I handed my ID to the bouncer he swore up and down it was fake (I'm 21 going on 22 in a couple of months) they handed it to me and when I reached out for it they dropped it laughing at me. I asked them to call cops to prove to them it was real but they wouldnt. This bar is discriminatory and only cater to fraternities. Don't waste your time go to Stephens they are the best. read more

Met my wife at this bar. I am a 56 year old OU alum my wife was in jbar twerking on every guy by the upstairs bar. At one point she pissed into a pint glass and some Acacia kid drank it. Imagine a bar that acts like a fraternity house. "You know someone here?"... welp thats JBar. Yeah so you get kicked out if you're not in a frat lmfao. Everyone that says they have "great bouncers" just knows someone there. When you buy drinks from a place all night and tip the bartenders well, don't give your Juul to the managers girlfriend. Apparently when the manager's girlfriend asks for your Juul, that is a warrant to kick you out of the place. All one person at JBar has to do is know someone working there and they have all the authority in the world to kick someone out. Ask for a manager? Too bad... he's "busy working the bar", but has all the time in the world to come out on Court Street and talk to any underage girl that walks by. Their drinks are overpriced, the staff is rude unless they know you, and if you don't act the way they want you to, then you're asked to go to "another bar". It amazes me that people that don't even work there have the power to kick people out they don't like, as long as they know the bartender. If I wanted to rush the JBar fraternity, I'd make sure I had a little more douchebag in me before I did. To sum this review up, if you're visiting Athens and are not a local, don't even bother. There are way less cliquey places that have a better atmosphere and have cheaper drinks. If you're a local, then don't even bother; if you aren't rushing Sigma Apple Pie then they don't even acknowledge you and you'll be waiting 30 minutes for one drink (I am not knocking Greek life). As a student, if you're under the age of 21 and are a girl, you're good as long as you're satisfied with paying for the most expensive, watered-down, average drinks on Court Street. As for any other student, you're good with a decent fake ID and friends that either work at JBar or know someone there. Overall, the worst bar on Court Street. The Pub, Courtside, Overhang, and Stephen's all have a better bang for buck, and their bartenders (who are actually in fraternity's but know how to actually serve and treat paying customers) will pay you better respect than JBar. It is sad that in my 4 years at Ohio University, that this bar has turned into the "new Crystal". read more

The upstairs bartender only cared about his friends. I asked three times times if I could get a drink and he told me there were other people more important than me. All I wanted were quick and simple shots for my friends. There should be more management upstairs. read more

This place has the best bouncers in Athens. They are better than the bouncers in the movie "Roadhouse". The drinks are cold and the women are hot. I highly recommend this place. read more

Excellent time many times at this bar. My only complaint is that they don't allow you to hang from the top bar. I believe they should start letting people hang from this in order to have a better time. So many games can be played with this being allowed, for example: Air kickball Foot baseball Dodgeball Floating flip cup Human piñata Regular piñata Floating dance contests Pull up contests Reverse sit up contests Swings with your arms Pin the donkey Foot flip cup Foot pong Many movie scenes can be reenacted Squirt gun fights Dodge the tomato Ski shots in the air I would go on but I have an important business meeting to attend on issues including balloon structure that I cannot go into further detail for legal purposes. But one last thing everyone should know is if you want to get a drink faster from the bartender there named Scott, just call him Scotty-pants or Jeffrey using a "this is my butler accent like Geoffrey from the fresh prince of Bel-air" and he will get you a drink much quicker. read more

Best bar on Court Street! Great specials and even better staff. My first and last stop every weekend!

Favorite bar in town, trust me I know I'm on my 5th year. Happy hour Monday through Wednesday have great deals and a nice mellow vibe. Often go there to play cards. At night Jbar gets rowdy. Bartenders serve quickly even with large crowds. Best college bar on campus to go to on a Friday or Saturday night. Most likely will have my graduation pictures taken here. read more

This bar is a great time. Whenever I am in Athens Ohio on business I always stop at J Bar. They pour a great drink. The alcohol selection is great. The music and atmosphere is awesome. The prices are great. My only complaint is that the women are too aggressive. I like to just go to the bar and have a drink, but everytime I am in there the women wont leave me alone. They are always talking to me and rubbing up against me. This can be annoying. read more

the female bartender on 8/23 on top floor bar around 1:20am was horribly rude. i asked for a vodka sprite and was given a vodka soda with lime. when i asked to return the beverage i was greeted with a hostile "take what you have" with no reconciliation of what i had originally asked for. very disappointed with the service i was (un-politely) provided. read more

This place definitely looks nicer than all the other bars in uptown Athens. They have a pretty good selection of top-shelf liquor which is nice. It does get crowded pretty early. The drinks cost a little more than...Athens prices...but it's not too bad. There's nothing special about this place, I think I like it better when there are fewer people there. read more
