ordered one drink at the bar and the bar took her card. This shouldn't have been a big deal, but it evidently was because the waitress returned to say that the bar had lost my friend's card. We were waiting for TWENTY minutes as they scrambled to find it, and of course, the crowd around us only became more drunk and obnoxious. I almost never tip less than 20%, but the waitress only got a 15% tip from me because of her carelessness and ineptitude. Not sure if it was poor training, but it was unacceptable. One mistake is understandable; we had consistently terrible service from her throughout the night, even before the bar became chaotic. The service would merit a 1 star rating, but because the food was 3 stars, I am going with a 2 star rating. Now that Jackie O's isn't serving food, there are fewer options for good bar food. Broney's is certainly not stepping up to fill the void. read more

Wish we would have read the reviews before we stopped here. The place was half full - we ordered two appetizers and burgers. Appetizers came out 20 minutes apart and were cold and the burgers took over an hour. Our waitress was less than interested in being there. Save your money and read the other reviews. I was there this weekend and go there two times: First time the waitress was nice, my drink one margarita that was ok for the price was perfect but I wait 45 minutes for my bill and leave food classical bar food so nothing special. Second time I came back for some drinks with my friends and I ask for Johnny walker blue label and the bartender reply my order with "blue label is too expense" I was mad and said him that my money is my problem so he said something to the owner that I saw him drinking with customers so probably he was drunk I spoke with him very nice what happened and said him that I want leave of his bar he became mad and the security come kind of aggressive and kick me out after that I said him that I want leave so was a really bad experience for me by the way I learn that 15 dls drink is too expense in this kind of bar read more

This bar is known around town for their horrible management, but I got a taste of it myself one dads weekend... my father was charged over $200 on his bill. Upon calling the restaurant they claimed he had left a $200 tip, this was not the case. He left $2.00. I asked if I could see the receipt (which all restaurants are supposed to keep the signed merchant copy) and they "didn't have it". He did get his money back but it was after a huge fiasco. Time to time I see the same story reported on social media from different patrons. Needless to say visiting this place is not worth the risk of getting scammed from management. read more

Thieves! As you've probably read, the service here is subpar at best, but the last time I was there I caught them padding my bill! They more than doubled the drinks I ordered, probably so they could give free drinks to their friends. I was here with a pretty large group. They waitress was accommodating. I can't speak for the speed of the service, as I wasn't in a rush. The food is what can be called decent bar food. Portions were fairly large. I ordered the Chipotle Black Bean Burger, juicy. It tasted like it was straight off the grill. Their iced tea is nothing to brag about, tasted sugar free. But I LOVE the peach champagne slushie! That slushie on the patio during the summer= all smiles Not really sure about the problem with the crowd. It is in a college town, so it is expected. Every. Single. Time. we order food to go we get charged tax and even have a server listed on the check. No other place in town does this.
