Dinner here last night was good. The atmosphere and service were pleasant. For Our party of 7, we had a brief wait, but not too long so we checked out the general store attached to the restaurant. The fried green tomatoes came out super hot, had good flavor, though some were cut a little thick so the breading got moist and fell off. Would have been nice to have small plates as we were sharing this appetizer, but we made it work. I ordered the 100% Bison Burger, it was good, had ok flavor/seasoning, not mind blowing. Definitely a lean burger, so might try the Buffalo Blend Burger if I ever get back here. My fries came out hot. I was really excited to come here during my visit at hocking hills. My Steak came out cold after a long wait. The mashed potato's came with gravy but it isn't stated on the menu. I asked for new mashed potatoes and the lady offered me a new plate so I can put them together. Once my server came back she had the mashed potatoes in a mug and didn't offer me a new plate. Wish I could make it a zero star. Literally not had worse food. We did not even eat our meals because they were so repulsive. The waitress was nice, but service was slow and even though we didn't eat our food, they didn't ask if we liked it or not. The Hungry Buffalo is a great stop after a day in Hocking Hills for families and four legged friends. We sat on the patio and were happy to see that kids eat for .99 on Sunday's! The menu was diverse with options galore. I was torn between the Monte Cristo and Fried Green Tomato BLT. I went with the Fried Green Tomato BLT and fries loaded with cheese and bacon. The sandwich had house made garlic aioli and the ranch was perfect. The outdoor patio area had corn hole and axe throwing and it just was a great finish to the day. Excellent place to go to visiting our son at OU. Packed as always but the bartender is so pleasant and she is always laughing which made it easy to be friendly to her... Food was fabulous, had their famous fried green tomatoes, then ordered their shrimp basket. Food and cold beers, good company and welcoming staff makes it fabulous to go to after a busy day at Hocking Hills are walking every where on campus. My wife and I stopped here for dinner while visiting Hocking Hills State Park. We were quite hungry and this place seemed better than going to a chain restaurant. Upon entering, we were greeted by two young teenagers that were serving as hosts. One of the teenagers immediately tried to seat us in the bar area. When we told him we would rather not sit there, he seemed surprised. My wife the Chicken Philly sandwich which came on 12 inches of bread but had only 6 inches of meat. I ordered the Appke Bourbon Chicken which came with " southwest rice". We shared some sweet potato fries. The Philly Chicken tasted okay (according to my wife). The Apple Bourbon chicken wasn't freshly grilled and you could tell by the taste and texture. The rice tasted like it was microwaved. The best part of the meal were the sweet potato fries. Ambience was classic sports bar, service was good (but huge tips were expected). Can't really recommend this place when a much better option is across the street. read more

Visited the Hungry Buffalo over the weekend with a party of 10. We were sat right away, but had to flag down a server eventually. I ordered the filet tips which had onions and mushrooms with them and I got mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans with it. My food was average and not hot at all. My sister and niece split the sampler platter; their food also was not hot and the steak nachos just looked gross. From start to finish we were there for 2 hours, everything took forever. We stopped in at Hungry Buffalo while visiting Hocking Hills State Park. The area is not over commercialized with a lot of chain restaurants and we were hoping Hungry Buffalo would be a good option. Nope The food was ok, nothing to write home about. But the one thing that can make mediocre food good, great service, but that didn't happen either. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. I expected a 3 star meal based on other reviewers experiences but instead it was a 5 star meal. I expected over salted, lukewarm food but we instead received QUICK hot appetizers and entrees that were portioned correctly and flavorful. The side salad could have been a meal of its own. I try not to be a hater but this place just wasn't good :( the menu sounded amazing but a lot of our food seemed microwaved. Two of us got the apple bourbon chicken and the chicken was tough and the "apple bourbon glaze" was not a glaze but like an applesauce. Mash potatoes were okay but served cold. We ordered the Bison Queso Dip with Chips as an appetizer- it was so good, we wanted more. I ordered the Louisiana Shrimp Basket and had the garlic Parmesan dipping sauce. The amount of shrimp was way more than you expected so it was nice to know the portion sizes weren't shorted. I had enough for leftovers. The best thing here is the pretzel sticks (comes in 3, which is an awkward number). The chicken tenders are horrendously small and come with no sides. Boneless wings were also ordered and the same size as the tenders, so essentially nugget sized. The nachos were literally just melted shredded cheese, dry chicken, and diced tomatoes. The nachos were supposed to be an appetizer but came with the rest of the food. Our waitress came twice between us ordering and the check. Terrible out took over 30 minutes for our appetizer to arrive and when it did it was cold. Didn't say anything until patrons at the bar who arrived 20-30 minutes after we did had gotten appetizers and entrees while we still waited for our meals. To make matters worse when I asked about our entrees, the bartender who had an attitude since the beginning argued with me that because we ordered an appetizer it was taking our food longer. No apologies for the wait of almost an hour. I have been to plenty of fine dining and casual restaurants never have I waited an entire hour for my meal. Also I waited tables and bartender for many years, and was appalled at the attitude of the bartender, not only that the manager who was called to comp our bill didn't come over to even offer an apology. The food was definitely edible, but would not come back. I got the steak tips, came with mashed potatoes, and another side, I got Mac and cheese. By the time the waitress brought all of our food out it was cold, barely warm. And the three others I was with also said their food was cold. Found this online after hiking at Hocking Hills. It was a holiday Friday and they were a little understaffed because of the big holiday crowd, but the staff was very nice and apologetic, working super hard to keep up. The restaurant is very cool with a quirky national park vibe. It was fun to look at the pin map where all the different patrons had come from. I got the boneless wings and waffles and my wife got a fish sandwich. The portions were very generous (the fish was HUGE) and everything was very tasty. Great fries as well. For the area, this place is great! Out of the 4 restaurants they have all over hocking hills, this was pretty much our best option for lunch without the 3 hour wait ...so we waited 1 hour. Our server was absolutely amazing, she was super helpful, attentive and friendly, gave us suggestions and was on top of everything! Tried the firecracker appetizer and that was good, mild to no spice, but still good flavor. I got the 9 oz ribeye, with Cesar salad and sweet potato fries, the ribeye it's self was not good at all, super thin, overcooked and no marbalization through it, so dry! Wouldn't recommend at all. The sweet potato fries however were great!! She even brought out a sweet caramel sauce and that with the fries turned out into pretty much dessert for me! Hungry Buffalo was a quick dinner option that was close to our hotel. Our food was fine, the service was great, and it was super busy inside, so it must be liked by many. I ordered the taco salad, thinking I was going to get a salad with taco accoutrements on it. And I did, kind of. But it was surrounded by a tortilla shell almost as big as my head. So, not really the semi-healthy meal that I thought I was going to get, but that's probably my bad for ordering a salad at a place named after a gigantic, ravenous mammal. I also ordered mini corndogs and a cheeseburger for my children. There isn't a cheeseburger on the kids menu (strange!), so if your child wants a cheeseburger like mine did, you'll have to order one from the regular menu. The cheeseburger comes with tomato, lettuce and onion, all of which I had to pick off because: child. It also comes with fries. The kids mini corndogs come with your choice of side, and apple sauce is an option, so I chose that. There is no outside seating here. Your only options are to eat indoors in their dining room, or order takeout. If you're ordering takeout, they prefer you to order from their website. When I tried to order my food to go at the bar, a kind woman told me that they would soon be phasing out ordering takeout in person, so be aware. One interesting tidbit about Hungry Buffalo is that on one side is a restaurant, and on the other is an axe-throwing bar. So if you're 18+, you can have a meal and then mosey on over to the other side of the building and throw some axes at targets. read more

My friends and I went axe throwing next door, which is super fun! Highly recommend! Afterwards, we ate at this place. This place serves BBQ, but the quality of it was superbly disappointing. I ordered steak, which came out in such a small piece, and it was overcooked, dry, and not seasoned super well. The mac n' cheese tasted like it had fake cheese and was not very good. The drinks were okay, but definitely overpriced. Our waitress was super cool! She was fun and advised us some things and gave us the honest truth about the place or foods to get, which was nice.
