My family and I consider Jack Allen's one of our favorite go to restaurants since moving here in October. We tell everyone about it! Literally every single person from hostess, to valet, to bartender, to wait staff are all top notch service oriented employees. The food is unique, hot, consistent and yummy. Everywhere you sit is a good spot to sit. The roaring big fire outside with the heating lamps under the festive outdoor strand lighting is my favorite though. Even the key lime after dinner mints bring a smile to my face. LOVE Jack Allen's and the people who work there! Tips to make the experience the best it can be: Go in off times as I am not the only one who loves this place. Parking can be tight. You can make reservations ahead of time if timing is during prime time. Get the whole experience. Start at the bar with a great collection of cocktail choices or a delicious frozen margarita. Check out the game on tv or just meet other happy people. Ask for your favorite type of seating. The outdoor area has tvs, heaters, fire place or fans depending on weather. Indoors is well spaced, perfect acoustics and atmosphere. And don't eat the same thing each time. The menu and specials are all good so keep exploring. read more

I'd failed to write a review 5 years ago when we visited JAK. I'm remedying that now, since JAK is too good of a place not to share. Service was on point. He was friendly and had great recommendations. I wished I listened to him, rather than pick my own meal. My husband had an amazing green chile burger and crispy sweet potato fries. Meat was perfect and the bun was more like sourdough. My pesto crab stuffed chicken was okay. It was tender but a bit bland. I did really like the vegetable medley and the mashed potatoes that came with it. But what really carried me over to the 5 star review was the dessert of the day: strawberry cobbler. I'm usually dissappointed by cobbler, but this one was amazing. Great ratio of crumb topping to strawberries. The crumbs were warm and not soggy. I usually visit the Round Rock location since it's closer, but this time I wanted to check out this one. Obviously the food and customer service are top notch at every single location. This place does indeed work on consistency and quality with all the locations. I usually go for dinner, but this time came here for lunch. I'm always amazed at how the wait staff memorizes everything that's special in the day. Our waitress was amazing. She recited beautifully everything there was for dessert. What a memory!!! Jack Allen's was great. They were super busy when we arrived, luckily we were able to find seating at the bar. They do take reservations, if you are able to plan in advance. Our server Mary Ann was amazing! She was super knowledgeable of the menu and gave great suggestions. We started with the jalapeño and crab dip. It was a wonderful combination of flavors with just the right amount of spice from the perfectly pickled jalapeños. They offer a selection of margaritas either frozen or on the rocks. They are sneaky so sip with caution. For entrees we went with the spicy chicken pasta and the Mac and cheese with chicken and bacon. Both were delicious blends. The spicy chicken pasta was my least favorite. Though it was tasty it just wasn't what was expected. It didn't pack much spice. The blondie pie topped with Amy's ice cream was the second highlight of the night. I never knew I needed a blondie as a pie. Now I'm trying to figure out how I went about my life without it. The food and dining experience was good. It's Jack Allen's so they are always consistent and good. My less than 5 star experience was the valet. I was on a 3rd date and it says COMPLIMENTARY Valet up front. His car was right by the door and we got in. We were having a fun moment when the valet knocked on the window to tell my date he forgot to ask for his Venmo and didn't he need it to send a tip. It was so awkward and I could tell ruined his night after spending $100+ on dinner for 2. It was so tacky and I felt so bad how it went down. I would say not to put complimentary if you plan to embarrass guests and demand Venmo. read more

If you see me here, it's to eat one thing: Dee Dee's Short Stack. Which is a 3 inch tall stuffed French toast and not a stack of pancakes like the name implies. The challah bread is fluffy, custardy, and crispy (edges) all at the same time. So it hits a lot of those texture notes for me and the marscapone filling adds richness to it as well. It's what keeps me coming back even though they have other savory items that I've enjoyed like the Ribeye Hash. The Jalapeno Crab Dip is also a good one to share with others and is always a crowd pleaser too. Parking here can be a challenge since the lot is on the smaller side and during peak times you're left circling and stalking departing diner for a spot. read more

We always enjoy eating at Jack Allen's, and they have the best comfort food and wine! It can get a bit too noisy, for example on Mother's Day, but understandable, as it's a great place to eat! Overall, the food is very good, and it's a great place to go with your family or friends. read more

Ok- so I ate here again, at friends request, and it was better. I got a Tito's (vodka) grapefruit margarita and the special- a chicken pot pie. The pie was one of those w the crust just on top and came w a fried egg on top. I asked the waiter for some jalepeno and he brought back fresh jalepeno cut into long slices. I dipped that into the pot pie and that punched it up a notch. I love the house made pimento cheese - who doesn't! That complementary taste of pimento is so tempting to get the pimento appetizer. Whether it's for brunch, dinner or happy hour, Jack Allen's is one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. The food and drinks are consistently great and the staff is all super friendly. I still remember the seasonal salad with candied pecans that won me over during my first visit a few years ago. I haven't seen the exact one since, but would love for it to come back. During our most recent visit, I asked for some hot sauce and our server mentioned that they have a habanero hot sauce made in house. Soooo good and super spicy! First time visit last Sunday and it was a great experience! Staff was super pleasant - we were promptly greeted and seated. We stopped by for brunch and everything on the menu stood out - it was tough to pick just one dish. I have never had a bad meal from here! This is my second time coming for brunch and I was not disappointed. Our server was great, attentive and very nice and gave us a perfect experience. I've been here many many times and no matter when I go or what location the food is incredible and the service is outstanding. Each location is spacious, so great for hosting groups, and they are always impeccably decorated. The last time I went, I took a group of 10 people. We had originally only reserved for 8 so I was grateful that they were so kind about accommodating a last minute change in our party size. We started with a bunch of appetizers but my favorites were the crab dip and the guacamole. My boyfriend ordered the red fish they had on special and I ordered the crab stuffed chicken breast. I recommend choosing different plate and sharing that way you can try as many of their delicious options as possible!!! They did it again, the food was amazing! I also want to tip my hat to their selection of non alcoholic beverages, I felt included in the celebration with my own alcohol free IPA. We go to Jack Allen's frequently and have never been anything but pleased. Great food, attentive, fast service. Last night's Saturday was awesome with the NY Strip Steak was right on at medium rare with charred marinated vegetables (yellow squash & zucchini). I had a big appetite so the Wedgies Salad with the green goddess dressing & bacon was a yum moment. Washed it all down with Maker's Mark Private on the rocks with those nice square ice cubes. They offer a pretty solid choice of bourbons to sip on for heat relief. Our wait wasn't bad, but I suggest reservations & parking can feel like the Alamo. Good and bad review. Good food marred by customer service issues. I called in to order a special off the website. (-2 pts that you have to call in to order a special to-go instead of ordering online) I ordered the Salmon special for that day. My husband had already driven there to pick up what I ordered because we live quite a ways away. The hostess told me there was no salmon special. I said it is on your website. She said no it wasn't. I said go look which I presume she did. She said that dish was from yesterday. I knew that it wasn't since I had checked the website the night before. We order from JA at about once a week and check the specials every day. She also said you can't order the Specials from the website for lunch, only after 4 pm and told me it said that on the website. No it didn't and it still doesn't. She argued with me about two things and was wrong on both. She tranferred me to someone else who checked with the chef and he offered to make something similar for me. Yeah! (5 points) The dish he made was amazing! Two yeahs! Awesome professional chef. You should make that dish a special! I mentioned to the women who took my order that if the Specials are only available after 4:00 they need to put that on the website. I explained I was an attorney who taught contract law to other attorneys. I explained that when the offer is put on the website and someone drives in reliance on that offer to the store to order from the website that the offer is complete at that point. She laughed at me. I said I do not appreciate being laughed at. She unconvincingly said, "Oh, I wasn't laughing at you." I suggested that she tell the managers what I was telling her to avoid problems in the future. She said she would. But still nothing has changed so I am pretty sure she just hung up and laughed because I presume I was "Karen" to her. (-4 points) Note to Jack Allen, under The Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Law you can be sued for treble damages for such "mistakes" or possibly a class action lawsuit. If I was advising you I would be telling you to put up that the Specials are only available after 4 pm. It is not hard to do and may save you some real heartaches later. I would also recommend retraining that staff member and all staff members on customer service. Finally a general complaint about the menu. Almost every thing has an aioli/mayo or cream sauce. I rarely order off the main menu because I hate those sauces. I wish you would break out with more good tasting things without those kinds of sauces.You have gotten into a rut with those. Please branch out. One of the best specials you ever had was the shrimp boil from the summer. With so few good food choices in this part of Austin, Dripping, Lakeway etc. we need you. Absolutely love this restaurant. My family and I come here when we head out to the lake or on our way back home. The atmosphere is great and you have the option of sitting in their outside patio that's covered or inside. The must try appetizer I would suggest would definitely be the Jalapeño crab dip, it absolutely delicious! The last time I stopped by and tried the Cesar salad with grilled chicken and I was so glad I did especially during these hot summer days, it's a great refreshing pick me up during lunch time. read more

Jack Allen's Kitchen is quite good for a meal in the evening. People have said the Sunday brunch is pretty good also. We have eaten there in the evening, but avoid brunches due to screaming kids running amok as at most brunch locations. The Lady and I met another Yelper for lunch on a Saturday. I went for the Green Chile Cheese Burger which comes with a nice dose of Poblano slices. It was cooked perfectly. The other Yelper had the same, and we shared some grilled, pickled Jalapenos. They were good, but were mild. Next time I will ask if they have a hot version. The Lady had the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Salad it looked beautiful and she enjoyed it, but the Fried Chicken was a bit bland. We did enjoy a couple of Bloody Mary drinks (they had two kinds, one with habanero and the other a less complex version that Lady really liked, particularly after she added Tabasco sauce. I recommend the version she had and pump up the heat with Tabasco. The nice thing was that they had a happy hour on Saturday and I saw most people with drinks. One thing that was a bother is that it is LOUD due to the construction style and being a Saturday it was packed. I would recommend going during the week and not the weekend. We had great service that was spot on. All in all, it was an enjoyable lunch and we were happy. Would I go again, yes, but not on a weekend. :-) read more

Great house margaritas! I think i would only come here for drinks. Food was just alright to me. My kids got the cheeseburger and mac and cheese. Cheeseburger was their favorite. Mac and cheese lacked a lot of flavor for such basic dish. I got the steak salad. My dish felt like it sat on the line for awhile since my steak was cold. The dressing was great tho. Granted, it was my first time here, but the food was amazing. I had a house margarita, chips and guac and the seasonal pork chop. I thank the service for these choices - our waiter recommended each of those items and I went for it. The chips and guac were solid, and the house margarita was decent too, but the pork chop was outer worldly. I think the photo speaks for its self. The sauce in the pork was a perfect addition, especially when eaten with the roasted vegetables. The lobster arugula salad next to the pork chop was actually just about as good as the rest of the plate. Food was delicious, desserts could have been a little better but honestly, we were all too full from dinner. We went to the Oak Hill location last night and had a wonderful dining experience. We sat at the bar on the patio, which didn't seem very inviting. But boy howdy was I wrong. The bartender, Daniel, made us feel like we were at a fine dining venue (I realize that sounds weird since we were seated at the bar, but it's true). The Cosmo my wife ordered was off the charts perfect. I ordered the Texas Coast Crispy Fried Shrimp (Crispy shrimp with blackened seasoning, deviled egg potato salad, JAK slaw, Jalapeño tartar, cocktail sauce, grilled lemon). It was the best fried shrimp I have ever had in Austin and even better than the Headliner's Club coconut shrimp, better than Cypress Grill, Papadeaux, Shoal Creek Saloon, Evangeline's, etc... My wife ordered the Horseradish Crusted Salmon (Dijon and horseradish glaze, pan seared potato cake, herb roasted veggies, white wine lemon butter sauce, toasted paprika glaze). OMG! It was out-of-this-world delicious. These are relatively newer additions to the menu and I would recommend anyone who's interested to try them out. You shouldn't be disappointed. This review is specific to the Oak Hill/Hwy 71 location in December 2023. After living in Oak Hill for over five years, we finally made it to Jack Allen's for my mom's 89th birthday. They are always so busy that it just seemed easier to go elsewhere. I'm glad we finally made it! We went early-ish, around 5:30 PM, and the parking lot was already full. While the family kept circling the parking lot for a space to park, I ran inside to see how long the wait would be for us to be seated, as my mom can't stand for long periods of time. When I explained our situation, we were immediately seated on the heated and enclosed patio. There were four of us. We ended up using the *complimentary* valet service and I STRONGLY recommend that if you drive there, you do so, too. Another good option is to take a rideshare service. For a busy restaurant, I was worried that the noise level would preclude any meaningful conversation, but we had zero issues! There are so many popular places in Austin where you can't hear yourself think, much less hear anyone in your party, so it was nice that this was not the case, even as the night progressed and the restaurant got even busier. We got there during happy hour on a Wednesday night, so our drinks and apps were 1/2 price until 6:30. Starting with the appetizers, we ordered nachitos and chips & queso. While decent, if we had not gotten them for 1/2 off, we would have not been happy about paying full price for fairly mediocre fare; while decent, there are absolutely better places to get queso in town and definitely better nachitos. Like I said, pretty standard fare, nothing special, so I won't be ordering either of those apps again. I'll try something else next time and update this review to include them. For drinks, I ordered a local cider and the rest of the party got iced tea. I like that we had local options from which to choose, as I prefer to support local businesses when possible. The refills came steadily, if not quickly, so no real complaints here. For dinner, we ordered the Fat Jack burger with sweet potato fries, Five-cheese macaroni and chicken, Horseradish crusted salmon, and their "beast loaf" which is a meatloaf made with wagyu, venison, and wild boar (!!). In order of appearance, the burger was standard fare, the Mac and Chicken was tasty but very rich, the salmon was fine, but the reason for this review is really to brag on the "beast loaf"! The "beast loaf" is made of wagyu, venison, and wild boar, served with garlic mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables. Every bite was absolute perfection - flavor for days, veggies steamed crisp & fresh, savory mash, and outstanding meatloaf. I've been saying how sad I am that their meatloaf is better than mine, as I recently found a recipe that I love! The wild meat along with the fennel is just perfection. Seriously, so good! For those of you who stopped at "meatloaf" - trust me on this one - it's SO good! Try it, and if you don't agree, I'll buy you a pint! ;) As mentioned, it was my mom's birthday and if we had known, apparently she could have gotten a blonde brownie for dessert on the house, but we are not ones for public displays of celebrations (no judgment for those who are!), so what I appreciate about this experience is that while they knew it was her birthday, they did not pounce or force a Happy Birthday sing-a-long. Whew! The service is worth mentioning, too. Everyone, from the hostess to the waitstaff to the valets, was friendly - not overly solicitous but attentive. For an extremely busy dinner service, no one seemed rushed, harried, or stressed in any way. Good attitudes and ready smiles from the staff affect both the customers and the atmosphere as a whole, and this was definitely the case here. Great vibes! I gave four out of five stars because of the mediocrity of the apps and fairly standard meals. What I mean by this is that each order was about $20, which is certainly less than most dinners in Austin; they were just not anything worth writing home about. The "beast loaf" is an immediate favorite and I will be ordering that again very soon! The service, vibe, and seating accommodation, along with the meatloaf, are why it went from three to four stars.
