Slightly pricey but the food was absolutely delicious. The clam chowder was amazing as was the calamari and the halibut. The Chips were a little extra thick but not terrible. Also quite a fan of the tartar sauce. The service was very good, we went there around 1 in the afternoon and it wasn't super busy. Ocean right outside and a very nice atmosphere. My berry tart had about five blueberries and one blackberry on it. It was mostly phyllo dough and ice cream. Well, we got here at 7:30, and as we walked in the door, we almost got run over by a woman carrying a water tray at mach speed, with no "excuse me" or "sorry". As she was walking away she shouted "tables are full! Sit at the bar!" The best review I have however, is the sweet waitress who waited on us. She was really attentive. Her name is Michelle, and sweet as pie. WAY TO GO, GIRL!! She handled the pressure beautifully, especially for this being her 2nd day on the job. While we wait for over an hour for our dinner, we witnessed the same woman who almost ran us over yelling at various staff members unabashedly. I can only assume this woman is the owner/manager. I had ordered the fish and chips, and they were just horrible. No flavor, soggy and not even enough vinegar and lemon could cover up the amount of grease that dripped off of them. I had to send my plate back to Michelle, but we still ordered dessert. The Jack's dessert was very simple, but amazing. All said and done, I understand the understaffing stress, but this is no excuse to be rude with no apologies. If you can't handle the stress of simple understaffing issues without demeaning others, then you should NOT be on the restaurant business. The only reason I'm giving this restaurant any stars at all is because of Michelle, and a dessert that was really good, but I could have easily made at home. read more

I have no idea what people are complaining about. I came up to Eureka to celebrate my 23rd anniversary and our daughter took us to Jack's. We ordered calamari, clams, oysters, crab salad (which my daughter asked if she could do a crab/shrimp and they said yes) shrimp coctail and fish and chips. We each ordered a drink. The tab came to $120.00 total. The food was fantastic. I could not believe the amount of clams, calamari and shrimp/crab in the orders. The fish n chips were hot and fresh. I am from San Francisco so kinda a snob when it comes to seafood. I will for sure go back to this restaurant. Service was good, bread was fresh and tasty. I cannot say enough good about this place. This is simply a restaurant to trap tourists into overpaying for prepackaged and inferior food. for $3 per oyster, I am expecting something larger than the tip of my finger. The $15 Anchovy Caesar salad was a couple leaves of light green Romaine, some pre-packaged shreds of Parmesan from the grocery store, and literally a can of anchovies that I suspect we're actually sardines, dumped on top, untreated. It was absolutely unacceptable, dry, and tasteless. For $60, my six-year-old son and myself left starving and hit up another restaurant immediately afterwards. The waitress was awesome, but even admitted to me that locals do not find the place acceptable when you can get a lot more bang for your buck at places like Salt Fish House, or really any other restaurant in town. read more

Wonderful location! The hubs and I drove over from Redding and chose to have lunch here when we arrived! We were greeted promptly and asked if we could sit outside. Our waitress was super friendly and lead us outside where we watched a boat tour load up and take off at the dock. We ordered two cups of clam chowder, steamer clams and 12 oysters on the half shell. Everything was delicious, especially the clams! The broth was rich and salty. We both loved it! The oysters were fresh and tasty, although, I personally would've preferred a more traditional dressing on mine, they were still delicious. We got half BBQ'd with garlic, lemon and butter and half raw with sriracha, green onions and tobiko which was good but reminded me too much of a sushi roll and not oysters in the traditional sense. Came here on a Monday for lunch. Our waitress was super nice and attentive. We ordered the fried mushrooms to start which were AMAZING! My boyfriend asked for the sweet chili sauce with them (in addition to the chipotle aioli and ranch they brought) and the sauces were great. I got the coconut prawns with a side of fries and he got the shrimp po' boy. I found the coconut shrimp to have good texture but lacked seasoning and juiciness. He thought that the shrimp po'boy was "okay" and that it could have had more flavor or "spice." I really did not care for the fries - they were really dense and lacked seasoning as well. Overall: cons - lacked seasoning, didn't like the fries, and when we tried to cancel our side of fries after we found out his po'boy came with them, they wouldn't cancel the order since they were already made (we were still charged). Pros - good location (ocean views), clean establishment, great service, tasty mushroom appetizer, and decent prices. read more

Ordered the calamari appetizer, ribeye steak, seafood Alfredo and a cup of coffee. Food came out cold, coffee was only half filled, cold and mostly grounds. Seafood alfredo had five pieces of seafood. We were ignored and never checked on. The restaurant was a bit busy but the workers eating during their break next to us got more service. Next time will save our money and go elsewhere. The only thing good about the meal was the appetizer. read more

Great clam chowder! (We don't even like clam chowder; hats how good it is) The seafood pasta is our favorite dish. It's always excellent! We also tried the fried calamari and halibut with fresh vegetables. Both were very good but because the fish is so fresh there wasn't any extra seasoning and, in my opinion, lacked a little flavor. Still, it was very good and tasted very fresh, not fishy at all. Not a very big place but always friendly staff and we have never had to wait for a table. Good place to eat and relax. read more

There isn't a hostess to seat you, even though sign said wait to be seated . The waitress when I found her was cleaning, working behind bar and exceptionally nice. She is the highlight of my visit. I write this from the toilet, an hour after leaving this supremely bad waste of prime real estate. Had 2 spoonfuls of the world's blandest, clamless chowder heavy on flour, cream, and nutmeg. The broiled kumamoto oysters were the size of pea gravel, the 11 we ate. The 12th was so grey and discolored it shouldn't have been served. The rock fish "special" was smothered in syrupy canned marmalade atop a thick, gritty layer of blackening seasoning - a revolting combo that left a taste in my mouth so bad, not even the flat soda could wash it away. Veggies advertised as sautéed were instead steamed or boiled, unseasoned. Cesar salad was so heavy with dressing, the leaves wilted in a pool of it - but the worst part was the heaping handful of canned mackerel chunks on top. Absolutely disgusting all around. If I could throw up to get the rest of it out of me, I would..though that may happen on its own. A terrible experience and we will never go back. How they stay in business astounds me..must be all gullible first-timers thinking it might actually be a decent seafood place. read more

Hmm. I waited at the entrance without anyone there for about five minutes. When the hostess arrived she was on the phone, so she continued to ignore me. Only half the tables were occupied. The table to my right was loaded with dirty dishes for 15 minutes. When the bus person came, she left the dirty cups and a filthy surface even after my food was served. The view is pretty nice, but it's through dirty windows. Baja tacos are good, if not a little spicey. Waitress was very pleasant once she arrived.
